Thank you so much for this video, exceedingly informative. I was wondering about the addition of a picture. You mentioned that it’s optional. I’ve always been scared to add it as people may have prejudices or biases and I effectively ruin my chances simply based on my appearance. In your experience, do the pros of a picture outweigh the cons?
Only a pleasure🙌🏾💯 I certainly think so, but I must admit that I’m biased with this question. I love seeing pics on a resume, but not every recruiter thinks the same way. So maybe do what makes you more comfortable… Depending on the recruiter, having one there is either eye catching or distracting! So go with what you are more inclined to have. If you choose to have a picture, then make sure it looks clear, it’s recent and professional 👍🏽

Hi Bohlale, I've only just came across your channel today and I absolutely love the content. Regarding the use of a picture. Can I use it on any desired job application or do you think there are some jobs that would prefer not to see a picture of the applicant?
It’s really dependent on you. I think if your CV has a standard template which includes a picture, then keep it there! But if your CV doesn’t, then use that for all your applications. It doesn’t depend off the kind of job, it depends on the kind of person you are!
Good day Bohlale I saw earlier that you said that the appropriate length is 1 page but I have heard that it's supposed to be comprehensive. At UCT they said that it should be two pages and for something like skills, you shouldn't just list them but you should give at least one example showing that skill. Do you recommend it or should you keep it simple. Thank you
As a recruiter, I won’t read through the entire cv to be honest! I want would like to see the core aspects captured so that I can decided whether you are someone we should interview. Then I’m the interview you can elaborate on the skills when asked. If you have a 2 page CV, it should be justified by work experience. But if you are just a student, I don’t think it’s necessary.

I’m @bohlalepaile If you aren’t on there, then yes, I’m so my years doing grad recruitment I’ve never asked for references or conducted references... particularly if you are applying for a grad program. But you can add a title saying references, and indicate that they’ll be available on request!!
Hi Bohlale, I wanted to ask if it's necessary to add certificates for awards mentioned in our CV that we obtained in high school? Or should we not worry about it if it wasn't specifically asked for in the application?
Thank you for the awesome video ausi Bohlale! Please assist: After matric I went to varsity to do Medicine but got academically excluded. I then went to my current varsity to study LLB and have been on the deans list every year since. Should I include the 3 years that I was doing Medicine in my CV? If so, do I have to specify as to why that degree was not completed?
Hello, Thanks for your comment. Well I would advise you to keep it in. If not kept in, then you are still bound to be asked about the gap in your CV. The reality is that when you do well in your LLB, and a firm wants to see you, they will pick up that maybe you just chose the incorrect path initially...and they will be able to see clearly that now you have found the thing you enjoy. It shouldn't be a big issue... So I would keep it in, and rather explain in an interview when asked.
Thanks God I came across this video, it was so helpful and informative.. I'm currently studying towards Diploma in Logistics and I used to work as a general worker in construction before.. So should I write it on my cv that I worked as a general worker, does it align with my qualification.. I hope my questions makes sense
Hello Msax, Thanks for your message. Yes you need to add it to your CV, to show that you have work experience. And there should be a lot of skills that you have gained from working there, which you can talk to in your interview as well. I hope that answered your question.
Hi and thank you for this helpful video. I have a question, if you are a student without any experience what you put under experience section? let say you are in of a temporal piece job for December holidays. Thanks in advance.
Very informative. I would love to get your take on my own application. I am a part time LLB student who intends to apply at the big 5 + medium law firms. During my studies I have worked in Logistics/Shipping. I notice the big 5 have huge shipping law divisions. In a nutshell my question is , should I stipulate on my motivation letter that I have this experience and would love to get into maritime/shipping law or should I not limit myself to that particular sector. Also I'm studying at unisa and noticed that not many unisa students get in as candidate attorneys at these firms.. should I be concerned or even transfer to a different campus.
Hey Ravesan, That’s a great question. I always say don’t limit yourself to just doing shipping Law, there are so many areas to get exposure to in a big law firm. You are welcome to highlight that you’ve had experience in logistics under your experience section, it needs to be there. In your motivation letter, highlight that you want to get exposure to many disciplines and areas…unless you are applying to a maritime focused law firm.
Most graduate programmes don’t make use of references!! In my 10 years as a young taken specialist, I’ve never called anyone for a reference. So it’s not a train smash if you leave it off, Iet the employer rather ask for a references from you should they require it.
Search in the search tab, and just write cv or resume. Then you’ll see options coming up, some free and others paid. Pick one you like, and start populating!
