As one of your cousins from across the pond let me just say that you couldn't be more spot on. I've been looking for a video\company this clear and concise for a few days. I'm ashamed to admit that in the last 2 years we haven't seemed to fix the problem either. Come on America, we're falling behind. WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE A SENSIBLE RESIN COUNTERTOP TUTORIAL GAP. Let's get our act together. We put 12 men on the moon for crying out loud, we can do this.

Ordered my kit but swapped the colours around. I have red as base coat and silver as the top accent colours! Fantastic results and fairly easy to complete. Had a few issues with my bowed counter top. Well, it is thirty years old but now looking brand new!

can you do this with OUTDOOR KITCHEN counters? Will it yellow or crack with the weather?
Unfortunately we don't suggest using the GlassCast range of resins for permanent, outdoor applications.
We simply don’t have the longevity of testing to be able to guarantee how long it will be before the resin may start to deteriorate in direct sunlight, adverse weather conditions (freezing in winter, high temps in summer), water pooling or sitting on top, etc. We have got customers who have used it for such applications but the advice would be to have a cover to protect it if no other product (yacht varnish, etc.) would suit your project.
Technically "shade" is when you add black to a color. When you add white it is a "tint" (and when you add grey it is a "tone").

In theory, yes, there is no reason why not although you'd need to remove the cabinets/doors and work on them flat as the resin is self levelling so would run off the surface if you tried to apply it on the vertical.

A quick question: Why is the copper color a liquid, while the bronze is powder? Can you use both parts powder, or conversely both liquids?
Simply that we only have copper, gold and silver in our CULR range of pigments whilst there are a few other colours available including bronze in the SHIMR range. Because the CULR pigments are liquid we find them slightly easier to measure out in drops but you could absolutely use all powder or all liquid of the options were available.
I am not a DIY person.. can someone come and do it?
Beautifully done. You make it look easy. Was there some clear epoxy poured over the green layer just as over the bronze, or was the green layer thick enough to be fluid? It wasn't mentioned in the vid, but the hairdryer seemed to be pushing a clear layer. Thanks for the tutorial.
Look closely and you will see the clear being poured between the copper and bronze to fill in over the green.

That is fantastic! How heat resistant is the final product? It’s so beautiful and seems relatively simple.
Whilst different manufacturers (many from the US) make various claims about the heat resistance of their epoxy resin, we have never found a countertop resin with better heat resistance than GlassCast. That said, it is still possible to lightly mark any resin countertop if hot plates or very hot drinks are placed and left directly on it. The good news is that these marks do tend to ‘bounce back’ after time, often leaving no mark at all or can easily be polished out if needs be.
Just like a laminate or wooden worktop, very hot objects - such as a pan taken directly from the oven or off the hob - should never by placed directly onto the resin surface because they will mark it. However, if this were to accidentally happen, the results are usually less obvious than they would be on a wood or laminate worktop and can generally be rectified more easily.

wat do you do about foreign airborn particles like dust dead skin hairs or really fine stuff you cant see until its cured ... nobody ever shows this part but its an issue inless your working in an chemistry clean room where you plug ya self in to creat static so no airborn particles fall on the work lol ...this is a genuine question ... for me its hours of sanding down then polishing back up but then again barely anyone shows this part 🤷🏾♂️
It really does depend on your environment. The lower footfall the better. The samples made for these videos were done in our training room which is low footfall but by no means a clean room (far from it!) and we were able to get results with minimal dust issues. If you are looking for perfection or an exceptionally high standard then some finishing work may be a necessity.
How 2 create depth with water? Underpaint in brown or black?
In your main video you sand between the base coat and main pour but no on this one. I'm assuming this is because you're leaving clear "windows" or is this an omission?
Hi, thank you for your comment. In the main countertop guide we let the resin cure before keying the surface whereas in this video the resin is poured at the B Stage. This is purely down to timing and highlights the two methods of laying the base layer. Either method can be used and although the B stage method ( shown in this video) is easier and takes less preparation the other method is equally as effective but takes a little more work.
Hi, how do you clean your buckets and tools? Or you throw them away after use?
You can clean them with a rag and acetone before the resin sets. If the buckets are HDPE or polypropylene then you can wait until the resin cures then peel out the cured resin.
So, you don't need to put a top coat or a clear flood coat to protect it?
No, the GlassCast 3 used in the kit is the final finish of the worktop.
can you do this on ceilings?
Not directly onto a ceiling as being self-levelling, the resin would simply drip off but you could do it onto boards which could then be secured onto the ceiling once complete (the same method would apply to vertical surfaces like walls and splash backs).
anyone know the secret to the edges?
The secret to the edges is allowing the resin to partially cure and thicken before removing the tape on the edge and allowing it to flow over.
what kind of barrier tape do you use ?
In this particular video we use our release tape, but 2 layers of masking tape also works fine. We have since found that sometimes the release agent on the tape can produce slightly peculiar effects with the pigment so we recommend going with masking tape if you want to produce effects with different colours.
Is there no top coat needed?
The GlassCast 3 resin self levels with a flat glossy surface so there is no need for an additional top coat.
Can you do one that looks like a concrete counter top?
Hi Inga, we don't have any concrete effect countertop kits and it's not something we've experimented. Having never tried to match concrete we couldn't say for certain the colours required, but it's likely to be a grey base colour with brown and black accents. Although if it is something that you wish to do we'd recommend a test panel to trial and error the effect.
Just adding to my colleague's response above, I have seen an effect recently pouring coloured (pinks/greens/yellows/golds) resin in thin films onto silicone or pp plastic sheets and then, once cured, smashing them up into small pieces then using these shards within a light grey resin coat. Once finished, the piece is then sanded and polished up and gives a really great, concrete type effect so you could experiment with something along these lines. - Rich 🙂

Hi Glen, unfortunately we don't recommend it for permanent outdoor use - I can see two issues in Florida, the first being the risk of higher temperatures exceeding the limitations of the resin but more so the potential for UV degradation in an outdoor setting in such a climate.

don't wanna shit on the company but just be aware, this product is very, very easy to get scratched. seems no one is mentioning it online but it's a very big flaws. Actually I'd like to know if there'is a product to put on top of it as finish in order to prevent it. That 'd be great.
The real key to this is time. As with all resins, there is a tail to the cure whereby it becomes harder and harder the longer it is left. The harder it becomes, the more scratch resistant (and more easily polished) the surface becomes. Ideally, you would want to leave it at least 7 days before using (light/protected use after 48 hours should be okay) but if it can be left longer, it will harden further. There are polyurethane top coats used in the flooring industry that could be used to further reinforce it although we don't have a lot of experience with these.

Will it level itself out or do the ripples stay ?
The resin is very good at self levelling as long as it is poured 2mm or thicker and working at 18-20C.
How u did the sides?
Only the top side of the worktop is coated. If you wanted to do the bottom, you would have to do it as a separate project.
Can this be done a bathroom floor
Although it will work, in common with other glossy finishes, the floor will be slippery when wet so not the most practical of finishes for a bathroom floor.
Is your resin scratch and burn proof?
It is reasonably scratch resistant once fully cured. It is rated up to 50C for heat.
Save the resin, paint your green patina base, then pour the metallic over the base coat.
The primer coat is also used to seal the wooden surface so as long as your paint achieves both the sealing and desired colour effect then you could in theory use it. Also remember you need enough thickness to key with sandpaper before the main pour for adhesion purposes.
No clear top layer?
A Clear coat is not needed as the resin surface is both high gloss and tough as it uses the same resin as a clear coat would use.
does this yellow?
The resin is Highly UV resistant so indoors you would unlikely see yellowing for many years. It is not rated for outdoor use.
Stunning...but you won't be allowed to put feather on it without leaving a scratch. That is the biggest problem of epoxy.
Thanks for your comment. Once fully cured, GlassCast epoxy resins are pretty durable and scratch resistant. This resin is often used on floors for that reason, and although over time you will pick up scratches, they can be easily sanded or polished out.
Not to say that this is bad a Epoxy or that the finish is it gorgeous, but stone coat countertop Finishes their epoxy with what is called an ultimate top coat, Which in my experience has proven to be to be very scratch And scuff Resistant. Pretty awesome stuff actually

Can you use a drill paddle to mix or is it better by hand
We recommend mixing by hand for highly decorative finishes like this as a paddle can cause a lot of air entrapment in the resin.
