Bob Marley referenced that quote from the scripture in the Bible from Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his soul (KJV)
It is! I used to use Aphogee 2 step protein treatments on my relaxed hair, so I’ve always used it for my natural hair as well. But I’m consistently surprised when my fellow naturals finally realize they need protein treatments like 3 years into being natural. Hair care is all about balance. ❤️
Moisture overload is REAL and exactly why I DON'T SLEEP IN CONDITIONER any longer. I'm low porosity and while I don't have to do protein treatments often, there are times when they are needed. LISTEN TO YOUR HAIR GIRLS, IT TALKS #trust
I did it the first time i deep conditioned with heat because i needed it but the next time i tried, i didn't get to an hour because my hair felt too wet. I think now i'll only ever do it in the shower during wash day and rinse out at the last second in my shower. But true point!
Nicole P One of the biggest ways you’ll know is just what Kim describes in her vid-how her hair felt. Anytime your hair is too soft, feels gummy or mushy, isn’t holding styles well-a combination of all the above and then some, all are ways to know when its time to do a protein treatment. And if you’re unsure and want to dry a treatment not as strong as the Aphogee 2 Step, they do have a Curlific line also. Hope that helps:)
@@prissNcurlss Thanks..yeah Ive had that before..but now I deal with dry looking hair....and I say that because I dc every week and sit under hooded dryer for 30mins so it can penetrate...my hair is not dry dry....but it appears alot more drier than it actually is..never a shine just a dull 4c look....Now I suppose U might need to go back to my camille rose twisting jai butter....But its so expensive..This dryness is real...I have to retwist in the middle of the week cause no definition left
Yes, it is one of the worst things that you can do to your hair! I have to constantly tell my clients to never leave their conditioners in and always make sure it is completely washed out.
Chiiii... I done heard about that moisture overload! Either it's never happened to me because I'm down to FLO low porosity 😂 or I just never notice but EVERY time I go to give away my Aphogee products because I think I'll never need them, something tells me to just "keep them in the back" 😂 Them thangs is NOT cheap just like you said lol
Tbh anything with protein stops it for me. This happened to me just two weeks ago. I went straight for anything i had with protein to stop the spongy feel. Never leave deep conditioner overnight because that is exactly what i did. Henna treatment or rice water should work too.
Kimberly Cherrell i am also very low Po, but when you have ‘hygral fatigue’ i believe its called not sure, but this is the one scenario your hair will instantly respond to protein.
Maybe because they don't give their hair enough moisture and it's always so dry. Protein and Moisture balance is so important. Anything out of whack and your hair will be a disaster.
It definitely exists but being a natural you don't really have to worry too much about moisture overload because your hair is craving moisture most of the time
Girl!! I don’t remember the last time I did a protein treatment 🙈 (I’m low porosity too) but it may be time for one cause my hair feels limp. But I struggle with dryness so I’m still trying to pump moisture into it 😩😩
you might not even need it, I have have low p hair and when I read the ingredients of my shampoos, conditioners, leave in etc the majority of them had protein in it. If your using them on a timely basis you might be experiencing dryness from too much protein. I need to get some protein free products!!! :[
@@NanaNaima1 she's right, you may not. For myself I didn't have anything with protein for a long time. Absolutely none of my products. I started seeing a difference in the elasticity of my curls when I included it in moderation. In using the 2 step for years now, I have ALWAYS had to follow up with a moisture only deep conditioner afterwards to rebalance my hair. Regardless, its legit the sh!+ lol
Yesssss I’m so glad you shared this. This has happened to me before from too much deep conditioning but mine was worse than yours. I had some pieces that looked nearly straight even though I have never applied heat to my natural hair. That aphogee 2 step is AMAZING. I use it every 2 months or my curls will start looking limp and wimpy
My hair was paper thin and now I'm feeding it protein with the green tea and I never thought I would see any thickness in life but huuuuuunnnnny! My hair must've been thirsty for it because it pumped up instantly! Definitely a staple... Aphogee is so bomb!
I had no idea what had been going on for the past couple months with my hair. My tight curls slowly became waves and it felt like no amount of styling product would fix it. Then, I came across this video and immediately went and bought the ORS hair mayonnaise. After rinsing and styling, my hair looked exactly like it did months ago! Thank you for the video, it was very informative :)
Woah. Apoghee BUMPED UP those prices omg 😩 i swear it was $10 the other day. lol i had this same issue last month. i get scared to use protein sometimes as well as a low po girl but it’s necessary !
I thought I was the only that notice the increase in price. I paid $26 on Amazon for the big bottle cause the smaller bottle doesn’t coat my entire big ol’ head😪
I’m one of those low porosity girls who loves protein I always balance it out with moisture!I put my two step in a spray bottle as well much easier application
This happened to me a few years back . Too soft and mushy , wouldn’t hold any style 😩😩 . I had no idea it was even possible . Once I realized it was needing protein I incorporate it once a month and have never had it happen again lol
Thank you for the realness you always show on your videos but allowing us to see this. I def had my run in with too much moisture or not enough protein. Balance is most definitely key! Love you Kim ♥️
Gotta love the magic of a good protein treatment. I love using the Aphogee 2 minute one and their reconstruction spray after washing since I blow dry my hair regularly. And thank you for showing that even the best get moisture overload, I don't think enough folks talk about it.
See this is why you're my favorite natural hair UA-camr. Because you show us the mistakes we can make and take us through it. Unlike a lot of UA-camrs who only show us the goodness of their hair routine. And never the bad things that can happen.
I slept in my DC (on accident) woke up CRYINNNNNNN, cause I had moisture overload. ORS hair mayonnaise did it for me! Just treat it like a DC and you’re good.
Yaaaaas #bouncebackStrong This happened to me in 2018, limp, squishy hair. I had a feeling it was moisture overload..all my dc's had moisture..some had silk protein, but it didn't do much. I used the dc from profectiv, instant bounce back 😁🎉
I'm glad it worked for you Kim, girl! I'm low porosity too and I try to incorporate a protein deep conditioner (not a hardcore protein treatment) once a month or as needed to make sure my hair stays balanced
Kimberly Cherrell it may have needed a bit more since you just straightened it, mine does that too lol I normally need to clarify and use a protein treatment after straightening for my hair to fully return to its usual self 😂
@@TakiraThompson Yup I use a protein deep conditioner then moisture deep conditioner before I'm gonna blow dry my hair and two sessions after. But normally one wash session is with moisture deep conditioner and the next one with a balanced moisture and strengthening deep conditioner. I've never had to use the big dawgs like Aphogee
I’m going through the same thing RN. My hair changed. Broke off. I was pulling clumps of hair out every time I ran my fingers through. Hair was clumping together. Just horrible. I’m about to do a protein treatment now. And see how this helps
I’ve actually deep conditioned over night several times but I’ve never experienced my hair being too soft. My hair loves over night deep condition. ❤️ glad you got your hair back where you wanted it
I didn’t even realize over moisturizing was a thing , I’m low porosity as well but at least I know what to do if I ever need to face the protein monster, great video as usual . 💕
Sooooo ironic KILLA KIM!!! Because, I’ll be doing and filming my very first protein treatment tonight. Not because my hair feels too soft. But, because although the front of my hair is a looser curl pattern than the back, I feel like I’ve lost some elasticity. Then it dawned on my I have NEVER had a protein treatment since I’ve been completely natural (Jan 2015). So I’m gonna give it a try tonight. Sooooo glad your curls are back to normal hun!
Girl...you saved me bc I didnt even know what that was until I watch you. I am new to the game & my daughter is all natural as well. I trim her hair thinking it was dead ends. My hair was doing the same way. I stay away from protein, I do it once in a blue moon. Now, I am going to Sally's for a protein treatments and masks. Thank you!!!
You’re welcome!!! I completely understand bc i almost cut mine but i decided to try first and thank goodness I did. I hope it works out for you. Remember it will take time
Im low porosity & I had an issue was PROTEIN OVERLOAD . I use to do this treatment every few months but it was TOO much for my hair being that ALL my products contained protein already. Now I just use the JBCO deep treatment masque or the Mielle Organics Babassu & Mint protein/moisture replenisher every week or two . Great video! ❤😊❤
Elita McKever Summers i tried the mask on my hair & that helped it, but a stylist recommended clarifying my hair every two weeks & stay away from products with a lot of protein in it.
@@candicerenee94 I had to stop using my ALL PRODUCTS THAT CONTAINED PROTEIN (look for the word protein, keratin, silk, collagen, & oat flour) . I don't use many products so it was easy to do. I used the Shea moisture shea butter moisture retention shampoo & conditioner along with the masque in the line and my hair felt 10x better immediately afterwards (after deep conditioning with heat for an hour). It was AMAZING. I did that ever wash day for 3 weeks and re introduced my mane choice shampoo easy on the curls shampoo & 3in1 conditioner & I switch between a protein deep conditioner & a moisture deep conditioner in order to maintain the balance. I know you're scared but it'll be okay sis!! Good luck ! ❤😊❤
I needed this video...I've been trying to figure out what was wrong with my hair for the LONGEST. My hair used to be dense and now it is super airy and light....I now realized that could be due to moisture overload and lack of protein...thank you for sharing! I need my hair back ASAP
Long winded comment: I'm happy that you got your hair back. Hair does not need overnight treatments of any kind. I fell asleep with a moisture and protein balanced deep treatment in my hair overnight and it stretched my curls. Loss cause; I thank God that my hair grows a little faster than average. Once, I left conditioner in my hair overnight which softened my hair too much, I corrected with protein as you. We (I'm included) are doing so much with the hair today, so many products. My generation born in the early 60's, we used regular shampoo & conditioner in our hair. We didn't use leave in products, no deep moisturizing or protein treatments. We moisturized using water and grease only. We didn't experience the problems that folks are experiencing in this generation. We followed directions on the products and never had moisture overload. We had a head full of healthy and moisturized hair, curls never changed, no single strand knots because hair was always in stretched state. We didn't know we could wear our hair down in its natural curly state, that's probably why we didn't have knots. I finally started getting my hair pressed at 12 years of age. My mom used Dax pressing grease only. Pressing comb on fresh washed hair only, but not every wash session. We never had heat damage. Curls came right back as soon as water touched it. Then at the age of 18 I got my 1st relaxer, that's when we started using deep moisturizing and protein treatments, it was necessary after changing the structure of the hair. We have to really think about what is and how much of products is needed. Something to think about.
If we didn't have all these problems and or hair was so perfect, then why were we using relaxers, hot combs, jheri curls, weaves, wigs, braids, and all these other things to hide our natural hair? 🤔
@@BklynBabe Thanks for the comment. It's not about perfect hair, the only perfection is in heaven my dear. I was just pointing out that as a natural myself that the way we took care of our hair back in the day, we didn't experience heat damage, moisture overload, single strand knots, or dry hair, using minimal products and using them as stated on the package. And if someone back then did experience these issues they weren't taking care of their hair. Whether your hair is natural or chemically altered, it doesn't take a whole lot of products or over using products too take care of hair. Less is more.
@@catherinebutler3003 less isn't always more just like my sis saying quality over quantity (isnt always true) and like the first commentersaid "if our hair was so well off before, why were we always hiding it or altering it with relaxers, straightening combs and weaves".... the extra moisture, the deep conditioning, and PROPERLY DETANGLING ON WET HAIR ( something no one knew of and some people still don't know 🤦🏾♀️) is what's making our hair beautiful to the point where people with naturally straight hair are craving the natural look and not the other way around.... literally that time that you're talkin about, the only detangling anyone knew of was using a pick on dry hair to make an afro.... that hair wasn't healthy, and long hair does not equal health btw..
Yes! That product has saved my hair! I always do the treatment before I straighten my hair as well. I also do it about 6 weeks after I straighten it. I only silk press my hair 1-2 times a year so the protein treatment doesn’t give me too much protein for my low porosity hair.
So glad you were able to figure out what your hair needed. This happened to me a few months ago. Used that aPHogee treatment and BAM! Curls were byke to normal. Adding protein treatments to my hair regimen every 3-4 months from here on out 🙌🏾
This happened to me a week ago (I‘m low porosity as well). I had moisture overload and my hair was soooo mushy & extremely soft, but like not in a healthy way. I did a DIY protein treatment AND IT HELPED ME SO MUCH. Glad you got your hair back as well queen!!
Also if you want a more inexpensive option try the rice water rinse and if you let it sit for more then a day use peppermint oil or whatever essential oil you like to mask the smell and let it sit for 10-20 mins in your hair before or after you shampoo. I used as a pre-poo so far and it does help strengthen the hair.
I did the curlific texture treatment because I thought this one would be too strong (my hair isn’t damaged) and my hair was so bad it was dry and stringy, so I started adding just a little of it to my dc and I add honey that’s how I do it on my low porosity virgin hair twice or three times a year, some times just once.
I've been through this, I didn't use the 2 step tho. 🎶Lemme see ya one two step, I love it when ya one two step, everybody one two step🎶 We about to get it on 🎶 That song jus popped into my head. I used a protein treatment
I’m glad that you were able to restore your back to how it’s supposed to feel. My stylist gave me a protein treatment almost 5 months ago. She said that me using products that contained protein was a good thing. Your video does have me thinking I should schedule another treatment though.
I hate when people say don't ask me a question before you Google it....i wonder how we survived with out Google back in the 90s or 80s. Just answer people without getting smart.....
😐 Well considering Google was out before UA-cam it still would benefit you to ask Google. Because she doesn't have to answer the questions. You must be one of the people she was referring to.
I mix the Aphogee treatment in my regular deep conditioner. I add a few tablespoons in there and apply as I would a regular mask. No mess, no stickiness. I found it still works the same. Thank me later.
Kim! Boo!! So sorry you were freaking out! Thank Jesus for Jae :) I'm a rice water girl myself. I'm low porosity too, but every now and then I do a four times a month rice water and then take a break for a month.
Omg.... my hair looks like this. I thought it was just busted but don’t tell me it’s PROTEIN that I need. I’ve recently “transitioned” to wearing my hair natural 90% of the time rather than straightening it so my hair has never been this moisturized- EVER. Lol I think balancing it out with some protein is exactly what it needs 😭
I rotate my moisture and protein deep conditioner week to week. It really is clutch. I’m also low porosity also. And I no longer co-wash I just always pre poo. It has been a game changer for me.
Thank god I found this!! My hair was literally breaking off from the root😭I thought it was something more serious than moisture overload. Usually I use regular conditioners to deep condition but I decided to try masks lately. After using it I just thought my hair was moisturized by how soft it was... until I started styling my hair. Not sure why I kept adding more moisture over the weeks like an idiot, but at least I finally came across this. Google had me thinking I had a condition that the doctor needed to solve🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
When I need a protein treatment I have no curl my definition is zero and it looks like I have a 4b curl pattern when I’m mostly 4a. I hate hair typing but I’m using it to describe how my hair looks. Giovanni deeper moisture does this to my also when I leave it in over night. Also I’m low porosity too. I hate my hair sometimes I wish I had normal porosity.
Did you find it bounce back once you started using protein treatments more often? I straighten my hair only like once a year (last time was Nov), but lately the back of my hair toward the bottom has been super tangled and stringy. And the roots/middle of the strands look straight & it curls more at the end. Super frustrating. And I know it’s not heat damage because it was fine after I straightened it😭
Samantha Espinal I currently just started using oplex products for protein cause every time I use heat my front gets worse. I only straighten my hair once a year as well.
This from the King James Version: And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. - 1 Corinthians 9:25 KJV Actually it means this: 'Moderation in All Things'. The Bible 'preaches' and supports BALANCE in all things throughout scripture. Wish you would showed us the FINAL product but just wanted to say, it's true High porosity sisters (like myself) need more regular Protein treatments but anyone can suffer from Protein Overload OR *Hygral Fatigue.*
I experienced moisture overload a few years ago and I did the protein treatment that you did and it worked. I have made sure since then to have deep conditioners with protein to keep the balance.
This was literally me 2 weeks ago. My hair was extremely soft and I didn’t know why. I just knew this was weird af and I haven’t did a protein treatment in years. Thanks Kim. I’m going to do a protein treatment tomorrow.
I'm currently experiencing some of what you did. My hair has been growing back after a slightly bad hair experience, but it has been too "elastic" and I experienced A LOT of shedding/breakage every time I would wash or style my hair. Currently watching videos on protein treatments, which brought me here :)
Mushy soft is the worst soft! I had mushy soft hair years ago & never knew about protein treatments. @ that time YT naturals were 100% deep conditioning & protein was very rarely even mentioned. I am low porosity too but I have utilize protein treatments for YEARS after suffering moisture overload. It's all about balance! Changed the game for me. Glad you found a resolution.
Girl when i tell you this video SAVED my low porosity hair. Went out and bought an aphogee keratin 2 step treatment. Curls bounced right back #thankyou
YES!! i’m am experiencing this very same thing now... and i also have low porosity hair... i did a wash n go and it’s literally strings on the sides of my hair right now and i’ve been saying to myself that my hair has been super duper soft... more than normal...i haven’t had heat in my hair for at least 6 months... so this has to be my problem... thanks so much for sharing💗
I’m almost positive I’ve experienced this and DIDNT know I needed a protein treatment! Lawd I shoulda known! Definitely going to pick both of these products up to have on hand!
Yasss!! Notification Gang!!! I literally sat here geeked waiting on the countdown to finish!! Love you! This video is dope!!!! You have inspired me to start my own natural hair vlog!! You’re so inspiring!!! Curls and love girl❤️
With all these new products, it’s good to see older products are still doing the trick. My stylist back in the 90’s when I was in high school used to do Aphogee treatments on me when my hair was relaxed and it was like magic potion lol. She cut my hair into a short bob at the top of the school year because of damaged ends. By the end of the school year (which is really 9 months later) my hair was back pass my shoulders and thicker. Recently, my bestie who is natural had damage and stripping from a bad braiding experience. She said her stylist told her she needs to get protein treatments in between her moisture treatments. It did wonders for her hair. I was like I gotta try this myself but what would be a good protein treatment. I googled Aphogee and your page popped up. Good to see this product still works amazingly well, even on natural hair. Thank you so much for sharing this. Your hair is gorgeous!!!
I just have some products in rotation with protein in them so I don’t have to do a protein treatment. I did it one time before putting in braids and I don’t want to do it again. It’s just too much work as I don’t have a hooded dryer and I had to stand there and dry my hair with a blow dryer. 😒 The coconut and hibiscus by Shea moisture has protein so I use it occasionally. I also love the Miele Organics Babassu and Mint deep conditioner. It smells so good and the smell stayed in my hair for days after. I didn’t mind because I love it. 🥰
I literally just used a sample of this last week and it brought my hair back to LIFE ! I’ve been having a hard time finding products to penetrate and keep my hair moisturized . After using this my hair finally felt moisturized and good . I’ve also been watching your videos to find the right products a lot of trial and error but I am getting there.
Your hair came back!! 🙌🏾❤️ I just bought that same protein treatment a few weeks but I haven’t tried it yet. But when I’ve had them done by my stylist before in the past and it always made my hair so shiny, healthy and pretty!!
Stop playing, you know heat styling even if you don't get damage it still loosens the curl pattern slightly, and if it's not the heat itself then it's the products the stylist used in your hair as well
Missesunderstood exactly! what I was thinking, I flat iron my hair at safe temperature and my curl over time my curls have slightly loosed too, moisture over load I think Not....light heat damage frfr🧐🧐
Aquarian Goddess certain part of her hair looks loose TO ME watch her older video from last two months, and she flat iron her hair about 6months ago, this plus the last flat iron cause a little damage it not that bad so relax
Moisture overload ain't no joke girl. A protein treatment will always balance out your hair. The only time protein is not the answer is when you have too much protein in your hair and then moisture is the answer to balancing your hair. I use protein every two weeks because i use a lot of moisturizing products in my hair.
Okay these curls are poppin 😍😍😍😍I love how the protein made them nice and bouncy and so pretty I’m not sure about my porosity in my hair I would have to check but i will be trying out the protein treatment
Protein is the goat. My hair is medium porosity, which people think is so easy but the downside is that my hair can go either way really fast if I don’t play my cards right with deep treating my hair 😭 Thankfully I’ve done a good job of listening to my hair though. But yeah my hair was bordering on too soft the other day so I used the new Camille Rose protein treatment and my hair is super happy. I always go my by the rule that if I can’t feel the texture of my hair then something is wrong!
im low porosity but my hair likes protien. i never had no problem using protein in my hair so far thank god. im going to actually do this same protein treatment
Yeessssss also low porosity (extremely), also use Aphogee 2 step about once every 10 weeks. Once a month I do use a deep conditioner with a little protein to keep it balanced. Learned this after experiencing limp curls as well a few years back.
Me as you have similar curls mine are just a little tighter and we both are low porosity. I straighten my hair about twice a year and every time I go back to curly my curls look a little different like weird. I noticed it takes time for the curls to bounce back to 100%. For me it’s typically 2 weeks. Cause I only wash once a week. So after those two washes and that time in between my curls are 100%. No damage no nothing. I just think sometimes it takes time for the curls to bounce back
Lawd, this is all so much haha I'm natural again, but I purposefully chose to not manage my own hair at first because the last time I did...let me just say there was a reason I was single. Then my butt decided to move cities and now I'm officially doing my own hair full time. Thank God my bf is supportive (oblivious) so he doesn't see how bad I am at this! These videos are definitely going to help me in my journey! I was at the point of considering going to school just so I could separate the hair BS from the truth!
You know you can incorporate protein in what you eat and have amazing results on a regular basis which is something we should do anyways.. but I’m like a sponge 🧽 I soak up all information on a just because. I don’t care what anyone says using ammonia in hair dyes and bleaching our hair as well as excessive heat.. does changes to our natural curl pattern. I know because I’ve bleached my hair blonde and over time my what use to be Kinky coils that wearing my Afro was effortless. My hair became limp and I lost my natural curl pattern. After 11 months Natural had to big chop in order to get my Kinky coils back rite which I love to wear my Afro from time to time😉😉 I have not did a protein treatment yet but did use apogee when relax and love it back then but I eat plenty of protein daily so I’m good 💕👍🏾
Adding a lot of oil and using conditioner frequently can both breakdown proteins in your hair. My hair started breaking off due to over using oils. Healthy hair growth and retention boils down to balance. A balance between moisture and protein. When you find your balance your routine becomes so easy. Every conditioner, gel and shampoo that i use has a form of protein in it. I also do a protein treatment every 8-12 weeks. Used to do them every 6-8weeks.
I like protein on my lo po hair. My hair is naturally soft so I try my best to incorporate protein. Luckily I use henna glosses and full henna treatments when needed! A little protein ain’t never hurt nobody. Best of luck to you!
Yes my hair is extra soft also going through a transition! I have the same products, so I will use those same products on my next wash😄thank you for sharing
i always wanted to try that protein treatment even though i’m low porosity but i seen some people saying it was too powerful so i was like nah i’m good but i definitely gotta try now
Thanks for this video. Your hair looks great...and you look happy :0) Last month, I committed to doing a protein treatment once a month. In just two months, using the Aphogee 2-step treatment, I have seen waaay less shedding, stronger hair and less split ends/single strand knots. I'm not 100% sure about my porosity (low per the hair in water test about 2 years ago), density and all that, but I know Aphogee works for me! After next month, I'll use a lighter/milder product and then, maybe every 3 months use Aphogee - gotta see how my hair feels/responds.
Try only leaving your deep conditioner in for the allotted time they say on the bottle. Overdoing it will result in moisture overload. Especially if done frequently. It’s just damaging your hair. I mean this with no shade and the utmost respect ✊🏽
Yes, i did go through this, my hair was soft and mushy, i think because i wasn't clarifying my hair, it got better once i started clarifying once a Month, i have never done a protein treatment, but i'm going to try it now!!
Yeah moisture overload is the devil. It’s so soft that it’s mushy and I had it SUPER bad mine took almost a year to recover. And I find it funny that “low porosity isn’t supposed to use a or of protein” but my hair LOVES protein
I JUST recently figured out that I had moisture overload. I was losing hair by the handfuls!! I constantly used moisturizing products and stayed away from protein. Well, I found out that I am high porosity and need it!! I used Aphogee Curlific texture treatment which helped the texture, but I was still losing tons of hair! Finally I got the Mane Choice healthy hair boosting kit, and baaaaabyyyy!!! I used it ONCE and BAM!!! My hair INSTANTLY stopped shedding!!!! REALLY!!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
So Glad your hair came back to Life! I've been wanting to do that Protein treatment but have been scared but after seeing how well it worked for you. I'm going to Sally's this weekend. ❤💃🏾❤
I have low porosity hair also...BUT, when I have dye in my hair it relaxes the porosity, and I can use any leave in conditioners as much as I want. I recently cut off all of my dyed hair down to the new growth. My hair without dye can't handle leave in conditioners, since they tend to have more proteins. The excess protein makes my hair STIFF. So, I just purchased a bunch of hair milks to use in place of the leave in conditioners, they tend to have less protein. I use the Deva Curl Deep Sea Repair deep conditioner which is high in protein, every 4th wash day. The other 3 weeks I use moisture based deep conditioners opposed to the ones with protein.
After watching this and reading the comments I really want to do a protein treatment. I haven't intentionally used protein in 20 years because the couple of times that I did my hair broke off in a lot of long chunks. I tried a fruit protein treatment a couple weeks ago but it did absolutely nothing, maybe it wasn't enough, but I'm scared of my hair falling out again. Back then though I used to chemically straighten and did not at all take care of my hair, now I've been on a mostly natural better hair care journey for 5 years, it's been a slow progress through.

I ain’t giving it away ever again 🙅🏾♀️ lol
Tbh anything with protein stops it for me. This happened to me just two weeks ago. I went straight for anything i had with protein to stop the spongy feel. Never leave deep conditioner overnight because that is exactly what i did. Henna treatment or rice water should work too.
Kimberly Cherrell i am also very low Po, but when you have ‘hygral fatigue’ i believe its called not sure, but this is the one scenario your hair will instantly respond to protein.
i talked about moisture overload to people. they said they didnt exist. i got proof now
Alexandra Culberson 😂😂😂
Maybe because they don't give their hair enough moisture and it's always so dry. Protein and Moisture balance is so important. Anything out of whack and your hair will be a disaster.
It definitely exists but being a natural you don't really have to worry too much about moisture overload because your hair is craving moisture most of the time
Sameeee omgg. Noone wants to believe it until it happens to them. Smh
Honestly it’s a real thing. I’m suffering with this right now 😩 so glad I came across this video
I just did a protein treatment the other day and baaaaaaabbbby my hair was praising the lord lol.
🤣🤣🤣
Girl!! I don’t remember the last time I did a protein treatment 🙈 (I’m low porosity too) but it may be time for one cause my hair feels limp. But I struggle with dryness so I’m still trying to pump moisture into it 😩😩
Protein treatment and then moisture.
you might not even need it, I have have low p hair and when I read the ingredients of my shampoos, conditioners, leave in etc the majority of them had protein in it.
Try the Miele organics mint oil deep conditioner, it’s both a protein and moisture deep treatment and it work great
Porcha 😘😘😘 heeeeyyyyy
Yes girl
What do you do with the green tea?
I had no idea what had been going on for the past couple months with my hair. My tight curls slowly became waves and it felt like no amount of styling product would fix it. Then, I came across this video and immediately went and bought the ORS hair mayonnaise. After rinsing and styling, my hair looked exactly like it did months ago! Thank you for the video, it was very informative :)
Woah. Apoghee BUMPED UP those prices omg 😩 i swear it was $10 the other day. lol i had this same issue last month. i get scared to use protein sometimes as well as a low po girl but it’s necessary !
All this youtube promotion!
I thought I was the only that notice the increase in price. I paid $26 on Amazon for the big bottle cause the smaller bottle doesn’t coat my entire big ol’ head😪

Long winded comment:
I'm happy that you got your hair back.

Glad you got your hair back as well queen!!
YESSS thats how my hair felt. Like a plum hot mess. i mean it was soft but that aint the soft you want AT ALL
What did you use to get that much moisture??? I'm low priority and my hair is always dry

This from the King James Version: And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. - 1 Corinthians 9:25 KJV
Actually it means this: 'Moderation in All Things'. The Bible 'preaches' and supports BALANCE in all things throughout scripture.

Could you post a before and after of your hair when it was wet w/ no product of the overload and back at its normal state?
She doesn’t want to blame the stylist because they are friends 🧐🧐🧐🤨
She doesn't have heat damage, don't u 👀 her curls r back & healthy ?!? Geez SMH 🤦♀️

Lmao of course you guy would blame heat. It's not the first time she applied heat to her hair.
Moisture overload ain't no joke girl. A protein treatment will always balance out your hair. The only time protein is not the answer is when you have too much protein in your hair and then moisture is the answer to balancing your hair. I use protein every two weeks because i use a lot of moisturizing products in my hair.
Okay these curls are poppin 😍😍😍😍I love how the protein made them nice and bouncy and so pretty
I’m not sure about my porosity in my hair I would have to check but i will be trying out the protein treatment
Yes it made them look sooooo good! I am still shook
It’s probably some slight heat damage too girl . Just to be safe you can’t rule that out .
Lol it’s not my hair is better now than when i went. Go back to old videos and see for yourself 🤷🏾♀️
After 11 months Natural had to big chop in order to get my Kinky coils back rite which I love to wear my Afro from time to time😉😉 I have not did a protein treatment yet but did use apogee when relax and love it back then but I eat plenty of protein daily so I’m good

Thank you for not speeding this process up
Yes my hair is extra soft also going through a transition! I have the same products, so I will use those same products on my next wash😄thank you for sharing
i always wanted to try that protein treatment even though i’m low porosity but i seen some people saying it was too powerful so i was like nah i’m good but i definitely gotta try now
wow am impressed your hair came back to life!! Glad you figured it out so i know what to do if it ever happens😀
Thanks for this video. Your hair looks great...and you look happy :0)
Last month, I committed to doing a protein treatment once a month.
I’m low porosity and I do protein treatment once a month! My hair loves and appreciate it
Try only leaving your deep conditioner in for the allotted time they say on the bottle. Overdoing it will result in moisture overload. Especially if done frequently. It’s just damaging your hair. I mean this with no shade and the utmost respect ✊🏽
Lol watch a few more videos boo... i know that i was just being lazy since I’m human or whatever
Girl yes! It was an emergency and Aphogee CAME THROUGH
I have low porosity hair also...BUT, when I have dye in my hair it relaxes the porosity, and I can use any leave in conditioners as much as I want.
I do low to moderate strength protein treatments once a month and love them. Tho that aphogee is bomb and always will be the goat.
