    Really enjoyed the review, Paul. As a viewer with plenty of air rifles and not in the market for a new one the style of this review was awesome. Having a second person giving their impression while you give yours is a great bonus. Fair and impartial as always, really enjoyed it. If the need arises I will definitely keep a NP2 rifle in mind. Great shooting.

    Great video and review guys! - LOL, I hope you do not take offense to what I am about to say, but I have to say it! - You guys' really remind me of the old SNL days 'Super fans' when you are sitting at that table! It was the first thing that popped in my head, sorry, couldn't resist! I think it was the glasses and general setting that got me there. - Beyond that, I think you guys' are great, love your videos, keep em' coming!

    Interesting review. I just got the Benjamin Summit NP2, and the first shot was rather loud, this with a 14 grain slug. Honestly, it sounded like a 22lr and the smoke and smell from the barrel reminded me of going to the range. Mistakenly, I ordered some 25 grain slugs, not realizing that they were for PCP guns. The Benjamin had no problems sending them either but didn't appear anywhere near as quiet as the rifle you were shooting.
    I have not had time to go target shooting, but if your experience is anything close to what I get out of the rifle, I will be thrilled. Knocking little steel targets over at 65 yards with an air rifle is impressive... And I will take minute of squirrel head at 35 yards all day long as a realistic expectation. The summit only set me back $160, so I am sure not to judge it too harshly. As far as the glass? It's ok, but I am tempted to pull my Nikon Monarch off my Mosin Nagant M28/76 and see what she will do with decent glass.

    Paul, I noticed that you had a different scope on your rifle in the video. Did your original scope fail. Mine did and I bought another from a different source and got similar results to yours. I'm very disappointed at the scope that came with it. I want to return it to Crosman so they can examine it and possibly repair it so others don't get a lemon, but Pyramid said to keep it all together in case I need to return the whole thing.
    Your tour of the factory was very nice. That's one of the main reasons I purchased the NP2. It's assembled here by American, NY workers.
    I like my NP2 and have ordered a better trigger. I see yours was breaking pretty easily. I'd figure mine a lot more than the results you have. If you would like, I'll send you my results when I get the new trigger and really put it to the test. Let me know.

    You know, you can adjust the objective on that stock CP scope. Just turn the end and it will focus on what ever you are aiming at. I don't know why so many people miss this.

    • @PaulCapello
      @PaulCapello 10 років тому +1

      Yes that trick can be done, but most of the time the image can become distorted around the edges. As long as there is enough thread on the objective lens and you don't degas it, it can work in a pinch.

    I'm having a hard time achieving the kind of grouping that you guys are getting with this rifle. I feel like I have trigger controle down, hitting the wall on the first stage and pulling the second stage rather quickly. I'm using the artillery hold and letting the recoil do what it wants to. Everything is tightened down and secure, I'm having some really inconsistent grouping, I have gone through 5 different types of pellets shooting at 20 yards. My best pellet was the jsb jumbo heavy.

      +Patrick Graves have u ran any rags through the barrel to clean it. and also have u shot a couple hundred rounds through it to break it in

  • @reedc83
    @reedc83 6 років тому

    I have held quite a few Trail NP2s and every one of them had some amount of barrel droop. Some of them so bad, I know they didn't go through that jig. Some of them had droop but either the compression tube was canted in the stock, or the breach slot milled crooked which resulted in the barrel drooping off to one side of the gun. That said, if the droop is only moderate, it's not hard to fix. Simply file down where the underside of the breach meets the stainless pin in full lockup. Just a little bit at a time and you can bring the barrel to almost true. Another thing that bugs me is how the scope mounts are not mounted level/square. They all lean to one side or the other like the compression tube wasn't level before the scope mount was attached. The scope can be rotated in the rings so the crosshairs are level but it is annoying none-the-less. Another mod that is an improvement is to replace the plastic pivot washers with brass ones of the same size and thickness. They can be found at home improvement stores in the hardware section; 2 to a bag which is enough needed for 1 rifle. This removes side to side play in the barrel while allowing the barrel to move freely.
    As for pellets, I have found my gun to really like the H&N Field Target Trophy 14.66gr sorted to 5.53mm. They seal well in the breach every time, shoot consistent and tight groups. For hunting, I use the H&N Baracuda Match 21.14gr also sorted to 5.53mm. They carry a lot of energy downrange, seal well in the breach every time, and shoot very tight groups as well.
    All that said... The rifle is a great one with a few refinements. Fun to shoot and plenty of power for most table fare. Thank you for this video, information, and walk-through of the factory.

    LOL, I had the EXACT SAME thing happen with a Benj NP2 XL Trail I bought (wood stock). Scope mount flew right off after about 200 shots. Sept. 2014. It was a good excuse to return it for a refund because in the time I had it I found out about how sensitive these springers are to the way they are held in terms of POI. The POI will shift depending on if there is a brace, free standing, leaning against a tree, kneeling, etc. I read about the "artillery hold" and how its import to be consistent in the way it is held to keep the POI consistent. Its because there is so much (relatively speaking) recoil in these types of air guns and the pellet is still in the barrel when all of this is going on. I did find that it had a high potential for accuracy if you always braced it the same exact way, but to me that is not a realistic scenario for what I want to do. I shoot freehand, from the bench, stand, kneel, brace against a tree or other object, etc. Oh yea, and the Pro Chrono measured only 675fps with Crossman 14.3gr pellets, much slower than I expected. I really liked the wood thumbhole stock, and overall if you don't mind the pitfalls listed above, its a good airgun.
    So then I learned about PCPs and the Benjamin Discovery and Marauder. I got a Marauder and that was that. Super accurate, little recoil, almost impervious to different holds, adjustable/tunable everything. 14.3gr Crossmans go out at 870fps. 18.1grainers go 770fps with standard factory tuning (which you can adjust yourself). If you can, save up the coin and go for a Marauder. Or Discovery if you don't mind the noise. Benjamin hit a home run with these. Absolutely the best bang for your buck out there.

    I did buy me trail np2 flew days ago and i am totaly disapointed with accuracy. I did try diferent type of pellets but cant make one good group. First i was thinking that problem is in stock optic but i did put 2 diferent on to be sure... groups were the same. you have to make corrections at elevation all the time. There seems to be problem in barell. my best group i did with trail np2 on 15m was the same i did with my gamo hunter extreme on 45m!

  • @fast03vette4me

    Crosman lacks QA/QC QMS methodologies. My NP2 was dirty and packed without care. Unlike my Umarex Impact .22 springer. Boxed and brand new clean like a champ. Also NP2 seems to shoot 14.3g pellets anywhere from 780 to 830 FPS, variation within the mfg. processes?

    Good review but two questions: 1) What scope were you using? and 2) The .177 sounded MUCH louder than the .22 but you only showed the 83dB. What was .177's sound reading? My need is for as quiet a rifle as possible.

    • @PaulCapello
      @PaulCapello 10 років тому

      The scope I used on the .22 was the Hawke Airmax EV 4-12x50. The .177 NP2 was shooting lead-free H&N Field Target Green pellets at supersonic speeds, hence the rimfire-like report. Using H&N Baracuda pellets with the .177 the velocity was in the high 900's and much quieter at subsonic speeds.

    Hey there, I'm debating on whether to get this one or the NP XL. I'd get this one if there's a solid way to know if I'm getting one of the late production, fixed-issues model. So if anyone has any tips on how to tell whether I'm about to be sold one of the crappy ones or one of the fixed ones, it'd be greatly appreciated. Perhaps a serial number to look for, or a particular detail that tells them apart? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance, and thanks for the great video :-)1

    Why does everyone make a big deal about the Crosman nitro piston gun being made in China look at all your hi dollar scopes and range finders they R made in China along with your hi dollar fishing reel like Shimano Pflueger Dawa list go on and on we Don't make anything in America just about everything you Buy in walmart comes from china Wake up people

    • @romanmax8561

      Its because usually when they make shit in China its made to be as cheep as possible . not that the Chinese's can't make good stuff but usually . unless they are told to they will make cheep shit . it all depends on what the company in the USA wants them to make quality Or cheep . if the company does not specifically tell them how they want something made they will. Cut corners .Examples use cheep materials for Example. like using low grade steel or paint .

      Not sure but this gun (mine anyway) is not good at all. I'm wondering why people would put a new scope on this gun! The factory scope FAR exceeds the gun. I bought the reviews and put a new mildot AO scope on it and put the NP2 scope on my 23' bulk 2240 and can hit a squirrel in the eye at 25 yards all day long with it. I can't even hit a squirrel at 10 yards with the NP2 since it seems to group 1.5'' at best with a 4 inch group at worst, this is at 10 yards mind you. Yes it's broken in, yes the screws are tight, yes I am holding it "right", yes I've tried different pellets. I've came across many who have same results.

      Wood or Synthetic stock? What kind of groups are you getting? What kind of pellets are you shooting? How are you holding the rifle? I have the wood stock model in .22 cal. I have put about 700 Crosman Premier Hollow Points from walmart through mine using various holds. It still won't group and is all over the place. Also tried better scope. I am about to take it back if I cannot get it to group. Shooting anywhere from 7 - 50 yards. It may group 2-3 then start throwing them somewhere else. I have worked on the trigger and removed the play from the barrel hinge to no avail.

    What was the noise with .177?

    • @haydenwright8879
      @haydenwright8879 9 років тому

      +Mr NiceKnife that noise you heard with the .177 was a shock wave created after the pellet exceeded the sound barrier. I didn't buy the .177 for that exact reason, it spooks your game unlike the .22

    • @MrNiceKnife
      @MrNiceKnife 9 років тому +1

      I was asking about the decibel level not the sonic crack, the pellet can be subsonic if you increase the pellet weight, my gammo mach1 rated at 1420fps is very quiet using 10.5 grain pellets but supersonic using light pellets.

      I disagree.... Velocity will increase.... if you can find a Beeman catalog (from the 1980's) you will believe.... the present Beeman airguns was bought out and things have changed

    Serious question for you guys. I presume that you are from the USA, apologies if this is not the case, but I just wanted to ask you why you bother at all with an air gun when you can get a firearm like a .22 or similar? What is the reason for going with air over a firearm? In the UK getting a firearm license is almost impossible so we are forced down the airgun route, but the US is amazingly easy to buy and own a firearm. Curious that is all.

      Same power plant and barrel etc so I'd get the Phoenix or Summit. Plus dovetail rails don't break off. They attached the picatinny rail better now, like the older Trails, but even those pop off now and then. Time will tell...

    Hi :)
    i own the Benjamin Trail NP 1500 xl... but, it feels a little big, im no littel man, im 182cm and my weight is 87 kilo... but this rifle feels just to big... so im looking for a little smaler rifle, and im thinking of this one, but i absolutly hate this stock :( the wood stock is much better i think, but here in my country its just the syntetic stock availible... and it cost to much to import it... but i can wait some more :) hope its good. and yea...we are restricted to 177.cal... if we wil have 5.5mm we must have a type of license from the police, so the shps dont import those since it simes nobody bother to have 5.5mm :( sorry for my bad english....
    Best regards from Norway

      Forget about it being as quiet if you live in canaduh .we get the non silenced insert stuck in the end of the barrel.quieter then a Springer though providing you dun break the sound barrier

    hello :) which caliber well be better for shooting on 50 meters to 70 meters distance (paper shield shooting) ? ,and why 177 caliber is making more noise like .22 ?
    Great review I subscripe Your channel !

    • @bennycracchiolo8729

      Tomasz Szostak .177 makes more noise than .22 because the .177 is smaller and moving faster making it louder than the slower .22

    and after you shoot the gun five to seven hundred rounds to break it in it's got a pretty good trigger on it it's a two-stage once you get it adjusted right I don't know why you it couldn't be a target shooting gun

      Same gun but diff stock and scope rail, so no point. It will shoot different, just as another Trail off the assy line will be different. If you had 100 Trails you'd get reviews ranging from excellent to sucks. The gun you buy will be in there somewhere. It's a gamble but that's how basically all cheaper guns are. You can always return lame ones, and after the warranty expires Crosman will sell you parts at a low or very reasonable price, unlike other mfg's.

      No. The .177 will have around 21ft/lbs. The .22 will have around 26ft/lbs

    • @chevota400
      @chevota400 7 років тому +1

      Those #'s PA posted are advertised #'s given by Crosman. Real #'s are 4-6ftlbs less for each caliber. Another example would be the old Trail Hardwood at 23ftlbs, and the Titan or other cheaper guns at 18ftlbs. They have the same power power plant! The difference is the Trail was more $/profit so they simply lied about the power. Reality is if you got 18 you got a good one, 23 is flat out impossible.
