Today I learned the break between main campaigns isn't in fact so Matt can write the campaign - it's so Laura can build her new character. And I'm here for it
Given how vocally talented she is I would be so down for Laura playing a bard in Campaign 4! If you're in need of any good bard related content then I recommend the video 'Bards: The Most Misunderstood Class' by Jess of the Shire.
Honestly I'd be down for literally any of them to play a bard, especially Liam since he ended up being sick during the 1 shot where he was going to play a bard for Red Nose Day. Sam's made all of them come out of their shell with singing and Laura especially since doing the Daughter of the Sea for WoW, it would be so sick. But a school of tragedy Liam bard????? I need it

The shared domain system not only makes it easy to recognize what classes are good at and capable of, but the way it is set up will make any future classes/homebrew really easy to make. Mojo Dojo Casa House of 1000 Corpses is a hilarious before & after concept. Everyone focuses on Sam wacky shirt gags, but Tal has some of the best shirts.
I love that we got the old school Witcher/Pillars music playing during this. I love the newer music used in C3 also. This music just brings me back to old episodes.
The new music is cool, but I haven't realized how much I missed the old soundtrack until Twin Elms started playing! I think it may actually be more difficult for me to focus on the C3 episodes because the soundtrack is effectively elevator music - it's quieter and less memorable. When I think back to important moments of C3, I have ZERO memory of the music. For C1 and C2 I have a much more vivid picture, because the music is there and it connects with the scene.
Travis literally going from one end of the spectrum to the other from Grog to a fairy wizard (small and squishy) is literally the epitome of "badass with soft gooey center". No wonder Laura married this man.
The idea of giving distances in combat from everything that you need to play Daggerheart (cards, pencil, character sheet and more than that respectively) is something so dumb and simple that is great. It allows to shift from "theater of the mind" to scenario combat quickly and without losing time.
Back to back to back new critical role videos about a new game with a different system. Excited to see this! Between daggerheart and Candela. We are spoiled.
@@chand911 In comparison to the longevity of a TTRPG? Absolutely. It's not my thing but there's a weird snappy negativity about it that I just don't really get.
If Liam continues to play his sapien healer seraphim. He should tots have a healing banana. I can see him kneeling over a character going: " How you feeling?" " Pretty dinkt up." * shuffs Banana into the mouth of downed Character.* " How about now? "
I like the fact that there are cards that help break down all the different information. Even if you only use them to build a character, I think it makes building easier to interpret.
Listening to Critical Role with elder scrolls and Witcher music in the background was so incredibly cozy. I like that they wrote their own music but wow I missed this vibe.
Honestly i think red isn't Matt's color, the black was more fitting with his overall style. But at the end Matt has to like it and it is his choice alone.
I love seeing comments positive about Matt getting more comfortable with himself. Part of me has been paying attention to his clothing and style choices since his Between the Sheets talking about his body dysmorphia.
Aw, one of my favorite things to do is read the lips of the players when they aren’t the focus. Or see them fight over food getting stolen. And stuff… 💔
@@Midori_Seabreeze You're dead on, I remember this was actually a thing they tried way way way way back but everyone hated it because they missed being able to se everybodys reactions.
I really love that I am feeling the same vibes as when I watched Vox Machina's Campaign for the first time. The joy of discovering, the not knowing what the fuck you are doing but having a lot of fun learning, and being very goofy in general. Congratulations on still having that after many years, and thank you a lot for sharing it with us
i have to say that 1 single line can help a player feel at ease with a vision of their "play", it's just an example, but when Ashley is stating the 2 Foundations for sorcerer ( 9:45 ), the sentence "You can channel this element into unique, harmless effects" is one of the more impactful, for me, in the roleplay and immersion with the world and i'm in love.
i really like the armor system. taking gambles and deciding when you want to cut down on things really makes it feel like a game instead of just "did it hit or not" really cool overall from the characters, ancestries, the risk reward systems with armor and stress. it really mskes you think about how you want to play. congrats guys!
01:41:29 Travis, this is just me in general, and I love that you so quick to the draw about it. Not saying anything bad about Bunnie's voice(which i love her trying to recreate Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors), but just being an introvert in general.
Every single one of these characters sounds so interesting and with so much potential for fun dynamics between them, I hope we get to see them in more than just one one-shot. Pretty excited for tonight's live.
Yes and No. I really enjoy the usual set up of having the cameras on everyone at all times, that way we can see everyone's reactions to jokes and dramatic moments and stuff. That being said, getting to see the cards and stats they're talking about is indeed very nice.
It felt like the cast used this opportunity to make all kind of unusual choices for their characters that seems to be more wild than than their C3 characters. Kinda reminded me a bit about the Darrington Brigade one shot.
I know it's not really the topic of the video but I just need to point out that they brought back Twin Elms (old break music from Vox Machina days) around 28:00 mark and it has hit me with nostalgia so hard
so I will readily admit, I absolutely love Exandria and the idea of campaign 4 using Daggerheart kinda made me worry that we wouldn't be seeing much of it again, but after this, I feel a lot better, even though leaving Exandria behind is still a possibility
@@macasmack I mean. They're also not. They're selling their stuff on D&D Beyond and that's not like to stop anytime soon, and Explorer's Guide makes Exandria an official part of the DnD multiverse.
They are not going to abandon all that work. There will probably be a Daggerheart version of Exandria world book or something. Probably different in some ways
My personal theory is that the end result of Ludinus and Predathos doing their shenanigans is going to be the breaking of the magic systems and pantheon of Exandria and campaign 4 will use Daggerheart in Exandria and deal with integrating it as the core system into their world
It's so weird that they all ended up taking classes that has a domain shared with who they're next to. Taliesin - Blade & Bone Sam - Blade & Valor Liam - Splendor & Valor Travis - Codex & Splendor Marisha - Codex & Grace Laura - Grace & Midnight Ashley - Arcana & Midnight Edit: I'm now realizing they might have chosen their classes beforehand and then sat across the table based on that..
I absolutely adore the seemingly universal rule of: “I’m making a Fawn and I’m making them sexy.” Fearne was the same. My Eloquence Bard for a Theros campaign was the same. Now, so is Bunnie.
When they were talking about the ranges I was in great agreeance that only a pencil width away is maybe just kinda 'Close' before realising they were talking like, the minis/tabletop scale
I made my first daggerheart character, and I have to say I love the experiences. I made a rogue who used to be a crooked lawyer (Saul Goodman essentially) and one of my experiences is "We can work this out, can't we?"
So far, and I've been tinkering with character creation as I don't have a group to start with. But from character creation, I really hope they keep leaning into the card/domain system. But I really love that while they're thematic in their abilities, they leave a lot of the fluff around it open to interpretation. I hope that keeps up, so we can still have the mechanics of these abilities, but RP them in any way we want, so a "Guardian" doesn't have to be a holy Paladin, they could be a knight with arcane magics, or a thief doesn't have to be cunning and charismatic, but he can be psychic and charming his targets with magic/psychic powers, etc. Lot of really cool mechanics for thematic classes while letting us dictate the cool fluff around them. I'm really enjoying the potential of the system so far.
This system reminds me a lot of the Cypher system and the Dungeon World system, between the emphasis on characters establishing pre-existing relationships and how a lot of it seems very freeform, very left up to the players' own interpretation. And, you know what? I love those systems, so this looks pretty cool.
Honestly, the amount of enjoyment I felt from them while they were making their characters is so nice it really feels like they love what they make, and im looking forward to hopefully campaign 4 being daggerheart

Not to mention old school Elder Scrolls music from Morrowind and I believe Oblivion.
I also heard guild wars 2 music in there I believe
Travis literally going from one end of the spectrum to the other from Grog to a fairy wizard (small and squishy) is literally the epitome of "badass with soft gooey center". No wonder Laura married this man.
I almost died when Liam referred to the full Denim outfit was a "Canadian tuxedo" 😂😂 it totally is!!!!
Thematically I love the idea of a shadow jumping mushroom. "We thrive in Shadow, sir!"
The idea of giving distances in combat from everything that you need to play Daggerheart (cards, pencil, character sheet and more than that respectively) is something so dumb and simple that is great.
It allows to shift from "theater of the mind" to scenario combat quickly and without losing time.
It has the weird sideeffect that most people outside the US have a longer "very far" distance though, because A4 paper is longer than US standard.
@@LandoLi I should feel that since I am Spanish XD
In icrpg they tell you to use a Banana for measuring distance
@@yuvalgabay1023 I tried that, end up eating my ruler by accident.
Back to back to back new critical role videos about a new game with a different system. Excited to see this!
Between daggerheart and Candela. We are spoiled.
Are we still calling Candela new?
@@chand911
In comparison to the longevity of a TTRPG? Absolutely.
It's not my thing but there's a weird snappy negativity about it that I just don't really get.
Candela isn't good though
for you maybe not, but personally been enjoying it way more than Campaign 3 (which I dropped) @@80AM.
Pause for effect…I’M A MOUNTAIN GOAT
28:52 Started hearing the old Vox Machina art block song and instantly teared up a bit- so many memories.
Reading this comment at that exact moment ❤
If Liam continues to play his sapien healer seraphim.
He should tots have a healing banana.
I can see him kneeling over a character going: " How you feeling?"
" Pretty dinkt up."
* shuffs Banana into the mouth of downed Character.*
" How about now? "
very soraka
“May I trweet your wounds”
Seraph, not seraphim
Simian not Sapien. Simian = Monkeys/apes. Sapien: from Sapient, means a creature that is self-aware like humans (hence why we're called homo sapiens).
Honestly, was thinking more along the lines of Rafiki from Lion King, "touching" someone upside the head to heal them. 😅
The fact they've sat Sam and Liam together mean's we can expect absolute chaos...and I am down for it 🤣
I like the fact that there are cards that help break down all the different information. Even if you only use them to build a character, I think it makes building easier to interpret.
Listening to Critical Role with elder scrolls and Witcher music in the background was so incredibly cozy. I like that they wrote their own music but wow I missed this vibe.
Ashley really went and called her open beta character *Oppen* heimer *Beta* -bean. Love it.
I love that Liam is still picking his husbands characters, even after all these years. Thats true love right there.
why does everyone have exceptionally pretty nails this session??? literally - Laura, Marisha, Matt they're SO PRETTY!
I mean, at this point they might as wel have invested in skilled make-up artists? Or some bonding nailcare?
Honestly i think red isn't Matt's color, the black was more fitting with his overall style. But at the end Matt has to like it and it is his choice alone.
@@adamryan977i think its just the really bright colours that dont fully suit him, i loved when he had purple and blue nails
I love seeing comments positive about Matt getting more comfortable with himself. Part of me has been paying attention to his clothing and style choices since his Between the Sheets talking about his body dysmorphia.
Agreed, and Matt’s choice is clearly magnetic polish. Looks nifty.
Love the close up camera changes focusing on people when they are talking, seems more dynamic but also easier to block out the background chatter
I hope they start doing this in the C3 show
Aw, one of my favorite things to do is read the lips of the players when they aren’t the focus. Or see them fight over food getting stolen. And stuff… 💔
The background chatter is half the fun 😢
No way, some of the most memorable stuff is from CR is all the different reactions and background stuff that happens that isnt part of the story.
Congratulations on still having that after many years, and thank you a lot for sharing it with us
i have to say that 1 single line can help a player feel at ease with a vision of their "play", it's just an example, but when Ashley is stating the 2 Foundations for sorcerer ( 9:45 ), the sentence "You can channel this element into unique, harmless effects" is one of the more impactful, for me, in the roleplay and immersion with the world and i'm in love.
i really like the armor system. taking gambles and deciding when you want to cut down on things really makes it feel like a game instead of just "did it hit or not"
really cool overall from the characters, ancestries, the risk reward systems with armor and stress. it really mskes you think about how you want to play. congrats guys!
Me this morning: I'm dying to see Travis play a mage.
Travis: I gotchu fam.
When The Seep happened, he couldn't pull Wango out in time? SAMUEL what the hell is your brain
Scanlin poked his head out from the part of Sam's brain he resides in for that one.
01:41:29 Travis, this is just me in general, and I love that you so quick to the draw about it. Not saying anything bad about Bunnie's voice(which i love her trying to recreate Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors), but just being an introvert in general.
a frog being that changes its accent every day is a unique and wonderful beffiting the awesome Ashley Johnson.
Travis as a Fairie Battle Wizard? HFS I cannot wait to see this.
Every single one of these characters sounds so interesting and with so much potential for fun dynamics between them, I hope we get to see them in more than just one one-shot. Pretty excited for tonight's live.
The sitting order already looks chaotic, I love it
The higher production value on this video makes the viewing experience much more engaging, would love to see this more often!
More Session Zeros please!
Saaaaame
39:16 love Marisha encouraging Laura's fun loose fungi character personality lol
49:25 sam looked like he was possessed for a second 😂
Marisha felt right at home 😅😂
The Seep can do that to you...
@@TheKrunchyI love how even though no one, not even Sam, knows what “the seep” actually is, it’s become a major part of the lore now.
so I will readily admit, I absolutely love Exandria and the idea of campaign 4 using Daggerheart kinda made me worry that we wouldn't be seeing much of it again, but after this, I feel a lot better, even though leaving Exandria behind is still a possibility
I think we'll still going to be in Exandria, we're just moving past WoTC
@@macasmack if I'm honest that's my ideal option
Taliesin - Blade & Bone
Sam - Blade & Valor
Liam - Splendor & Valor
Travis - Codex & Splendor
Marisha - Codex & Grace
Laura - Grace & Midnight
Ashley - Arcana & Midnight
Edit: I'm now realizing they might have chosen their classes beforehand and then sat across the table based on that..
It’s still a cool detail to point out
28:47 the music has hit a nostalgic level and I may have gotten a bit teary eyed.
I feel this comment in m bones.
The feels. 😢
I miss the art reels.
I absolutely adore the seemingly universal rule of: “I’m making a Fawn and I’m making them sexy.”
Fearne was the same. My Eloquence Bard for a Theros campaign was the same. Now, so is Bunnie.
I mean if you know anything about their mythological inspirations, fauns being hot isn’t that far off the mark.
I appreciate the Witcher 3 and Elder Scrolls music in the background look
Between new fresh system and all of them being so relaxed and happy, it feels like it's 2017 again, and I love it so much.
Session 0, building the party is very valuable content. I am happy you keep making these also for the Candela Obscure series.
Laura and Ashley being unable to choose between the frog person and the mushroom person was so me
Cosplays are gonna go hard with these descriptions
Wonder if we will get char art in one shot ?
@@karencollins7076 I hope so
I cannot state this in any stronger terms, the card art for Ribbets is the greatest thing Ive ever seen
Really cool of them to show this zero episode. Love seeing how they work through making characters.
The emotions playing over Taliesin's face as Matt first describes the game.
A 2 hour long video Session 0 for character creation?? Good thing I don't work for another 4 hours! It's a Daggerheart Day motherload!!
Часовые пояса - потрясающи!
Как хорошо, что у меня выходной утром
It’s ‘motherlode’. Just sayin’.
Man.... putting the Morrowind music in background...this makes me feel at home. I love it.
“Team shopping!”
“I will mark two stress to switch seats with someone.”
I understand this exchange.😂
It kept escalating.
That is a great phrase!
I love the zoom-ins on the players! Wonderful choice
THE CLASSIC CAMPAIGN 1/EARLY CAMPAIGN 2 BACKGROIUND MUSIC IS BACK!!!!!!
Is some of it the Skyrim music? Sounds very similar.
@@davidjennings2179 Yes I think so, and some from Pillars of Eternity
The amount of nostalgia I get every time I hear Twin Elms is illegal
@@ElimusTaken OMG yes
The three theatre kids are sitting together at the top table. This is going to be good.
It is the freedom of making a throwaway character purely for fun. You can really go to town
