Lex just blew my mind with this... "Well, I mean, I feel like static is sort of like the default sound. Everything is moving, everything is vibrating, everything is buzzing around us at all times... So much that it seems still. So it's like the default isn't actually silence, but static." There's deep layers to her observation, and Lex just sent my mind spinning. Respect. Weird recognize weird.

I heard him say something really different. That it was about how we steer each other towards moral perfection with our policing of each other. I also heard them say it was an inside joke bc they’d say they were going to call the karma police on each other. That it’s about stress and having ppl look at you a certain way. @@Comrade_mommy I always assumed it was like that, the way it's making demands on a higher power over what is basically someone else not bothering them, the strange and unsupported projections as to what the target is doing wrong. Whether there's a specific thing behind it that they're not explaining or whatever, what they present in the song is totally unjustified and impotent vengeance, so I can only see it as irony.

Yes… Lex is starting to get it. Radiohead are the weird l, quiet kids who are secretly brilliant and always hang out by the art class.
Think of them as like the 90’s offspring of Pink Floyd. Totally different energy and approach but the same heart and love for surreal soundscapes, paranoid lyrics, weird noises, and beautiful melodies. But Radiohead is more than just great production and soundscapes, the real genius is in their unusual note choices and harmonic choices, but they still somehow make it into a brilliant and pleasant song. Their music would be just as amazing if it was all stripped down and acoustic.

If you want them to do a deeper dive, if you’ve got to request on the live streams then vote if they make it on a poll, that’s how they do reactions, they make it on polls if enough people request them in the live chat… then listen out for them saying “poll is up” then you’ll either see the poll or you have to refresh the page live chat by clicking/tapping on the live chat icon (not the ‘top chat’ one)
If you’re watching and they say “next poll is the last song” then you can request a music video reaction.. just type video or music video next to your request. They can only do videos at the end of the stream because UA-cam often takes the stream down soon after that.

Lex, "symbolic static!" Yes, love it. The constant noise, interference, bustle, pace and migraine of modern life. This song to me has always been about trying to keep your shit together - among all those other human beings. He's calling on the karma police to deal with them (by making him not lash out) and when he does, with his fantasy of 'this is what you'll get', he self reflexively catches himself and apologies... Returns to, like Brad said, the weirdo/quiet socially anxious individual that doesn't quite fit in.

The end high speed static and then it's slowed distortion into silence makes me think of the different moments of chaos we go through that eventually fade. Similar to like you said about "wit's end". The wonky distortion is like the emotional rollercoaster inbetween the chaos and that eventual quiet numbness or enlightenment to move on once we can rationalize the experience.

I can definitively say without hesitation this is my favorite song of all songs. I can claim this because ever since it came out with all the music and genres I’ve heard and enjoyed, this is the only song I can not ever skip if it comes on, I never tire of it, I have gotten into loops where I have listened to it multiple times in a row and recently too, so many sounds to listen to. I taught myself piano to learn this song and have multiple covers in different genres because it’s a song that can flow to different styles. This is from OK Computer which is essentially a concept album. I mean it'll probably still feel cryptic to you even after listening to the whole album for the first time, but you'll get more context regarding the overall vibe. The album is about society's descent into a more computer-centric and controlled world. Its got musical influences on it ranging from Miles Davis's "Bitches Brew" to EDM to R.E.M. Still one of the best albums I've ever heard. I don't really like to rank music anymore, but I wouldn't argue with anyone putting it in their top 5 or 10 albums. Its really good.

Within the context of the record this is from 'OK Computer' this song immediately proceeds 'Fitter Happier' - which is a robotic voice writing the code of humanity. The static sound at the end of this track (to me) represents the technological taking over from the human.

For the casual listener, I think Street Spirit, There There, idioteque, Paranoid Android and 15 Steps would be the best Radiohead exposure.

I always took that sound at the end to represent a deteriorating mental state, or deteriorating grip or control of emotion. Or maybe the opposite, a return to chaos/static that he used to drown out the other thoughts, we dipped into a vindictive frame for a minute, then gain control by blocking out those thoughts, the static.

It's about a mixed bag of revenge, redemption, and forgiveness but also memories that can never be forgotten. Revenge is all consuming. It's all you think about when you're in it. It's the only path forward towards redemption from perceived wrongs. Eventually, those feelings fade but the hurt is still there. "This is what you get" But, you rise above it and become something larger than the hurt you bore. but it's still there. "For a minute there I lost myself, I lost myself." Forever.

“Karma” is about balance in the universe... what goes around comes around... justice, punishment, reward. The song is about how the present is affected by the past, and how he can’t escape a life of consequence. That’s why he sounds so happy “for a minute” when he loses himself. Great reaction!! Keep checking out RADIOHEAD!!

The sounds of the fingers moving frets during the 'This is what you get' parts add so much extra creep factor to this song, I love it.
Also sparks memories of high school. During morning assembly, you'd get someone on piano playing a hymn each morning while people were entering the hall. One morning, someone was playing this. I think a handful of us who listened to indie back then knew what it was, including the PE teacher, but I think everyone else was totally oblivious and it went under the radar of the more 'traditional' teachers :D
Check out 'Fake Plastic Trees' next.

With regards to the static sound at the end, I think someone else may have said it - it's contextual on the album. Also, it more than likely relates to the lyrics of the song:
"He buzzes like a fridge, he's like a detuned radio."
'OK Computer' is one of the best Rock albums of all time to me. It came out when I was 17 in 1997 and all these years later, it makes me feel the same as it did back then.
