The leader of Her Majesty’s Government, the Prime Minister, is a role that was conceptualised as far back as the 1700’s.
For almost 300 years, the position was held by men. Until Margaret Thatcher infiltrated the All Boy’s club.
Guiding the United Kingdom into a voyage of the unknown, the Iron Lady remained unwavered in her resolve to govern how she thought was best.
Her uncompromising politics, sharp tongue and steely determination endeared her to much of the population, but her philosophy weren’t without its risks.
Despite polarising communities throughout the United Kingdom, Margaret Thatcher went on to become the United Kingdom’s very first female Prime Minister and the longest serving in over 150 years.
She is the first 20th century Prime minister to have won three consecutive terms. Both the Queen and Thatcher were used to being the only women in the the old boys’ network, so how would two powerful women fare in the bid to make Britain great again.
From the battles in the Falklands to unrest throughout the mining communities, even an IRA assassination attempt was executed…follow the trials and tribulations of Great Britain’s first female prime minister.

I was a child when Margaret Thatcher came into power. Regardless of opinions or political stances, she was and forever will be one of the greatest leaders who ever lived. A true Iron Lady.

One thing you can’t deny is her love for Britain. I’m not a supporter but I do appreciate her in that respect, she would be ashamed of the leaders today.

I'm an American and I believe that she was a great PM. I remember how bad things had become with the economy, the Winter of Discontent, unemployment, and not to mention the Cold War. I believe her and Reagan were perfect for the times.

Her right-wing Neoliberal policies ran the UK into the ground. His Majesty's subjects continue to suffer from the effects of these policies and new ones enacted by both main parties that are nothing more than two sides of the same right-wing Neoliberal Corporatist Capitalist coin, just like the Democratic and Republican Parties here in the United States. The Sovereign should have Constitutional authority to veto and, to a certain extent, reverse these policies. But she was good with kids, hard working, and very, very intelligent.
An excellent portrayal of one of Britain’s greatest Prime Ministers. The United Kingdom was greater for her contribution. RIP.

The problem with protagonists in Cinderella stories is they think it happened to them so it could happen to everyone else, and don't take into account that many thousands of Cinderella stories result in failure. Success is not just about hard work, but also being lucky enough to encounter the right opportunities.
Whether you like her or not, she was an actual leader, had more gumption and tenacity than any of the men in Parliament then and definitely now. People think the Queen and Mrs Thatcher hated each other…they didn’t. They had massive respect for each other. Queen Elizabeth II only went to 2 of her Prime Minister funerals…Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher.

Interest rates rose to 16% under Thatcher. That was great for investors and those with savings. For the rest of us it meant our mortgage payments went through the roof and when our homes were re possessed they were sold cheaply to private landlords and property developers so the rich got even richer and poor became destitute.
Interest rates rose to 18% in Australia under the Labor Government. And the recession we had to have according to the then Australian PM (Paul Keating). The world economic environment was very different back then.

I was a war baby and that is not how I remember it and Keating was was not in the same era as Baroness Thatcher.

Mrs Thatcher the daughter of a fruit and veg shop in Grantham, her religion a methodist, she started life as a working class Girl, what did this teach Mrs Thatcher, not very much. There are almost no fruits and veg shops now, the big supermarkets have taken their business, many methodist churches closed, now she is dead, and the world moves on without her... Great documentary. When I saw her at the statue unveiling, I couldn’t see a difference between her and Meryl Streep playing her at the same age. Such a great portrayal of such a complicated and undeniably influential person. ❤ (and after all the documentaries and movies, I had never seen Margaret’s quick loss of composure as she went to the car, really powerful moment I’m so glad I got to see her as a real person for that briefest second)

The Victorians took the view that it was the fault of the poor and vulnerable that they were poor and vulnerable. So did she. She did nothing to help them and plenty to harm them. Strong leader she was, just as many of you have commented, but history is full of strong leaders who did bad things. She is one of them.

Margaret was one of the few who experienced it and, like the other few that do, believed if it could happen to her, it could happen to everyone if they worked hard. I’m not a Conservative supporter, and never will be but you have to admire and respect the great work of Margaret Thatcher did for this country meaning the United Kingdom. She was a controversial and divisive figure yes true but nevertheless, a prime minister and somebody who deserves our respect you don’t admire her politics. But at my hair achievements as a political leader, it’s not easy, running a country matter who you are. My professor at the University is the current first Minister of Wales., Mark Drakeford all public servants deserve respect, particularly these that are running a country our behalf. Regardless of your politics and regardless of your walk of life, you have to agree that great people achieve great things and Margaret Thatcher was definitely one of these people in life. I am 100% a Labour supporter, but I still respect the impact Margaret Thatcher made on politics in this country. Good bad or indifferent she was unique She was special and she made history not bad for a grossest daughter and she proved regardless of your background If you’re driven and ambitious, you can reach the top of the ladder.
