Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! Yes, it should be 2014 onwards - not 2007. My script was incorrect as, looking back, I got a bit confused by some mobile 2007 titles by Natsume! Big apologies everyone!
In Trio of Towns, the relationship with Woofio ends with him regaining his humanity, but because he was stuck as the suit so long, he feels weird without it, so he continues wearing it. So, still weird, but not as weird as having a kid with an empty suit.
Harvest Moon DS was WILD. I was so excited to romance Leia the mermaid as a kid... JUST TO HAVE A STORM BLOW HER AWAY. Who made this game!?!?! Like there were so many wild things happening its honestly one of the best. I think the later titles were good but relatively safe haha.
It's fairly well known that the FIRST version of HM:DS (v1.0) was REALLY BUGGY. So much so that they had to stop production of the current batch, fix the issues and then release an updated version (v1.1) for the rest of it's lifetime. I found out the hard way when I tried to achieve certain tasks as a kid only to find out it was PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE on the version I had. You can tell the difference in the versions by the printed serial number on the back of the DS cart, if it has something like ABCEN0Jxx (where xx can be any 2 random digits) then you unfortunately have the original buggy v1.0 release, though if you got something like ABCEN1Jxx then you would have the updated v1.1 version. In the end I did end up picking up a v1.1 much later on in life for the sake of completion.
In Harvest Moon DS if you have a level 100 poison mushroom and put it in the stew in the festival you get a game over (the credits start). That's just so funny to me 😅
My first Harvest Moon game was Harvest Moon Animal Parade. So far the only weird things I can remember off the top of my head is a rubber duck appears in your water tower at random, Luna calls Selena trash, how to end the game you have to have your first born child water a tree for a week and send them off to Waffle Island. And then said Child returns to your New Game+ to give you gifts. If you think about it, its kinda morbid. "Ah I'm on my own adventure to save an island! Yay I did it! Time to go home! Huh. Why does no one remember me?"
I could talk about Harvest Moon for DAAAAAYYYYYSSSS!!! I was replaying Harvest Moon Back to Nature recently and realized how dark this game could get sometimes. Lots of mentions of death and a couple of broken marriages. Fun Stuff!
Some other notable ones which would fit in this would prob be: The fact that in HM:DS you can legit get two bad endings related to death of people, one at start where you attack Thomas and don't help him while your dog attacks him and then it rolls credits, and the other one is by putting a Lv. 100 Poison Mushroom for the harvest festival stew where you presumably kill the whole town and yourself in a cult like fashion. (Though in all fairness here, it's really rare to see the 2nd one given how hard it is to get one to Lv. 100.) There is also the FoMT whole hidden 4:44 watching tv horror bit which in the JP version is a superstition, while in the NA version it's a legit bug which scares ya cus it loops text on the screen and sometimes can softlock you.
Awesome video! Another semi creepy detail about DS Cute is with Daryel. He mentions his forefathers did amazing work with cloning, now that cool but when you consider how weird it is that all the villagers looks and act the same as they do in a Wonderful life BUT with this game taking place on the timeline like 3 generations later or something since the old player farmer from AWL has their grave in DS Cute, it kinda leads me to believe it’s a town of clones. That might be why in game after you have the post child time skip the circus comes and sets up shop there. A town of clones is probably a good side attraction for a circus.
My first game in the series was Harvest Moon DS as well, what a fabulous coincidence! When I clicked on this video and heard that, I was fully expecting you to talk about Thomas’ death scene in the boy version of the game, but I was quite pleasantly surprised that you took the time to talk about other dark parts of DS! Lovely video, glad I got it in my recommendations!
in Harvest Moon DS, there's a bunch of dreams the player can have on new year's. one of them is extremely rare and has barely any footage online. in it, you and several villagers are gathered in a cave with Leia the mermaid. everyone starts chanting "fish" and the screen cuts to black. when it returns, Leia is gone, and everyone is eating fish. the implications... there's only one video showing it, called "Harvest moon DS New years Dream: big catch". at first I thought it was fake, but there's forum posts and japanese sites that mention it. hopefully someone can get better footage of the dream.
My first ever harvest moon game was a new beginning. To this day I regret saving over my og save file “so I could romance Alan”, I never did and because of that I’ve learned to not marry a character until I’ve seen ALL the characters heart events or 100% the game. (Btw Neil was the first guy I married and he’s still S tier)
ANB was also my first game, and Neil was also my first husband lol. Pretty sure he and Dylas from RF4 shaped my taste in bachelors as I started going back to play the older games. I never liked Allen though tbh, but Amir and Sanjay are both great, it's just a shame they take so long to unlock.
@@pastelshadows6437 I remember only going after Allen because I kept hearing how great of a bachelor he was once you got to know him. To this day I’m baffled by the people that say NEIL is the irredeemable one. Dylas is great though and is easily in my top 3 of the game, but I like Doug just a little bit more since he proposal is done from him screaming off a rooftop.
I recently went crazy because I haven’t noticed the change of harvest moon because I only used to watch my sister and cousins play it when we were younger and I was like oh my goodness what happened to the original versatile art style and I was so relieved when she told me about story of seasons and the lore
The main game I remember asking your blood type is the Tokimeki Memorial: Girls’ Side series, an excellent series of otome dating sims on the DS. From memory, they influence the luck of raising certain stats.
My first Harvest Moon was, well, Harvest Moon! In 1997, my grandma recommended to my brother and I the game because it was about farming, and we enjoyed playing with farm animal toys, that, and probably because it looked like wholesome non-violent fun. And then... It blew our minds. The little things that we take for granted now, like a day and night system, customizing your own little personal space, the fact that it's a game about FARMING. Harvest Moon was revolutionary, and it deserves more attention and accolades. I appreciate Stardew for making farming games mainstream, but Harvest Moon was the OG, before the Sims, before Animal Crossing, before Boku No Natsuyasumi, before Farmville, before most everything of the genre that was a god-point-of-view sim-city type of game. It's one of those games that should be inducted into a hall of fame, heck, put Farmer Pete in Smash Bros.!! Hah! But oh my god, Ellen dying in Harvest Moon 64 hit me hard... Not only for the obvious reasons, but because... that was Ellen, the very same Ellen from Harvest Moon SNES, the one that gave you your dog at the beginning of the game... To see such an integral and beloved character, pass away in a sequel set generations later, was heartbreaking. Great vid.
Awh that's awesome!! Such a lovely memory to look back on with the game series 🥺 Oh for sure! Even when I picked up the later title for the first time, I hadn't played anything like it before and was mesmerised! Totally agree! That's SO heartwrenching about Ellen 😭😭😭 Thank you so much!!
Here's a few more examples: HM 64: If you befriend Cliff and don't romance Ann, they will marry and end up in an abusive relationship. Occasionally, talking to Cliff will show him with a black eye and he will comment that he and his wife had a fight last night, insinuating that Ann punched him in the face and is physically abusive, because it will continue to happen periodically throughout their marriage. HM 64: Karen's family is deeply dysfunctional. While her and her father get into screaming matches, her mother Sasha is a despondent mute when you first meet her. Gotz is an alcoholic who spends every. night. at the bar, and Karen is starting to go down the same path by being one of the hardest characters to out-drink at the New Years festival. She is desperate to leave Flower Bud Village because she is miserable. HM AWL: If you befriend/romance Muffy but ultimately choose to marry someone else, she will show up at your house and initially berate you for leading her on, which is already rough, but then she gets sad because she just wants to find love and thought you were it. HM AWL(SE): Being able to marry Lumina is weird, full stop. You meet her when she's still a developing adolescent and you're a grown adult. Just because she hits age 18 doesn't mean it's cool to date her. It feels icky. HM FoMT: There is a good argument to be made that Rick is racist. He is generally a friendly, hardworking, and serious person - but whenever Kai is mentioned he loses it, starts yelling and insulting the guy. No one else in Mineral Town has any issue with Kai, he's just a dude who likes to travel and brings some diversity to the local economy during Summer. Rick doesn't care about anyone else talking to his sister, only Kai. So why? Kai is the only black/brown villager. HM FoMT: During Winter, if you enter the town square you will find Cliff passed out. You'll bring him to the clinic where he'll resting in a bed for several days. If you pass out during one of these days, you'll see him getting carried away and tossed aside so you can have his bed instead. HM SoS: The first character you are introduced to is Eda. She teaches you how to farm and basically treats you like a new grandchild; she even leaves her land to you in her last will. Then she dies, and there's nothing you can do about it. Afterwards, not a single villager will EVER mention Eda. Everyone goes on as if your honorary grandma never existed.
I got HMDS for my eleventh birthday and it very quickly took over my life. I put in so many hours, until my file corrupted not once but twice!!! Despite all of the glitches it was so much fun. I went online and searched for a version that wouldn’t be glitched, but I don’t have the charger for my Nintendo anymore. :,) Rip. Truly a fantastic introduction to the series despite all of the bugs!!
There is a glitch in either DS or DSCute’s English versions (idk if it’s in the European version) where you can’t trigger a heart event with the Witch Princess thus not being able to marry her 😢
I acquired a copy of the fixed DS game and married the Witch Princess finally to avenge child me who couldn't marry her with my original copy. I held off on killing the animals for soooo long because I didn't want to do it but I had to 😅
pretty late but i know that in the Japanese version of fire emblem 7 you are ask blood type for the Avatar, help to determine the avatar affinity. I know other JP rpgs that do that in character creation its like the horoscope for JP
so glad this came into my recommended. my first hm game was a wonderful life in 2004. i was always creeped out by the mysterious mountain path, mostly because of the wind noises and how the music would cut off when you approached it. I never had mineral town so I was never able to go up. also the perpetually closed shed in the corner of your property that I thought for sure would open one day to reveal a gruesome scene lol. I’m also super excited about the remake but the newer one is definitely more bright and vibrant and I did find that the older, more darker color palette fed into the sometimes eerie feelings I would get, which I did love haha. I wonder if the new version will capture any of that eerieness
Thank you SO much!! Yesss! I love how the scenery tells such a story and there's so much atmosphere. It definitely gets your brain going, thinking about what's coming up! Oh agreed! I'm not sure what the majority opinion is on the newer games being a more cartoony 3D style, but I miss the 2D pixels, they were beautiful
@@sbooskie oh yes, there is definitely a charm in the low poly graphics that doesn’t come across in the more bubbly modern graphics imo. the style also lends itself to creating a more creepy atmosphere in some cases. or maybe I’m just too caught up in nostalgia haha, but regardless, you’re not alone in missing that era.
9:00 Tokimeki Memorial also has a blood type system. You can select one for both you and the main girl. The only game I can play in the series (besides the Girl's Side DS games) is the SNES game so I'm not sure if this actually has an effect.
What a wonderful video that the algorithm recommended me! I always appreciate finding fellow HM fans, let alone those who can appreciate the spookier side of the series. I sincerely hope that SoS doesn't diminish the weirdness we had way back when - it added so much charm, you know? By the way, if it assuages your fears whatsoever: Woofio does gain a human body inside his suit during his last heart event! No magic body suit babies here. ...don't ask why I know that.
lumina is not a marriage candidate in the OG AWL when she is a child only in the special edition where they changed her to an 18 year from that point on shes an adult and you can marry her in the games she appears in
Thank you so much for clarifying!! Been back through everything, and yep - I misunderstood n screwed that one up! Have removed that section from the video but it might take a sec to update 🤦♀️😁
Omg yes! I was watching someone play the new AWL and when I saw Lumina something triggered in my brain but I didn’t know what it was. Now I know! She was a kid before 😂
As a kid after going through the horrible experience of accidently erasing my entire save file of Harvest Moon: FoMT I had made a traditional habit to create at least 2 save files or more. Because older Harvest Moon have been well known to corrupt itself for no apparent reason or you were trying to exploit some glitches on your new DSi and bricked your entire software. I have 4 save files on Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life just to be safe.
Tokimeki memorial girls side asks you your blood type after typing in your name and pronunciation, also Love Plus does as well XD Never affects the game though lol
from what i'm aware of, the blood type thing is sort of related to japanese culture. in japan, your blood type predicts your personality and connection with others. in tomodachi collection (the prequel to tomodachi life that wasn't released outside of japan), they ask for the mii's blood type too, so i think harvest moon does the same?
In Harvest Moon DS luckily neighbours don't annoy you anymore for using golden lumber for fencing. But somehow murder is posible in the game, at least twice. In other videogames the games also ask your blood type, like villagers from Animal Crossing. Beware, the reason why the superstion of blood types being related to personality is common in Japan i because it was made up by a japanese eugenicist from the 60s.
Hamsterz Life and Petz Bunnyz on the DS have a spot in your profile to include your blood type, and your pet will tell you what characteristics the different types have :)
Well I can think of one weirdest thing that kinda happened in the Original Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life Murphy claimed that he’s a boy separated from his parents yet he looked more like a small middle aged man. It’s pretty sketchy…
I remember accidentally finding the fishing glitch, but i was smart and would save everyday so if my game corrupted i could just restart my ds and start from the last save 🤣
My first Harvest Moon was the one for SNES. I remember waking up at 5am on school days so I could get my fix before school in the early 2000's. I've been obsessed with it ever since. The best of all of the games for me was AWL and AWL special edition.
The Gameboy Camera also makes you choose your blood type! Though that makes a little more sense, since it lets you print out an ID type thing, and that might? be useful information to have on it? I guess?
Even though i was only able to play HM more friends of mineral town as a kid cause my brother downloaded an emulator on our pc, i was OBSESSED with the harvest moon franchise. I was so sad because i couldn't afford any other console back in the days so i would spend all day browsing ushi no tane and watching youtube videos of other people playing. I even had favorite marriage candidates for each game even though i didn't play them 😂 Good times. I'm so glad i have steam now and games are most accessible on pc cause i play so many farming/life sims nowadays, but harvest moon will always have a special place in my heart ❤
This was a really fun video to watch and I enjoy knowing some darker stuff about OG Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons! :D Carter’s paranormal story was scary as heck and I cannot lie- he told that story so well! (TwT) Oh and uhhhh….I actually realised a few days ago but HM DS Pete is abit of a menace. Like who hurt you?!?? The start of the game he legit is willing to kill the mayor off (though Thomas was being a huge ass mocking his father’s or grandfather’s farmland) which is just dang! It creeped me out when I was little. He also seems to not want to do anything either- like maybe he’s going through something and we don’t know? He’s also not bothered about slaying zombie-like animals in the mines or other humans who resembles legit him. I hope that if they do make a remake for DS that they add a lot of new features that makes it different to AWL but we also get to know more about this version of Pete and why he’s this way. :3
i wanna play a classic harvest moon game but then they have you and other characters literally die, therefore ending your game and have some genuinely creepy shit 😭😭 if that bear starts breathing behind my back im screaming and playing outlast instead
Ngl i was hoping that youd talk about how you can kill your character in harvest moon ds by putting a level 100 toadstool in the soup or how you can kill mayor thomas
Awesome video keep up the good work & I played Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town on Nintendo switch so far & there is a lot of things that i just find out myself while I’m playing the game & are u ok with spoiler or not because i just want to know right now & i just find out myself that damon parents don’t really care about their son at all & they ask the player to raise their son for them & when i see Damon 8 heart event & Bridget 4 heart event & a heartfelt letter from a child event & seeing Damon crying the first time my mind coming together & I realize that Damon was being depressed the hold time since his parents are working at their job & never got time for their own son at all & they didn’t say anything to their son once I got married to him so I was being damon 2nd parents to him & raise him as my own son & it happened to me a lot now while I’m playing the game & I’ll do anything in my power to give damon the best life he ever want it in olive town in 2023
Thank you so much!! But oh noooo!! That's so sad, poor Damon! I don't mind spoilers at all 😁 I do need to catch up on the Story of Seasons games at some point though haha

This game is my least favourite too! What is with the caveman and the scientist?! They are so unpleasant 😭 and yes the wind is creepy too
9:00 Tokimeki Memorial also has a blood type system. You can select one for both you and the main girl. The only game I can play in the series (besides the Girl's Side DS games) is the SNES game so I'm not sure if this actually has an effect.
Nami and Muffy were hard to choose between xD
God i love this video, the editing, the humor, the voice, please do more HM videos, would love to see it! Keep it up!
Thanks SO much, that's honestly super motivating to hear!! Definitely more to come I promise 💪
Thank you so frickin much!! Honestly incredibly appreciated! 🥺 Totally agree with SoS! And PHEW I CAN FINALLY SLEEP TONIGHT 😭✌️
Wow...i take offense to the Witch marriage requirements 😅
lumina is not a marriage candidate in the OG AWL when she is a child only in the special edition where they changed her to an 18 year from that point on shes an adult and you can marry her in the games she appears in
Thank you so much for clarifying!!
Princess Maker, Hourai High and Tokimeki Memorial Girls Side all ask for a blood type xD It's common in old Japanese games
Tokimeki memorial girls side asks you your blood type after typing in your name and pronunciation, also Love Plus does as well XD Never affects the game though lol
The blood type thing seems to be a thing in a lot of Japanese media, especially dating games.
from what i'm aware of, the blood type thing is sort of related to japanese culture. in japan, your blood type predicts your personality and connection with others. in tomodachi collection (the prequel to tomodachi life that wasn't released outside of japan), they ask for the mii's blood type too, so i think harvest moon does the same?
In Harvest Moon DS luckily neighbours don't annoy you anymore for using golden lumber for fencing. But somehow murder is posible in the game, at least twice.
In other videogames the games also ask your blood type, like villagers from Animal Crossing. Beware, the reason why the superstion of blood types being related to personality is common in Japan i because it was made up by a japanese eugenicist from the 60s.
I love the Harvest Moon DS because of its Rucksack where it can carry many things HAHAHAHA
I love the memories these games bring back!!! 🥺
Harvest Moon DS needs a remake badly, It has so much content, hindered by its horrible bugs
8:55 it doesnt make you choose at the start but in animal crossing: wild world you can be asked by a villager what your bloodtype is
Yessss!!! When I was making this video, I'd long since forgotten, but I picked Wild World back up again the other day and couldn't believe it 😂
Animal crossing wild world when starting a new game, chracters can ask your blood type when "getting to know" you!
such a cute editing! even as a long-time harvest moon fan myself there where some new infos, thank you for sharing (´꒳`)
Ahh THANK YOU!! So glad you enjoyed the video :3
Oooooh that's cool!! Without the context of personality, it's such a weirdly creepy question to me 😂
The Gameboy Camera also makes you choose your blood type! Though that makes a little more sense, since it lets you print out an ID type thing, and that might? be useful information to have on it? I guess?
Oooooh that's awesome!!! Gonna make my own n use it as my main form of ID from now on 😂
Even though i was only able to play HM more friends of mineral town as a kid cause my brother downloaded an emulator on our pc, i was OBSESSED with the harvest moon franchise.
Carter’s paranormal story was scary as heck and I cannot lie- he told that story so well! (TwT)
Oh and uhhhh….I actually realised a few days ago but HM DS Pete is abit of a menace.
i wanna play a classic harvest moon game but then they have you and other characters literally die, therefore ending your game and have some genuinely creepy shit 😭😭 if that bear starts breathing behind my back im screaming and playing outlast instead
also youre so cute!! god tier make up
You can choose your blood type in the Japanese version of fire emblem 7
Ngl i was hoping that youd talk about how you can kill your character in harvest moon ds by putting a level 100 toadstool in the soup or how you can kill mayor thomas
A part 2 perhaps? 🤔
You should make a harvest moon iceberg video!
Oooo awesome idea!! 🤩
Hello kitty daily also asks for your blood type
Omg Kitty nooooo!! 😆
nightmare sequences in either fomt or ds
okay I'm obsessed. SUBSCRIBED
ps you're a total babe T_T
NO U 😭💖
(Thank you so frickin much!!)
@@sbooskie your welcome & it hurt to seeing Damon being so depressed & I know he will find a happy ending no matter what ☺️
