As a guy that has always wanted to buy a bike but never ended up doing it because I never felt confident enough, this is perfect! This would be ideal for anyone else that would love to be on the open road and without having to worry about messing with gears.
If you can drive a stick-shift car you can master the clutch, throttle and gear selector on a bike easily enough. Any decent instructor will have you working your way up & down the gears within an hour or two. It really is easy & worth learning - even if you then go on to ride DCT bikes or CVT scooters. I've just upgraded from a manual CB500 to an Africa Twin 1100 DCT, so much the same as this but a much taller "Adventure" type layout. I'm pretty impressed with it, love the twist & go simplicity of it, though I'm a little daunted by the complexity of all the settings you can get into via its touchscreen.
It becomes like second nature pretty quick, I randomly started riding 8 years ago and now I ride every day except wintertime. You only live once, you dont want to be 80 saying you wonder what a motorcycle is like if that's something you are very interested in. Be smart and learn to ride safely and you will have so much fun! Take a local motorcycle safety course, that helps alot.
@@Yeahright999 pointless comment.
Changing gears on a bike is one of those things that I cannot get my head around. It just seems strange doing the exact opposite of a manual car. I’m sure it’s easy enough to learn once you start doing it for real, but sitting hear imagining changing gears seems like something I would mess up easily.
However I learnt an 18 speed Eaton fuller shift pattern pretty easily so maybe bike gears wouldn’t be as hard as I think it would.
You never want to be 100 percent confident but if you are going to ride go get a rebel 250 or a dual sport and just just it a try I have been riding for a while and it's just a thrill to get on one let the wind flow
I got my 2021 DCT in mid-February, and I ride it almost every day.
That automatic transmission is fantastic. Especially in heavy-stop & go traffic.
As far as highway riding goes, it is very comfortable and a pleasure to ride.
How’s the passing power?
How does it sound and do you feel like it's fast ?
@@Bendova215 Irrelvant. it's a Cruiser, if you want something fast, buy something more sporty. It has a built in speed limiter at 100 mph, so no, it's not fast, and Honda wants to keep it that way. Probably due to frame, tire or suspension limitations beyond those speeds, it can become dangerous to the operator. As for noise, buy a HD Sportster 1200 if you want something primitive and loud.
@@feloniousmonk3049
My Sportster isn’t loud at all.
@@Bendova215 It sounds surprisingly meaty even in stock exhaust.
My Scout was traded in for the Rebel early August. Took the DCT and haven’t regretted it.
The reality of the Honda Rebel 1100 DCT ***BIG SCOOTER W/FEW GEARS***. For people with Arthritis and disabilities. Right to the point. God bless USA 🇺🇸.
@@felexberrios9475 Sure Felex, had three Harleys (last one the Road King), one indian and all japanese brands. Riding since 1970 (do the maths). In my opinion you can ride with whatever makes you happy, as long as you ride. I’m old but haven’t got arthrisis or disabilities.
I’m coming from maxi scooter and this looks like the best option for an upgrade due to DCT
@@felexberrios9475 lol I've been riding and working on bikes for 16 years..... Do you have ANY idea how many Harley's I've seen with quick-shift kits? I like being able to pull in the clutch and bang some gears out but why bash progress? That "scooter" is faster and handles better than any cruiser on the market. Technology isn't bad, you can come out of your cave. It's ok.
Thanks for your advice and comments
I’m getting older and working the gearbox is less important to me every day. I like the longer, open country rides and this machine, with the DCT, is looking pretty good to me. Very possibly my next purchase. Thanks for the attention on that option.
You read my mind! I'm thinking of getting one and wondering if it would be comfortable enough to do the nc500
Same here. No constant shifting, no arthritis pain in my left hand!
Ive been riding for over 40 years. Ive had many many bikes. But I’m not hung up being a snobby purist with manual shifting. I just bought the 2023 bike and I can say it is so refined and smooth and with customization of power, traction control, engine braking, and shift points, that this is the best bike I’ve ever had. Silky smooth. So refined. Just the right amount of tech. Shifts exactly when you want. Plenty of power. Handles surprisingly good. Brakes not fantastic, but this bike is brilliant. So simple in operation. Puts all other cruisers to shame at any price. Cant be happier. I put a cover over my Ducati Diavel. This bike more fun. This bike is the future.
Hey Mike that’s pretty gay
I ride a 2021 dct Nc750x always in manual mode. This is the best quickshifter money can buy using the paddles.
The gear changes up are seamless and super smooth on the down shift if you roll off the throttle first
I hate riding in any of the auto modes and this allows me to be 100% in control and always be in the right gear without have to use a clutch.
I have ridden this bike with dct - even if you have no intention of ever buying one -TRY ONE !!! - this is great fun and you will get off with a big grin on your face. 1100cc - goes really well and the lean angle for a cruiser is surprisingly good.
For the American market where learning to ride and getting your motorbike license is much easier than in Europe this bike will sell like hot cakes I would imagine
The DCT is fantastic, I always rode it almost everyday and then changed to a manual and sold it after a year with only 500 miles on the clock, manual is a pain in the arse.
When I got to review this bike in 2020, I was pretty blown away by the DCT version! Nothing quite like it.
I had a test ride on one of these yesterday. I haven’t ridden a bike in over five years or so and it has given me that confidence, I reckon it will be a good first big bike as well as for those who haven’t ridden in a while and lets you concentrate on the ride. I’m going out again next week and I may consider buying one.
Been riding an NC750D (DCT) for seven years. It's been faultless and an absolute joy to ride.
i am the guy that started riding very late in life, thanks to mom and wife. but early in 2020 i got me a honda pcx for my daily commute since the claimed mileage was around 100mpg. to my pleasant surprise i get about 10 or more. i had ridden a dirt bike a couple times early in my teenage years so i was more than a little on edge when i rode out of the showroom without even a test ride. it was so easy and knew immediately it would be more than just for to and from work. though it doesn't have gears the twist and go is basically the same. now i am waiting to pull the trigger on the rebel 1100. i have a comfortable feeling it will be everything i need and want it to be
I love the idea of the dct. I personally love manual on bikes but I won't buy a car without auto so I see the appeal. I am surprised this hasn't been a more popular thing for longer as it will definitely make motorbike ownership more accessible, and that has to be good.
Have had the manual one for over 4 months now. Commuting and riding has been absolutely fantastic. No high speed vibrations, thanks to a massive Puig Screen... went on a 200 mile plus road trip 2 weeks ago.... other than a sore bottom due to a bad seat everything else was absolutely superb!!
For a bike this size and weight, Filtering is fun and easy!!
Horrible looking stock exhaust, but the after market ones do justice to the twin..
👍
I was thinking how is it on touring?! A y luggage options with panniers? Or similar, not sure if would ruin the back end look
Do you think it's bad seat or bad rear suspension or both? That's the only thing holding me from buying Rebel 1100. If only Honda put a plushy seat and made a comfy rear suspension for cruising - this would have been an ideal cruiser. After all this is a cruiser. What was Honda thinking??
@@azerogliev6520 not sure if there is an issue with the rear suspensions. Original seat was very uncomfortable. I have now got the seats upholstered. Huge difference in ride quality, much better though. You can always modify a few things like your seat, exhaust etc, depending on your preference.
Just bought the Reble and pick it up on Saturday really looking forward to it
DCT in the new NT1100 will be perfect, seriously considering one next time and I ride a GSA, the BMW gearbox is so agricultural, spoils a great bike.
I'm getting one of these soon. I've had bikes in the past and I've never been comfortable with shifting. I never got good enough where it really got to the point where I was like this is okay. So, I'm glad you gave this bike such a good review. I think this is really going to get me back on the roads again soon.
Hey did you ever get the bike????
@@tohka3347 No, not yet. I had other needs that came first.
@@KyletotheRescueohh I see🤔 one day then🥲
Had mine since Sept 23. Its a brilliant bike. Done a couple of tours, one to Scotland, Wales, Cotswolds, to name but two. Next year I will be going into Europe on it. Went to try and Idian scout, the guy at the dealers said sorry, we have had to take parts off it, to keep a customers bike on the road, can you come back again in week or so, we should have it sorted then. Not a good sales pitch that isn't bearing in mind, I regularly tour to Europe, don't fancy being by the side of the road, needing a part and the only parts are in the USA. I digress, the DCT is excellent, especially now I am in my mid 60's and joints don't function the same as they did in my 30's. It works for me, and thats what matters, I love it.
Nice one Bob !
It wouldn't be my first choice of bike but I've warmed to it thanks to your balanced review.
I'd have to lose that bread bin for a silencer thou... 😉
I would get one, I think they are quite cool. Just a correction though, they are not like an automatic gearbox, they do not have a torque converter or clutch packs, they are closer to a standard manual gearbox with a fairly standard multi plate clutch and gears which are controlled by a series of solenoids and a computer. Theoretically they should last longer than a standard clutch/gearbox because there is minimal clutch slippage and the gearshifts are consistently just right. The biggest issue for cars with DCT is owners not understanding how to use them correctly.
I own a 2015 VW Passat TDI SEL with the DSG transmission. Operation is simple, but the operator needs to pay attention to the learning curve, and learn the gearbox patterns, and adapt, because the gearbox shifting isn't going to learn you and your idiotocratic driving patterns and habits. Done right, it's superb, done ignorant, it's not the most pleasant and can clunk or leave you in a lurch. It will shift from 1st to 2nd even if barely rolling, trying to make a left hand turn in front of on coming traffic. Solution is to put it in Manual shift mode before you start your left hand turn then back into Drive mode when ready for 2nd gear shift.
Think about a sleeve that fits over the left grip with a knob that is just under the park lever. Good for only low speed maneuvers, not to use for normal riding speed. This would give more secure feeling should you ever have to take your right foot off the peg and then automatically use the drop(front brake) lever. It happens.
Got one a week ago and it is such a joy.. and so fast..
Another great review @MOTOBOB, considering one of these for the commute as my Tuono is all fire and does not take suburban carriers lightly in peak hour. Did you get a chance to check the storage accomodation under the saddle? Enjoy your winter up there :)
DCT, like many premium sport cars, is an automated(computer control) manual transmission. The old school automatic transmission has a torque converter which allows slow shift times and a slushy tranny. Plus a regular automatic transmission would add tremendous weight and complexity.
as someone who wants to get into riding, i know the 1100 is a bit large to start but this bike really checks all the boxes for me.
This is my first time seeing this dct bike and I Love what I'm seeing so far. I've given up on shifting gears and have been riding a 2020 Suzuki Burgman 400 for that reason. But, hold on Now there is a Real motorcycle with a great dct and a 1100 cc engine...take my money please
Got one of these at the mo as a courtesy bike as a neighbour hit my Indian hooligan. Style wise I think the rebel is ok not ugly not pretty but not on my list either way. That said it is an amazing bike it handles so well feels light as a feather but glued to the road and with the dct in sport it's insane fun. Would highly recommend...just a great riding bike
Thanks for this great review. And what a great motorcycle!
Honestly having the option of transmission on the fly is really the sort of innovation I’m all for in bikes.
Having one bike nowadays because moneys tight, it’s nice to have one bike that can do it all
As a new rider I’m trying to decide between the Honda rebel 1100 and the Indian scout rogue - any comments/advice would be appreciated. I like how ‘easy’ this is but love the rawness of the Rogue.. thanks
Sissy bar on the back. Luggage roll slotted over it. It even has under-seat storage. All it needs for me is a 2'' higher seat. Easily done. And with the metal rear mudguard, you could leave the seat off and fit a magnetic tank bag on the mudguard. I even half-like the mini batwing fairing.
DCT is amazing wouldn’t go back to manual but my version is an Africa Twin DCT ❤
Love the awesome looking windshield.
Did that bat wing fairing keep the wind off your hands? Great video
Is it comfy on short road trips of 300-500 miles (seat, power, ergo's)
While slightly odd looking it could be a great platform for customisation.
Ughhhhh can’t wait to get one😫😫
Would make a pretty good back end of a single seat reverse trike!
Maybe I'm way off center but I would like to see belt drive, hydraulic valves and heated grips. It is a cruiser. Right?
A bike like this might be the reason I start riding
progress and technological advancement is a good thing.
Get my 1100 manual early Feb can't wait ..... question which helmet is that u have on
I honestly believe this bike will be a great beginner bike specially if you live in London and in London better than dealing stop start traffic and it’s an easy slow engine revs much better than the 500 which is the smaller brother It will give you confidence
Automatic (DCT) is criticised by many in cars but provides faster acceleration than a manual. In a bike there are several other advantages, particularly in stop-go traffic, lights go red, just unwind the throttle and stop, with the brakes on if necessary. Outside urban areas, with the transmission taking care of itself, you can concentrate more on the other aspects of riding. Having recently sat on one the static balance is great, it does not feel like it weighs 233 kg and is easy to paddle around without it wanting to fall over constantly. I'm determined to get a DCT bike ASAP.
I rode it for 30 mins at a demo day . DCT was impressive but the ergonomics on it makes the bike a non - starter. I'm only 5'9" and mid controls caused you to be crunched . You have to pay extra for forward pegs
No one seems to be concerned or ever bring up the point about how long will the DCT last and how much will it be when its time to replace it? Even being a Honda will it be worth buying one 5-6-7 years or more later with the DCT? Time will tell.
Bob, how tall are you? Just trying to get a feel for the size of the bike.
DCT will make more people approach motorcycles. Look how fast manuals left cars. Most people do not want a clutch
Exactly, I LOVE a good manual car. But when I'm just doing day to day an automatic just makes life easier
👆🏿 what he said 😂
This bike totally makes sense to me.
I'm thinking of going for one of these. It'll be so much lighter and lower to the ground than my current bike
Amazing what emission requirements have done to cars and motorcycles. With electronics controlling everything on the bike for Emissions, much easier to add TC, ABS, Stabilty control, rider modes, cruise control, electronic suspension, and even DCT.
From Philippines watching
I drive a suzuki burgman 400. Clearly automatic with high speeds. Is the transition from a maxi scooter that much different to a Honda rebel DCT?
Wonderful examples of glottal stops!
I work as a detailer at a Powersports dealership and I had the pleasure to ride both the Automatic and Manual version and I must say with all honesty I prefer the manual but the automatic would be perfect for someone who's not as confident with shifting gears
I absolutely need this
A-ha the Shoei whistle 😂
Great video, great channel 👍
You know what... I think that's actually the windscreen on the Rebel. There's no whistle in my other Shoei-lidded videos...
I have no whistle in my Shoei but I have an absolute deafening roar of wind noise......so I got an AGV K6 which is quieter but with a whistle!? Oy, just caint win! 🤬
A genuine quuestion, why do you blur your speedometer? Just curious.
I was lucky enough to find a 2022 with a manual transmission. Traded my 500 for it and picking it up in a few days.
Looking for a 2021 or 2022 manual in Bordeaux Red. Hope I find it before my 64th birthday.
Idk if I’m quite read yet for a DCT. I still really enjoy full manual. I miss driving manual cars. Bikes is how I get my fix. Love this bike tho ❤️
Hi is it really limited to 100mph. Like US version
People made the same complaints whenever a lot of performance cars started getting DCT transmissions and with all of the Internet complaining the sales reflect that hardly nobody wants to drive a manual if the CD is an option especially if you’re actually driving and have traffic and stuff to deal with manual is fun but it gets old especially when you’re riding a lot on your bike in stop and go traffic
What about top speed and shimmy? Is any light front end any speed?
would you recommend this bike for someone who wants get into riding. I'm also a female and prefer a bike with automatic and manual that will be easy to ride and not too big.
Who makes the windscreen? Did I miss it in the video?
Yup the more I watch the better I like!
What about rev matching? Can you shift up and down without the clutch?
I like the idea of DCT on a cruiser.
Where did you get that fairing and windshield?
I like how you warmed it up for .08 seconds lol
I want to get one and put the trex racing side and top box and make it like a modern day silver wing gl650. Midweight touring style bike.
How is the wind on the helmet at highway speeds?
problem with loading the clip.. i've got no problem with other youtubeclips
Would you recommend this one to a 6 foot tall?
You drove so fast, even your speedometer got blurry ;P
Just bought a manual. Can't stop smiling.
Is this Revel 1100 good for highway speed of 70+ mph?
Are you able to get a shifter peg for the DCT? I quite like the idea of a gearbox that can feel either automatic or manual but if I'm on the twisties and I want to shift myself I want to do it with my left foot, not my hand.
I paddle shift with my thumb and index and it is more practical and safe than with my foot. IMO
how is the suspension on the bike? Especially the rear? Do you feel a jolt thru your lower back every time you hit a bump on the highway? I had a CTX700 and got rid of it because there was not much rear wheel travel.
Set the preload properly on the bike front and rear suspension and this is far less of a concern.
Is that fairing a stock Honda oem part ?
I think it is the best new cruiser on the market.
Why dosent they add Start/Stop bumdled in the DCT option?
Engine from Africa Twin, cruise control from Gold Wing, and finaly Start-Stop from PCX... so obvious in my mind. If the gears go automatic you should have the option to shut off the bike while in traffic. Tell me yours opinion
Why do you keep blurring out the speedo?
Love the windscreen on the one you tested, try as Honda might though, DCT will never be for me.
Where can we buy and what is that windshield?
Honda’s DCT is amazing. I did a review on their DCT Goldwing. Amazing.
Certainly bodes well for the NT1100. By all accounts it performs well, but I’d like to hear more about the character of the engine.
See reviews of the Honda 2020 or newer Africa Twin, you'll hear all you need to know about the character of the motor
Great bike love it.
I legit want this thing
Can you take the m1 test with this?
I have an NC750X DCT .Its a great bike that does it all.I also had a manual bike.Z900RS.It had great power, but overall experience, I prefer the NC and sold the Kwaka. Really like Honda and DCT.
I've ordered my DCT rebel 1100 and having the batwing screen fitted. I was wondering how you found the batwing screen, did it give you much wind protection
Hey,
I presume that you got your bike and tried it for a while now. is it worth it?
I know there’s review videos and all but I need to know how did the bike feel for the long term
I sat on a Rebel 500 yesterday and it was really nice for my height of 5 foot 8, I would love the 1100 DCT but as a learner I couldn't justify it, haven't found my first bike yet. 😞
I don't like the more sporty bikes, I much prefer the lower centre of gravity.
Really like the thought of the Rebel 1100 DCT or the Forza 750 but all beyond my price range at this time until I pay off the car.
Great vlog
I have been looking at bikes lately, for a cool commuter but nothing sounds more user friendly than hondas DCT. It might just make a new rider out of me and many other like me looking for a cool way to commute to work without braking the bank on vehicle and fuel. I might just need to go check one out in person.
Thank YOU very much 😁
I want this bike SO bad. I’m a petite rider and only worry about it being too big. I’m 5’1 115 lbs. could anyone give me advice? LOVE the idea of an automatic motorcycle
I rode Harleys exclusively for years, had to give it up due to very bad arthritis in both my hands, it got really bad and it was getting dangerous for me to ride so I gave it up in my late 50s, I miss it every day and the DCT might be the solution to a problem a lot of older riders have, I wouldn't be embarrassed to ride one= any ride on a bike is better than sitting in a cage.
Nice to know!
I'd welcome much more in the automatic motorcycle space. I have autoimmune arthritis and it impacts my ankle, so gear changing with my left foot can be very problematic. At the moment I ride scooters as a result, but I'd love to be able to get on a cruiser bike in future.
