I can't help thinking an asmr cupping video would be great for April Fool's. The pleasant roasting, grinding, gentle tinkle of the spoon against the side of the cup. Then a Mach 4 shluuurrrp.
Thanks J! I love the Hive. It’s a company that’s a one man show, and he’s got some with now that can be hooked up to roasting software, and with digital temperature read outs. But for this one, I wanted to use the fully manual, “pure” version.
Awesome video. Went for the flair pro 2 myself, but the workflow is almost the same and it's always sooo relaxing. Might I ask if you used the coffee straight after roasting? I often read, that you should at least let ot rest for 4 to 5 days.
Are the beans roasted for need to use basis or as a batch and kept aside. Motivated me to brew own cup this morning after watching it. Truly pleasant and calming video.

The evenness of that roast, wow! At least from what I've seen it's pretty hard to get that over the stove, even with a rotisserie style hand roaster, and especially with that amount of beans. Was that all you or does the Hive really do that much better a job?
Does that textile bag of yours work for green bean storage? And if yes, for how long? I'm really concerned about humidity loss in green beans due to oxidation and flavor degradation. Have had problems with large jars, there's just too much air in there at the end of the month. Rn trying old resealable coffee bags as an alternative.
I don’t think that textile bag is all that great for long term storage, and that’s just the bag Royal sends samples in. I think though, the biggest factor in keeping green for longer is maintaining a cool, dry space for keeping it.
I don't care if I didn't get any tingles. The video alone was excellent! Superb quality that reminds me of BBC TV shows/documentaries. Also was it just me, but could you almost smell the coffee through the screen?!

I did. That is popular opinion, but I like to question those opinions. I find the texture to be higher with fresher beans, which is one of the factors I enjoy about espresso.
@@marcochiasson2298 yeah, I cooled them all the way down and stored them for a bit while I got everything else prepped up. But, I did test grinding beans warmed up and frozen and if I recall warmer beans did extract a bit better.
@ 2:50 I felt deceived, because I think you edited out the beans falling to the kitchen floor. @ 4:08 Ah you have regained my trust :) Beautifully shot and edited !
I can see some edited bits and parts here and there. I suppose the intention was to make this in one go for the authenticity of it yet some fiddling was required. Still pretty decent, the angles were good and the personal routine approach felt nice. It wasn't too drawn out either so good on you.
Lovely video and may I ask two questions about your routine? 1 - You're getting really nicely even coverage on your portafilter. Are you doing any declumping in your basket? I'm doing a bit on results from my kinu grinder using a small balloon whisk with the ends cut off into prongs and think it might be doing more harm than good, curious if you're going straight in or dong any other puck prep. 2 - has your approach changed at all in terms of your ramp and pressure when brewing? It seems you're holding for a bit of a preinfuse (though this maybe be for portafilter porn) rather than a swift ramp up as you described in your initial review?
Thanks John, I appreciate the kind words. So, I do not do any sort of de-clumping outside of tapping the portafitler on the counter. This serves two purposes: one to settle, and two to break down clumps. From there is just about an even tamp and application of pressure. In terms of my robot method, I still use the fast ramp up and slow hold around 6 bar. I find that that the quick pressure build up tends to fill the screen more for me than the slow pre-infusion. But that's just my experience, and if you read the comments on my Robot video you'll find there are many who disagree...but we all rinsed our Aeropress filters too, so...maybe we shouldn't judge people for questioning the norms, haha.
@@Sprometheus I ask as I find the robot inconsistent for me - I went for some espresso training to get my taste better and the teacher said I’d chosen the hardest possible route for myself :D - it seems less repeatable than some other methods (even though channeled shots are still nice) so still looking for more places to refine!
Excellent all manual coffee (porn) video. You do need to work on your hand grinding technique a little :) I keep thinking about the Hive roaster, but the volume is too small to be practical for me.
Thanks Jaime, glad you enjoyed it. Haha, well if in the end of grinding the coffee is ground I call that a win. The Hive is a great tool, but definitely could be held back a bit by its capacity. I tend to do 125-150g batches as they produce the best results for me.
