      Kurt Armbruster That's from Respighi's "Pini di Roma" the melody from the last (4th) movement.

      There was a project in 3 volumes. Synaulia, music of ancient rome. Though no notations exist, the group reconstructed the instruments and along with experts in the field created the most plausable rendition of what the Roman would have listened to. It's on youtube. Enjoy!

    As a child, I enjoyed the Asterix stories, and some of these showed Roman buccina players. When I was little, I thought that a Buccaneer was a buccina player.

      Depends on the skill of the player, same as trumpet or any other brass instrument. C-G-C-E-G-B flat-C would be just about all a high schooler could play, but advanced players can play higher. Might even be able to play a pedal C on those, like you can on flugelhorn.

      AVE · LATINA · POPVLVS

      These only play natural harmonics, so some notes aren't in tune with the modern Western scale.
