In this step-by-step tutorial we demonstrate a unique and easy-to-follow process that can be used to transform basic low-cost planks into a stunning high-end bartop, suitable for a home bar, man-cave or even commercial project. This ingenious technique uses tinted GlassCast 3 epoxy resin poured over basic softwood planks to produce an elegant, practical, glass-like bartop, using only simple tools and equipment.

Hi…..I noticed there are some notches cut out at either end to accommodate the metal structure. Are these cut before the pour or after the bar is finished?
    Great presentation.

Hi Wayne, they were cut out afterwards using a holesaw (for the circular cut) and jigsaw for the straight cuts using a very fine toothed blade. It needed little more than a quick polish to dress the cut edge.

how well dose the resin adhere to metal. I have a project I would like to try using small pieces of painted metal.
it would also be up to 30mm thick. is your glass finish good for that thickness?

The resin will bond to metal, to do so you will need to give it a really good key with a course abrasive 120g or more and then degrease the surface to ensure it is free from contamination.

The smoked glass look is really dope, is it a food grade product though?

Thanks, we think so too. Whilst the GlassCast doesn't have any specific food grade certification, once cured it effectively becomes like any other inert plastic. We wouldn't recommend it for food preparation but light/occasional contact should be fine.

We can ship most of our products to Australia from the UK. The basket shipping calculator will calculate the shipping cost.

    is this heat resistant?

The GlassCast 3 is suitable for up to 50C. We would recommend using coasters or placemats for hot drinks etc to prevent marking the resin.
