- Today I'm on the road again making videos for my friends and I couldn't wait to get on the road again
Let's talk about being on call and available to staff and business around the clock 24-7 in I.T.
There are some information technology jobs out there that require you to be on-call and available to the business 24-7.
My IT job in Florida doesn’t pay anything extra and there are only 2 of us in the rotation. They require us to stay close by. We get calls ALL the time and the criteria of what is considered to be an emergency is constantly violated. Us techs have no downtime and no work/life balance. It’s modern slavery. I quit that job last summer.
I’m on call for the railroad. I hate every moment of it. I need a fucking life.
If i'm on call 24/7 i need a standby pay or it's not worth it cause you can't do anything. If the location is close to home i'm usually pretty good for it but it being required is a scam and should be illegal. Anything working in the "vulnurable sector" should be viewed as a different thing. You help people and i just make car parts so it's not exacltly a fair comparison. Alot of private companies do shady things to avoid paying minum wages ext. I know the trucking industry and restruant industy is rype with that stuff. It's also slippery territory when it comes to labor insurance. If an on call employees gets in a car accident driving to work in the snow cause they were called in it can often take months or years to claim anything. If you don't work at a hospital or fire station don't work on call without proper compensation and insurance
Great video Zac as I am going into healthcare administration specialist in healthcare information systems 👍🏻💡📀👩🏻💻💪🏻💚
Well I defiantly want go go into Linux infrastructure so that if i'm on call at least it won't be a damn printing issue.
I didnt know what i wanted to be when I grow up until i learned about I.T.'s. I'm only 14 but it worries me everyday cause I know I won't be a kid for much longer. Can you give me advice for career choices it would help out a lot. Thx
Diesel Mechanic or Marine Mechanic you will make six figures in North America and it will go up as they are dieing trades. Automation Engineering is also good
Are there any mid level to higher level IT jobs that do not require on call? Heck even entry level I guess. I'm on call right now and I am not fond of it to say the least. Looking to maybe get my CCENT and wondering about the on call jobs in IT that don't require on call. Thanks.
Same! It’s rare to have no on call for IT
No!
That's a hospital. They make millions at each site. Computers are mission critical.
You're getting screwed
Okay but does on-call jobs pay more?
21hour not bad.
Nope lmao. Get ready to work 50 hours a week possibly more with no overtime. And the company will 100% lowball you on your salary.
Don’t drive and vlog
It’s bad for sound quality
