Epic that holds up to this very day. Fun Fact: The very first day of the shooting, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck started crying out of happiness, because it was a scene between Robin Williams and Stellan Skarsgård, accomplished actors, doing Damon's and Affleck's scene verbatim, and they had waited so long (five years) for this to happen.
I think one of my favorite moments in this movie is one I don't see many people talking about.. Gerald and Sean arguing passionately about Will's future and him walking in on it at the end. On first glance, it's easy to agree with Sean and dismiss Gerald for being misguided, but I don't think that's the point. It doesn't matter which one of them is right, what matters is that they both care deeply enough to get that heated about it, and Will finally has an example that he can't explain away, of two parental figures that he never had, proving they care about him when they don't know he's watching. I always thought that was the moment he realized he could fully trust Sean enough to be vulnerable and honest. Really beautiful writing.
Matt Damon & Ben Affleck wrote this when they were in college. They won the Academy Award for writing for this. As to other films where the star wrote it, Rocky & Citizen Kane are the only ones that come to my mind, though I'm sure there are many others.
Taika Waititi also did it with one of his movies over here in New Zealand called boy. He also generally appears in his other creations but I would say boy is one of the ones where he’s like a really main character. What we do in the shadows could be counted but technically it was written by lots of different people (people of which also played characters).
This film is fantastic, because it feels so real. The dialogue, the reactions, everything. And Robin Williams (of course) is such a rock star in this film. You should watch Cinema Therapy's take on this movie. They have a wonderful breakdown on not only the characters, but Robin William's portrayal of a GOOD therapist. Thank you for doing this film, it is one of my, many, favorites.
When Robin Williams passed away the bench in Boston Public Garden where Robin and Matt had that incredible scene became a huge shrine after news of his death
Fun fact. Kevin Smith and Scott Moser got executive producer credits for this film because Kevin Smith brought the script to miramax when Affleck was shooting Mallrats with Smith
I watched ‘therapist reacts’ to this video, and he considers this the prime cut of therapy. Robin Williams’ character is what therapists strive to be. Perfectly written, perfectly acted.
Next time you watch this, focus on Robin Williams' character and how he is also changed and helped by working with Will. Will is smart enough to analyze each of the therapists he is sent to and hits them at their weak points. It works on Williams' too, and his violent reaction is NOT OK for a therapist, but it starts him thinking not just about Will but about himself. The character arc is not as obvious as Will's but there are clues throughout.
That's true Ruth. I picked up on that too. Sean was so filled with anger and sadness himself. Will opened up what need to come out. It's a movie I look at over and over again!!!
24:03 A little improv from Robin Williams got the whole crew behind the camera clutching their ribs with laughter including the cameraman (you'll notice the camera shaking slightly)
This might be the best movie ever made. It's perfect in every aspect. The only complaint I have about this film is that it ends. I could watch a ten hour cut of this, no problem.
Great film. Such a massive movie. The story, script, acting, everything made this an absolute top dollar movie that deserved the recognition it received. 5 stars.
A lot of the dialogue between Will and Shawn was ad libed, including the part about the wife farting. When Will laughed at that part, it was actually Matt Damon genuinely laughing.
Hey mate, unfortunately I'd had 2 cut my watch short the 1st time, when u posted this, & hav just gotten 2 continue... I am @ 14:25 & u've just mentioned the help u give the kids that are acting out. Thank u, on behalf of them that can't say it or won't even understand the help u are 2 them until they're much older. You're a beautiful soul mate & I appreciate u & it's just so awesome how well u seem 2 understand certain issues such as this & the beautiful way u emapathize! ❤ from Brissy my friend 🥰
Hey just wanted to say that I've watched so many reaction videos on here from so many different people and so many movies and in my opinion you're channel is the best. You really understand the meaning of each movie and have some great points that get me thinking. Keep it up!!
I am so glad you enjoyed this movie. This movie is about trauma and self awareness, developed only through an intimate friendship or relationship. Self knowledge alone can't lead to a full comprehension of the human heart, because only relationships open the heart in addition to the mind.
That’s apparently the case with all his performances; I wouldn’t be surprised if in his career he improvised more lines than were written in the script.
I was lucky to find this movie when in Atlanta for a class. Will / Bill - might be ok I thought so I went. Not many movies I remember seeing the first time and even fewer still i watch 8ver and over.
When you say he is getting through to Will, that is true that he is now paying attention even if he is still acting out. What I find interesting is that Will is a genius academically but to Will I think he regards Sean a genius if you will of his understanding what is going on with him emotionally. Will is ill equipped to handle what is going on in his head and I think he’s starting to see the truth. You can tell he is starting to look up to Sean. He respects him. This is good stuff. I don’t know this to be true but I think you may have experienced something along the way or at least knew someone who was a recipient of violence. You have good insights. Good reaction. I’m going to subscribe.
14:44 they were not bad therapists, he was just too damn built up in his emotions and felt like insulting them was "a good idea". Someone with walls built up around extreme sadness like him too, but able to control them since hes a therapist was what he needed, i mean...thats how i interpreted it. Williams was the only one that did not stop at the first encounter after he insulted him
Hi man👍 Thank u for all u do! 🥰 Re ppl acting in movies they've written: Very rare in big movies, I believe!.... The fantastic Quinton Tarentino does small roles in most of his masterpieces! I think he's bloody brilliant!!🤩 Have a wonderful wk mate!🤗 💚🇦🇺
I didn't have the kind of hellish upbringing Will did. My family was quite loving actually. But I had a tough time with my peers and was bullied and excluded a lot, including with some physical abuse but mostly emotional abuse (which can be worse). I can relate to the kinds of things Will feels in this movie and some of the dynamics at play. It's not a completely accurate representation of therapy and trauma. Like in most movies, the timeline is way too brief. You don't go from where Will was at the beginning of the movie to where he is at the end in a matter of weeks or even months. But as a way of making you feel the emotions of what it is like to be in someone like Will's shoes, it is quite effective.
Great movie again :) . You should do Robin Willams Awakenings next . Also you can do Matt Damon The Rainmaker. You can also do some movies no reactor will ever do like Cadlic Man or The World According To Garp.
Should check out Gus Van Sant's follow up to this film his criminally underrated "Finding Forrester" which also happens to be Sean Connery's 2nd to last role. Also the next time you want a movie that will put the old noggin into overdrive, watch Jim Carrey's phenomenal "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"!
would love to see a reaction to eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, especially since youve been in a long term realtionship that im sure has had its ups and downs over time. It’s a beautiful movie, moving and just well written. ( jim Carrey and Kate winslet (titanic girl))
Very uncommon to write the screenplay for the film you star in. Even more rare to star/write/direct the same film which Ben Affleck did for The Town. Hopefully you react to that if you haven't seen it
🙌🏼 🙌🏼 🙌🏼 yaassss! (** has 2 b the SHORTER version tho....the extended cut really F🤬KS the whole movie up with unnecessary BS dialogue. dilutes it HORRIBLY!! not an exaggeration)
Great reaction, very interesting to see this through your eyes! My #2 on my list of best movies ever! You've already reacted to #1 (Shawshank Redemption)... If you haven't already, you might like my #3 Gran Torino! Keep reacting and we'll keep watching!
Half way thru ur reaction I'll give u comment to help ur channel. I don't blindly comment but I really like u. I love how u pick up on small Stuff. It's a struggle I've had . I ID with will. I don't remember pictures. I'm eidentic. I remember facts. Ppl talk to u different if u appear smart. It's hard to connect if uve IQ and gfs feel stupid n leave. I've been there. But is a really good love story. Thank you for giving one of my favorite movies justice
Why are the curse words edited??? We are adults!!! Most reaction videos to this film leave it alone. They are in Boston!! Part of the fun is listening to them curse!!!
It’s because these boys grew up in an environment where grifting and hustling is a Normal thing to make ends meet and have a couple bucks to go to one of those Harvard Bars. It might not be right but just like Bob Dylan said. If you got nothin you got nothin to lose. You deprive communities of opportunities and this is what you get. It irritates me to see people who act totally surprised that this stuff happens.
I can't help but notice how they make it sound like the math problems on the blackboard were really hard, although they aren't at all. All four parts of the first one are about a topic we teach in our first year math course for computer science (and they're *not* a Fourier system like the professor claimed in class). The first part of the second problem is one of those that are hard if you don't have the right tools at hand, but becomes rather easy once you do. The second part of the second problem is essentially just going through a few case distinctions. In fact, there are still two trees missing in addition to those written on the board.
@12:19 That’s Director Harmony Korrine who had an indie hit movie around this time that rocked the indie movie world. I saw it in theatres in Sydney actually.

Shopgirl the movie starring and written by Steve Martin is an adaptation of the novella written by him.
Taika Waititi also did it with one of his movies over here in New Zealand called boy.
He also generally appears in his other creations but I would say boy is one of the ones where he’s like a really main character.

Woody Allen. Spike Lee. Ed Burns. Gerta Gerwig. Seth Rogen. Dan Aykroyd. Gene Wilder. Kumal Namjiani. Mel Brooks. Mike Birbilglia. The Wayan Bros. Albert Brooks. Ricky Gervais.
How has no one here mentioned Clint Eastwood? D:
@@tudeslildude because he doesn't write his films

They made the money happen.
I watched ‘therapist reacts’ to this video, and he considers this the prime cut of therapy. Robin Williams’ character is what therapists strive to be. Perfectly written, perfectly acted.
Another Robin Williams masterpiece.... Dead Poets Society. From this English major to an English teacher.
Next time you watch this, focus on Robin Williams' character and how he is also changed and helped by working with Will. "But this girl is perfect right now. I dont wanna ruin that."
"Well maybe youre perfect right now. Maybe you dont wanna ruin that."
Geesh, this back to back with Field of Dreams is just a gut punch today:
24:03 A little improv from Robin Williams got the whole crew behind the camera clutching their ribs with laughter including the cameraman (you'll notice the camera shaking slightly)
Just finished watching this movie for the thousandth time. Never gets old
This might be the best movie ever made. It's perfect in every aspect. The only complaint I have about this film is that it ends. I could watch a ten hour cut of this, no problem.
He’s wicked sma-ht
Love this movie…I KNOW this is gonna be an awesome reaction. No doubts in my mind you’re gonna love it.
"That son of a bitch
Je stole my line"
Is a line that robin Williams improvised 😊🧡
Also, the "Son if a bitch, he stole my line". Williams didn't know that was going to be in the script. Such chemistry.
Hey mate, unfortunately I'd had 2 cut my watch short the 1st time, when u posted this, & hav just gotten 2 continue... I am @ 14:25 & u've just mentioned the help u give the kids that are acting out. This has been my favorite movie since I saw it in theaters back in ‘97. So glad you watched it! Now, time for some laughs with Mrs. Doubtfire…
Dude, you got me emotional with your take. Thanks.
Hey just wanted to say that I've watched so many reaction videos on here from so many different people and so many movies and in my opinion you're channel is the best. You really understand the meaning of each movie and have some great points that get me thinking. Keep it up!!
Another one of my all-time favorite movies it's so witty and clever
Not even done with the ads before the video and I’m so excited to see your reaction
I am so glad you enjoyed this movie. This movie is about trauma and self awareness, developed only through an intimate friendship or relationship. Self knowledge alone can't lead to a full comprehension of the human heart, because only relationships open the heart in addition to the mind.
The last line of Robert "Sun of a b*tch, he stole my line" it was NOT on the script. Robin came up with it.
If it makes any difference mate..I love watching your channel! You rock my face off and I love when I get an alert! Cheers mate!!
This and A Beautiful Mind r my two favorite movies...Robin Williams mainly used his own lines..ad libbed.
That’s apparently the case with all his performances; I wouldn’t be surprised if in his career he improvised more lines than were written in the script.
No, he didn’t.
Most of his lines were scripted. The scene where he was talking about his wife farting and the last line of the movie were ad libbed.
R.I.P. Robin Williams
😢
thanks for the reaction, i'll hope you'll react to more Robin Williams movies, my personal favorite is Dead Poets Society (1987).
I love that movie with my whole heart.
I was lucky to find this movie when in Atlanta for a class. Will / Bill - might be ok I thought so I went. Not many movies I remember seeing the first time and even fewer still i watch 8ver and over.
Amazing reaction and analysis. Perfect.
As à teacher, you could use this movie and show it to your students, it would open lots of good conversations
That was a great thought you expressed after seeing this movie! Words to live by!👏💡❤

Best reaction I've seen to this movie!
One of the best movies ever!!
Always brings the tears.

The BEST movie about human connection and communication Love ♥
Somebody send out a flood warning in his area, because he gonna CRY!
Welcome back LEGEND
The guy he talked about ramanujan there is a movie about it called "infinity".
This could be the best movie of all time, definitely top 3.
I didn't have the kind of hellish upbringing Will did. My family was quite loving actually. World According To Garp is good. Also, Jack.
Man, I miss Robin Williams
Another great Matt and Ben film is Dogma!
Hahhaa. Great way to sell it. ;-)
Rip Robin Williams
Should check out Gus Van Sant's follow up to this film his criminally underrated "Finding Forrester" which also happens to be Sean Connery's 2nd to last role. Also the next time you want a movie that will put the old noggin into overdrive, watch Jim Carrey's phenomenal "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"!
Best movie ever! ♥️ your reaction. Thanks!
When Robin Williams talked about fart, that was improved.
I would love to see your reaction to Good Morning, Vietnam! Another great performance by Robin Williams.
would love to see a reaction to eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, especially since youve been in a long term realtionship that im sure has had its ups and downs over time. It’s a beautiful movie, moving and just well written. ( jim Carrey and Kate winslet (titanic girl))
Stallone wrote Rocky and wouldn’t sell the script unless he was allowed to play the lead role too.
Very uncommon to write the screenplay for the film you star in. Even more rare to star/write/direct the same film which Ben Affleck did for The Town. Hopefully you react to that if you haven't seen it

Why would you laugh after Williams grabs Damon by the throat? It's a serious moment.
Great reaction, very interesting to see this through your eyes! My #2 on my list of best movies ever!
You've already reacted to #1 (Shawshank Redemption)... If you haven't already, you might like my #3 Gran Torino!
Keep reacting and we'll keep watching!
Sylvester Stallone wrote and starred in Rocky

UA-cam demonetization issues.
if you jam your foot on a table leg and split a toenail don’t get grouchy at others... you never know when someone else might be having a worse day
Great movie, isn't it?
After this and "Field of dreams" you should try "reign over me".
Surprise: Adam Sandler can realy act.
You're great Auzzie Dillon. From the UK. Don't hate us.
It is not common for the stars to write the screen play. Sylvester Stallone did it with Rocky...and Stallone was no one at the time.
Robin Williams in Fischer King, should be next.
Nice reaction. Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society next?
people get offended. Let em.
Perfect 💯
Well for exemple you have braveheart. Mel Gibson played the main role and directed it that amazing movie.
He said Elliot Smith was putting him to sleep. Bruh, what??
Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight. Gonna grab some afternoon delight.
Negative comments.....just fuckin around. Great shit bro 😁
Sweet video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Fantastic reaction , & review, Please do FOREST GUMP and SCENT OF A WOMAN and CASALANCA !! Also THE WIZARD OF OZ !,
Nice, brah.
The music is one of the biggest characters in the film. Take Elliott Smith out and the film just doesnt feel the same.
Will you be watching infinity war
8.3/10 on Imdb seems rather low for a movie of this caliber.
Plz reaction the missing you 2016 🙏
That IMDB score is complete crap. 10/10 all day long.

No one cares.
You mean Matt Damon is not in fact a math genius? Or Skellan Skarsgard ? Shucks, my day is ruined.
Dude!! Watch more!! Talk less!! STOP trying do figure the film out first!! Watch it then comment!
Had to stop watching because you talked over and didn’t hear some of my favorite lines.
“I’m an English teacher. Maths is not my forte”
Then you should know how to pronounce “forte” correctly.
@12:19 That’s Director Harmony Korrine who had an indie hit movie around this time that rocked the indie movie world. I saw it in theatres in Sydney actually.
