At this point I think they're spending so little money on their harvest moon games that even if 10 people buy them, they have enough money to build the next
Sometimes it greatly upsets me that Natsume owns the rights to the Harvest Moon trademark and not Marvelous. Marvelous's recent Story of Seasons games haven't been the best however I feel they merit being able to be called harvest moon more than whatever it is Natsume keeps slapping that name on.
Just to clarify, all Natsume owns is the english name, which by the way, isn't even a translation of the actual name of the game. Bokujou Monogatari stays Bokujou Monogatari. In the end, nothing changed. In fact, the new name actually has the word "Story" in it which makes way more sense.
Agreed. At least Marvelous is trying to fix the games issues and improve the game makers and dialogue. Marvelous clearly cares about their game unlike Natsume.
@@rafaelcalmon2858 The main problem though is that casual fans of the series just latch onto the "Harvest Moon" moniker regardless. I've been a big fan of the series and even I bought The Lost Valley before knowing of the split back in 2014. It's absolutely scummy of Natsume to continue this and a lot of previous fans are going to think the BokuMono games took a massive dive and stop buying.
When the SoS devs saw that their fans had negative things to say about the new game, they started making patches to fix all these issues. There’s no reason Natsume couldn’t do the same. They thought the name would make them money, but its like wrapping dog poo in a Snickers wrapper
They thought right, people are actually buying dog doodoo wrapped in a snickers wrapper. Or at least enough for Natsume to justify doing what they're doing.
I freakin love SOS and I am a HM veteran. They definitely ended up surpassing HM, which is sad because HM's older games are fantastic, and they could have easily gone in stride with SOS. Natsume dropped the ball on HM. New Beginnings was the last good one. I thought they'd improve gameplay from that, but instead they removed a lot of the most desirable features of NB after that; like the character customization & outfit changes. The graphics even looked like a major downgrade. HM continues to disappoint me.
I will give one (1) point to Natsume with the fact that you actually can search for seeds on the map and it will alert you to when it pops up. Other than that every point you make is spot on
I go more into detail in the Sos:Fomt video where I actually make a distinction. In this scenario it doesn't really matter as long as people understand that these two series arent the same anymore
Funny enough, I have this crazy idea that Story of Seasons rush their game out too. Wanting to be out before One could poison too many people from Farm sim games.
Honestly I dont even think Marvelous recognizes Natsume as competition. I think the main reason why SoS:Poot came out so unpolished is because unfinished games coming out then "fixing" them later through patches over the course of months is the new norm. Just look at any release day of a modern AAA game and see how buggy/unpolished they are
Definitely. In addition to the developer who worked on previous story of seasons focusing on Rune Factory, SoS Poot just feels kinda rushed considering all the bugs and issues. It's a good game definitely but it could've been better
Actually, the release date of One World was announced to push back even before the release date of Story of Seasons. They just happened to have a close release date. Also, the game actually has a Wisps tracker that you can use to search what seeds you want to get and where the wisps who give the seeds are located. I think they're pressured to make the game in 3D because they were aiming for a Switch market, and 2D farming games have the impression of products made by indie developers, whereas Natsume is a non-indie company.
There was a segment in the detective bit where I did mention the dates for the releases dont add up, but found it unnecessary because they ended up aligning their DLC release dates with the release of PooT anyways. Also the spirit tracker feature is unintuitive and I didnt use it through my initial playthrough and I wanted to project that in the video. (Mostly my fault though, but the gameplay still wouldve been horrible even with the addition of the spirit tracker) ALSO, LoH was for console/PC as well and still was (2Dish), being on console doesn't really justify their need to throw all of their budget into being 3D.
@@vtea honestly I'm getting the feeling nintendo is behind this, almost the exact same thing that's happening to harvest moon franchise is what happened to the sonic franchise.
I stopped playing Harvest Moon after the PS2 game. I love Story of Seasons due to the fact that they make the game have the Harvest Moon feeling to it. Which is awesome!
I just wanted to comment below "Why Natsume should stop making videogames" if you could make a video about this game and here it is. You are fast. And apparently, you can also read my mind.
Yea I kinda had to decide between Harvest moon One World or SoS POOT because of their release dates. I'm glad I did a review on One World instead because it feels like a follow up video to my first one, I'm glad you appreciate my choice too!
Don’t forget the best part: Even when you finally unlock seeds in the store to buy so you don’t have to hunt them down every single day, they cost 500g a piece! Even for seeds that only sell for 80g! So for most if you buy the seeds you are losing money. It’s so insanely stupid.
Omg... I hate to sound like a broken record but like... literally every single point you made in this video applies to Pokemon SwSh... To the point where I honestly feel like Natsume and GameFreak are secretly being run by the same people.
That's kinda subjective and you cant really compare the two games directly, but you can compare the similarities in their design philosophies (ex: people will buy our games regardless due to the brand recognition so why bother putting more effort than is needed)
I think Harvest Moon still has a chance, but it really needs to become its own thing. They're already trying and even though most of the ideas are extremely bad, I think it could work if they take the open world idea a bit further. Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town has its own problems and I'm afraid it's a few step backwards from what the series used to be. It's not THAT bad yet, but I think it keeps getting closer to Harvest Moon "quality", which could actually be a chance for Natsume. Use their moment of weakness to come out with a better product by understanding what made old entries of the series so good. Maybe some day we'll have a reason to like both IPs equally for different reasons.
Yeah i agree they could also do better form changing the name. I really feel it throws off fans who don’t know abt the name issues and legal issues. Using recurring characters made og games fun af and giving ppl way more to do in the games and natsume should make harvest moon more personalized
Tbh any company can hire a competent concept artist to make their characters, and they do look good. However, Natsume took that and ruined it with cheesy dialog and a horrible game
When I tried to scratch that itch for farming sims on the go my default option was harvest moon, mostly because that was the only name I knew, so I can see why folks keep getting the new one, even if it's meh/sucks, some people just don't know any better.
The only reason I see people would buy these "Harvest Moon" over Story of Seasons is not knowing the actual Harvest Moon are the Story of Seasons games.
I mean, that's why I got the lost valley. I was new to the genre (first time playing a farming game iirc) and wanted to try something from the much-acclaimed harvest moon series. Honestly, it's a miracle that that game didn't turn me off from the genre entirely
Dude your videos are so fun to watch and it's even better since it's about one of my favorite games, or used to be favorite game. Harvest moon a wonderful life was quite addicting to play when it came on gamecube and when you include mineral town it just got even better. The harvest moon series now is just kind of difficult to play anymore without getting tense or frustrated, I do enjoy playing story of seasons, but Rune factory is the one game i'm enjoying the most. Hope you are having a good day man, keep up the hard work you put into your videos and wish you the best man!
This was so well put! You didn’t bash the game, just called out the facts! I always buy the Harvest Moon games hoping it’ll be like the first time I played it as a child but now it’s just disappointing..
See the problem I have with the argument you put in the cutting corners is that both games did it yet harvest moon seems to be the one getting more hate for doing it despite delaying their game. It’s not a perfect one but I actually have to defend it more for trying something new and it actually being half decent. Where as pioneers of olive town kinda made a bland version of a game that already exists. (While also using a whole bunch of assets from stardew) That being said, you released this before the game came out and I can see that. Other than that the video itself is very well done and I hope that one day both companies will make bangers!
Actually, counter point on myself, Sos:Poot came out in Japan before NA and the general consensus is that it was pretty rushed. So I did have the Intel that sos:poot was also rushed in development, but I'd rather not make a statement on a game before I was able to play it. Also I was saving ammo for the Sos:Poot review :3
Just passing by to remind people that Harvest Moon still exists and is going stronger than ever. The only thing Natsume owns is the english name. Those aren't "Harvest Moon" games. Characters, the actual name of the series (Bokujō Monogatari) and everything else belong to Marvelous, the actual devs responsible for Harvest Moon games. Now, Harvest Moon games are released under the name "Story of Seasons" in the west. Among the more recent ones you find the remake of Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town (named Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town) and probably the biggest step in the series to date, Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town.
I hear Trio of towns to be much better than Poot overall, but you cant really ignore the fact that graphically, Poot is heading in the right direction (minus all the fps/technical issues)
I was collecting Harvest moon since I was 9, so a long time. I have every console game that's come out. When the company split, I began collecting both (guh!). I'll admit, I only buy Harvest Moon in HOPES that Natsume, maybe, one day, possibly, pull their head out of their ass and actually put something good on the table. Though, I'll be honest, the recent Story of Seasons didn't thrill me either. So, I call this year a flop for both companies and I will be waiting for Rune Factory 5 with hopes of something amazing.
Nope, and after playing the very 'flat' Story of seasons friends of Olive Town I don't think there will be a another great SOS game. My hope rests on RF5, I'm playing SOS trio of towns ATM and man that's got to be a pinnacle of the farming sime genre.
I highly recommend Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town for your Harvest Moon fix. It is on the Nintendo Switch. I have been playing it a lot. I think you guys would like it.
I've been hearing mixed things about olive town, tbh I'm more excited about rune factory 5, but people have been wanting me to play olive town for a while
Harvest Moon stopped being Harvest Moon a long time ago. If independent development in farming sims is the way things are going, sign me up. I've got about 900 million hours on Stardew Valley anyway, and ConcernedApe doesn't charge for updates.
Ima be honest since i have a old switch and controller by a few years i thought the menus was my joycons drifting as they usually do. Also if they apply a few updates like fixing the lag issues and loading time to get into the game and the occasional crash in the mines then i could see it being a average at worst game which is not bad at all. Also i see some people complain that there is no festivals yet don't realize that you actually have to unlock them and one would think that they would realize that you have to unlock the festivals once you get the dessert medallion as you do a flower festival there. Like you have to get a certain friendship level with the people for them to give you the quest to unlock the respective festivals also you have to get their medallions for that town I understand people's confusion and frustration about it being barren in game but the story does have a excuse and it does get more lively the more medallions you get granted the dessert is still a dessert there is no fixing that. Though i personally don't really like when games force you to go through the story before you can really do anything and at least after the first medallion you can get them in any order though i highly recommend doing a bit of the fishing village first that way you can go down in the lower part of the beach find Doc jr and unlock the fast travel trust me it its worth it and makes everything a lot easier. And one thing i will give to this game is that the design for the bachelors and bachelorettes are better than Olive Towns and the moving character portraits really helps empathize that even if they do look a bit robotic but they are always going to look robotic unless they are fully voiced so no helping that. Overall i did something that not many can say they have i had fun with a Natsume game as it did bring back some memories of me playing Harvest Moon DS long ago when i was young. The essence of a Marvelous Harvest moon game before the split is in there so i would not give up on them just yet however a thing that would greatly improve it is allowing the player the ability to get married before completing the story as in the story is optional over gameplay just like the old Harvest Moons usually did. Personally i think that Natsume games would have better reception if they quit forcing story over gameplay and just leave the story optional or take the story for a spin and progress as you actually play the game and not be forced to do it like Harvest Moon DS for example or hell Olive town does the same thing that i am suggesting. But for fucks sake Natsume quit with the revive these 6 things to revive the goddess it is overdone at this point as you do it in just about all of your games including in animal parade and tree of tranquility get more creative.
I was wondering why you didn't have at least 100k subs but I really hope it's just because you're sort of(?) new. You totally deserve more subs and I love the comedy and animations!
Aw thanks for the kind words! Honestly, my slow growth is probably due to my slow upload schedule which is caused by the sheer amount of hours that goes into them. But honestly, growth on YT in general is hard and I think the channels growing at a steady pace
UA-cam algorithm finally did something right and showed me this video. Hope to see more of this sort of content, especially with Rune Factory 5 coming out.
You better believe that the rune factory 5 video is gonna come out! I'm such a huge fan of tune factory 4, and looking at the trailers, rune factory 5 will live up to the hype as long as they keep the level of detail from 4
Yknow what discovering the seeds before you can plant them actually sounds like a really good idea, like imagine having a game where you've got no choice but to forage for your crops, say you've just moved into town as the village botanist all you have is a book of plants and you have to actively go out and find plants that you can cultivate for the villages different needs like medicines and shampoos and even edibles. Then as time goes on and your village grows thanks to your help traders come into town with crops never seen on your land and then you have to figure out how to cultivate them. I dunno that sounds so cool to me.
I played one of the original Harvest moon games (old Team/ Studio) on PS1 "friends of mineral town" almost 20 years ago and it was extremely addicting. After a year of excessive playing (I think I reached year 12 or sth), I did a HUGE Pause on that Kind of games. Now I play "doraemon: Story of seasons" for the Nintendo Switch (the original Harvest moon guys). And I have to say, it is addicting again, it reminds me of childhood. However I noticed so many parallels and the same Features. I could not play such farming games every year, or buy them every year. They come with repetitives. However, I Heard Natsume have sucked extremely since the original HM people left and did Story of seasons. Also, I see on the Video how pathetic it looks.
okay so the thing with finding and collecting the seeds? yeah, there's a way to get the map to tell you where a specific seed is and a little icon pops up on the mini map when you're close to the spot
The thing I hate most about "Harvest Moon" being dragged through the dirt so much is that I grew up playing the first game, I enjoyed Harvest Moon 64, and Friends of Mineral Town was awesome! Even Magical Melody had its charms. Anyway... I think what I'm trying to get around to saying is, "I still call every Story of Seasons game Harvest Moon!" Playing Story of Seasons feels so much like playing those old Harvest Moon games and it's so ingrained in my head that I tell my friends "I'm playing Harvest Moon", and they ask me "why?" and then I realize that Natsume would actually have to give me a copy of the game and pay me a lot of money to play their dumpster fire excuse for farming simulation! … um … Well I wouldn't be happy about it, but... Hey Natsume, give me some of your burning garbage and some of your development budget that wasn't spent on actual development, I'll play with the garbage(risking the third degree burns), then I'll tell everyone that it's not as bad as being thrown into a literal dumpster fire(it's just like playing a, "being thrown into a literal dumpster fire" simulator.)… deal?
Dude, you know, I know it, everyone knows it, these literally aren't harvest moon games. Its a bit fun to complain about them tho, at least more than actually playing them.
@@vtea if they come from IGN then it is a whole different type of bad game review as the reviews themselves are bad even if they are trashing on bad games lol I honestly don't know how IGN does it but literally a lot of their reviews are not that great but at least they produces some good memes like the too much water meme from their review of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and it literally cited too much water as a negative point so they gave it a 7.8 out of 10 the only other negative point was too many HMs which was a valid negative point not the too much water part. But in all honesty it was a very poorly worded thing they did which got them to literally remove the pros and cons of their review because they condensed a point in their paragraph into "Too much Water" when instead they should have kept the con being "Type imbalance" as the majority of the enemies you fought were water type pokemon but some idiot thought saying "Too much water" was better since people don't really read or watch whole reviews mostly they skip to the end for the pros and cons
In a way, IGN making bad reviews actually gets people to talk about them which makes them kinda relevant. It's like when you have people on youtube being complete degenerates just for clout. Not condoning IGN's horrible reviews, but what I'm saying is that it *IT REALLY MAKES YOU FEEEL LIKE SPIDERMAN*
@@vtea "BAD GAME REVIEWS ARE MORE ENTERTAINING THAN POSITIVE ONES~" Speak for yourself. If I could single out the one single thing I hate the most about humanity is the notion that shitting on stuff you don't like makes you feel better than praising stuff you do. It basically means that if everything was good, you'd feel bored because there's no one you can shit on. That'd be pretty pitiful, that the world being a worse version of itself makes you feel better. Not saying bad reviews shouldn't be done, definitely not. Word needs to get out and opinions should be expressed. Just saying it shouldn't make anyone think "This is so fun!! I love it!".
Well, I didn't know about the separation until watching a playthrough of sos: friends of mineral town. Hence why I, and probably many others, bought hm: the lost valley. So I could see other people who don't keep up with gaming news not knowing that the title "harvest moon" now belongs to another company
I once read a comment saying we should should mass email Natsume a UA-cam tutorial on how to make a game on Unity Engine for Switch and I can't stop thinking about how good of an idea that is.
thank you for saving me money I'm new to the farming sim world and was considering this game due to remembering a friend having an older harvest moon game I liked when I was younger and this one looking good.
i heard people are complaining about olive towns dlc being somewhat empty? if thats true then natsume has done a very good job influencing the big daddy M about selling empty promises. the issue is the harvest moon title, as long as people still think it is the classic harvest moon, they will buy it, and translated into numbers, of course its looking very apetizing to simply sell an empty 3D world.
I believe we could get an awesome Harvest moon game only if Natsume reunites with Marvelous. Y' know, in Rune Factory 3 there were the two tribes. Humans and Univir. The main purpose of the game was to reunite them. I think that what had happened to those tribes, happened to Natsume and Marvelous. They separated from each other so there is nothing good coming from this separation. They must leave their differences behind and together look forward to a bright future for Harvest Moon. That's just my opinion. Maybe the damage is unfixable...
I mean, nothing really changes if they do reunite. It's just that Marvelous can use the HM name, but overall it's the exact same game. In fact, over the years Natsume has been a PRETTY bad North American Localizer of the franchise. Marvelous was better off without them.
Now that I think about it, I totally agree that the most if not all Story of Seasons installments, Rune Factory as well met an overwhelming success unlike all Harvest Moon installments which were okay but kept getting worse. Marvelous did indeed a much more wonderful job in their games.
I think Natsume needs to stop trying to make farming games and go into making visual novels. I don't play most of these farming games for the farm as much as I do the character interaction. Natsume can take their character designs and expand on the characters background stories while making an in-depth main story conflict. P.S. you can use the menu to locate seeds and the book in your house will tell you how to avoid seed mutations to help for quest items.
I was so excited about this new harvest moon I thought maybe they could work on it. No, no. So my problem I found with it is that the time to explore was like here your awake! Do crops, and expl...nope can’t do that it’s already 6:00pm!! Oh the nameless npc are the worst because when you get a quest and finish it you have to wait for a specific time for that said person to show the fuck up!! I do like the find the seed thing but you can only find seeds you’ve already found and only three at a time. I do like the change of like hey I can change the area of what the farm looks like! Nice! I personally am waiting for story of season because as a person who just wants a casual game that actually has a good story I’ve been hurt this year.
@@skyla2503 I DID!!! I'm so STOKED, and you can bet I'll buy it immediately! Probably even preorder. I want the physical card, too, not just a digital download! (Same with the Zelda game coming out in spring!) hhhhhhh--can it be summer yet???
@@5Geass right!! I’m definitely getting BOTH of them ASAP! I truly hope the remake of a wonderful life is worth the hype, from what I’ve seen so far I’m so excited about it! The only thing that sorta bothers me is muffy will now be called molly and marlin will be Mathew , marlin is truly unrecognizable I thought he was a new character! BUT nami looks SOOO good, she was my very first wife in the original game lol!
New SoS has so many glitches and bugs though and I just stopped playing. New HM was okay. Didn't love it. Didn't hate it. SoS ripped off a lot of Stardew Valley concepts (and yes, Stardew was inspired by them) and SoS is missing the same unique connection for me this time around. I just feel disappointed this year by both tbh 😭
You just stop playing it? Okay good for you then. And I think u should try another game or refund the game to the store so you got u money back. But I want you to know that they are listening to the fans due to the backlash of the game like the glitches and bugs. They are working now for it since mid of march and gonna fix until mid of april! By the way the creator of story of seasons and stardew valley is literally a friend! A bestfriend, yes you read it right.
@@cydcruzz awesome! I'll return to it I am sure then if they improve the bugs. I have animals glitching out of existence, I've fallen through the world, etc. Pretty big bugs I'd normally expect from a beta game or something, not a released title on switch 😩 I look forward to them fixing
Honestly after the split between the two companies it's clear which one we should follow. Not the one holding the name in the hopes of making something great but instead Marvelous who was the heart and soul behind the Harvest Moon games now going by Story of Seasons. Seriously just get any of the Story of Seasons games be it the ones for the 3DS or the Switch, where each one is different yet all of them are rather enjoyable. Or you know get Rune Factory 4 and eventually Rune Factory 5 whenever that gets released. Either option is wonderful. Just don't pick up anything that says Harvest Moon unless it's one of the older games.
It's pretty obvious, but let's say you haven't played a farming sim game in years and want to play one, without a doubt, most people in NA would choose HM due to the brand recognition. It's sad, but the reality is Natsume is making bank of the reputation Marvlous created.
@@vtea Yeah if anything I do feel sorry for those that have been out of the loop and were unaware of what happened between the two companies. Yet at the same time we do have video reviews and critics who go over these games (much like yourself) giving an indepth analysis of what's to be expected. Those that buy without looking into reviewing the game is a fault on their part. Much like the fault that is Natsume for continuing to milk the name Harvest Moon whose games at this point feel more like shovel-ware. And yeah I have heard a few issues when it comes to the new Story of Seasons game Pioneers of Olive Town yet those are easy fixes such as makers being able to make only 1 item at a time, loading issues, etc. which honestly I can deal with. Not to mention the DLC for Story of Seasons is bringing back one of my favorite characters who last I checked is eligible to marry so that to me is a huge plus.
I didn't buy this game until a month ago, and that was only because I wanted the chicken plush it came with physically. XD I *still* haven't actually played it, nor am I inclined to, but out of morbid curiosity I will most likely try it out down the road.
Ohh I should probably add a card to click at that segment, thanks for the reminder! The other videos can be found on my channel under uploads or the Video game commentary playlist
I agree with most of what you said but about the seed thing, you can specifically search for a seed and it shows you where it is on the map so you don’t have to randomly click on the sprites... I miss the old harvest moons.
Use that money to buy the expansion pass for Pioneers of Olive Town instead if you haven't, even know PoOT is pretty bad in my opinion but it's way way better than garbage One World
Ugh that’s so depressing :( I grew up with harvest moon. I loved wonderful life and magical melody. When I found out they were releasing a switch game, I was overjoyed. But then I watched reviews and was extremely disappointed. I have other farming sims that I love, but I really wish they could have stepped it up this time.
lol I had to quickly stop my sister from buying the Harvest Moon game for her kids, and pointed her towards the Story of Seasons one. Harvest Moon nostalgia is real - and if we hadn't researched? We may have bought it, just based on its name. Story of Seasons isn't AMAZING or PERFECT or anything - not at all. ... But at least it's not shovelware.
I think one world is charming tbh I had a great time with it all you guys are very mean to this game When there was alot worst hm games before... Also I don't think there too many farm games coming out there is not enough so we have to rely on Inde hm and sos
Alright so olive town was released too early, there are glaring problems both technical and game design, but the biggest difference is *THEY ARE ACTIVELY TRYING TO FIX IT*. And when they could have just ran with the money, it speaks volumes for their standards. Let's just hope they keep updating it.
the only reason i was able to enjoy this game AT ALL was because i was watching aot at the same time, so I didnt have to pay attention to the boring character dialogue or useless fetch quests. It just kept me relaxed while pouring most of my focus into the show
Story Of Seasons has really surpassed HM. I have played every single HM game there is and I definitely think that the newest SOS (pioneers of olive town) is the best one so far a beats many of even the older HM games! If you haven't played the new SOS YOU SHOULD! highly recommend 😁
I have been playing it and its PRETTY good, although there are some problems I have with the game (future video), overall my experience has been positive
I've been struggling to play thr Story of Seasons games too, they have this design philosophy now where they SEVERELY limit your stamina, so it feels impossible to actually do all your farming work. The GBA Friends of Mineral town eas the peak I think. There were so many secrets and deeper mechanics in the game, they really need to look back at their past games to see what worked. Sucks Natsume is basically ruining the HM brand though
I haven't played any Harvest Moon games since the split. Despite buying almost every single Harvest Moon game, I never get a game without looking at reviews first so I somehow dodged the bullet and knew to switch to SOS. That being said, my least favourite game from Marvelous is Island of Happiness. Limiting the controls to only touch screen was awful. Everything drains stamina, going to sleep doesn't recover it (???), and any food you pick off the floor restores like 1 HP out of 100. I could only do like 1 thing per day. Food also rotted so I couldn't keep anything for a long time. I played a total of 5 in-game days before giving it away at the local game shop.
@@vtea They were awful. There was no option to switch to a control pad either. Thank goodness Marvelous and Natsume never made that mistake ever again. I couldn't stand the pacing of the game either. I would run around the entire map to pick up 1 mushroom a day to eat, restore like 5% of my stamina bar, till 1 space of soil, and then my character was at the clinic already. I don't know if I was just playing it wrong but tilling 1-2 patches of soil per day is way too slow.
Hello! I reccomend for you to play SOS: pioneers of olive town. The newest game produced by Marvelous! It's a really good game personally as it covers all the issues you had from the previous harvest moon video. I would be glad if you give it a try :D
This is sad because I've been trying to get this review out for so long I thought to my self, "Pioneers of olive town? I already did that", it's coming;)
If we're all honest with ourselves, has there been a truly great HM game since Friends of Mineral Town way back on the GBA? I'm not so sure myself. I feel like since then we've been playing the games in the desperate hope that the series will return to those glory days...
Its really subjective tbh, they all take different approaches, but for me I like the gameplay style they went for in FomT (and many others apparently since I can see Stardew Valley take inspiration from it). Doesn't mean the rest are bad, just for a different audience (Many people say they prefer animal parade/magical melody/TrioOfTowns/HmDS)
I want to be honest: I was sooo disapponted with light of hope and one world and i would appreciate it sooo much if they do, animal parade in HD and for switch :) in my Oppinion, thid Harvest moon was the most fun, and I am playing it even today on my Wii U ♡
Will there be a SoS:PoOT video in another month??? Please :) I've been having fun with it,, other than the copy and paste dialogue... I just want Iori to love me 😭😭😭
Honestly my biggest problem with the game is how short the day cycle is, I feel like I can’t get all my chores done to maintain my farm and do something else in that game day, like god forbid I need money and have to go mining because it takes me an entire day cycle to clear 10 floors and get a decent profit
At this point I think they're spending so little money on their harvest moon games that even if 10 people buy them, they have enough money to build the next
I think you're on to something here
Considering they have a staff of 155 people it should be enough for their income.
I'm not sure they're not using unpaid interns for the work
Natsume reading this comment like: "Write that down, WRITE THAT DOWN!!"
@@SairinEarthsea How do you know they've got 155 dudes working in the office.

I swear they own some characters too. Like the Harvest Goddess and that's why SoS had to come up with Spirit or the other ones.
the real harvest moon goes by Story Of Seasons now-
My guy you need ads or you gonna go poor from buying these games
I've already gave Natsume like 100 bucks for HM: One World and Hm: Light of hope, no amount of money will make me happy again...
Or at least enough for Natsume to justify doing what they're doing.
yo dog poo snickers sound kinda good rn 😳💦
I'm just gonna pretend I didnt hear that

I freakin love SOS and I am a HM veteran. They definitely ended up surpassing HM, which is sad because HM's older games are fantastic, and they could have easily gone in stride with SOS. Natsume dropped the ball on HM. New Beginnings was the last good one. I thought they'd improve gameplay from that, but instead they removed a lot of the most desirable features of NB after that; like the character customization & outfit changes. The graphics even looked like a major downgrade. HM continues to disappoint me.
How ironic to give word called Serious Fun for Natsume
Their motto is "make eveyone happy" which I also find ironic
On another note I also find it funny that EA is called Electronic Arts.
@@KumiChan2004 I can see how completely obliterating gaming franchises could be considered an art in the electronic medium.
@@vtea And they have mastered this art.
I will give one (1) point to Natsume with the fact that you actually can search for seeds on the map and it will alert you to when it pops up. Other than that every point you make is spot on
*even with the spirit tracker, going through to find the seeds is monotonous because the world is empty*
Loved the detective conan style investigation segment lol
Fun fact! The person who made the detective conan theme also made the theme in the video (the conan theme was based off of it) *dont quote me tho*
As someone who grew up playing Harvest Moon, it breaks my heart to see a soulless shell where the game I loved use to be. 😭
Same
Correction : It's was Marvelous that broke off with Natsume . Marvelous got an American branch now and don't need Natsume to translate their games.
Probably because the company that makes Story of Seasons is the same company that made the original harvest moon games.
Story of seasons is literally the og harvest moon lol
I just wanted to comment below "Why Natsume should stop making videogames" if you could make a video about this game and here it is. You are fast. And apparently, you can also read my mind.
Yea I kinda had to decide between Harvest moon One World or SoS POOT because of their release dates. I'm glad I did a review on One World instead because it feels like a follow up video to my first one, I'm glad you appreciate my choice too!
i swear the random fps issues and the character models popping out of nowhere makes me think they were tryna go for a AWLSE vibe 😭
Don’t forget the best part: Even when you finally unlock seeds in the store to buy so you don’t have to hunt them down every single day, they cost 500g a piece!
Even for seeds that only sell for 80g! So for most if you buy the seeds you are losing money. It’s so insanely stupid.
The new Story of Seasons game isn't all that bad, there are a few inconveniences bit other than that the game is pretty solid. I like it so far!
That's what I've been hearing lately
Which story of seasons. Idk anything about it. Mineral town or olive town?
@@taasch2505 I was referring to Olive Town
There is a way to see where certain crops are located in this game. You can only look for 3 at a time but it is an option when looking at your map.
Omg... I hate to sound like a broken record but like... literally every single point you made in this video applies to Pokemon SwSh... To the point where I honestly feel like Natsume and GameFreak are secretly being run by the same people.
*SHHH SHH... UR LITTERALLY SPOILING MY SwSh REVIEW*
At least SwSh had the best pokemon designs of the series...besides the base game legends
That's kinda subjective and you cant really compare the two games directly, but you can compare the similarities in their design philosophies (ex: people will buy our games regardless due to the brand recognition so why bother putting more effort than is needed)
They are, it's called nintendo.
@@SairinEarthsea You mean GameFrE.A.k. Nintendo has nothing to do with it since they're just the publishers.
Ay, look who's uploaded.. probably one of my favorites
Ohh stop it you, you're making me blush
The drawn art is also a lot better then the game itself. And that's a shame, cause the art is cute, the characters you can marry have a nice design.
They dont, but that's why I made these videos, so people can be informed on what happened to the harvest moon series over the years
The only reason I see people would buy these "Harvest Moon" over Story of Seasons is not knowing the actual Harvest Moon are the Story of Seasons games.
You better believe theres gonna be a rune factory 5 video!
This was so well put! You didn’t bash the game, just called out the facts! I always buy the Harvest Moon games hoping it’ll be like the first time I played it as a child but now it’s just disappointing..
I genuinely want Natsume to do well, I really do, but it's just sad to see how far they're willing to milk the seried
(While also using a whole bunch of assets from stardew)
That being said, you released this before the game came out and I can see that.

Nah, I think the first SOS and SOS ToT are better than the current installment. I'm a farm sim connoisseur, gotta play them all.
I hear Trio of towns to be much better than Poot overall, but you cant really ignore the fact that graphically, Poot is heading in the right direction (minus all the fps/technical issues)

Thing is that I want a farming sim game with a big budget and professionals working behind it, you dont get that from the indie scene very often.
Like you have to get a certain friendship level with the people for them to give you the quest to unlock the respective festivals also you have to get their medallions for that town
I understand people's confusion and frustration about it being barren in game but the story does have a excuse and it does get more lively the more medallions you get granted the dessert is still a dessert there is no fixing that.

Story of seasons pioneers of olive town soon? I got the game and from what I've seen from one world, it's a major step up
Yknow what discovering the seeds before you can plant them actually sounds like a really good idea, like imagine having a game where you've got no choice but to forage for your crops, say you've just moved into town as the village botanist all you have is a book of plants and you have to actively go out and find plants that you can cultivate for the villages different needs like medicines and shampoos and even edibles.
Then as time goes on and your village grows thanks to your help traders come into town with crops never seen on your land and then you have to figure out how to cultivate them.
I dunno that sounds so cool to me.
Why IS there circus music playing..?
Because Natsume is a god damn clown 🤡
You may want to try Coral Island, it has lots of interesting new features that farming sim usually doesn't have. Will be released in July I think.
Ive been wanting doraemon for awhile is it still in the shop?
okay so the thing with finding and collecting the seeds? yeah, there's a way to get the map to tell you where a specific seed is and a little icon pops up on the mini map when you're close to the spot
I'm waiting for a remake of Magical Melody. Friends of Mineral Town remake is missing a lot of stuff.
That would be great. I also really wish Animal Parade or a remake of it could be released on Switch since it was already on wii.
Magical melody was my first and still my favourite from them together, I never hear it mentioned tho
Dude, you know, I know it, everyone knows it, these literally aren't harvest moon games.
Its a bit fun to complain about them tho, at least more than actually playing them.
BAD GAME REVIEWS ARE MORE ENTERTAINING THAN POSITIVE ONES~
@@vtea if they come from IGN then it is a whole different type of bad game review as the reviews themselves are bad even if they are trashing on bad games lol
I honestly don't know how IGN does it but literally a lot of their reviews are not that great but at least they produces some good memes like the too much water meme from their review of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and it literally cited too much water as a negative point so they gave it a 7.8 out of 10 the only other negative point was too many HMs which was a valid negative point not the too much water part.
@@vtea "BAD GAME REVIEWS ARE MORE ENTERTAINING THAN POSITIVE ONES~"
Speak for yourself.
Story of Seasons is amazing.
I once read a comment saying we should should mass email Natsume a UA-cam tutorial on how to make a game on Unity Engine for Switch and I can't stop thinking about how good of an idea that is.
Even if people were to do that do you think it would change anything?
thank you for saving me money I'm new to the farming sim world and was considering this game due to remembering a friend having an older harvest moon game I liked when I was younger and this one looking good.

@@vtea yeah I have that one but was considering the harvest moon for a latter purchase and have been have if so much fun with sos
i heard people are complaining about olive towns dlc being somewhat empty? if thats true then natsume has done a very good job influencing the big daddy M about selling empty promises. the issue is the harvest moon title, as long as people still think it is the classic harvest moon, they will buy it, and translated into numbers, of course its looking very apetizing to simply sell an empty 3D world.
I'll get to olive town soon :3
The last harvest moon I liked was the ps1 game, back to nature. Now, i'm in love with stardew valley and Rune Factory 4
Well at least its a improvement, if natsume keep make improvement maybe they can make Harvest Moon's name up again
can we also point out like....how ungodly bright the game is? i feel like i need to wear sunglasses just to look at this game
Yea, the saturation is insane, the fact that everything isn't well shaded or textured kinda adds to it as well.
the slogan should be Natsume Boring Game
I think Natsume needs to stop trying to make farming games and go into making visual novels. I don't play most of these farming games for the farm as much as I do the character interaction. Natsume can take their character designs and expand on the characters background stories while making an in-depth main story conflict.
P.S. you can use the menu to locate seeds and the book in your house will tell you how to avoid seed mutations to help for quest items.
Honestly, if Natsume doesnt want to put in the effort to make a good farming sim game, a visual novel sounds like the next best thing for them.
Ryewood Town is being developed by only one person, and it comes more polished than this series, really weird 🤷♀️
Gotta check it out!
I was so excited about this new harvest moon I thought maybe they could work on it. No, no. So my problem I found with it is that the time to explore was like here your awake! Oh the nameless npc are the worst because when you get a quest and finish it you have to wait for a specific time for that said person to show the fuck up!!

Everyone's raving about goth girl, but I think orange hair girl is underrated.
I didn't buy this game until a month ago, and that was only because I wanted the chicken plush it came with physically. XD I *still* haven't actually played it, nor am I inclined to, but out of morbid curiosity I will most likely try it out down the road.
I can't find the videos where you are talkin about each company separately.
Ohh I should probably add a card to click at that segment, thanks for the reminder! The other videos can be found on my channel under uploads or the Video game commentary playlist
Winds of anthos came out pretty decent though!! They let me adopt a blue velociraptor I found in a volcano, Easy 7/10
I agree with most of what you said but about the seed thing, you can specifically search for a seed and it shows you where it is on the map so you don’t have to randomly click on the sprites... I miss the old harvest moons.
I was thinking if I should buy this game once I’m done with olive town but idk now
The answer is no, ur welcome
Use that money to buy the expansion pass for Pioneers of Olive Town instead if you haven't, even know PoOT is pretty bad in my opinion but it's way way better than garbage One World
Don’t buy it I did and it’s the worst purchase ever been playing harvest moon games for 10 years now
Ugh that’s so depressing :( I grew up with harvest moon.
Hm today is LITTERALLY shovelware
@@vtea it's very upsetting. :( harvest moon used to be my favourite franchise
My favorite Harvest Moon:
1.More Friends Of Mineral Town
2.Grand Bazaar
3.Two Tales of Town
Surprised animal parade isnt on this list (i've seen it so many people talking about it)
I think one world is charming tbh
I had a great time with it all you guys are very mean to this game
When there was alot worst hm games before...
Also I don't think there too many farm games coming out there is not enough so we have to rely on Inde hm and sos
That map looks like the inside of an anthill.
What is your thoughts on Pioneers of Olive Town? Even with the updates, the game isn't perfect either, so I'm a little disappointed.
Why is one of the possible hair colours green lmao
There are lots of possible questions I have for this game, but out of all the 6 colors they could've chosen... yea why green?
Dude can i ask what is the anime potrait mod you use for stardew valley
Ohodavi's anime portrait mod, one of the BEST
Can this be a coincidence that I find this Video while I download Back to nature to play a good old Harvest Moon game :P
Fantastic game!! Who did you marry?
that very last scene got me
I've been struggling to play thr Story of Seasons games too, they have this design philosophy now where they SEVERELY limit your stamina, so it feels impossible to actually do all your farming work.
The GBA Friends of Mineral town eas the peak I think. There were so many secrets and deeper mechanics in the game, they really need to look back at their past games to see what worked.
Sucks Natsume is basically ruining the HM brand though
They also changed the time which i hate. Every hour is 30 seconds only
Need all those new vid, Vtea. Almost forgot about you 😭😭
I know ;_;
I haven't played any Harvest Moon games since the split.
I played island of happiness and I litterally couldn't play it because the touch screen controls
Tbh I think this game is underatted
@@vtea I'm glad to hear this!! I'll be looking forward to it :D
Winds of Anthos literally exists..
3 years old video, 2 when u comented
If we're all honest with ourselves, has there been a truly great HM game since Friends of Mineral Town way back on the GBA? I'm not so sure myself. I feel like since then we've been playing the games in the desperate hope that the series will return to those glory days...
Its really subjective tbh, they all take different approaches, but for me I like the gameplay style they went for in FomT (and many others apparently since I can see Stardew Valley take inspiration from it). Doesn't mean the rest are bad, just for a different audience (Many people say they prefer animal parade/magical melody/TrioOfTowns/HmDS)
I want to be honest:
I was sooo disapponted with light of hope and one world and i would appreciate it sooo much if they do, animal parade in HD and for switch :) in my Oppinion, thid Harvest moon was the most fun, and I am playing it even today on my Wii U ♡
Will there be a SoS:PoOT video in another month??? Please :)
I've been having fun with it,, other than the copy and paste dialogue...
I just want Iori to love me 😭😭😭
Considering how the game is still updating and getting patched, maybe in the future if theres a demand for me to review it
*tell ur friends :3*
@@vtea *I* *will* *:33*
Oh my gosh what a nightmare of a game! Thank you for sharing with us all. I refuse to support “Harvest Moon” it’s an insult to Story of Seasons.
It feels bad that I gave them my money to make this video
@@vtea
It’s okay, you have give us all a warning!
What about Winds of Anthos? It's coming out this September....🤔
What this video has taught me. To save my money💵❌
Save your money for rune factory 5
great video dude!
Aww thanks :3
This dev just harvest our money
:D I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE
@@vtea Everytime the harvest moon game coming out, I always set to give a last chance, and my regret is keep repeating again and again and again~
That feeling is too relatable:/
Honestly my biggest problem with the game is how short the day cycle is, I feel like I can’t get all my chores done to maintain my farm and do something else in that game day, like god forbid I need money and have to go mining because it takes me an entire day cycle to clear 10 floors and get a decent profit
