Don’t know the album or the song, but this just goes to show the variety of music these guys wrote. So different from the earlier stuff. Fantastic stick work Myke, and the fill at 03:27 was superb! 👏👏👏👍🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
You gotta get caught up, Dean! Counterparts was (in my humble yet always correct opinion) Rush's last solid album. The drum sound is one of Neil's best, and the songs really have some grit to them (compared to our mutual favourite-era of Power Windows/Hold Your Fire). Definitely give Counterparts a listen. You might dig it. It's also the album that introduced me to Rush (the single "Stick it Out" was the first Rush song I recall actually listening to on the radio when I was a young'un)
@MykeLewisMusic I will. These guys and DT have been my musical inspiration and I must confess since Mangini’s ejection, I am over them now. I was offered a free ticket to see MP’s “debut” in London in October, and politely declined. I’m done. Where all this is going, is that, coincidentally, I was only thinking earlier today about giving Rush’s later catalog another go, together of course with earlier stuff. I will probably still work on MM era songs, but I’m done with DT otherwise, and will be spending more time on stuff like this. Keep em coming Myke. 🤘🤘
I completely agree about DT. When you brand yourself as the forefront of "prog metal" you don't get to take a 20 year step backward just for a blatant cash grab. I mean, does Derek Sherinian get to come back? Does Kevin Moore? I was severely disappointed in them when they took Portnoy back. Mangini is a truly great drummer, while Portnoy is simply very good, and I'm saying that as someone who was massively influenced by Portnoy's drumming on the first DT albums. It just feels like we were taken for a ride. I dunno. Maybe I need to go outside more, lol.
@@MykeLewisMusic Totally agree. Portnoy is a great player, and he was a massive influence on me, but he can’t hold a candle to Mangini. We’re on the same page mate. Maybe I need to get out more too! 😆🤘🤘
It's so good to see you overcoming society and nailing that fill at the end.... as a member of society (I think), I feel thoroughly vanquished, and it's friggin awesome! 🤘💥🤘
CRUSHED IT! I forgot that fill at the end then when you mentioned it in the write up I was waiting for it... I almost threw my computer mouse in excitement when you nailed it lol. Hell of a cover. I see what you mean without the vocals, not that they're bad, this just feels soooo groovy without them!
Wow great enjoy your drum performance my friend, Myke. So powerful , smart and smooth drum rolling. Really enjoy with pleasure and excitement 😀. Nice 🎉. You have a new Sincere friend and Subscriber now my friend. Mutual Support is always appreciated and encouraged for ❤. Wish to meet your Sincere friendship and welcoming you to my music 🎶 channel. Glad to meet again, Myke.
👏👏👏
As always perfect , thank you for sharing your talent !
Cymbals sound so good man! I mean, everything sounds good, but those crashes are just singing!!!
I told they had to carry their weight or i'd replace them with sleigh bells. Thankfully, they listened, lol.
That fill near the end IS pretty bad ass. I had to go do it after watching this. I can do it at 1/256th speed.
1/256th still counts!!!
@MykeLewisMusic 🤣😂

Pretty Cool Fill at 3:27 Awesome job man!🤘🔥🥁🔥
Thanks, Jace, it's a tricky one.
“Take that society!” 🤣 Definitely a great fill and well done cover! I am also a fan of all of Rush’s instrumentals!
@@RichRawDawgdrums thank you, Rich! There’s still three more to do with in 2025, but I’ll get ‘em done or die trying! 😅

It was a tough fight, but in the end I think I just wanted it more than society.
