So much Power, pain and truth in only one track. Its unbelivable, this guys had no barriers, mental or technical. Excellent players, thats what its all about-playing yourself. Thank You Albert and Pharoah 🙏
Albert et al live!
What an eclectic page! Who'd a thunk I would hear Pharaoh here, love it.His scream is so appropriate for our current calamity.
Especially now
can you dig it!!
Thanks Paintpot for posting this excellent live recording.
Would been nice if Sonny Sharrock would have been available for this gig...
+Basheer Muhammad , that would have been something! Or Sun Ra, but maybe that would be a bit too much visionary talent on one stage.
thanks...
Il grande Albert
there are many stories in that soundscape
increible !!!
fantástico !!!
I was lucky to see/hear Sonny Sharrock just before he passed away - a powerful and emotional performance.
Was Sonny Sharrock in this ensemble?
Sonny was on "Tauhid" by Pharoah Sanders, which featured these compositions.
Thanks for getting back to me with the information!
Superb!
I should have bought that box set.
!!!!!!!!!!
Where did you find this record? I'm a big fan of Ayler, but I never heard it before. It's fantastic!
it's on the big 'holy ghost' box set that came out from revenant a few years ago
the song 'balance', also by sanders, actually precedes 'venus' - it also appears on sanders' 'izipho zam', from 1969
I didn't hear "Noah". A couple times I thought that Frank Lowe might be in the group but his name came up because you mentioned Noah who I really didn't hear . I am ging to download it and listen some more.
@robertmbruno If there was a third tenor player it may have been Frank Wright. The alto player is not Noah Howard, I think, rather Charles Tyler, who is from Cleveland, like Ayler. Chris Capers is from Sun Ra's Ark, like Roger Blank.
@@GeoCoppens my guess was always Arthur Jones on alto, but it's tough to confirm.
@@cliffordallen4245 Altoists could have been Marion Brown, Jimmy Vass and Carlos Ward. The second tenor saxophonist may be Bob Ralston or Marvin Blackman. Both played with drummer Rashied Ali.
this would be great music to hunt mastodons to
or as a time traveler watching mass extinction asteroid crashes..
The unknown tenor saxophonist (my best guess) is John Gilmore. He is doing what I've seen and heard him do twice in Sun Ra's Arkestra in my country in 1970. The unknown alto saxophonist is probably Carlos Ward. Certainly not Noah Howard.
I think that Albert Ayler was not present here. I know his sound and playing very well and I did not hear him!
I agree with the comment that it was Carlos Ward and also that Ayler was not present......one thing is for sure.......Pharoah is WAY UP IN THE HOUSE !!
Listen at 12:25 and you'll hear Ayler.
@@MiqelDotCom Certainly not Albert Ayler; more like John Gilmore whom I have heard doing this on two occasions in 1970 in my country when he was in Sun Ra's Archestra!!!
@@GeoCoppens That's awesome you saw them in the 70s. I've been listening to Gilmore for 30 years and to my ears this isn't him.
Note that there are 3 different voices on tenor here, so in your viewpoint there is still another unidentified sax if you feel Ayler = Gillmore.
@@MiqelDotCom I heard Ayler's quartet live November 1964! I have his quartet on my private label from 1964 studio.
Thank you. This is a source that I might not have been able to have been blessed with if you didn’t post it here. I am grateful! I’m not sure if Albert Ayler even played in there to tell you the truth. There was times where I thought so but then I’m not sure. Halfway through I thought what does it really matter?? Hahah I’m grateful to be alive to hear this music! I’m curious if this recording was related at all to Coltrane’s funeral? If I’m accurate only Ornette Coleman and Albert Ayler were recorded to be playing that.
there's definitely 2 saxes at 10:00. And, you can clearly distinguish between Ayler & Pharoah.
@@km6206 Ayler after 12:00 for sure..
Unknown sax is Coltrane's ghost or he didn't die in summer of Love when the English wave annihilated free music.
It sounds Eastern.... like the Nile River.....
Where to get this great song ?
