      Hey there! The main DAW program that we are using in this video is called "Cubase" which you can purchase on Sweetwater or any major music retailer. The synth software we are using is Xfer Serum which can be purchased directly from the Xfer website. Thanks for watching!

    why would you load the samples into your noise folder and not instead drop them directly into the oscillator, since then you can mess with the wave table and modulate it with LFOs? seems like you're not really taking advantage of serum.

    • @MakePopMusic
      @MakePopMusic  4 роки тому

      When I filmed this 3 years ago, the drag and drop was really buggy and would crash if you threw noises in oscillators.

    hey, the only issue is if it's a short sample as you play notes higher in pitch they become shorter, any way to overcome that?

    • @andykelly7321
      @andykelly7321 7 років тому

      You would need to add longer samples as the sound would get squashed. If you stretched the sample it would sound more robotic and not cool.

  • @witelite1654
    @witelite1654 7 років тому

    Hello just wondering if you knew how to make it so that each time you hit it the playback is always the same speed? Like so that when i hit a low note it doesnt play slower than a note higher up

    • @austinhullmusic
      @austinhullmusic 7 років тому

      Best advice is to use a long sample! The way Serum works is that it slows down when you pitch a sample down or speeds it up when you pitch up.

    While I appreciate using Serum for any and everything, sampling is the one thing it does not do well. Ableton's simpler or sampler are much better for chopping, re-pitching, and warping. If you still want to take advantage of Serum's ill FX, first create your entire vocal arrangement using a drum rack loaded with simpler instruments, record, bounce, then load arrangement in as a noise as described in this video. Then you can go crazy with FX, LFO's and Envelopes. Still inefficient because if you want to make changes to chops you have to start all over from beginning.

    • @MakePopMusic
      @MakePopMusic  7 років тому

      Hey Jon! Nice! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. We'll definitely have to try that out. The primary reason we do the tutorials on Serum is that it's a software that can be used with any DAW (we try not to be TOO DAW specific although sometimes we have to be). But yes - Ableton is really great for this!

    • @NOGISILO
      @NOGISILO 7 років тому

      I guess my gripe would have to be titling the video Serum's best kept secret and promoting an inefficient workflow. The community wants guidance to differentiate between best practices and those that waste time and energy. This is a waste of time and energy. The best kept secret for those who are interested in incorporating sampling into their music is to get Ableton live. Serum isn't free, but Ableton Lite is and it comes with simpler.

    • @MakePopMusic
      @MakePopMusic  7 років тому +1

      Hey Jon! Totally get ya. Sorry that this video isn't a fit. Most of our audience (based on surveys / our Facebook group) uses Serum along with Cubase/Logic/Protools so we're just making content at the moment that applies to their work flow. Sometimes making the switch to an entirely new DAW isn't an option for people. Thanks for watching! Hope there is a video on our channel that helps. We have many to check out.

    • @furryz666
      @furryz666 6 років тому

      Jon Horan agreed, ableton is sadly underrated in many ways including using it as a sampling editor there isn’t a 3rd party plug out there that does what ableton can do in production or on the fly live, I think because it’s a DAW it is immediately compared to everything from ProTools to the new Studio One 3 but it’s a very different animal it needs a classification of its own.
      I run the full pro versions of ableton live 9, ProTools 11, and Studio One 3 daily I highly suggest you bump up from lite
