wonderful hack, I was looking into saddle mattresses and was deterred by the price. encountered your video yesterday and stopped at home depot on my way to the barn. my saddle now sits comfortably on a padded rack! this legit took seconds and cost almost nothing. THANK YOU!
How would you store a saddle that you don’t currently use but might again in the future (after a check by a saddle fitter of course). Is it okay to put it on the (dry and clean!) floor with the front, cantle up, or should I try and get something rack-like I can put it on?
If it is being stored for any length of time I would store it on a decent saddle rack. Preferably something shaped like an upside down V shape. To support the panels without denting them. Or a pole shaped one that goes through the middle of the panels and doesn’t touch the panels :)
Yes the pole ones are better as they don’t touch the panels. Have fun with the tack room upgrade! You can get some lovely wooden pole ones that look old fashioned. I think Stubbs make them x
They aren't quite supportive enough - it'd take several of them to give you the same support. Almost all the saddles that I see with dents in them come from saddles with saddle cloths under them.

Brilliant idea, I’m off to buy some x
I use a Saddle Mattress. Highly recommend them--they come in two different shapes for different types of saddle racks. Well made.
Oh what a good idea. Thanks poppy 👍
Super cheap and SUCH a difference in saddles, so it's defo worth it!
Good tack hack for a saddle rack!👍🏻
I keep my saddle on the headrest of my passenger seat, its only a Bates 16.5, so a little one. Will it hurt it? X
My rack is basically a wood post(so its super thick) should I just use a saddle pad?
Hi I have a Harry dabbs future jump saddle are these adjustable also what’s the worth of it?

Are the pole saddle racks better? I do love this though I will do but in the process of upgrading my tack room so would rather get it right. Xx

What if you have a saddle pad or halfpad in between? That's what I do

Great hack, I used pool noodles on my western saddle racks
