Restoring a Tool; Removing Rust, Nickel Electroplating, & Lubricating

  • I found a pair of needle-nose pliers in a plastic drawer that previously belonged to my late father Ken, that were corroded with rust on the steel alloy.
    I use a sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in water bath with a nickel strip + anode to - cathode strip rust from the tool
    Using an acetic acid + NaCl water bath made with a nickel anode & cathode, I utilized a nickel + anode & attach the part as the - cathode to electroplate the tool with a nice corrosion protection layer of bright nickel
    In this video I regenerate the nickel ion levels of the nickel plating bath, and use various voltages & currents to accomplish electroplating the tool with nickel.
    I add tri-lub gun-oil to lubricate the friction pivot articulation in this tool & to wipe down the tool & polish it lightly.

    The Rolex is hard 💪
    Cool video. I have those same cheapy hdx needle noses. I might try this. Gotta get some nickel
