  • . Harbor freight plier brands. (Review) Are they worth buying?
    These new Harbor Freight Pliers, will they last? Will also include a follow up review video after a few weeks to see how well Harbor freight pliers looks after electrical work.
    Quinn needlenose and linesman pliers. Doyle Tongue and groove (channellock) pliers. Honorable mention Doyle angled diagonal cutters aka DYKES.
    Harbor Freights Pittsburgh pro line of pliers were not cutting it. No pun intended.

    Not as good as Klein Pliers or Knipex Pliers but not too far behind the curve.
    Do it yourself (DIY) people now have an excellent selection of pliers at Harbor Freight with these new Doyle and Quinn pliers.

    I bought the same Quin and Diyle brand pliers. I must say I am impressed with the quality you get for such reasonable prices.

      Agreed! Are they the best out there. No, but they definitely bring a good value to the table

    I love the new Doyle products

      Me too, I’d even go as far to say they are the best pliers on the market at their price range. Even the Quinn brand are good enough for home/DIY use.

      Tough Tool Reviews agreed man I would even venture to say they’re right up there with channel lock

    I rewired a few outlets with the Quinn needle nose pliers, I'm really surprised how much their hand tools have improved. The Quinns have made it into my favorites pile of hand tools. All my cheap needle noses have cleft pallete.

      Definitely agree. I got burned on a few of the Pittsburgh pliers but these new Quinn and Doyle lines they got are pretty legit. Of course they’ll never bear Klein or knipex but their not trying to realistically. They are the best pliers on the market at their price point as far as I’m concerned

      Klein definitely makes damn good screwdrivers and pliers but don’t let anybody tell you the job can’t get done (and done well) without them. If you can afford them great, but many other good economical options out there. Good luck and have fun

      @@BradsWorkbench A lifetime warranty is a lifetime warranty! With the price of harbor freight gear I'm putting together a whole mobile bag to take to friends and families jobs-those Kleins are crazy expensive but my girlfriends father (master electrician) talked me into them. I'll get his opinion on these next time we work on something

      That’s what I did and am still doing. I started out with fairly cheap tools then upgraded at I could. The tools that got replaced became my home tools

    The quinn pliers resemble my channelock pliers alot, I compared them side by side and they seem identical, besides the markings and color of grips of course

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 років тому +1

      I found that my Quinn’s started rusting a lot faster than my channellocks but so far that’s been the only negative I’ve had with them. But it could also be that I’m more adapt to use them for the really dirty jobs since they were only $4

      Brads Workbench Anyhow I rarely have access to Harbor Freight, being across the border, Il try to pick up more Quinn but Il stick to my Channelocks for now
      Oh and one thing that shocked me is that walmart also sells Channelocks and in Canada we don’t got shit for tools at Walmart, not even a ratchet

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 років тому

      Yea, Walmart here also sells some Irwin vise grip stuff and some Stanley stuff but we all know the quality of Stanley these days. I’ll go with HF tools before Stanley lol

    Hey great review. Do you think the doyle pliers would be good for an hvac/r apprentice? Would they hold up for a year or two?

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 років тому +2

      I definitely think they are a great option if money is tight. BUT if you have the extra $10, I’d say go ahead and get an actual pair of Channellock brand. The 420 and 440 are great all around models. So far I have been very happy with my Doyle’s but only had them for around 4 months so it’s hard to say if the teeth would still hold up after a couple years. They are a great option if you’re in a pinch for cash though

      I agree that’s a great way to go. Also nice to keep them cheaper tools around for rainy days or nasty work. I’m actually about to do a 1 year update on all my Doyle and Quinn stufg

    For the same price as the doyle Flyers you can get channel lock that's made in USA

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 років тому +8

      I’m gonna have to disagree bud. While I’m an avid channellock fanboy a 16” pair of their tongue and grove pliers is gonna run around $30 most places. Whereas the same size of Doyle’s cost me $17.

    • @NextMRV
      @NextMRV 6 років тому +3

      Even though Channellock is more expensive it is worth the price for American pliers that work smoothly have great cross hatching and are really just a great set of pliers if you're willing to spend a little bit more money for the American pliers

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 років тому +6

      Yea, I agree with that. I love channellock. I even have a pair of channellock lineman’s pliers I use at work. Several pair of their standard tongue and groove sets. But if the bank account is a little low and you need a set of pliers ASAP, this Doyle brand is a great alternative.

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 років тому +3

      Oh and I’ve just got to add that the pair of Doyle’s I bought were very smooth. That’s the first thing I noticed about them. I was quite shocked honestly

      Channellock 460 - the 16" - can be had for less than $20. I ask again, why buy inferior tool when a significantly better product is just a few dollars more?

    The grove joint pliers doyle made in china, the linesman,needle nose, side cutters are made in taiwan

    • @everettedualino5074
      @everettedualino5074 6 років тому +1

      Todd Osterhout nope the line of groove joint pliers are all made in china, but the two style of linesman(crimping and fish line style), the two sizes of needle nose the side cutters, the cable cutters, the slip joints are made in taiwan.

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 років тому +2

      I’m really not sure now. I’ll have to look next time I’m in there. But it really doesn’t matter. Just because its Chinese doesn’t make it inherently bad. China builds rockets and has other technologies that surpass many other countries. That’s why I hate that people see made in China and assume it’s a piece of junk. Granted they do mass produce a lot of cheap junk but this doesn’t mean that they can’t make good stuff as well.

    Over craftsman? Craftsman you can still get made in USA by

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 років тому +3

      Craftsman has gone so far down hill as we all know. Which is fine, shit happens. But they still charge like they are a premium brand. I’m of huge fan of old craftsman tools but these days the only time I buy anything craftsman is during Christmas when they put a bunch on stuff on sale. That’s just my opinion though. I know plenty of people that still swear by their tools

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  5 років тому +3

      The Chinese are perfectly capable of making quality tools. It’s the companies that decide the standards and cost they want met. Stanley owns a ton of companies.

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  5 років тому

      Yes definitely agree. I’ll go for HF over Stanley. Although I did get an orbital B&D sander from Walmart in a pinch and it’s still going strong. It’s a coin toss mostly. I think they eliminated the warranty because that’s a big reason craftsman went under. Or so that’s what I’ve heard. But I’m definitely not a business mogul so who knows. I don’t buy anything craftsman unless I know it was made pre-1990s. That’s when I think they started to slip

  • @felixf5211
    @felixf5211 6 років тому +1

    I love HF. Shop there almost weekly, but I'd never buy their pliers or screwdrivers. No reason to. Their performance ranges from horrible to kinda OK. Why deal with that when a few dollars more buys a significantly better tool.

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 років тому +5

      I agree with you but sometimes a person may not have that $10-$15 to buy that better pair of pliers. Or maybe you have a job where you know the tool has a good chance of being destroyed. There’s a place in my shop for all tools 👍🏼

    • @felixf5211
      @felixf5211 6 років тому

      Irwin, Channellock, et al regularly run (pack) promos where each tool is less than $15. Often significantly less. Back to the original point....

    • @felixf5211
      @felixf5211 6 років тому +1

      I genuinely think that HF is making a mistake with some of the current pricing. The tools are positioned to compete with known brands - witness the Hercules drill/driver as an example - yet it's still a short warranty, a lack of faith in long term durability, and sometimes a decreased level of performance. The hand tools were cheap and disposable. There was a reason to buy them. When HF stocks its shelves with hand tools that are positioned directly against known entities, why bother with HF? I mean, the whole attraction was the price. Sometimes a great tool could be had for cheap. When that same 'cheap' is no longer there, other options looks more desirable. For HF to compete at this price point, they have to be better than the competition. A lot better.

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 років тому

      I get what you’re saying but it’s not like they completely removed their Pittsburgh brand pliers and Quinn pliers are dirt cheap yet miles ahead in quality compared to Pittsburgh. I think they are more so just giving people more options. Diversification is never a bad thing
