    Someone comes from uk and shows me landscapes of my country that i have never seen so close😂. I'm albanian living in northern Italy and I do a lot of trekking in the Italian Alps, I am ashamed of not knowing my country🤦
    thank you so much for these unforgettable views. You have to try it for yourself to understand the extraordinary nature of these experiences.

      Thank you for watching! We hear this a lot actually haha I think we just love to find the most obscure and remote places in each country we visit. It's so much fun exploring the lesser known places for us.

    Fantastic footage, I don't know why this series hasn't been picked up by the mainstream. This is genuine exploring that ordinary people can do without enormous teams behind the camera. Your rapport with all the local people you meet shows the best in people. The lady's house on the plateau was immaculate, as was her hospitality. A shame one of the sheep was snacking on a blue plastic bag. These memories will remain with you for a lifetime. Thank you for sharing it with us. Once this crisis is over do you have any further plans for trips. If I could suggest something for you is that perhaps you do a small special explaining how to become a patrean so you can contine doing this and what it involves. I am now so envious of your life choices I wish I had done this before I got sucked into mortgages and marriage! Keep up this fascinating journal and I hope you are both safe and well. Guy.
    P.s. you forgot a warning about vertical drops!

      Thank you very much! We’d love to be able to do this full time eventually and reach even further afield places too.
      We do have plans to embark on a huge journey for our next trip but will require a lot of saving / planning and we have a few things we need to sort out here in the UK before hand too.
      That’s a good shout, we’ll have a look at doing that once this series is all tied up.
      Thank you so much for watching and for the feedback too! All the best Lucy and Ben

  • @Chahlie
    @Chahlie 3 роки тому +3

    Oh my goodness, the sheep eating the plastic bag! I don't imagine there is a vet nearby....
    This is exactly the kind of village I want to live in. Where I am right now there used to be more cows than people too, but then came the paved roads, then city water supply, then a fire department, then widen and straighten the roads, rebuild the bridges. Now I am surrounded by pink houses, mountains blown to pieces, and the traffic is obscene on weekends as I am 2 minutes from the sea. And the corresponding decline in morals and ethics, and increase in greed and self centredness. We used to leave our doors open and people would just drop in, but now everything has to be firmly locked. I've lived here all my life, but no more.
    I am concerned that Albania may not be protecting enough land in the way of parks etc as they are encouraging so much 'progress'. If you look at how much protected land there is on the north Spanish coast, they had the right idea.
    Thanks for making this! Bless you both. :)

    • @FromRustToRoadtrip
      @FromRustToRoadtrip  3 роки тому +2

      Can’t agree with you more with everything you’ve said! And we’re surprised you’re the first person to notice the sheep eating the plastic bag!
      These are all the reasons why we don’t feel we belong in the UK; it’s overpopulated, overdeveloped and no longer enjoyable to live in. And that’s why we love Albania and the Balkans so much, but we can already see Albania heading down a dark path, and once these natural areas have been developed there’s no going back. Tricky though, as we know it’s a poor country and needs the income generated by tourism, but there must be a more sustainable way of progressing. Without sounding selfish we don’t want Albania to change! We love it just as it is; let’s hope they realise before it’s too late

    Hi guys,
    I came across your channel just before lockdown, I've been on Furlough for 3 months now, so I've become addicted with getting up to date with your fantastic journey, this vlog was amazing & that climb up into the mountains to visit the old lady was crazy, I could never imagine living up there & to be so isolated, what would happen if she had an accident or become ill, absolute shame you lost the audio from her interview...
    I take my hat off to you both (if I wore one) driving on those unmade roads in your trusty old LDV 🚐💨💨
    I've actually got into vanlife since watching you & fancy having a go myself, you'd think I would have had enough of driving after being a trucker for 40yrs...
    Anyway guys, keep up the great work, looking forward to the next part of your adventure...
    Stay Safe...😷✌

      @FromRustToRoadtrip  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, thanks so much for the lovely comment! So pleased to hear you’ve been enjoying our videos, and this one is a particularly favourite of ours! The way these people live is fascinating. We learned on our last trip to Albania that if someone in the mountains gets ill or has an accident they must take a mule down to the nearest point of public transport and basically get to the hospital the long way because there is no other way. They receive very limited healthcare as a result of their remote location, although most of them do live to a very old age because they’re so fit from working the land.
      We quite like the idea of trucking and long distance driving- you’d probably find travelling in a van quite relaxing and easy by comparison!
      Next video’s out on Sunday, we hope you enjoy ☺️

    Even without the interview you got an absolutely superb video. How old do you think Aga is? Does she work the farm alone without a husband, parents, or children? When you were walking (especially down) I was thinking how easy it would be to pull a muscle or twist an ankle and imagining the consequences of doing that halfway along. Could you get a dirt bike along those tracks? I think a mule would be far better than walking, but I'm a lazy b.
    It's a stunning place but I couldn't stick living somewhere like that.
    Best wishes to you both, and it goes without saying that I'm eagerly looking forward to your next video.
    Many thanks for sharing your work.

    • @FromRustToRoadtrip
      @FromRustToRoadtrip  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much! ☺️
      We’d probably put Age at around 40-50 at a guess, she has a husband who was away in Tirana when we visited and a daughter who was away studying so she was holding down the fort alone! Yeah that path was treacherous, we would not recommend doing anything of this sort without a guide as you could easily get lost (or probably wouldn’t know where to begin in the first place). It is amazing how the people that live there know all the routes across the mountains, because there’s still a single signpost telling you the way. Even if you could ride a bike at the top of the mountain there’s no way you could ride one up, it would be very difficult and probably too steep and loose to attempt, plus there are sections where you’re just climbing over rock.
      It would be a serious commitment to decide to move somewhere like that, but if that’s all you’ve ever known I guess you don’t really consider that.
      Next video will also be focussing on this area of Albania, although probably a bit shorter one as we got rained off while filming 😅

    Honestly I didn't even notice any audio issues. I had that happen once, I interviewed my photography teacher with my new Go Pro hero 6 and I didn't switch the mic setting to external mic DOH! After that I trained myself to make many small clips when making a video . That way if any audio issues happen, it isn't a loss of an entire days work. No fun :>) Cheers! Nice drone footage btw.

    Great video! Really enjoyed that one, that honestly looked like one hell of a hike, god can you imagine trying to haul your groceries up the hill if you stocked up for winter like she was planning? That's some serious tenacity. The waterfall looked stunning as well. You guys always seem to find the crazy roads though 😆.
    That poor van. Reallllly enjoyed your videography with this one. Sucks the audio didn't work out but the footage you did get looks amazing. I bet you can't wait to get back out and film more once this is all over! I know I'm itching for the road

    • @FromRustToRoadtrip
      @FromRustToRoadtrip  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Grace! It's crazy isn't it? Tenacity is definitely a trait required to live in those mountains! She probably leaves some of it at the bottom of the hill and makes multiple trips, or maybe takes a mule- there's only so much one person can carry at once we imagine. We're so pleased with how all the filming (and photography) came out, and we learned so much about this region from our guide.
      We think the Albanian government owes us some new suspension for our van by this point... 😂

    Beautiful video.
    Fun fact: Shkodra used to have a bicycle factory, where most of its people worked, during the communist regime and its nick name is CITY OF BICYCLES because everybody rode bikes there and there were no private cars at that time either. Now that cars have taken over those bikers might still feel they own the roads. I wouldn't mind if there were more bikers than cars though.

      Thank you! And that’s very interesting. We’ve never seen so many bicycles or so many people who don’t know how to ride them on a road 😂 It’s quite tricky driving through when they’re coming at you the wrong way round a roundabout for example haha

    Hi guys...you doing a wonderful jod with these remote villages, I hope on day you guys would come back as British ambassadors ..these people are Albanian's the last of mohicans as we know it...i come from Mat county Diber North East of albania along Macedonia border...i left 25 years go in search for better life because of the hars terrain and weather, and my mum at 75 years old and she still lives there with the old fashion...i now live in Cambridgeshire in England...in the future if you do visit albania, County Diber is worth visiting...its reach in history, its a mining erea as well as isolated villages by road and by the weather, they are covered in snow up to 4 to 6 months...places like Krasta. Martanesh. Luzni. Golloborda erea which they speak Bulgarian because of more than 500 years of isolation, its a fascinating region...so keep up the good work guys...🇦🇱👐🇬🇧👐🇦🇱👐🇬🇧

We will definitely visit the places you’ve recommended next time we’re in the country (hopefully as soon as possible). It’s no wonder people leave behind such difficult living conditions although the people who stay are very admirable- it’s not something you’d see in the UK for sure! Thanks again for the lovely comment ☺️
