I love that they're making Bertrand, and there is a pile of Werther's sitting next to Travis's tankard
Werther's originals are great!
I love that the character art for the Warrior cards looks like Fjord 😏
@@aqacefan And the Daemon looks like a certain lilac coloured pirate.
I guess the feud is over🤣🤣
I love that they do the little things like that.
Bertrand is just Travis in like 20-30yrs, he’s just building his future self.. 😂
Just like Fjord is him now..
and Grog is him during football season..
When will he be Chetney... the phase after Bertrand?
@@michelheinrich9379 Bertrand is his public grandpa persona. Chetney/Chutney is his true grandpa self
Jester is Laura when they met.
Vex is Laura after they got married.
@@happyslapsgiving5421 this is true, though Jester and Vex are in a constant battle for control in Laura now.. 😂
@@michelheinrich9379 Chetney is Travis after he finally learns the secret of immortality from the resident eldritch being, Taliesin
I love that Travis is the Daggerheart guinea pig - we're learning the game right along with him!
he is always the guinea pig, we love him for it
So are the developers 😅
"The Warrior sits between Blade and Bone." I see why they invited Travis and not Laura to this
XD
I love that Travis’ title is “Daggerheart Guinea Pig”, not anything CRAZY like CEO of a company. 😂
Creative Exploitation Object
nice
Props to the editors for the visual aids. The cards really help make this complex game system feel more fun and intuitive.
Bertrand being slyborne but living his live pretending to be a noble is EXTREMELY in character.
"I just want him to clank around like an old bastard" I love how Travis describes things
Is he calling Pike an old bastard?
@@faranior he calls Bertrand an old bastard
@@arx5638 But Bertrand didn't "clank around". He didn't use heavy armour as far as I can remember.
@@faranior In this one he dresses him up to do that
Even this short peek is a lot of intrigue into the systems of Daggerheart. I like the Heritage system and the way damage is handled overall
The damage is brilliant, fun dice rolling without lots of math, very very smart
@@NerfThisBoardGames Minimum math, maximum shiny rock rolling, perfect system
I love that idea of being able to replace abilities whenever you want at a cost. Really alieviates that stress of "ARGH I DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN" when selecting spells etc. while preserving the tension
Also I need fanart of Cosmonaut Bertrand stat
That's why I love the "Flash Recall" feat from the TD:CSR 5e book. Great for my druid character when he suddenly needs to speak to plants or send an animal messenger.
There's some really neat design decisions here, but one of my favourites is making a rapier's base stat Presence. Means martial classes have more reason to bump that stat and means you can have some fun with making the charming, Robin Hood-esque warrior of your dreams. As a wider point, I'm just a fan of using stats from across the board to power the weapon mechanics in general!
I agree, it's great that there are weapons for every stat; and many of the stats have options for both a normal and magical/spellcaster weapon.
yeah except that in practice you really don't want to do that with martial classes. DnD4 tried to do that (classes relying on two main abilities) but it didn't work. What will happen is that martial classes simply won't use rapiers at all. In the end, every character in this kind of game is defined by one main offensive ability, and sometimes one main secondary/defensive ability. You don't build a martial character with points that are a bit everywhere just so they can use rapiers.
It's cool that the CEO could take time out of his schedule to do a PR video
I can’t blame anyone who makes a Ribbet. I’m sat here sculpting mine already, because I want it next to me at the table.
If Sam doesn't make a Ribbet I will die of shock.
MINOR, MAJOR, and Severe, Brilliant way to do damage and let people roll big number dice, nicely done
I can just imagine someone trying to do a build where they have no evasion and just tanks any incoming damage.
@@connorgrynol9021 I feel like meat shield will be very much a common pick.
Edit: added a P.s. section
It's just Fate Core with HP, which I like, but not as original as everyone thinks.
P.s. not the entire system just damage, experiences (a lot like Fate's traits), and the live but at a cost option upon death.
I like that you can really pick and feel the difference between the two. The unstoppable tank who takes blows but shrugs them off versus the quick and nimble fighter who deftly evades every attack. In some other systems both of those just mean “AC”, but here there’s a distinct difference and you can build both of them.
Yes! SO pumped for the pile of Werther's Originals next to Travis there!
Oh, and Daggerheart, obviously.
We came for the Werther's, we stayed for the Daggerheart.
The stress number on the top of the cards is a REALLY good idea. Thanks for the video y'all. Hope to try the game soon
Power gamers approve.
I actually think full plate armor for Bertrand is great. Lol after the betrayal of Sandy, he goes a little overboard in protecting himself. 😂
No amount of steel will protect your heart.
I was interested before, but the second you showed the page of Magic-user weapons I was locked in. I LOVE THE CONCEPT of magic users not being stuck just using quarterstaff or their bare hands.
I love the domains because it essentially allows you to make your own classes considering each class is a mix of 2 domains. So you can adjust your class depending on what you want to play.
Have you ever played Fabula ultima? It’s got one of my favourite class systems. It’s essentially jobs from the final fantasy tactics games. You have a max level of 50 but you can pull levels from any class but each class only maxes at 10 so if you have a fully end game character they would be a mix of a minimum of 5 classes.
Thats how divinity’s class system works as well
Bit late but I'll throw out old mmo Rift as although I never got that into it I ALWAYS adored how there were a few classes (I think just four with like mage, warrior, healer, rogue?) but each class had like 10-12 subclasses and you build your version of lets say a mage by combining three different subclasses (for mage I remember it was basically different magic types like frost, chronomancy, even some nature magic stuff).@@crashpeil9890
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Experiences mechanic. When leveling up, it can turn in-game moments into actual character stats. Such a potential for story to affect mechanics, which is extremely my jam. So excited to play!!
I love how stormlighty this feels. From the 10 classes with 10 domains split between them to Travis calling his old group the heralds who betrayed him
I was thinking the same thing!!!
Though there is a lot of space for new classes with opposing domains, like shadow/protection for something like a bodyguard, or arcane/bone for the classic hyper agile mage
@@xandermcdonald8543taking a page from MTG's book having "ally" and "enemy" 2 and 3 colour combinations. It opens up a lot of creative room, while still maintaining a relatively restrictive "color identity". For example 2 wildly different colors, Green being the domain of life & nature and Black being the domain of undeath, can work together fantastically to create a theme of fungal spores infecting & raising the dead
I love the physical stat split, Dex is always a strong stat in 5e
Im just imagining that Bertrands calendar is just different pictures of Lieve'tel for each month, with December being a picture of Bertrand and Lieve'tel.
What I would like to see in the future is a little deep dive into developing the math behind the system. It's always interesting to learn how game design works in the aspect of figuring out how the mechanics should be structured to get the results you are looking for.
I would love to see them do a chat with Spenser and Ronan (I believe that's the other person who helped develop Candela?) and Matt about how they created their game systems.
A lot of it is trial and error. I would say most of it, in fact.
Ohhhh. This was a shot across the bow of WoC. Showing how to translate an existing DnD character into Daggerheart. I am here for it.
I am so so excited to play!! Thank you to all of the developers!
I just realized how much i actually miss Sir. Bertrand Bell. 😔
I like how the Heritage options seem to be less combat focussed (mostly, the Orc is still very combat-centric) and instead provide minor upgrades for utility and social encounters. The Daemon being able to resist Fear and intimidate people is really appealing. Also, seems like there were two that we didn't get a clear look at: the Halfling and the Tortle. There's also likely more unless the Fawn from a previous version got scrapped
I like the DEX split. I can see areas in which armor could be pointless based on build potentially... I'm interested to see combat in action with this.
The two domain overlap reminds me of the Stormlight Archive for Radiants.
I love how Travis calls Mat Matt Mercer, whenever he is trying to have banter or wind him up lol
For the last year, we've been playing ancestry and community (highborn, forestborn, desertborn, underborn etc) for 5e backgrounds to better fit our custom worldbuilding, it's really cool to see someone else use something similar!
I love that Travis has the "How do you want to do this?" tankard and Matt has the "I would like to rage" one... 😊
I love that the ability cards are a callback to Dagen Underthorn. :)
I really appreciate Travis' trademark joy and hype while going through character creation.
It's kinda fun to soo just how many inspirations this took from the AGE system, which is fantastic btw. So really looking forward to this!
This video was the best of the daggerheart videos to drop. Travis asked some good questions (and I wish he would have asked more).
Would love to see you guys play this. I downloaded it and working on a quest! SO excited
Very hyped to play Daggerheart eventually! (if schedule allows...)
Now we need a Battle Royale of the Daggerheart versions of several existing characters from across Tal'Dorei!
This clarified the process and rules so well. I can't wait to start playing
Its great to see it differentiating ac and evasion! Love to see it. Def wanna try this!
i feel like there should be a base list of possible experiences for people who have a a hard time imagining scenarios/uses for this, but it should still be encoraged to make your own. i'm definetly thinking about some of my players and if i didn't give them at least some options on this they would definitely get stuck on it
Cant wait to see you all play this for us soon !
I am 100% down for this so far. Really interesting character creation mechanics.
Bertrand! To glory! Clank,clank,clank,clank,YEET!
I can't wait to see the test 🥳
i love the damage threshold system, it really simplifies the numbers but makes it very fluid
i adore the variety in weapon mechanics with this system! it’s so cool!
love travis just saying Bertrand in full plate - my mind jumped to Sven lead director for BG3
same here lol
Holy shit, if D&D allowed you to spend a resource to prepare an un-prepared spell, it would be incredible! I am geeking out over that situational cost for swapping your domain cards on the fly. Awesome design!
So pumped!!!
Very interesting, looking forward to see how it plays!
Here we go! :D
Can't wait for more, the game is loaded and ready i am making another campaign TONIGHT !! Seriously amazing job guys i really love the approach you have taken with this game, flexible and grounded and adds a more collaborative way of doing things between GM and players, I'm so excited to try it out :D
Imma say it, the chemistry betewen Matt And Travis is amazing! I've never NOT seen these two have fun 😂
Some of the stuff that gets simplified is great but holy moly those abilities are ridiculously wordy and complex
these videos are so helpful, thank you!
So far the mechanics seem to be an interesting blend of PbtA games, Savage Worlds, and D&D. I'm excited to dive deeper and see how it plays.
This is a great look at the inner workings of the game, something which hasn't been clear to me with the little hints I've seen so far. This looks much more interesting and detailed. I'm liking it. And I really want to see this Bertrand in full Boost mode!
This sounds interesting, could be a little confusing for new players. At least the health is more understandable then the d20 sw ttrpg
I like that there are cards for the different things. It makes building a character much more tangible.
Really looking forward to trying this at the table
I look forward to seeing this system in action
The way Travis' face lights up when Matt pulls out the weapons page 🤣🤣
All that's missing is an app for tablets that's basically a DND beyond copy but just for Daggerheart.
What an awesome game, i love it. Well made Darrington Press
I can say, without a doubt in my mind, that Bertrand Bell is the best Daggerheart character I've ever seen (he's the only Daggerheart character I've ever seen)
i love how Matt brings the infectious passion which Travis can't help but be affected by as he rebuilds Bertrand and visibly gets excited to play
you are great dudes, can't wait to play this
Ooooh can't wait to try this out.
Man I can't WAIT for this to come out!
This feels super crunchy, keen to see how it plays
Character creation is so fun and unique. The level up system being so customizable even between the same class feels more like a video game and I love it.
waiting for the all ribbet oneshot
This is cool guys! Thanks for sharing this 🙌
I imagine full-plate open-helm Bertrand looking like Swen Vincke at the game awards
The physical stats are amazingly named and relatable
I think it sounds amazing. Easy to understand and Bert sounded well built as how he was in game.
Seems very intriguing. Definitely want some DM guide
The free materials is like half GM advice. They are leaning super heavy into that.
this looks like it's gonna be so fun!!!
Really hoping someone comes out with a thorough list of ideas for starting experiences, whether it's RAW or homebrew, because there are so many directions players can go with this mechanic it can be hard to narrow in on one before the game has started. I'm sure that some would come up more than others. Other than that, the flexibility with this part of the system is aspirational! Reminiscent of AGON and possibly other TTRPGS as well.
This looks seriously fun and awesome. Can't wait to play it.
I would think versatile fighter would be a first level ability, so you could build your character around it? Perhaps without the secondary ability, or a less powerful version of the secondary ability.
At first this sounds really complicated but then so did 5e. I believe the main problem will be to stop using 5e lingo.
I love how Daggerheart uses "Presence" instead of charisma because many bosses aren't charismatic but they still have a really opressive presence.
Making a whole TTRPG is the ideal direction for the CR story line to go imo
Damage threshold converted to Hit Points, is a really cool way of lowering the resolution of Hit Points to keep the stakes understandable in combat, but at the same time not taking away the fun for damage dealers who love big numbers.
Travis's wheeze laughs and lil giggles make my day xD
I love Shaun Milmore already
Wow, WOW. I am in love with this game ❤fantastic job on every step of the creative process.
I already backed the new MCDM RPG but now I think I will buy this when it is released, and join open beta right now. You’ve surpassed my expectations 🎉
Love everything about this
Wow! Daggerheart looks amazing 😍 Best character creation system I have seen in a TTRPG...
Cosmonaut Bertrand sounds like a movie that I would absolutely Go to the Cinema on premiere to enjoy, thanks for this introductions to character building and the level up!
This is amazing! I am curious if it would be possible to get chapters in the video, when I come back and try and reference the video it'd be nice to be able to click to whatever section I'm looking for.
so, how many copies of each card will there be? If two people want the same thing, will there be duplicates?
Also, will the cards be sized to go in standard card saver pages? Like baseball cards or Magic cards?
this looks fun, so far.
This looks very user friendly! Excited to see more about combat!
24:24 I LOVE that there are RP-related features. What a great way to encourage healthy RP at a table.
PLEASE run a combat, i'd love to see one.
They are streaming a live ganme tonight
This Game is going to be AWESOME!
"Im not saying this is Canon" 🤝 "Dont fckin @ me"
Cast of Critical Role being too tried of internet bs
We love that for them
Looks fun! I like that "experiences" are similar to FATE's aspects. Can't wait to try it out!
