Aww Colin what a lovely thing to say mate. This did hit me right in the heart and I am not one for breaking like that...The acting and story was so good I literally couldn't help it! Thanks again mate, I really appreciate it!
Agree. This movie obviously hit you like it did me. So I hit all the buttons. I hope the rest of your reviews are as good as this one. I will be watching them.
"How do you like them apples?" Fun Fact: The lines in the scene when Sean talks about his late wife's farting antics were ad-libbed by Robin Williams. That is why Matt Damon was laughing so hard. If you watch the scene carefully, you can notice the camera shaking a bit, possibly due to the cameraman laughing as well. MIT Connection Fact: Matt Damon, a former Harvard student, originally intended to make the title character a physics prodigy. He discussed his idea with Sheldon L. Glashow, a Nobel laureate in physics and, at the time, a Harvard professor. Glashow told him that the premise did not ring true to him: he suggested that the main character be a math prodigy instead. He referred Damon to his brother-in-law, Daniel Kleitman, a professor of mathematics at MIT, who provided advice on the story. Glashow and Kleitman are thanked in the credits. Dream Realized Fact: The very first day of the shooting, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck started crying out of happiness, because it was a scene between Robin Williams and Stellan Skarsgård, accomplished actors, doing Damon's and Affleck's scene verbatim, and they had waited so long (five years) for this to happen.
IMO Chuckie is one of the great cinematic best friends. He loves Will unconditionally, always has his back, is proud of his gifts rather than jealous, and deeply wants the best for him, even if it means some amount of personal sadness for himself. Not an ounce of selfishness to be found. As Sean notes, Chuckie is family.
My first time watching your channel. So glad you loved this, one of my Favorite movies. I cried like a baby the first time I saw it. Movies set in Boston, a truly special city, have a gritty beauty to them. Mystic River is another Boston bases film with a difficult but interesting story and gorgeous cinematic choices.
First time viewer of yours. A couple recs. People will recommend Dead Poets Society. It's a coming of age movie with Robin Williams in another mentor role. If you don't watch that, I'd recommend It's a Wonderful Life (black and white version). The dialogue is great if you like very raw emotional scenes.
Ben and Matt wrote the screenplay for this movie when they were in their early twenties. Won the Oscar. Robin took a major cut in salary in order to get the film made. Simply awesome!!
Aww thanks Cassandra, really appreciate the comment! This movie was so good and Robin Williams was brilliant! almost broke my heart when Will finally broke!
i think the neighborhood hes from is Southie in Boston, working class Irish-American families etc, so it is a rough area, poor, crime, etc. love your work Sofa & Chill, keep it up!

36:19 I’m waiting for a storm… yeah about that 1.) this reaction made me realize how much higher Professor holds Will. 2.) I still think that medal is stupid much like Sean sees it 3.) 285 is impressive to bench 4.) definitely one of the better reactions out there, for the most part just lets the scenes play out without talking over them. Don’t get me wrong, it’s ok and cool to have reactions/dialogue but sometimes it also nice to just let the movie be a movie
Thank you so much Craig, I have seen a bit of the Shawshank redemption but not the Princess Bride. I guess I know which movies I am adding to the watch list :)
Greetings from Seattle! I always enjoy finding new channels. I found your's serendipitously while looking for something else. Watching one of my favorite movies through your eyes was a joyfull experience.
Robin Williams improvised a majority of his lines because, well, he is Robin Williams. The farting story was ad libed. The reaction from Matt Damon was genuin. Robin Williams was a genius. RIP
And I'm already crying. Not even three minutes in. I love this movie. Could you check out the dead poet society? Robin always did the best comedy but his messages in the dramatic films are just so impactful. That was one of Robins true talents. Improv or not he really lead us to believe in ourselves.
You called it in the beginning…when he hit that kid on the playground, you said “he’s got issues”. Yep! Lol Enjoyed your reaction. My first here and will check out some more. Not a MC fan and that seems to be your zone…but I’ll check out the other ones! Cheers!
Thanks Kris really appreciate the comment! I am watching a wide range of stuff at the moment lol. Stranger Things, Vikings, Attack on Titan, The Pacific...hope you find something that keeps you around :) Speak soon mate
I watch reactions because I love to see people appreciate the dialogue, nuance, and underlying themes of great cinema. It’s so frustrating when those things just go over the reactor’s head. This was super enjoyable. Your appreciation of the acting, direction, and writing was apparent. Thanks for the excellent reaction to this wonderful film.
SO glad you picked up on the music! That song in particular, and many others, were written by Elliott Smith (the director was a fan), and he got an Oscar nomination for it. A very shy, troubled musical genius, the new found fame was quite uncomfortable for him, contributing to his depression & drug addiction. He killed himself a few years after this movie came out, but he released a couple of complete albums, and a compilation album of half finished songs in between. Definitely check him out.
I forget where I heard it, but the movie shows an interesting contrast: the neighborhood called South Boston (or "Southie" for short) is known for two things - being very blue-collar, and a strong link to Irish Catholicism. Now, Harvard and MIT of course are among the most prestigious universities in the world, and Harvard in particular has a strong Protestant linkage, notably because its reported namesake John Harvard was a Puritan clergyman. Will's intellect would cause him to stand out in Southie. That's why the "genius from Southie" line from Sean is so unexpected.
Something pretty subtle that I'm not sure was intentional, but sure feels like it: when Sean first meets Will, he's calling him "Sport" and "Champ" and stuff like that. By the end, he's calling him "Son."
When Robin passed away the bench in Boston Public Garden became a huge memorial. It's still a popular place for photos. I liked how you picked up on Robin's throat grab as a means of respect. South Boston (Southie) in the 70's and 80's was a tough predominantly Irish section of Boston where shit was never taken.
People have always said the hardest thing about working with Robin Williams is trying not to laugh. When they made Aladdin, the actors and actresses would have to get out of the booths immediately to laugh so that it wouldn't mess up the recording. Robin ad libbed so many of his lines that they actually have two hours of additional recordings when he'd try to find the right characters for Genie to impersonate. When Steven Spielberg made Schindler's List, he would be so depressed filming the movie that he would call Robin Williams after each shoot to cheer him up with some comedy.
some of the finest acting by Matt Damon and MInnie Driver that I Have ever seen...great reaction! The best reaction to this movie that I have ever seen and I have seen seen several...great job!
Nice job Kev. Good insights. True appreciation for the brilliance of this film. Now you can see why Robin Williams won an Oscar for this. 100% deserved.
This is one of my favourite movies and I really enjoyed your reaction. I like seeing people react to this movie and I must admit this reaction of yours is probably the best I’ve seen. Great job. 🇦🇺
Very endearing and heartfelt reaction.❤️ Affleck was 25 (I think the youngest writer to win an Oscar ) and Damon was 27. You should check out Robin Williams Oscars acceptance speech for this role.
Robin Williams and this movie changed my life. With "Mork and Mindy", which I watched as a young kid, he was the first person I ever identified as being something called an actor playing something called a character. And I knew that was what I wanted to do with my life. When I went to my first therapist, I told him about this movie, and the very next session, he had watched it and hit me with the "it's not your fault" speech. In 2011, in my first trip to New York, I met Robin. He must have had about 200 people around him, but he took the time to properly chat to everyone, including me. I got to thank him for everything he had meant to me, which he weirdly seemed very touched to hear, and we took a selfie and had a hug. When he died, I was holed up on my bed crying for three days. It took me 5 years to watch any of his work again. Not too long ago, I had an important meeting with some influential casting directors, and, after spending hours trying to decide what monologue to do and putting it aside, I faced my fears and did the speech from the park bench. The meeting could not have gone better. The following year, I visited Boston, and the only place I knew I needed to go was that bench. I found it, sat down, and something really special came over me. My Dad took a really closeup photo of me, looking straight forward, lost in thought, and it's probably my favourite photo of myself. I'm so glad you've discovered this masterpiece. Another Robin great is "What Dreams May Come".
Wow! I'm so happy to hear that he was nice to you and that you got so much from the experience. He was friends with the talkshow host, Craig Ferguson. Most of their interactions are on youtube. You can see how they were such great friends. I would like to think that Craig helped cheer him up somewhat because Craig went through many of the same problems that Robin did.
@@marieparsons9908 I know a lot of comedians who were friends with him (I also do stand-up), and him being friends with Craig (who I have also briefly spoken to), as he loved Scottish people. And I'm from Glasgow!
@@ToniMcGinty That's wonderful. I gotta say, this new internet thing sure brings interesting people into my life. Best wishes to you in all your endeavors! 🙋♂️
@@marieparsons9908 Thank you! And yeah, internet has that effect, if you let it. 11 years ago, I was lucky enough, on the same trip to NY where I met Robin, to meet with a woman whose life I had inadvertently saved online 8 years before. It's amazing what can be achieved if people used it for good.
Not quite the same but 'Big Fish' always makes me cry. Ewan McGregor, Danny Devito, Jessica Lange, and HBC. Directed by Tim Burton. Different from most of his films I think yet very Burton as well. Great movie. I cry every time. It's a great movie about fathers and sons (or any parent child relationship really)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a good film in a similar vein. It's also really impactful, well-written and well-acted. Dead Poet's Society is another watch if you haven't seen it. Loved this reaction, you've gotten a new subscriber
I just discovered you today! Charming and authentic reaction. 🥰 My mom was from England and she grew up during WW2. She came to the U.S. , eventually married my father and they built a log home in Seattle,WA where I currently live with my fiancé. Anyhow…you would be so awesome if you did ANY more Robin Williams movies. The Fisher King, What Dreams May Come, The Dead Poet’s Society, The World According To Garp. All of them are terrific! Aladdin with Robin’s voice as the genie is also terrific for the whole family. I’m really looking forward to more reactions by you. Cheers and take care!
Hi Stacy, aww what a lovely thing to say :). I loooovveeee Seattle, we drove down from Vancouver a few years ago and I went to the space needle...it was so cool. I haven't seen The Fisher King, Dead Poet's society or The World According To Garp so that gives me a great array of movies to look forward too. Thanks again for such a wonderful comment and will speak soon! Where in the UK did your mom grow up?
@@SofaandChill , hey! I feel like I’m touching greatness by receiving a reply so quickly. 💜💕💜 I’m so tickled that you have been to my neighborhood. My mother was born 1934 in London and was raised in Hove and spent a lot of time in Brighton. Her father became a Captain of a mine-sweeping ship during WW2 and eventually divorced my grandma and remarried an ex-nun thirty-five years his Junior. They had a son, so I have a half uncle a year younger than me! I’ve been over there at 9yrs old, 1979, and again at 27 the year Diana died. My mom ended up selling a detached house in downtown Hove that she inherited. It was a two story home with a garden and stone fence. I went over to arrange things with the solicitor.. I love your Country! I promise you will LOVE the movies I mentioned. What Dreams May Come and Good Morning Vietnam are also very famous movies of Robin’s. Totally magical performances in all of his movies and all are very touching. Have a great night and I look forward to seeing more on your channel. Keep up the good work!
@@jesterforhire Now this is just getting freaky...My brother lives in Hove and I am visiting him at the weekend! He has one of those multicoloured beach huts that people sit outside of and have a drink near the beach :) Thank you so much for the recommendations and I will definitely choose one very soon Speak soon Stacy 🙂
@@SofaandChill , you will probably drive right by our old house. It’s on the left side, on a corner, directly across the street from an auto dealership. It’s right when you turn down the Main Street I think when you are coming from Brighton. I can’t remember the names of the streets, but it’s a detached, 2 story old home with a stone or brick wall and a big yard with a bomb shelter. All of the other houses are row houses. Because she sold it, she paid off our home here. She passed at 83, May 24th, 2018. She would have loved to have seen you and your son’s reactions. Have a great time!
Brilliant film, not watched it in a few years, and to think how young they were when they wrote this! Amazing skill right there, good to see your reaction
I LOVED your reaction.....it is the best I've seen. You were genuinely invested, deeply understood each character, appreciated the dialogue, acting and how each scene could stand on its own. And didn't hold your emotions back. This movie will stand the test of time. I think it'd be an amazing teaching tool obviously for actors, but also for those teaching dichotomy within social groups, cultural traditions, educational levels, age, economic positions, etc. In a perfect world I hope those teachings would help us gain a better understanding that at our core, we want and need the same things. I've subscribed and am off to watch another of yours. Cheers.
Hey Kev! Glad you did this one. For me personally and I know for a lot of guys our age, this is one of those movies that opens the door to watching more emotionally charged stories! If you like this blend of emotion and intelligence, I recommend a movie called Gifted (Chris Evans, 2017). It is a really great story, especially for a newer movie.
Thanks George and yeah I am really pleased also. I have had a great response from it and some of the recommendations regarding future movies have been amazing. Definitely something new to the channel :)
I remember watching this as a kid and was just blown away. It really inspired me to get better in school through some really messed up times. The older I get, watching it hits me harder every time. These days I can't even get through it without tearing up or outright weeping. Lovely reaction as always Kev. I'm glad you're feeling better; much love to you and the family. Sofa and Chill 4 life.
Just caught this on my feed, first time watching one of your reactions. I gotta say, I watch a ton of reaction channels and have seen this brilliant movie watched for the first time by many of them, but your reaction was the best of them all and definitely the most emotional. Afterwards I immediately hit the subscribe button and i cannot wait to see more of your reactions! Keep up the great work!
The brilliance of the writing is just practically beyond anything else in modern cinema. The dialogue, and the way it is performed is insanely good, and then below that the way the whole story is woven together makes it hard to believe it was written by these two young guys. The way the discussions keep coming back to his wife... Partially because that type of fidelity and loss is so closely tied to Will's own issues. But Sean also keeps going back to it, because Will wasn't the only one who needed some therapy. It's through the act of helping Will that Sean is able to come to terms with his own pain. Narrative depth that is essentially unheard of these days.
First time seeing your channel. I really enjoyed your reaction so much. It isn’t easy to find a smart, thoughtful reactor who doesn’t talk constantly through the whole thing. You’ve got a new subscriber! Looking forward to watching more on your channel.
I HIGHLY recommend Manchester By The Sea with Casey Affleck if you haven't seen it already- set in the same part of the country (greater Boston area - New England) and it feels incredible realistic - bottled brilliance ;)
Excellent reaction! I would recommend Swingers, with John Favreau (he also wrote it) I haven’t seen anyone react to it and it was such a simple low budget movie that became quite influential in the 90’s. It’s very good and funny and yet reactors seem to have never known of it. Thank you.
This movie is in the dictionnary to illustrate the word catharsis. So many masterful scenes... My fave is the job interview where Will flattens the interviewer. Must be the libertarian in me... 😁
Nice reaction Kev! Love this film! If your going on a Robin Williams marathon you should totally watch Hook, Flubber, Mrs Doubtfire and Jumanji, they are some of my all time favourite films. Ps the scene where Robin talks about the wife farting in her sleep? All improv my man 🤣
While looking for reactors on this film stumbled on yours and your body language while Will & Skylar we're having their explosive argument where it almost looked like Will would hit her..man your whole body sank back you could barely even look at it. It was awesome to see how much you were into this great film. I subscribed.👍
Great reaction to an amazing movie. The soundtrack to this movie is phenomenal, they utilized Elliot Smith's music perfectly. If you don't know his music, you should check it out
Easily on my list for best movies of all time and knowing Robin, finally receives his long over due Oscar, is the cherry on top! If you liked this, you should also check out Finding Forrester, it's director Gus Van Sant's follow up to this movie, it also happens to be Sean Connery's 2nd to last performance, before going on to make The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, the movie that killed his desire to act again!
@Sofa and Chill Just as Colin said, yours was one of the better reactions. I cried along with you in the “Not your fault” scene. And you must get the entire soundtrack...phenomenal. Extraordinary how these two “kids” wrote the screenplay. A few tidbits....They won the Oscar for the screenplay. Also, Matt Damon & Minnie Driver fell in love making the film. So, their chemistry was genuine. As per your request, I highly recommend One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest...another extraordinary film 🔥 So happy that you enjoyed it! 🖤🌹🖤🧛🏻♀️
I can't think of a comparable movie right now. Maybe 'Patch Adams' if you want more Robin Williams doing a serious but funnier role. Not quite as good as this but it gets you in the feels... and it's loosely based off a true story.
@@SofaandChill something interesting to mention is that I think it was psychiatrists/psychologists that have said this is the movie best show what it's like. I don't know if it's true, but as movies goes.. they are usually not very accurate, so maybe it's a low bar 🙂
Great reaction. Great film. One of the best of all time. You should watch Interstellar at some point. Very different but some themes align, especially friendship and families👊

The indie music in this movie really sets the palette
Awesome reaction to what is easily one of the best movies ever made. Thank you!
One of the best films of all time for me. Cool seeing someone watch it for the first time!
Every movie with Robin Williams in it is a masterpiece, I loved him so much 😥
Not quite the same but 'Big Fish' always makes me cry. Ewan McGregor, Danny Devito, Jessica Lange, and HBC. Directed by Tim Burton. Different from most of his films I think yet very Burton as well. Great movie. I cry every time. It's a great movie about fathers and sons (or any parent child relationship really)
Hey this reaction is probably the best I’ve seen. If u like robin williams I highly recommend u are dead poets society. It’s another beautiful movie.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a good film in a similar vein. It's also really impactful, well-written and well-acted. Dead Poet's Society is another watch if you haven't seen it. Loved this reaction, you've gotten a new subscriber
A beautiful film as well, Jim Carreys best film I believe.
I'm still crying over that movie, every god damn time
I know right! It will do the same to me now I can tell!
My first time watching a reaction of yours and it was great watching this with you. Thank you for sharing your reaction with us!
He has one of those multicoloured beach huts that people sit outside of and have a drink near the beach :)
Thank you so much for the recommendations and I will definitely choose one very soon
Speak soon Stacy 🙂
@@SofaandChill , you will probably drive right by our old house. It’s on the left side, on a corner, directly across the street from an auto dealership. It’s right when you turn down the Main Street I think when you are coming from Brighton. I can’t remember the names of the streets, but it’s a detached, 2 story old home with a stone or brick wall and a big yard with a bomb shelter. All of the other houses are row houses. Because she sold it, she paid off our home here. She passed at 83, May 24th, 2018. She would have loved to have seen you and your son’s reactions. Have a great time!
R.I.P., Robin.😞
Brilliant film, not watched it in a few years, and to think how young they were when they wrote this! Amazing skill right there, good to see your reaction
Fantastic reaction! Love your presentation and editing choices. The length and your commentary are just right.
Aww thanks David, very much appreciated my friend
It is a nearly perfect film. Incredible performances from a couple dudes who were quite unknown then.
I have probably seen every reaction on youtube on Good Will hunting, one of my absolute favorite movies. And you reaction is the best Ive seen :)
Wow, thank you so much Jonatan, that is such a lovely thing to say. I loved this movie so much and so happy that I was able to do it justice
39:04 I mean...he did save him from jail and gave him free therapy and a possibility, so a little bit of appreciation would be really good
I LOVED your reaction.....it is the best I've seen.
Ah man this was one of my favorite Robin Williams movie's 💙🙏 Amazing video as always Kev 🤘
Great reaction. I can watch this movie all the time. Never gets old
I absolutely loved it my friend and will probably watch it again very soon
You are a good person, I could tell you have a big heart.
Hey Ive just see your video, i love this movie, is always so good to see People reacting it too, thank you, from Brasil.
Thank you for watching my friend, really appreciate it.
Such an brilliant movie
Great reaction. It is an all-time great movie. The writing and acting were just elite.
So good
Absolutely!
Narrative depth that is essentially unheard of these days.
i broke too bro. From Virginia, near DC, in the US. Loved this reaction.
First time seeing your channel. I really enjoyed your reaction so much. It isn’t easy to find a smart, thoughtful reactor who doesn’t talk constantly through the whole thing. You’ve got a new subscriber! Looking forward to watching more on your channel.
First time seeing a reaction from you. Love your style. Definitely headed to check out what else you've got. 👍🏻
Thanks!
Aww thanks Jenna, really appreciate it. Let me know if you have any recommendations that you think my reacting style would suit :)
This movie made me want to become a social worker. And I have not regreted it once.
Thank you.
Great reactions and good choice for the edits and scenes you chose. Will be a subscriber. Keep up the great work!
That Robin Williams scene won him a Oscar!
Casey Afflec is in this film.
This movie is in the dictionnary to illustrate the word catharsis. So many masterful scenes... My fave is the job interview where Will flattens the interviewer. Must be the libertarian in me... 😁
Fantastic film! definitely in my top 5 films of the 1990s 🙂
Easily one of mine now bro, amazing stuff!
90’s was a great decade for movies.
@@MrAdamloring1985 Absolutely my friend!
YEEESSSS!!!
Such an amazing movie mate!
Great reaction once again dude.
Beautiful movie, and a treat of a reaction. Subbed, Sir.
@Sofa and Chill
Just as Colin said, yours was one of the better reactions.
As per your request, I highly recommend One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest...another extraordinary film 🔥
So happy that you enjoyed it!
🖤🌹🖤🧛🏻♀️
One of the best pieces of cinema...ever! ♥
Close to a perfect movie. RIP Robin Williams
Well done. Yanks wont know what taking the mick is. I'm engaged to a Brit and it took me 2 years. ;)
I can't think of a comparable movie right now. Maybe 'Patch Adams' if you want more Robin Williams doing a serious but funnier role. Not quite as good as this but it gets you in the feels... and it's loosely based off a true story.
“Gifted” is also good flick in this guise..
Great idea, will give it a watch :)
I'm not crying, you are crying ! ;-)
Amazing movie.
I was crying lol
@@SofaandChill something interesting to mention is that I think it was psychiatrists/psychologists that have said this is the movie best show what it's like. I don't know if it's true, but as movies goes.. they are usually not very accurate, so maybe it's a low bar 🙂
Great reaction. Great film.
One of the best of all time. You should watch Interstellar at some point. Very different but some themes align, especially friendship and families👊
Excellent reaction video thanks! If you’re going to get more into deep drama and top acting I’d recommend Scent of a Woman next.
Don't know how much you're into Romances, but for suggestions, "I love The Lake House", and "A Walk to Remember"
I haven't really tried them John so The Lake House could be fun...definitely something different!
Great reaction my lad.
Now you gotta to watch “Front of the Class” and “Gifted”. They are amazing movies!! 😁
