His father, Vincenzo Mancuso, was for years the guitarist (live/studio) of one of the most important Italian singer-songwriters, Francesco De Gregori. He grew up in the middle of Music and with Music (the serious Music, not the shit we're forced to listen to today) for which he was "marked" to become an excellent musician !!! :)
Good to know I was very self conscious of my guitar after hearing him , but I am self taught and have only been playing for 4 years or so so I won’t give up
@@Itsnotbrettreddell Man you get players who’ve had great training and after 20 years still can’t play that great. And you get people like andy james who was completely self taught and is now one of the biggest names in guitar. It’s all up to you. I know someone who could play the sweet child o mine solo after 2 years and i also know someone who’s only got to grade 5 after 10 years. Put your mind and effort to it and you’ll progress
Ha - loved the celebration when he nailed that Guthrie tapping section on the second attempt. His improvisations over the track show his obvious technical prowess. Amazing player!
No doubt. It just lacks the "listenability".. It's too all over the place to be readily enjoyable.. If it had some steady rock hooks and grooves it would be more accessible.. I'm sure many will disagree though
I find myself listening to Matteo play on daily basis & usually my jaw drops on the floor ! Purest talent I've heard in my entire life ! ... Which planet he originates from only he could tell ! Beyond sublime !!!
BRAVO!! His TONE is what made alllll of his chops more enjoyable. Being a Guthrie Govan fan, Shawn Lane, Allan Holdsworth, etc... it’s all about there tone. Dudes got a bright future ahead. Love it
A true master of the instrument. His musicality and fluency are unlike anything heard before. Yes, the references to Holdsworth and the more recent Govan are there, but Matteo brings them to a whole new level of excellence. Grandissimo.
Virtuosity in a cold climate. For me, he's the most exciting young player out there. His awareness of what he's doing, communicates directly with the audience.
Truly one of the most gifted guitarists of this era. He's the logical successor to Guthrie Govan with his stunning technique, range and feel. I expect him to be study material in music schools. Let's hope he continues to play and entertain us with his magic for decades to come!
Spain was awesome , I did not know it was one of Chick Korea's . I heard it before in one from John Mclaughlin and Paco De Lucia's concert .
It’s interesting how he plays at two angles for his right hand, one where it’s the position for playing a pick at 45 degrees (but without a pick), and another angle where it’s more like classical guitar so he can pluck the strings directly up. The first angle enables more string muting because the thumb can rest on the bottom strings, but the second angle enables a crisper sound because he is plucking straight up instead of at a diagonal angle. Both hand positions have their use.
A lot of classical players switch from the first position of the RH to the other position for different reasons. I know when I play usually my RH is mainly in the first hand position, and then switch to the more direct angle for rest strokes and/or a brighter tone. I think he does the different angle for speed and rest strokes a lot.
Matteo, simply a superior mind. Everything starts from the brain. Technique, musical creative ideas, phrasing, musicality and more are direct consequences. First of all, he has an incredible head, that's what I think. In every musical genre his performance is the top.
I admire a lot the skills of this amazing guitarist: I saw him playing the classical, jazz and prog rock music and also explaining his right hand technique, style pf playing and improvisation. He does know what he is doing. I am amazed how much talent he has, and he looks so genuine. This is the discovery of the year for me.
This is so cool to see Matteo play live and hear him speak, just awesome! He's just an amazing player and shows so much talent and skill. Pure musicality.

It is a great thing to put your own personality and stamp on something from someone else you have learnt to play. It is another level altogether when the piece you are starting with is this piece of complexity from GG. I love how MM plays it his own way and doesn't sound like a GG copyist
That amount of talent should be divided between at least 10 other mere mortal Gtr players! There are ALWAYS naturals in any given field of life and this young guy is one of them!!I tip my hat!!

This younger cat is legit great. Full stop.
I fully agree. Most of the famous classical instrumentists, Rubinstein, Horowitz, Argerich, Lang, Accardo, Kissin, Segovia ... were never judged because they were not so known as composers. I hope I am not wrong here and I am aware that in rock music this might be different. Matteo is a brilliant player and has all the time to become a great composer. He is now playing classical pieces from Holdsworth, Jaco, Govan, Pass and also his own compositions( I know only this one performed here) which are at the same level in my ears. I admire him for what he is.
Chick always has incredible, innovative guitarists, from Bill Conners to Al D, to Scott Henderson and Frank Gambale, and I feel like Matteo has the talent to take that spot and add his own twist to Chick's music; just a nice thought, not like I have any influence, but it would be cool, or to see him with Hiromi!
