Mancuso is indeed a virtuoso, unlike most of the UA-cam shredders, he stands out because he is very technical but plays with some amazing taste, phrasing, timing and feel. He also fused Jazz, Country and Rock effortlessly. Sounds like Holdsworth, Eric Johnson and Jeff Beck in one. He plays with no pick like Beck but waaaay more technical. nice review!
He knows the greats and the fact he has mastered his own technique makes the music flow that much easier. He’s obviously studied music theory as well so his technique is not wasted as a parlor trick. Love this kid!;)
Remember, he has also classical basic, infact his technique and the setting of his right hand, came from classical studies.
He does sound like Holdsworth, Johnson and Beck all in one... but how?

A perfect explanation of Matteo. To explain it in Layman's Terms for non players I just say THIS BOY'S ON FIRE!
This dude is not a virtuoso; he's a prodigy!
exactly.
Glad people are taking notice of this cat. He’s really gonna be the next level of guitar player in this generation.
Matteo is the first 21st century guitarist to unfold. Unbelievable.
Un grandissimo Matteo Mancuso, un rivoluzionario della chitarra!!😉👏
In the next ten years we will witness a tsunami of new players using both Mancuso's right hand techniques. There's a revolution coming started by this absolute guitar genius from Italy
We also need to recognize the role that UA-cam is playing in developing all forms of talent in the world. Some day we will look back and wonder how we managed without having endless video examples and lessons to inspire us in any field...
This Sicilian dude Matteo is Music embodied ......he can play anything in any register .....it's just so easy for him !!!!
i've been watching him already 4 a couple of months N im 48yr old playing Jazz Fusion over 1 decade (( im sicilian background too ^^^ i feel so proud N even willing to get back to settle down in the Medusa island in order to play/study with him or at least watch him playing live )) ......let me tell ya i've never see somebody like him except the great Allan Holdsworth N the terrific Pat Martino (sicilian origin as well) ......im talking here about just dexterity not Creation but i think on this point he's going to surprise us the more his maturity is going to bring forward in his evolution path //// Damn this kid is so cool N so inspiring for any fellow musicians
Luv the way he goes back to those pretty chords & doesn't just solo on the whole track
Like they say, "next level" it's coming through young geniuses like Matteo. Music is back in safe hands my friend. This from a 79yrs old devotee. :-)
😙😺🤠👋💥💯🎸
The right hand and the left are unbelievable!
Matteo is da man !
I've been following this kid for a few year now, and think it's safe to say the future of the guitar virtuoso is in good hands.
23 years old but been playing forever. His dad is an amazing guitarist in his own right
His real name is Alien Mancuso!!!
What you said about it making you happy about the future of the instrument is exactly the way I feel about this guy. His playing makes me feel good for a number of reasons, but that one not least of all. He shows the continuing possibilities, whereas some were probably thinking it had all been done already.
This guy is from another planet. Saludos desde Costa Rica 🇨🇷 🎶🎵
Thanks!
He is GREAT!
Matteo Mancuso 😮 check out 2 things, 1 his Wikipedia, 2 him performing a Charlie Parker song - Donna Lee. I’ve been playing guitar for 47 years, studied jazz ect… I’ve never seen anything like this guy.
Matteo is "the game changer" in the guitar world..👍🤘🤘🤘🤘
He also plays classical - nylon
string. That is where his technique originates.
I really appreciate your sentiments re future of music. Like!
Your Point?
No solo tiene una técnica increíble, sabe lo que toca, que no es algo común entre los guitarristas
I appreciate you all for watching. I hope you all have a great day! Please go ahead and hit that Like, Subscribe, Comment and click the notification bell!
He's unreal
Absolutely
Matteo, from Palermo, the Island of Sicily. He studied classical guitar at Palermo's Conservatory. His dad is a Classical guitar player as well. So, he was born and grew up in a house where music was a daily breakfast, lunch and supper. So young, so talented. Great things we should all expect in the coming years. Good luck Matteo and G_d bless you.
The beauty of Matteo Mancuso is not only the fact that he is a great virtuoso, but above all his character as a person who does not give you airs at all. It is difficult to find in this sector such a serious person and by the way also reserved. Most of this environment, they act like one self congratuled. They just don't know what modesty is.
For people who don t know, the song he plays is from The Aristocrats (Bad asteroid) with another virtuoso Gurthrie Govan on guitar, and also BB (Bryan Beller on bass)and the great MM (Marco Minnemann)on drums..an amazing band!
Grandissimo ....e questo è solo l'inizio
I recently found this guy and you're right he is totally sick and keeps the music growing as you said.
Amen. Anything Matteo touches is in pretty good hands lol dude is a straight up killer with that right hand technique plus fusion chops. Glad to see him discussed a bit!
2:40 - You're thinking of the legendary Bernard Edwards (BTW, the band is pronounced "Sheek" not "Chick"). He usually played normal finger style, but he did also "chuck", most notably on "Everybody Dance" -- you can hear him do it on the intro (those 16th notes!).
Bernard is the reason I play bass 😊.
Matteo has a paint brush that lets him paint in a completely unique way. It’s mesmerizing.
Amazing chops!
A Great italian guy
I am happy that you have an ear to discern the unique talent that emerges every once in a while. Blessings to you Big Swole!
The right hand technique is definitely from the classical guitar tradition. For example, when he play with his index and middle, this is called apoyando/picado. When he plays with his combination of thumb, ring, middle, & index, this called arpeggio or block chords.
Wow. Thanks for the explanation and please Subscribe if you havent.
you're right Big, that guy keeps music alive !
Spread the word about this style of music. Will make the world a better place. This a tune by Guthrie Goven a monster guitarist. I'm sure someone else might of mentioned this in the comments. Cheers!
Good to mention this is a Guthrie tune, himself an amazing guitarist. And Matteo is just superb. Can’t wait for him to tour the U.K.
WOw! You nailed it with your assessment on how he is the future. His father is a classical player and Matteo grew up playing classical but transferred it to other genres including a huge knowledge of all the theory as well! I think Steve Vai said "The future of guitar is firmly in the hands of Matteo Mancuso!
Big, I LOVE this video. You said it bro. The future of music is finally in good hands. Last time I saw something this game changing was Stanley Jordan playing Elenore Rigby on the opposite street corner I was playing at in Manhattan. I had 4 people in front of me, he had about 400!
Great video BigSwole. Love it man.
Oh Wow, thanks Joe. Yes, I love the fact that young musicians or in this case, Artist take music very serious. Thank you so much!
I agree S.J. playing that tune hit me the same way when I heard it on "the tube" as it happens I saw himm a cpl of years ago doing an hendrix tribute and it was Epic
Italia's got (unique) talent !
Have a look to "Snips" video, Mancuso's trio. Just amazing. I love this guys !
I just saw him live in LA astonishing!!! I need the link to this video! It’s on of the best I’ve seen!
Pretty sure he's covering a Guthrie Govan (The Aristocrats) track "Bad Asteroid"
Yes he is and covering Guthrie is noooo easy task. His interpretation of it is phenomenal.
@@jordanbellanca8832 Matteo easily plays any Govan song. It is at the next level ...
❤
Matteo é humilde, focado, jovem e tem a graça da Providência. Tem uma técnica apurada e única! Já está entre os grandes guitarristas de nossa época. Não sabemos se ele influenciará uma geração de músicos ou se aposentará um grande número deles!
Fiertà Italiana 🇮🇹🇮🇹 thank 's so much for yours video bye
Totally agree that music is in good hands with Matteo 👍
Un phenomene ! il arrive a mettre les bons doigts sur les bonnes notes,au bon moment et pour produire un bruit agreable a l'oreille : musique ! la concurence est priée de remballer les gaules ...
He needs a record deal and a producer to make sure he chooses music that anyone would like not just guitarists. Most talented guitarist since George benson.
This is a good comment. Back in the 70s virtuosos like Benson, Di Meola, McLaughlin etc sold shedloads of records outside just the musician's fraternity. Today I think the general public is dumbed down, they can't appreciate jazz-inspired complex music!
Agreed. Interesting though, I've seen him "copy" guys styles like Lee Ritenour and Alan Holdsworth in covers, but he's never done any GB... But hoping he doesn't end up like Alex Hutchings and just play on gigs and UA-cam with no albums!
GOAT
Line 6 and Yamaha should sponsor Matteo Mancuso. He has been loyal to them and makes their products shine brighter than ever. Matteo is to the guitar what Tiger Woods is to golf.
This guy is a top guitar player,I knew him before you put it on .Appreciate your comments
The future of Music is secure with people like Matteo, Cory Henry, Jacob Collier, Gev Delano, Antoine Boyer, Charles Berthout...check these guys out, it's worth it! And thanks for your reactions and comments!
Jesus Molina, Guy Bernfeld
Guy is a crazy talented dude.
Che meraviglia
Incredible 🎼👌
Thank you for your wonderful comments. Right on the dime.
Hope you catch a few other numbers by him, where it's not 'house sound' but a smoother mix.
what a groove
Lingua vita a Matteo Mancuso.
grande Bra'
That was smooth mate 😌😯👍
Tecnica da chitarra classica con tecnica basso. In ogni caso FENOMENO
Facile a dirsi. Ma farlo?
This dude is a monster.
Flamenco and Classical guitar players use the same technique of index and middle finger which came from the Spanish guitar not from the Bass guitar which came much later around the 1930s-50s. The pick was more influenced from the Arabic way of playing the Oud which was the forerunner of the Spanish guitar from which the electric guitar evolved. He stated that his finger technique is derived from Classical guitar.
I truly appreciate you educating me on this!
@@BigSwoleMusick You might want to check out Paco de Lucia who is considered the greatest exponent of Flamenco guitar who has played with Jazz guitarists John McLaughlin, Al Dimeola and Larry Coryell as well as Jazz pianist Chick Corea. Check out Friday night in San Francisco.
Great review! Indeed he is the best in the universe! Says me!
Grande Matteo !!!
the way it should be playing is good.........this guy is ......unbelievable
I just wanted to clear up a few things. Most guitar players that play contemporary music use a pick. Some ones that play with fingers on an electric is Jeff Beck and Derek Trucks. Matteo uses all five right hand fingers. This is not standards for electric players.
Take $1000 and this guy to a "Head Cutting" competition and I don't care if Steve Vai is there you are going to make money everytime you bet on Matteo Mancuso!
You should review Matteo's video, "The Chicken", with his trio... Sick...
I like ya cut, G.
Really like your Comments das I will follow you
He’s like Paco De Lucia meets Eric Johnson and Guthrie Govan. Not to rip on the greats I just mentioned but I love Matteos tone and attack/approach to his vibrato, harnessing the full spectrum of the instrument. I prefer the distorted tone just cuz I’m an 80’s 90’s kid haha, like one of my favorite things about Allan Holdsworth is his tone was always from a distortion stand point, trying to smooth it out and control it from its chaotic nature. It’s an approach I try to do in my own playing, but the finger picking is on another level, alls I can say about that is I’m incredibly jealous haha
This kid is the a top of the mountain right now. He just maybe needs some original songs but I know he has a few.
In June his first album solo will be out
He plays any style, and with an amazing feel. Catch videos of him playing Eric Johnson and Brent Mason stuff. His style is actually very similar to what flamenco guitarists do.
Thanks for commenting. I'll have to check these out. Subscribe if you havent.
Bravo Matteo
5:55 - I can understand exactly what you mean, they "bring music to the forefront". Although you didn't express it like I'm doing, I'm sure you mean people like Matteo won't try to show off, they're not saying "hey, look how good I am"... in other words, they just don't allow their persona obscure what really matters, which is MUSIC. So they're driven by music itself. It's like they put themselves in the background, in service for the sake of music (and even Matteo's body language and posture reveal that), whereas many people out there have it backward and need music serving their own personalities, their need for validation. Matteo just needs to go with the flow, enter that mystical space and take us with him.
Time to go down the Jacob Collier rabbit hole and witness genius truly springing forth in our time!!!
Bernard Edwards one of the first rap songs Sugarhill Gang's 1979 single "Rapper's Delight" sampled his baseline from the song “Good Times “ he’s one of my favorite players and Chic pronounced Sheik were a supergroup for sure .
Great reaction video thanks
👊🏽👊🏽
Thanks. That was straining my brain. I thought he said he played with "Chick", so my mind said "Who played with Chick Corea named 'Edwards'?" Now it makes sense.
Hey Swole, just subscribed. We want more Matteo reactions!!! I'd say start with his cover of Havona or The Chicken. Nice channel bud, keep it up!
This is classical guitar technique,on electric guitar.
he is truly an inspiration
Agreed!!!!
@@BigSwoleMusick im a bass player normally but i can play a few others if it gets me paid
this dude is nuts

Just for the record, the tune is a Guthrie Govan tune he's covering
It is a Guthrie Govan song.
"Bad Asteroid"

I am sorry, I don't know any.
Take care.
the metrics on the guitar......he's dad is also a great guitar player.....vincenzo and matteo together.....
This young man is not of this world
I like “Big Swole”! Cool down to earth guy” I will Subscribe!
Future G.O.A.T
You would really love to meet Domi and JD Beck mate!
Matteo and Guthrie are the future
Different ages
This dude has an epic beard, no not the guitarist.
Hello All! Please Like, subscribe and comment!
Very easy to like!
check this buddy ua-cam.com/video/ST9--HWOTA8/v-deo.html
It almost sounds like allan holdsworth at times. Very good.
This is a true musician, for sure. The torch will be passed and all us 'old folks' can rest assured with someone like Matteo. The other person I would put up with him in this category is Josh Meader. This guy is another elite musician as well. Check out Josh's cover of Brecker's Skunk Funk.
Josh MeadEr, for future viewers, and agreed, Josh is super ace.
Matteo is using the finger style technique commonly employed in classical music, bossa nova, flamenco and other genres that primarily use the acoustic or ' box' guitar. He has a video on UA-cam where he explains why he prefers finger style, even on the electric guitar.
thanks for the enlightenment!
an icon at the age of 23
He does not use a pick. True. What everybody is missing is the fact that he picks the strings with all four fingers. He grew up playing Flamenco. This means he can play four times as fast as a single pick player. Al Dimeola and John McLaughlin couldn't dream of keeping up with Paco. Four picks against one. NO CONTEST!!!
Super Star
Amazing reaction and wise words!...If you can react to Matteo Mancuso plays "The Chicken".
