At 34 mm it was made to be worn by a man. When this model came out women were wearing watches between 15 and 20 mm.
In the 60s men's watches ranged in size from about 30 mm to 36 mm. By the end of the 1970s 36 mm was the predominant men's watch size and mos women wore watches of about 25 mm. So this was still much bigger than the average woman's watch. Nowadays watches made for women are as big as 36 mm and men's watches go to about 44 mm. It's now hard to sell watches under 38 or 40 mm to men because they fear that people will question their masculinity.
