    i used to just try to bring the front wheel up by pulling the bars up with my arms and i would still do the pedal motion but i learned that shifting your weight back behind the seat while simultaneously pushing hard on the pedal with your strongest foot helps get the front wheel up better and dont firget the brake.

    Good video. I’m a few weeks in. Hips steering was useful. I can manage about 4-5 secs max which seems like ages!! I started jumping off back which felt safe, now trying so get better at modulating braking. Focussing on arms straight pushing away from me! is helpful as is looking down the trail. Getting pop was super easy after practice. Get comfortable with going off back onto your feet so you aren’t scared of it

    took me years to get good at wheelies (realistically 300 hours of just wheelie practice)...but you will be a beginner at wheelies for a long time, definitely a few weeks, probably a few months...this is where you can pop up a lot and get a few pedals in, probably not using your brake, and not really controlling your speed within your wheelie, every 1 out of 30 or 50 times...you get almost 100 ft or a little more, but you might be stuck at this stage for a while...I was stuck at this stage for a very long time, because I would be very inconsistent with practice, and I would get away from the bike for years at a time...a couple years ago I got a modern MTB full sus, and was dedicated to progressing all my mtb skills, including wheelies and manuals, I was very consistent for about a full year, and then I finally broke through from a beginner to intermediate wheelie skill...that happened last spring, about 9 months ago, i went from beginner (as described earlier) to intermediate in what seemed like over night, but ....where all of a sudden I could get a 100ft wheelie 7 out of 10 times, every session using my brake and keeping the wheel up, not just falling momentum wheelies, but finally controlling the speed within my wheelie.... from there my progression sky rocketed quickly, and within another few months i was wheeling super long, at will, going super fast, downhill, uphill, coaster wheelies, and going slow...recently within the past couple months, I got really good at wheelies on narrow sidewalks, longer single track wheelies, and now Im working on swerves and sharper turns in my wheelies...being able to wheelie effortlessly is like floating on magic carpet...do whatever you can to get nice at wheelies yall, its more than worth it...i recently turned 38, and I say that i learned how to wheelie at 37,.... i didnt consider being able to wheelie as a beginner because, if you cant control your speed within a wheelie slow down and speed up, and get about 100 ft almost every time, then you aint really doing wheelies...not hating if this is where you at, just trying to motivate to get past that point, because I know its possible...never give up, never too late

    Hi Drew! I have a little questions for you: First I can wheliee for 10 minutes, I can do it uphill and downhill and almost every corner, but here are my problems:
    1. I get tired fast
    2. As soonest the front wheel stops rolling I have to put more efort in order to maintain the wheliee and I don't know why because I'm doing all right.
    3. I have a problem on turning in tight corners, I don't know why but always I have problems on right turns (what I do for turning is turn my bars the oposite way I want to go, I use my inside and outside knee and I am almost in the balance point and I don't lean my body with the bike, I let it in center maybe a little bit in the oposite way I'm turning, and with that I can steer my wheliee! But why can I do it perfect to the left and not not to the right? ) thank you very much bro!

      The spinning front wheel adds a gyroscopic effect to the bike, when the bars are turned, the wheel wants to stay where it is vertically, so the bike is forced to move. Seth from berm peak made a video about wheelies a long while back which covers this idea

      I usually try to lean backwards over the balance point, so I can use the brake. You have to do this as soon as you start to gain too much speed, or you cant get the front wheel up, because you are pedalng too fast.

    He says use your hips to balance side to side. But really, your hips are virtually locked by your saddle. You're really using your knees, throwing them out to the side to catch the lateral balance. Which is why, as you're learning, it helos to have your saddle a tiny but lower, it gives you more room to make this adjustment

    • @gillesbkf4315

    • @williammorris7895
      @williammorris7895 3 роки тому +1

      Hard to say exactly without seeing you, but it sounds like you're not quite initiating the wheelie straight. I'd suggest to try focus on straight arms, and try to pop the wheel up evenly from left/right. If you look down the path (not at your front wheel), this may help you balance more evenly. Also relax, sounds like you might be a bit tense, which hinders your ability to make small adjustments. That's often the secret to wheelies, constant small adjustments. Keep at it, just takes practice :-)

    i’ve been trying for about 2 weeks now and i’ve gotten up for about 5 seconds only and then i’d fall back or go down. i gotta learn to remember to hit my brake and stuff. ima watch this and hopefully understand it and use it to learn for the next months
