People think the hard part is Ed retrieving Al, so they lower their guard.

The truth boils down to the first lesson their teacher taught them, One is all and All is one. They are part of a system, they can never be more than part of it because the system (existence) is EVERYTHING. To think yourself above anyone is to think yourself above existence. As I said once before Truth isn't cruel, he is 'blind' the laws exist and no matter the reason breaking them, knowingly or unknowingly (or in the case of Roy unwillingly), doesn't matter. Cruel in some ways but everyone is held to the exact same rules and standard.
@@nullakjg767 I don't think just everyone can just trade alchemy to bring someone back. It's more like collateral(their bodies) for when you borrowed something. It's their road to atonement for such arrogance. Not everyone have a portal of truth, that's why not just everyone can be used as sacrifice for the ceremony *Father* used. That portal and all the knowledge/power that they gain from it is a mark of sin, the test is your willingness to give it all up to reclaim what you gave up for collateral in the first place. So Izumi could probably do the same, to reclaim her uterus, but that is probably the extent of it.
@@nullakjg767 Al wasn't dead, his body and soul were trap in Truth's "dimension", which is different.
It was also confirmed by the mangaka that the Portal allows you to enter/exit Truth's "dimension". So if you exchange it you'll be trap there. Al & Ed's Portals got entangled on their fail transmutation, that's why they could exit through Al's Portal.
@@nullakjg767 That is not how it works at all. Al was not a dead soul, his soul went to truth as part of the exchange but then Ed paid a toll to get his soul back, not from being dead but from the portal of truth.
@Anarchy Rising Fate gave her 2 young boys, that needed her as much as she needed them. I would like to see an epilogue tho. Their life long after the ending of the manga, we had pictures and montages, but an actual update would be nice.
@@nullakjg767 Dead can never be brought back to life. PERIOD. That is the ultimate truth. This was mentioned in the episode where Ed and Pinako dug up the corpse of a creature that Al and Ed transmuted. It wasn't their mom. It was just soulless creature that couldn't even contain Al's soul. This showed Ed the ultimate truth: Dead cannot be brought back to life, not even with alchemy. That's why Ed was sure that Al can be brought back to normal since his "soul" is alive and well in the armor, which implied that his body is also alive somewhere in the portal.
The case in which Ed brought back Al's body is very unique. Because they put their blood together to perform human transmutation, their portal of truth were in the same place. Even though Ed sacrificed his portal, he was able to go back to the real world with Al through Al's portal of truth. If gates are separate, as is the case for all the other people, they can't go back to the real world. In the manga, Mustang mentions he won't be able to come back if he uses the same method as Ed's.
I really like that last conversation with Truth. I feel like the deity figure is usually always stoic, so having Truth be overjoyed with Ed's character development was pretty cool.
That's a solid observation, breaking the norm does lend something to the moment.
Also right as Truth is disappearing his voice lines are overlapped with Ed's voice saying the same thing as Truth is everyone.

I'll always remember this ep just because Hohenheim, 63 is where I've cried the most. Just the way the music starts playing when they show Hohenheim 's smile...

No one really does the 4koma theater part even though I consider it to be more funnier than the bloopers.
Hohenheim's death is one of the most powerful and most emotional moments of the entire series for me.
Edward's confrontation of Truth is probably my favorite scene of the whole show.
He mentioned Nina, that pissed me, because I don't want to be reminded about this.
When the truth says he's passed you can hear Edwards voice as his eco. I think it's a cool detail, but sadly barley anyone notice it
Fun fact: The Japanese voice for truth is always a distorted version of the person he’s speaking to. The English dub references this tidbit with those last lines to Ed (since truth is “I am everything and I am you as well”)
Notice how Ed's portal has all of that knowledge he acquired and worked for on it where's the Homunculus' portal is completely empty.
That scene between Ed and Truth is amazing. Goes to show Ed's development.
I love that the Truth was overjoyed with Ed's choice.
This is how the main plot culminates. For all their struggles and searching for answers, the solution to Ed and Al getting their bodies back was right in front of them the whole time. It just never occurred to them. And many episodes ago, I mentioned that Greed was one of my favorite characters. The conclusion to his story is why. Like the Homunculi, his death was ironic; the literal embodiment of greed sacrificed himself in one final act of defiance. No matter what lies he told himself, in the end he knew he got what he wanted all along. And Hohenheim finally desired to live, just before he died. It's tragic, but somehow fitting.
The strongest form of carbon is diamond. The most fragile is graphite. Greed turned Father's entire body into pencil lead.
The episode I have been waiting for! This episode made me cry so much. First for Greed, my favorite character, whose sacrifice is what made them able to beat father.
Then Hoenheim's death made me cry even more.
Once you finish this show I DEFINITELY recommend checking out some parts of the manga because there are some parts that never got animated.
Also I love how Father's gate is blank, showing his lack of growth. However Ed and Al's has so much detail and are both different, showing their own personal growth.
The camera lingering on Hoenheim while the music kicks in always gets me dude.
Lust died disfigured by a man that didn´t even fall under her charm.
Gluttony died eaten by someone.
Sloth died after overworking himself so much that he spent all the souls in his philosopher stone.
Envy died feeling jealous of humans.
Wrath died feeling inner peace and saying that he lived a life worth living thanks to humans.
Pride dies while Ed makes him realize how he is just a subordinate to Father, with kimblee losing all respect for him and getting turned into a powerless child.
Greed dies giving everything (even his own life) for the sake of others.
which is exactly what father was missing, he tried to be perfect without the sins but many of the were closer to the truth because of their sins
Father came from nothing, he learned nothing, he created nothing, and so he became nothing.
Now, react to the blooper reel of the dub, trust me you will enjoy them. Its the VA's having fu with the dialogue and characters
Japanese 4koma is funnier though. Especially that Hoenheim scene.
now after finishing the show a few points of interest just for the fun of it and to show how wholesome this anime is unlike its other counterpart which i don't recommend:
1. the dwarf's gate is blank because he never understood alchemy he just used it taking energy from others and saying he is superior and they are just a resource even though he was born from them thus they are the main source not him
2. the phrase " one is all and all is one " is soooooo iconic in this scene where the dwarf believed in the all and tried to become it without acknowledging that it consists of ones and each one is an all in himself he took the gates inside everyone as just doors to the truth not a fragment of it or even a component of the all and that's why after all these years he never once saw the truth only saw the blank door that he uses easily by spending energy to do what others consider taboo
3. Edward's sacrifice of his alchemy is not as easy as we see it for one just getting to the concept is genius and humble not two characteristics that do well together and for two we may not feel it in our lives but alchemy is his way of living its the same as legs for a runner or hands for a gamer or voice for a singer its not just their passion or job but how they perceive the world how they dealt with everything how they felt in control to not lose that but give it up and decide to live without it requires a level of dedication and determination i can't even imagine
4. if you notice the dwarf after losing all his stones and only having his original soul still dissipated that's because he was originally a part of the truth just a fragment of confined knowledge that humans sacrificed blood in a ritual to free and give him a part of their soul and he taught them what he knew expanding their magic if you will into alchemy that means after everything he still has a soul but he broke it into the other homunculus but they all were just stones given the commanding soul of a very specific feeling namely the sins that's why they all died after the stones were used up or destroyed BUT not pride he was the first so he accidently inherited father's original soul that's why he survived as a baby even without his stone in a sense he is the incarnate of the good in the dwarf's soul
This episode really is so incredible! Greeds end, Father facing the Truth, Ed’s sacrifice, finally saving Al, and Hoenhiems final scene, it’s packed with so many great moments! The journey is finally reaching its end, and it’s been great to see you go through it so far

I was surprised when she showed... empathy for father's punishment. Wasn't expecting that; was cool.
Don't think it was empathy. Just surprised because father was actually scared.
"It's so warm". I never thought hearing those words would make me cry so much after watching FMA:B
No matter how many times I've seen this or how old I am, the scene where Hohenheim dies at his wife's grave always hits me in the feels.
Father was created from the essence within the gate, so after his Stone was destroyed he was pulled back into it.

every time when Father/Dwarf in a flask says "who the hell do you think you are" just reminds me of Gurren Lagann

Definitely should react to the bloopers like others have suggested, the voice actors are so funny when they’re just goofing around!
The thing I really enjoy about this, it you never noticed it, is how well it all ties together, especially with the homunculi and their ends. I mean, think about it:
Gluttony was eaten.
Sloth was killed while going all out.
Wrath died on the floor, at peace with life.
Greed sacrificed himself for others.
I mean, it's so wonderfully written. They all ended in ways so fitting for who they were. And it was done in such a fluid and masterful way, that you could easily not even realize it.
Truly, not just for animes, but for all movies, TV shows, or books... This is one of the best well-written stories ever done. A masterclass.
Not only that, but the powers of the homonculi were linked to their name to
gluttony...well simple enough
Envy, the envy, the jealousy of someone else, at a point where we want to be this person
Greed, his armor was there to protect what he has, to keep them from himself, away from the others
Sloth, he had great physical abitlies, including his extreme speed, but still, because of his lazyness, made things slowly only to use his speed when he had no more time, like someone who's procrastinating until the last night to work as fast as he can that same night
Lust, her claws that can be as long as she can and penetrates human bodies (well...I'm not sure about that one, it's how I see it)
but for Pride's shadow, and Wrath ultimate eye, I'm still searching the link
this episode is why i love the concept of truth
I like how you are able to come up with such deep and philosophical insights into the episode. Kudos to you for figuring out the philosophy behind Truth in Fullmetal Alchemist. The whole story in Fullmetal Alchemist is to teach people to be content with what they have, to be humble and that all lives are equal in this universe. Just because you are human doesn't make you more special or in a higher position than an ant, or a plant or any other animals. Similarly, just because you have more power, money, knowledge etc as a human doesn't make you any more special or in a higher position than your fellow humans. All lives are born into this universe with nothing, and also will all greet their deaths with nothing.
Ed found the ultimate loop hole. Oh how I can’t wait tell the next episode reaction.
This episode makes me cry no matter how many times I watch it.

Two good quotes I’ve seen around UA-cam regarding Father/Dwarf in the Flask
Dwarf in the Flask: “What did I do wrong, what should I have done?!”
Truth: “You simply must have seen the answer with your own eyes.”
He had eight pairs of them. Every one of his homunculi acquired a piece of the truth upon their death. If Father’s 7 sins had all remained a part of him, he would have understood what he did wrong by the time he reached the Truth. That line is so brilliant. (UltimateKyuubiFox)
Father removing his seven desires did the exact opposite of making him a more perfect entity. It made him a shell. He claims to look down on humanity and humans, but in essence, he is one. He even has the overblown God complex that unfortunately many of us show. Even Hohenheim calls him out in that he only exists because of the humans he condescends upon. He represents what many humans attempt to escape, the undeniable truth that they are human. (MasterEpsilon)
It seems so obvious now, but I never considered that the dwarf's motivations might stem from Hohenheim the slave's desires. But yeah, family and freedom. Freedom, naturally, as a slave. And he did mention back in that episode that he wanted a family.
one thing i always love and only noticed after like the 4-5th time watch. if you notice ed al mustang's and izumi's doors of truth they all are inscribed with their knowledge of alchemy. however fathers door is completely blank showing he knew nothing of alchemy or equal exchange.
Father (the dwarf in the flask) was originally pulled out of the portal of truth by Hohenheim's master in an experiment, so when he finally lost he return to the portal
Oh Hohenheim. Easily my favorite character. This is as much his story as it is Ed and Al’s, maybe even more so.
Sad to see him go, but always happy to see him find peace.

I always thought that the Homunculus’s gate looks empty was because he came from inside the gate and there’s nothing else to learn for him in alchemy wethers alchemist gate represents which branch of alchemy they’ve learn from the gate.
To put weight fast, you can eat easily digestible starches. Overcooked rice or pasta is a classic (I think rice is what sumo wrestlers use). But they make hyper caloric drinks nowadays, a sort of liquid yogurt with some dark magic in it ; I know they're used for kids who grow very fast but don't put on the weight and need an extra boost, my cousin had to take them when he grew like 10cm in two months while gaining no weight.

Its just my head canon but I seem to think that Hohenheim was able to reunite with his Trisha and his friends. When the credits roll after he passes, we see a frame of all the people of Xerxes looking at him(proud, happy, welcoming) and a frame with Trisha extending her hand to him.

Father would not have been defeated by the combined efforts of everyone in these last few episodes. Ed was just the finishing flourish. FMAB is the Greatest.

so this might be a bit hard to visualize but 'Truth' is based on real world philosophy.
(i forgot the name) but a philosopher once theorized that there are two planes of existence, a physical one which we explore through our senses of smell, taste, touch etc.
and a mental one, he describes the mental room as being completely White/Blank there is nothing there, it is seemingly completely empty for our thoughts are fleeting.
yet it contains everything, everything that is, shall be, and ever was.
the room is empty because it is filled with knowledge with everything that the universe is and ever shall be, and not with something tangible like a tree or ground.
The 'Door of Truth' you see behind the characters in the story is THEIR reality, it is THEIR TRUTH. out of everything that is and ever shall be. THIS is your door of truth. that doorway is what defines YOU and your reality.
It isn't despair that 'god' gives them but the Truth.. the Truth of their existence.
'Who am i?
One name for me you might have for me is the world, or perhaps the universe, or perhaps god.
or perhaps the Truth, i am all, and i am one, and ofcourse this also means that i am YOU.
i am the truth of your despair'...'
or in other words, i am everything that is and everything that shall ever be or was, and ofcourse that also means that i am you. (for you are created from me, a fragment of TRUTH given physical form)
There is also a reason the homunculus his door is empty, he always relied on others and never thought for himself purerly by himself. for philosophers this means he has no truth.
he has never contemplated his own existence or learnt from it, everything he knows which may not even be true at all, is stolen from others, this is why his door is empty/blank.
eyes are a big part of this, as the eyes are the windows of our soul it is how we 'see the truth'
there is a good reason that the 'God' he talks to is blind and/or doesn't have eyes.
for truth is blind and uncaring, it doesn't discriminate
The note on human desires is well deserved as all of our desires/'sins' aren't inherently evil but motivators.
to explain that perspective.
Without Greed one wouldn't move up in the world and attain economic succes for example to be able to sustain oneself.
A homeless person wanting a home is Greed, but does that make it evil?..
No ofcourse it doesn't.
what sets us humans apart is the ability to feel, both vengeance like mustang, or love like mei^^
He didn't become a better being by removing his seven desires, in fact he lowered himself to something lower then humans.
and this lesson i had to learn myself.. there is nothing wrong with seeking knowledge and trying to become a better being.
but if you don't accept the world and your own place in it, you'll never truelly be happy..
Ed's words ring in my head..
'i'm nothing more then a tiny human always have been.. always will be.. i couldn't even save a little girl who was turned into a chimera..''

What's ironic is that Trisha couldn't keep her promise to Hohenheim, so Penako kept it for it.
Just like Hohenheim, Father only had power god like alchemy, combat skills wise hes no Edward, Ling or Bradley

Every homunculus died ironically:
*Lust:* was killed by a womanizer.
*Gluttony:* was devoured.
*Envy:* was revealed to secretly envy humanity when though the homunculi look down upon humans.
*Sloth:* the greatest pain for him was living
Pride: was fully ready to jump ship into a human body, the vessel of a lower life form, throwing away the very sin he was.
*Wrath:* died peacefully, thanking humanity to make his life interesting, a life worth living for, a life worth dying for.
*Greed:* claiming to want everything imaginable, to fill the empty void in his heart he thought it was the only way. But as he died he realized that he already had what he wanted all along, friends. Friends filled the empty endless void. He died fulfilled, his void filled.
It's poetry really
Compare Father's Portal of Truth to Ed's; Father's is blank, featureless, whereas Ed's is covered with symbols and art. It shows how different they are. Ed lived his life, short as it's been so far, and has had many experiences. In contrast, Father, once he escaped from his flask, wasted little time in sealing himself away again, despite originally saying that all he wanted was to be free.
Also, Father's choice of words when arguing with Truth is telling: "What's wrong with craving knowledge? What's wrong with seeking perfection?"
Knowledge, not learning.
Perfection, not improvement.
Father saw himself as a superior being, so he would never lower himself to learning from 'lower' lifeforms. Likewise, he thought of himself as a perfect being, so why would he bother to improve himself?
He wanted to skip to the end, to obtain the only being higher than himself: God.
As Truth said, he never grew beyond his days in the flask. He never LIVED, only sought after power. And Truth gave him a fitting punishment: he's part of 'God' now, bound and trapped forever, still unable to recognize his mistakes.
I'm pretty sure there is an after credit scene. Did you catch that at all? It answers one of the questions you asked at the end :)
In my opinion, Ed should have sacrificed Hohenheim. Von was able to communicate with the souls inside him, and they were likely more than ready to die for Al’s sake. Especially with what the brothers do next episode, it would’ve brought what I think is the best outcome for everyone.
Not that it’s the “right” or “moral” choice though. Ed definitely wasn’t wrong to give up his alchemy for Al’s life, and he still “saved everyone” (though I wouldn’t call being stuck in a philosopher’s stone “living.”
I've bee waiting for you to get to the end for so long. I don't know how far in advance you record your reactions, but make sure you watch the end credits on the final episode.
its funny coz wraith new that a life is just that one life no one life is worth more then another haha father had all the answers within his sins but he cast them aside to become perfect but perfection is impossible to achieve no matter the amount of knowledge a person has and now he will suffer for eternity in purgatory. great reaction

again, Father was a scra[ping of the door initially and once separated from Truth he became his own entity, it's why he's the inverse of what Father is, Black flaking off into white while Truth is White flaking off into Black.
Once back inside the door he becomes part of Truth again and loses himself, but having been himself, there will always be part of him that exists separate from Truth now, bound eternally knowing that he'll never be free and will always be punished for trying to assume the position of God.
Kinda feel weird when it try to pans to all kinds of philosophical ways about creation and what defines a being but ended up coming down to “value humanity and loved ones” I thought it’s going to be something universal to all life form or something that didn’t so conveniently align with human moral values.
And answer to what exactly? Like what would happen if father do it “right”? Would that somehow made him succeed? Would exchanging his gate allow him to obtain knowledge? Then what would he become?he’s not even human to begin with.
I have so many questions, would appreciate if someone answer these.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Episode 63 Reaction!
Fullmetal alchemist, might not be the absolute perfect show, and i say this having watched it about 15 times. But my god, is one hell of a good show, and it shows it's quality in every single chapter, specially on it's finale.
Always said that this end is a crazy rollercoster of emotions, and it sure shows in these last episodes, the fact that once again i find myself i ch from the end, keeps making me feel emotional.
It's not PERFECT perfect, but it's pretty damn close

There is no such thing as an absolute perfect show. Every show has flaws, what matters is how much those flaws effect you individually.

I love this episode so much
Father/the Homonculus was created from Hohenheim's blood. It's a bit obscure how they did it. God in this anime seems to appear as a reflection of those who stand in front of it. His Power and knowledge seems to come from behind the door like an independant tool, accessible fully by him but only small bits by others. Father looks exactly like the little hands of God's power. He was bound to obey God's call. When he was freed somehow and summoned into the world of humans, he obviously didn't understand its purpose and started to see humans as inferior when Truth/God is actually all of them, nature, animals, humans combined. I feel like The homonculus was a symbol of the Anti-christ. When he should've helped humans and fix things, give hope and stuff like that a bit like Jesus is said to have done. (i'm not religious) It's obvious that Truth is allowing stuff to happen. Good or Bad and is the ultimate punishment or prize at the end. I still don't really like depiction of God this way. It's immoral.
