42 myself and I feel ya. Definetly somebody who's hand Id love to shake and tell how much of an influence he was growing up. Yeah, who am I kidding, Id probably go right in for a hug haha
I met Norm about 25 years ago at a restaurant. Norm was at a home show making an appearance for American Woodworker magazine and they stopped for dinner after the event. My wife and I were at dinner, and I looked up to see Norm at the salad bar. I turned to my wife and said, "oh my God that's Norm I have to go over and meet him". The demographics of the restaurant clientele being what they were, no one else knew who he was, and I had him all to myself. I walked over and after the usual "I'm a big fan" we had a nice conversation. He is the same Norm in person as he is on TV, right down to the flannel shirt. It was like talking to an old friend. I met some rock stars when I was in college, and meeting Norm ranks right up there. He is a national treasure.
Okay. I guess, I have to ask, so you are saying even at the restaurant he was wearing a flannel shirt? He must have a huge collection of flannel shirts.

So glad these shows have been brought back and so glad to see Norm back in the shop. Now at the age of 55 I’ve been reveling in the nostalgia of my youth! It is happy and yet poignant at the same time. Those were some great years….. Thank you Norm for your craftsmanship and thank you Russell for your vision, continued good health to you both.

Thanks to the both of you. One of the best days of my career was spent at the workshop back in December 1999. Norm taught me how to use a router that day. I still have the cap.
Norm, I know you don’t move as well as you used to and it’s probably getting hard to do a lot of work but we’d all watch you doing nothing but talking if that’s what it took. You’ve been a major inspiration and influence on many of us. If you could find a way to be in the shop again, even with a younger helper doing the work, we’re all 100% in.
Still love the show after all these years. I shook Norms hand and got a photograph with him when he signed one of his books for me in Exeter, England at a woodworking show. I also have his signed photo in my little workshop. I learnt so much from Norm watching the series and so glad it’s now on UA-cam. Many thanks guys.
Growing up in the 90's Norm Abram was about the only role model I had at the time. I can remember back to the start of 9th grade shop class talking about champher's, rabbits, dado's and ripping on the radial arm saw with my shop teacher and he asked where I learned all of this? I said New Yankee Workshop., he said, I'm gonna have to keep my eye on you. Years later I studied wooden boat building and am now a roofing contractor and proud of it. Thanks Norm!
This Old House, New Yankee Workshop, Bob Villa, Norm, Russ were the pioneers that made HGTV, DIY, and all the other home improvement shows possible. So happy to see you again Norm thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with us over the years. God bless
So great to see Norm again. TNYW and TOH were balm for my soul, a constant reminder that there still is a place in our world for craftsmanship and thoughtful, careful work.
Norm! Thanks for so many happy memories. I was a young dad when NYWS was starting and would watch episodes with my infant daughter and dream about the day I might own some tools like Norm so I could make furniture for family and friends. Nowadays, I just need the time. Would love to see Norm revisit more of his older projects.
i’m 45 and norm has meant so much to me growing up. i had never really gotten into woodworking until my late 30s, but watching the new yankee workshop is undoubtedly one of my all-time favorite shows growing up. it was just so fascinating to watch norm work his magic!
I miss Saturday mornings watching the Ne Yankee Workshop. Norm you were so inspirational. I am a much better woodworker, thanks to you. Thank you! Hope to see you back in the workshop again!!!😊
My Saturday morning routine for many years when my kids were young was to get some coffee and watch NYW on PBS. I built a shop using plans from the show, and bought every tool that Norm used on the show. This weekend my grown son came back to town for Thanksgiving and we watched several episodes. He's now hooked, and i hope he gets the same amount of enjoyment from watching these as i did. Thank you Norm for inspiring a whole new generation. You're the GOAT!
I built my shop in 1990 based on the tools Norm showed me how to use better. I built several of the projects in two of Norm’s New Yankee Workshop books and I’m happy to say that they are still serving my family today. Thank you Norm for all your knowledge you shared over all those years. You have made so many of us better woodworkers. Got the tools, got the time. 🙂 Take care.
Retired wood shop teacher and architectural technologist here. I watched this old house and new yankee workshop religiously. Norm was and is the closest thing I have to a mentor/idol. He inspired me to peruse my dream of being a teacher and a better woodworker!
I was a boy when is started watching Norm on PBS…. He inspired my love of building and tools. I dreamed often of having his workshop and tools. Great to see you again and Norm, thank from the bottom of my heart for all the inspiration. May He keep and protect you Sir!
I remember watching Norm and Bob on This Old House back when I was 6. When I found out that Norm had left This Old House, I was heart broken. But that all went away when I realized he was on the New Yankee Workshop! Thank you all for making such an amazing show over all these years and still going strong!
What a beautiful sight. I am 65 and it was Norm that got me interested in woodworking. Most of my tools are from that era, mainly Delta and Porter Cables. Thanks for creating the attraction to woodworking for millions like me!
Nice to see you both. My 13 year old grandson has woodshop in school this year. Hopefully, one day, we'll find a project on The New Yankee Workshop he can do together.
Great age to get him out in the shop and build something. No matter how big or small. The only project I ever accomplished in woodshop in junior high school was a jewelry box. Took me all year to get it done because I spent most of my time helping classmates with their projects LOL. I still have the jewelry box because I never got married, and never had any kids to give it to, so it just sits in a cupboard in the laundry room gathering dust. I spent a lot of time out in the shop with my grandfather, learned a lot, and all the tools, the shop, the house, property, are now mine....lost my mom about 5 years ago at 59, grandpa will be 94 this year, and I'll be 41. I've got the tools to build stuff, just not the time, and patience.
Thank you, RUSSEL MORASH for doing your part to help tame and save mankind with your visionary gift to help us be better than we are. As a true icon, leader and a man's man, your legacy cannot be undone.
Oh My Word, how wonderful it is to see you Norm. I can say, that my entire workshop was built with your help. My cupboards are from your plans. I think it was intended for a garage cabinets or something like that. I've built so many of your project from the plans you sell. Hints and procedures working with wood. I so looked forward to your shows. I want to thank you for all the knowledge you shared and made me the crasftsman I am today. Wow
My son and I would sit down every week and watch the show. He is now 34 and still talks to me about it. Wonderful father and son memories thanks to you and the show. Thank you.
Great to see Norm back in the shop. Watching The New Yankee Workshop on TV was instrumental for me in starting my woodworking journey all those years ago.
Wow! Great to see all of the old NYW episodes making their way onto UA-cam. This means I don’t have to rely on my library of old poor quality VHS tapes that I would record EVERY Saturday morning. And it’s great to see Norm making a visit back to the shop. I credit your show and Norm to rekindling my interest in woodworking.
I remember watching The New Yankee Workshop when I was a kid in the 90’s with my dad. I loved spending that time with him on the weekends learning a lot of useful skills. I’m in my late 30’s now and I’m so glad I found this on UA-cam so I can relive those memories and make new ones with my boys!
Norm, I grew up watching This Old House and the New Yankee Workshop. The methods, processes and tools that I watched you use over the years enabled me to complete many successful home remodeling and construction projects that I otherwise would have had no idea how to do. Thanks so much for making these videos available again as I hope to introduce my grandchildren to them. - Brian
I can't express my joy enough seeing these old episodes. It is also a great pleasure to see the shop is just as it was before. Thank you for all the amazing memories.
I loved the NYW. Every Saturday morning at 10 I would start my VCR and tape it as I watched. I don't have the tapes anymore, but I still have my memories of Norm and his projects. I actually met Norm in Dayton, OH at Sinclair Community College when he was speaking. One of the best days of my young life. Found out that he was just a regular guy that loved woodworking. Norm, though you no longer do tv your fans still love you and would love to see you again. Hope all is well and your happy in your life. A life long fan, Ron
I used to watch this show as a young man growing up in the early 2000's with my father and grandfather. It has been such a joy to start watching these wood working projects again. Brings back memories of good times we had in the shop trying them out ourselves. My wife and I recently purchased our first home. I am so excited to get all my tools out of storage and use them the way my father and grandfather used to use them. Thank you so much for posting these on you tube and warming our hearts and shops with good memories and projects. -Ethan

I LOVE that you have decided to upload the entire catalog. My 2yo son and I started at the beginning a few days ago and I as we watch I tell him about how I watched them as an 8yo on PBS (Channel 9 in STL) when the were new episodes back to back with This Old House back in the day, 1989. Norm left such an impression on the community. Thanks guys!! 😊🥹
Norm, I watched every one of your shows when they were originally aired and ordered quite a few of your plans. Your encouragement got me into furniture building, for fun, not for profit. I am 75 yrs old now and spend at least four hours a day in my workshop enjoying the hobby that I love so much.
One of the best things ever to air on PBS. I'm so glad that you are putting the episodes online, and that the plans are available for a new generation of woodworkers to build. And Russ, are you nuts?! OF COURSE Norm can use the tools! 🤣
So long as he reads, understands, and follows all the safety rules that comes with the tools Knowing how to use the tools properly will greatly reduce the risk of personal injury And remember this. There is no more important safety rule than to where safety glasses.
Norm, I have been a fan since the 80’s watching on Saturdays with my grandfather, I am now in my 40’s, and he has been gone for 24 years, but nothing brings him closer in my heart than watching NYW and then getting out in my own woodshop. Thank you for what you have done for woodworking
It is so great to see Norm and the old shop! I can remember watching the show as a kid and marveling at how well Norm was able to explain how to do woodworking 🙂

Grew up watching Norm. Honored to see him in the shop again. Blessings
Perfectly put Richard! Same here!
Life is short and no one gets out alive. I'm glad I was around to see such a wonderful craftsman such as Norm. Great to see him talking shop.
So great seeing Norm back in the shop. Also great being able to watch the shows here again. Years pass but quality and craftsmanship never fade.
I grew up in woodworking watching Norm! What a blessing and a treat to see Norm again, if even for just a few minutes!
I miss Saturday mornings watching the Ne Yankee Workshop. Norm you were so inspirational. I am a much better woodworker, thanks to you. Thank you! Hope to see you back in the workshop again!!!😊
Same here the new yankee workshop, this old house and the woodright shop back to back to back
My Saturday morning routine for many years when my kids were young was to get some coffee and watch NYW on PBS.
It good to see Norm back in the shop. Enjoy seeing the old program again. A hart felt thanks.
"Woodworking is a fun thing to do." Simple and sweet - Thanks Norm for all the years of work.
My life has finally come full circle and I am once again watching Norm on my weekend mornings
Nice to see you both. My 13 year old grandson has woodshop in school this year. Hopefully, one day, we'll find a project on The New Yankee Workshop he can do together.
Do it Drew! It will give your grandson many years of fond memories shared with Grandpa!
This is just what I needed today. Great to see Norm back in the shop!
Indeed, just seen this and it made my day
Oh My Word, how wonderful it is to see you Norm.
Wow
Please Norm... Please come back and make small project videos on youtube ! You have been very missed!!
Please keep it coming, and thank you for all the years of great episodes. I remember them as clear as day.
- Brian
Legends, blessed to have watched all these years.
What a wonderful unexpected surprise. It's like seeing a long-time friend after a long absence. It brings joy to your heart.
Glad to see you both still getting after it! Many thanks!
-Ethan
Norm looks well. So glad to see him again. I'm glad to have found this channel. Thank you for bringing them back.
I am so grateful that the measured drawrings and materials list are still available for purchase. The legacy of NYW lives on! Thank you Russ and Norm for bringing NYW to the next generation!
Man I miss this show! I was a woodworker before, but this show inspired me to push the envelope. Much thanks to both of you fine gentlemen!
I owe it to Norm for getting me interested in woodworking! Never missed an episode of The New Yankee Workshop! Thank you Norm for all your inspiration! Good to see you again!
Me too. I guess it beats sitting around on my butt watching the boob tube.
We all owe Norm so much. Such a great video, love seeing him back in the shop.
I remember watching Norm with my father every Sunday morning. Either in the workshop or on this old house. I miss those days.
One of the best things ever to air on PBS. I'm so glad that you are putting the episodes online, and that the plans are available for a new generation of woodworkers to build. And Russ, are you nuts?! OF COURSE Norm can use the tools! 🤣
As long as he follows the safety instructions. And wears his safety glasses. 😂
@@David_K_Dickson LOL!
So long as he reads, understands, and follows all the safety rules that comes with the tools
Knowing how to use the tools properly will greatly reduce the risk of personal injury
And remember this.
Enjoy the New Yankee Workshop? I started watching Norm when he first started. So glad your on UTube. It's so good to see you again.
Truly great to see Norm again; and looking well too. It would be fantastic to have him make something in a future episode!
I think that he's beginning re-doing that Adirondack as he had a new piece of cedar on a template in that last scene with him and Russ.
Been watching you guys since the beginning on PBS, I can't thank you enough for the lessons, and the entertainment. I've become quite the craftsman, and taught those skills to my adult son, who ALSO loves your work! Your a hell of a guy Norm! You keep rockin, and we'll always be grateful..
Norm, you look great! It's so nice to see you on this show again! I learned woodworking from you starting 23 years ago, and I'm still going strong too, like you!
Awe, thanks guys, and thank you! It’s so good to see you again Norm! I’ve never met you, but I feel like you’re a part of my family. I grew up in Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island off the coast of Maine. Now I live in Oklahoma, (I met a girl in the Navy, and followed her down South back in 1988 after my discharge). Anyways, I gotta run, but I have to say it again…”It’s so good to see you again Norm.” You take care, and God Bless.
I can’t begin to tell you how much I am enjoying these videos! I originally watched them as a high school student and now my own high school aged children are watching me watch them all over again 👍🏻🔨
I'm 51 now, and this channel brings back so many GREAT memories of woodworking in my younger years! From taking notes, to buildings jigs, Norm was and still is inspiring to me... these new videos from Russ have released a new affection to me so much that i'm building a new woodworking shop.
Great to see Norm again. I have his New Yankee Workshop book that he signed in 1990. He wrote : "Happy Woodworking, Norm Abram"
I've made several of his pieces based on his designs including two Chippendale mirrors, Pencil Post bed, a garden bend, and a nightstand. All were a joy to build.
Great to see Norm again. Watched many hours of TOH and NYW over and over . I did buy a couple of the projects . Really nice plans . I learned most of my skills from those shows . Put together a nice hobbyist shop in the garage. Get build projects for the grandkids . I think we were all lucky to have those shows . Miss them old days. THANKS .
So glad to see this. I've built so many of these projects over the years and really miss these shows. My wife and I have been binge watching as soon as we saw this was available.
Thank you Norm for all the tips and tricks you taught over the years. Watching you work was always a pleasure!
I grew up watching TNYW. Norm has always shown a passion for fine craftsmanship and has such an easy going demeanor to his teaching style. Truly a great craftsman and a wonderful show that has stood the test of time.
Thanks Norm for years...literally decades...of wonderful woodworking ideas, techniques, and memories.
And as always, wear your safety glasses.
