Yeah, localization should be focused on being as accurate as possible without sounding silly to the local audience. Blazing Wind or Cinderstorm would make more sense for a move based on burning-hot wind.
@@WhiteManOnCampus”This is common in summer in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. This is because the jet stream 'follows the sun'. The high pressure area is on the equator side of the jet stream in the upper layers of the atmosphere. Weather patterns are generally slower to change in summer than in winter. So, this upper level high pressure also moves slowly. Under high pressure, the air sinks toward the surface. It warms and dries adiabatically. This inhibits convection and prevents the formation of clouds. A reduction of clouds increases the shortwave radiation reaching the surface. A low pressure area at the surface leads to surface wind from lower latitudes that brings warm air, enhancing the warming. The surface winds could also blow from the hot continental interior towards the coastal zone. This would lead to heat waves on the coast. They could also blow from high towards low elevations. basculin? Fierce looking fish I guess. Thats fine. Basculin can be cool too. My fav shitmon is garbador. Its..usable but weezing is 10x better. I still like it.
I always just assumed winged mons that can learn heat wave just flap their wings really fast creating a heat wave or depending on their secondary type like zapdos,he uses electricity to heat up the air then flap it at you. Which also explains stab nicely cause they’re not using their natural fire they’re using other methods so it’s not as strong as natural fire type fire using it. Pokémon’s accidentally so smart.
I like Carnivine mostly for its visual design. A grass type with levitate is cool in theory, but at that point it may as well get a dual typing as well. Jumpluff is Grass/Flying with some solid stats and makes a tanky support mon in story at the very least.
Thank you for being a youtuber than never makes a video too long to watch on my breaks at work, never miss an upload for this reason. Keep killing it queen!!!

Heat Wave is given to Fliers as a form of fire coverage that actually makes sense. Something with big wings being able to push hot air around makes a lot more sense than Flamethrower.
To be fair, Chatot and Carnivine haven't had movepool buffs since Gen 7 (although Chatot getting Parting Shot in BDSP is excellent) so we don't know what new moves they could get
For heat wave, i always thought as the bird pokemon flapping there wings so fast it generates hot air for the opponet. Doesn't make sense but that's how my child mine rationalized it
The best part of "bad" Pokémon is the fun of coming up with crazy stupid tactics to make the very nich-ely work. Atleast, that's my (a Spinda enjoyer) opinion.
Boomburst is such a weird move. It is so strong that it gives Exploud a niche in some early Gen 8 OU and UU formats by itself and even Swelot, a mon famous for being one of the fastest Guts abusers ever, used it in RU so much, Gamefreak buffed it’s special attack from less than 65 to 75 just so it can abuse the move better. Imagine the move on an actually somewhat fast/bulky mon with good special attack and STAB on it. Don’t bother we have a a worse version of the move and it makes Ursaluna bloodmoon a staple in OU AND VGC
Squawkabily feels like it was designed by several different people who couldn’t agree on anything. What should it look like? Japanese greaser parrot. What color should it be? Idk, like four of them, randomly selected. What roll should it play? Fast physical attacker but it’s best stat is a 96 and for some reason we’re going to give it several of the best abilities in the game. Base stat total? 417, so like a middle stage starter but it doesn’t evolve so it won’t ever really be useful.
The Japanese name for Heat Wave translates to "Hot Wind", and a lot of other wind/air moves are Flying type moves. Heat Wave just happens to have Fire type properties as well
Another thing to add, the list of non fire or flying type Pokemon is pretty limited, and mostly makes sense: - Weezing (both forms): floating ball filled with hot gas - Mew: basically gets all moves - Shiftry: only got Heat Wave in SV when it also got Wind Rider as an ability - Vibrava/Flygon: dragons with wings - Solrock: based on the sun - Groudon: created land, gets Drought as an ability, primal form is part fire (notably, only got heat wave in SV) - Arceus: is God, duh - Galarian Darumaka/Darmanitan: Unovan gets it, so fine and Zen Mode G-Darm is part fire - Druddigon: dragon with wings - Hydreigon: dragon with wings - Silvally: baby Arceus - Drampa: is a dragon with kinda wings? - Lunala: giant bat with giant wings - Guzzlord: is a dragon (not much else here honestly) - Naganadel: is a dragon with wings - Slither Wing: paradox form of Volcarona, which gets Heat Wave - Roaring Moon: is a dragon with wings and is the paradox form of Salamence, which gets Heat Wave - Koraidon: legendary Dragon that can set the sun with Orichalcum Pulse, and paradox name is Winged King - Fezandipiti: is a bird, so has wings Really, the hardest to justify is Guzzlord, but maybe it's his burps from eating too much, or it's just a thing that certain dragons can do, idk
If chatot got scrappy and was just a little bit better stats it would be a great rogue pick. On a similar note, I really wish Chatter was a 90 base power flying move, the type has really poor options as far as that goes
Natural Gift is also occasionally run by Groudon alongside Ganlon Berry in SS Natdex AG to give it a physical Max Hailstorm that it can use to hit things like Zygarde
you can find a niche for type: null in any meta, even ubers with insane bulk and pivoting. It's kind of like ditto in that it's never horrible it just is a wasted slot for most team types.
I wonder if (Alolan) Exeggutor wouldn't use that Catnivine set better. Because it has Harvest, so he can uses it more than once. Or Tropius? Poor Tropius, it has a cool move pool, some amazing abilities, but its typing and stats are just too bad to get usable...
carnivine has always disappointed me, it's a pretty rare mon which has a sick name and amazing visual design, but it just has zero stats, a meh typing, a mismatched ability and no interesting moves, you could give it +30 in every stat and it would still be garbage. they should make an evo for it with dark type, strong jaw, a signature grass biting move and all the elemental fang moves, it would still be pretty bad but at least it could be a fun wallbreaker
Lets go Chatot mention! I felt so big brained in Diamond version for 2v2 battles I would have Toreterra use Earthquake then Chatot use Mirror move letting it copy Earthquake 😅
Carnivine really should have some cool ability that boosts ingrain. Because that what Carnivine is supposed to do. Maybe like, “if Ingrain is used, gain DEF and S.DEF”.
squawkabilly is mon that can just win games with no setup in random battley mayhem. boosting its stats to total base 600 is huge as its fast and strong as fuck especially with guts and stab facade. the inverse type matchups gives its ridiculous stab facade no resistances making it impossible to switch into.
Heatwave is a wind move, and is often slotted into Flying pokemon movesets as a coverage option against Steel types, which they often have no other answer for the defensive prowess of, and Ice types, which they rarely have much coverage for either outside the occasional Close Combat/Superpower or _Steel Wing._ Some might be able to run Flame Charge as well, but let's face it you don't run _Flame Charge_ for the damage, and Talonflames aren't known for needing much in the way of speed buffs. Steels they can't really hurt, and Ices they can't allow an attack from.
I really liked running Chatot on low latter nat dex AG on showdown a few years back because along with Boomburst and some coverage, it had Chatter which did okay damage and had a guaranteed chance to confuse. The confusion was the lynch pin of the operation since the opponent could no longer stay in with the same confidence and you would move first a LOT more than you think since Chatots base speed is exactly one point higher than the base 90 thats seen with most legendaries.
My assumption with Heat Wave is simply that it's a wind move, and flying mons can do amy sort of wind move by flapping their wings As for where the heat comes from, no idea. But then again, no one ever questions why a Mon with fists can just generate fire / ice / lightning in their fists, or why Mons with tails can just make them temporarily metallic. I always just took it as one of these things
Ever seen birds circling? Everyone is bringing up the flappy elements of Heat Wave, but any soaring, flying animals IRL do and/or would have harnessed thermal currents in the air for that smooth, easy glide. A pokemon using Heat Wave IMO is most likely harnessesing some natural air currents and instead of riding them, is redirecting them at the opponents. ...Or their wing parts glow, they scream their name, and they shoot lasers. That's also an option according to the anime
I never knew that Type:Null has the exact same stats as Silvally except for a speed of 59 instead of 95 (Hahah, they swapped the numbers around, very cool :))
Chatot is a one trick pony but the combination of a decent speed/SpA and Heat Wave/HV/Boom always made it at least a little relevant in the lowest tiers. It folding like paper is what holds it back but hey that's more than you can say of most two/three stages 😂
Despite it not being good, Venomoth is one of my favorite Pokémon and has a decent special sweeping set so I still put it on some of my teams sometimes just to mess around with it :)
Boomburst's Japanese name: 爆音パ means "explosive sound" so basically, the idea behind birds getting it is the shrill chirping noise they can make but extended instead of being a short chirp. It's more akin to something like a sonicboom but a sonicboom has a much deeper tonality and moves at a supersonic speed, hence the name. Boomburst is higher pitch, but less speed. That's my theory anyway.
According to bulbapedia, the literal translation for Heat Wave's name is "Hot Wind", which simply implies that they are using their flying type abilities to propel already hot air, since hot and cold fronts exist. The same logic doesn't seem to apply to icy wind, but it translates as "freezing wind" so maybe its just... too cold for that?
Boomburst == Boom + sounds. Birds screech loud and if they fly fast enough break soundbarrier. xD I think they are just combining both of these images into a "plausible ability". Ofc no one is naturally doing any of that and they aren't fast enough nor loud enough for that... but then again, no one is naturally shooting a hyber beam either, so.
I’ll keep saying this every time I hear Chatot slander: a 100% confusion move + boomburst and coverage is really all you need. I used it in gen 6 OU and against the unprepared it would very often pick up at least 1-2 KOs. Often would down half the other team with a little luck.
You can usually look at a moves Japanese name to figure out its weird distribution. For heat wave its Japanese name translates to ‘Hot Wind’. This likely implies that many bird Pokémon learn this move as they are able to use their wings to blow hot air at the opponent.

basculin? Fierce looking fish I guess. Thats fine. Basculin can be cool too. My fav shitmon is garbador. Its..usable but weezing is 10x better. I still like it.
Watmel berry my beloved
the beauty of carnivine is that i get it every damn time in my run and bun nuzlocke
Jumpluff is Grass/Flying with some solid stats and makes a tanky support mon in story at the very least.
heat wave - birds look for hot spots in air to gain height while flying
You put my two favorite guys on the cover. Had to click!
Squakabilly could actually be a pretty good lead with max HP and Speed and a Choice Scarf with the moves:
Final Gambit
Taunt
Foul Play
Parting Shot
chatot, my beloved, how the mighty have fallen
Thank you for being a youtuber than never makes a video too long to watch on my breaks at work, never miss an upload for this reason. Keep killing it queen!!!
As someone whos second favorite crobat is nasty plot set. No one expects heat wave. They also dont expect giga drain to be unironically ran. The amount of swamperts and gastradons i bodied in gen 6/7. B E A utiful
Heat Wave is given to Fliers as a form of fire coverage that actually makes sense. Something with big wings being able to push hot air around makes a lot more sense than Flamethrower.
I really like this video, and hope you make more talking about specifically how weak pokemon fall short of the mark.
Heat wave animation looks cool on flying types
To be fair, Chatot and Carnivine haven't had movepool buffs since Gen 7 (although Chatot getting Parting Shot in BDSP is excellent) so we don't know what new moves they could get
Leavany actually runs natural gift watmel berry too back in BW! It’s a very funny pick
I remember using specs swellow a lot and just nuking things with boomburst. Like I'd sent out first thing and just oneshot landoruses and shit
For heat wave, i always thought as the bird pokemon flapping there wings so fast it generates hot air for the opponet. Doesn't make sense but that's how my child mine rationalized it
It makes more sense than you might think: Heat Wave's original Japanese name translates to "Hot Wind."
Idk girl “No Numbers” might be your simplest, best joke yet
1:43 screeching in your ear. Bursting your ear drum.
also isn't "Normal/Flying Guts sweeper" already Swellow's whole deal
Yeah swellow can do that too. I just wish they did something to differentiate it a bit, either make it stronger or faster
The Japanese name for Heat Wave translates to "Hot Wind", and a lot of other wind/air moves are Flying type moves. Heat Wave just happens to have Fire type properties as well
Another thing to add, the list of non fire or flying type Pokemon is pretty limited, and mostly makes sense:
- Weezing (both forms): floating ball filled with hot gas
- Mew: basically gets all moves
- Shiftry: only got Heat Wave in SV when it also got Wind Rider as an ability
- Vibrava/Flygon: dragons with wings
- Solrock: based on the sun
- Groudon: created land, gets Drought as an ability, primal form is part fire (notably, only got heat wave in SV)
- Arceus: is God, duh
- Galarian Darumaka/Darmanitan: Unovan gets it, so fine and Zen Mode G-Darm is part fire
- Druddigon: dragon with wings
- Hydreigon: dragon with wings
- Silvally: baby Arceus
- Drampa: is a dragon with kinda wings?
- Lunala: giant bat with giant wings
- Guzzlord: is a dragon (not much else here honestly)
- Naganadel: is a dragon with wings
- Slither Wing: paradox form of Volcarona, which gets Heat Wave
- Roaring Moon: is a dragon with wings and is the paradox form of Salamence, which gets Heat Wave
- Koraidon: legendary Dragon that can set the sun with Orichalcum Pulse, and paradox name is Winged King
- Fezandipiti: is a bird, so has wings
Really, the hardest to justify is Guzzlord, but maybe it's his burps from eating too much, or it's just a thing that certain dragons can do, idk
I guess the explanation for many Flying types learning heat wave is that they beat their wings super fast and generate a heat wave from that.
As a guy who mains chatot in National Dex Singles, we love to see it 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Carnivine really should have some cool ability that boosts ingrain. Because that what Carnivine is supposed to do.
Maybe like, “if Ingrain is used, gain DEF and S.DEF”.
I love Carnivine sm, I wish it was better it's so silly
squawkabilly is mon that can just win games with no setup in random battley mayhem. boosting its stats to total base 600 is huge as its fast and strong as fuck especially with guts and stab facade. the inverse type matchups gives its ridiculous stab facade no resistances making it impossible to switch into.
I LOVE CHATOT!! I was surprised how... Not that awful it is when decided to use it
Heatwave is a wind move, and is often slotted into Flying pokemon movesets as a coverage option against Steel types, which they often have no other answer for the defensive prowess of, and Ice types, which they rarely have much coverage for either outside the occasional Close Combat/Superpower or _Steel Wing._ Some might be able to run Flame Charge as well, but let's face it you don't run _Flame Charge_ for the damage, and Talonflames aren't known for needing much in the way of speed buffs.
Squawkabilly also has intimidate tailwind and parting shot for doubles.
I read this as "the Beauty of Bird Pokemon".
Most Pokemon Mentioned were birds so either one works
My assumption with Heat Wave is simply that it's a wind move, and flying mons can do amy sort of wind move by flapping their wings
As for where the heat comes from, no idea. But then again, no one ever questions why a Mon with fists can just generate fire / ice / lightning in their fists, or why Mons with tails can just make them temporarily metallic. I always just took it as one of these things
Shoutout to Chatot for all the RNG manip enabling, you are the most important part of many a non-hacked VGC team!
I cannot wait for Sound type to eventually be added (gen 15?) because it means big buffs for mons like Chatot!
Id like to see a video on the history of rest?
the heat wave thing might be because of thermal currents, some birds will use hot air rising to help them gain altitude
I never knew that Type:Null has the exact same stats as Silvally except for a speed of 59 instead of 95 (Hahah, they swapped the numbers around, very cool :))
Also, you called Silvally a pre-evolution, when it is just the evolution of Type:Null
i thought i said it's the pre-evolution of silvally. either way it was worded a bit weird fs, mb
Chatot is one of my faves I always draft it when I can ❤ fun fact it can learn parting shot but it can’t on showdown in any format
Chatot is a one trick pony but the combination of a decent speed/SpA and Heat Wave/HV/Boom always made it at least a little relevant in the lowest tiers. It folding like paper is what holds it back but hey that's more than you can say of most two/three stages 😂
I wish carnivine get some amazing buff in next gen :((
My fav grass type
Fun fact, as of Gen 9, Chatot holds the crown for Strongest Stab Boomburst in the game
I'm now realizing chatot's head looks like a musical note
All hail Spheal
Heat Wave is "hot wind" in Japanese, so thematically it fits on flying types.
Wings can create wind, Heatwave is a wind based attack
Boomburst == Boom + sounds. Birds screech loud and if they fly fast enough break soundbarrier. xD I think they are just combining both of these images into a "plausible ability". Ofc no one is naturally doing any of that and they aren't fast enough nor loud enough for that... but then again, no one is naturally shooting a hyber beam either, so.
Can't you start adding like the stats of the pokemon u are talking about so we understand morem i love these videos
Ah yes, type: null’s *pre*-evolution silvally
yeah that was a pretty dumb writing mistake lol mb
I’ll keep saying this every time I hear Chatot slander: a 100% confusion move + boomburst and coverage is really all you need. I used it in gen 6 OU and against the unprepared it would very often pick up at least 1-2 KOs. Often would down half the other team with a little luck.
Chatot will give any random battles player ptsd
Heat wave is just called Hot Wind in japan
Heat wave’s Japanese name lite3rally means”hot wind”.
I noticed two of the Pokémon mentioned are from gen 4.
I love Carnivine,silly chomper
Chatot is in the same boat as porygon-z
Good afternoon everyone!
