Testing DIY wax on Carhartt jacket

The darker portion on right has been treated with DIY wax, and you can see how it repels the water better than the lighter areas.

The treated area beads up the water perfectly while the untreated seems to absorb it, I don't see how that is "Horrible waxing". I think they did a pretty darn good job. Could you please explain why you think it is horrible?
