The T-RackS White Channel and British Channel each model the EQ and dynamics sections of the channel strips of well-known, but different sounding British large-format consoles from the same maker. British Channel is from one of the most famous vintage mixers of all time, and White Channel from a console that came into its own in the 1990's, and has become a studio staple, especially for hip-hop and R&B recordings.
In this tutorial, we look at several applications of the plug-ins: EQing and compressing a hip-hop drum loop with White Channel, processing a rock rhythm guitar part with British Channel, and gating a kick drum track from a multitrack drum recording with White Channel. Finally, we compare both channels on a mix, switching back and forth between them to hear the differences in their sounds.
White Channel and British Channel are two of the 20 professional mixing and mastering processors available in the T-RackS Custom Shop. Download the free T-RackS Custom Shop software, which comes with the Classic T-RackS Equalizer and a full metering suite, and you'll have access to the Custom Shop, where you can try our processors before you buy.

There's a "compare" function that does EXACTLY that in the T-RackS GUI, you should try the demo and you can hear for yourself that it does indeed sound much better regardless of level. We have a part of the manual devoted to explaining how the loudness war isn't necessarily the way to go, again that would be apparent once you demo and can also look at the manual. Thanks!

They are completely different strips. Probably best to say they are best for different projects or source material :)

You should always test plugins with your own material. That's what most people would do.

...not to mention not judging solely by compressed UA-cam audio.

Very nice addition to T-Racks stuff. Check out my review of "Mastering with T-Racks", by M. Costa

I kinda like that British Channel. It's a little punchier than the White Channel. What SSL consoles were they modeled after?

No it doesn't sound much better. It sounds louder. Match the levels so we can really judge if it sounds better.
