Apu was a very nice character. Nobody asian or indian disliked him. Only americans who were too sensitive had any issues.
@Tony D. Indians or indian-americans?
People who shit in the street were offended
@@NeoLotex Hari Kondabolu. An American born in New York City.
@@ElliotKeaton Saw the documentary. It came off as a bunch of failed comedians complaining about a character that's funnier than them using their own schtick.
@@kirishima638 But *who* are these offended people?
The documentary and interviews don't back that up, quite frankly. If I understand correctly?
I would have never guessed Fry was named after Phil Hartman. That's so heartwarming. Well done Groening.
Beggy
@@bobbybobstar1496 Sorry mate, I'm not fluent in abstract.
Even outside of The Simpsons I really miss Phil Hartman
i grew up loving SNL during the late 80s and early 90s. Phil Hartman was the every man, that could be in every sketch. He was my favorite on SNL because of his versatility. I imagine, if he didn't tragically die, he would have gone on to so many more beloved roles across tv throughout the 00's
Me too
I agree he was a great actor.
Breaks my heart every time I see anything mentioning him
Amen, brother.
Lionel Hutz was easily my favorite character. It also helped that the writers were Harvard Law alumni and knew exactly how to craft a dimwitted, but realistic lawyer.
Facts.
Rabbi Krustoffsky, Krusty's dad, is another one. Jackie Mason, who voiced him, died in 2021.
Don't forget bleeding gums Murphy and dr marvin Monroe
:(
They've highlighted the history with Skinner in call back jokes before. Lisa once referred to Skinner as "Principal Tamzarian" during an argument.
When she found a new Snowball II.
Snowball V, actually.
Naming fry after Phil makes the moment Yancy names his son after his brother, who he misses very much to carry on his spirit even sadder and I didn't think that was possible
Apu tops the list. The show owes part of its success to the character. Ridiculous that hurt feelings led to his exit. Herb Powell really needs to make a return for at least an episode. I'd like to see him have a kid or something that could interact with the family.
South Park creators would have laughed at the people who got offended, called them pussies and continued on with the character because they have every right too. Again woke motherfuckers ruining things yet again, Apu was an awesome hilarious character
They got rid of stale, outdated charcters because the actors didn't want to do the voices anymore. The only reason you're associating it with woke culture is because some news pundent told you to. But hey, why don't you go whine about it some more?
They really could, perfect idea.... Have him come back for LOVE advice, and end up dating, and marrying Lurleen a total homerphile.
With his business talent, and her musical talent.. They would be a match made in heaven.
@@shoeboxbistro do you have any proof of that or no, if not shut up
@@shoeboxbistro Apu's reasons for being written out of the show are very clear. It obviously wasn't just the actor not wanting to do it anymore
Flanders: "*sigh* I miss her.
Nelson: HA HA! .... I miss her too.
That scene made me sad when it first came out. Watched it again and it still makes me sad.
I have to ask, who’s going to be Bart’s new teacher?
Ned really can't catch a break, first Maude, then Edna
No wonder he became so obsessed about raising his sons
God's master plan?
@@jeffreym.8957 god seems to love making Ned miserable
Flanders curse
@@MrOrcshaman he’s like Spider-Man or Batman.
Hank Scorpio is the greatest guest character of all time.
And Freddie Prinze Jr played his antithesis on Psych 😄
Yes, he's #1.
Also, great were Dustin Hoffman as the substitute teacher, Mr. Bergstrom, Harvey Fierstein as Karl, Patrick Stewart in the Stonecutters and playing themselves? David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson from the X-Files.
I actually wish they brought him back for the Simpsons movie. They brought the actor back. Al Brooks was in the movie. Why didn’t they just make him Hank Scorpio?
I am impressed with your ability to say Apu's last name several times without breaking or tripping on it.
Chris Hemsworth pronounced Nidavellir wrong so many times that 2 of them ended up in the final cut of the movie, but you make Apu's name sound easy.
Says Edna's surname wrong somehow though haha
So what you're saying is that there's still a chance Poochie may come back.
Don't forget to recycle....TO THE EXTREME!!!
We see him sometimes
No.
If you said Poochie would be on the list, then you were wrong! He was never classic!
@@Robert___98 lol
Edna, Apu, Hutz and McClure will certainly be missed.
Those few years of the Simpsons were so brilliant, hilarious and memorable. Haven't watched the newer season. Maybe I'll get back into it
New ones are good again
I try to watch watch one episode every season. I have yet to see one that was as good as classic Simpsons. I havent watched one this season yet. They seem to continuously waste set-ups and go the easy route on gags. The peloton episode was the last new one I saw.
Don't the new ones suck anus man
@@doro626 man I haven't watched a new one since season 20 that was it for me. Mind you I dont really like anything after the 13 season started getting really stale.
dont bother they are mediocre at best e_e
It’s such a damn shame that Apu was written off the show. Such a great character and much more than a catchphrase. Playing into everyone’s sensitivities is irritating.
Why don't you whine about it some more?
@@shoeboxbistro because I’m really whining so much in this reply? 🙄
I’d like to know what happened to Laura Powers. Her mother remains a consistent background character, easily spotted by her red hair scarf, but her daughter seems to have faded into oblivion from everyone’s memory. I get that she would only be a background character, but she (along with most of Barts love interests) simply fade away from the world.
Troy McLure and Lionel Hutz are definitely the characters I would love to see back. The Simpsons was never the same after Phil Hartman's passing.
The penalty for mentioning the Skinner affair is torture, not death.
Not just torture...TORT-TURE.
Yet Lisa did mention it once, when Snowball II died, and after a while she got new cat that looked like Snowball II
Lisa: you're snowball V, but to save money on a new dish, we'll just call you snowball II, and pretend this whole thing never happened.
Skinner: That's really a cheat, isn't it?
Lisa: I guess it is, Principal Tamzarian.
Skinner: I'll just be moving along, Lisa, snowball II.
In that case, how has Lisa apparently escaped the penalty?
When phil Hartman died the Simpsons started to lose it’s magic😞
If you think of the Principal and the Pauper as a non horror Halloween episode, then it is not so upsetting.
I still miss Phil Hartman even after all these years I don’t think I ever mourned a celebrity’s death outside of his; even watching futurama is hard because you can tell Zap braningan was supposed to be voiced by Phil
Is Zap still around?
Edna died, so how was Maude Flanders the last one mentioned to die? I mean they even use the scene with Ned wearing a black armband, which is done as a sign of grieving.
I'm guessing that at some point the order of the list was different, with Maude coming after Edna.
Maude the character died, Edna's actress died, the character just moved away
@@IsaacCousins Why would she move away? Why would he wear a black armband(I sign of mourning traditionally) if she moved away?
Off screen
I had the biggest crush on Maude, the episode she dies and always hits me in the feels
Hate the episode***
Now I miss Phil Hartman. Thanks for reminding me and making me sad
10:26 A character really similar to Troy was also Good Old Gill. He was a hard-working entrepreneur who always failed miserably at his job, but who still kept pursuing new careers with moderate success (little like Donald Duck). Sadly he was never seen outside of the Simpsons comics, which is a pity. He would've made for an excellent recurring comic relief character who was both hilarious in his countless career exploits, and a deeply relatable person, teaching us to never give up on hope, because we never know what the fate has in store for us in our own lives.😉👍
Apu was NOT disliked by the asian demographic, seeing how indian viewers praise him for being a great character.
I’d like to see Herb Powell again
Hey you forgot about that Karl from homer and Delilah where he didn't care what he looked ,karl probably was the only one with a heart of gold.
I never actually knew principal Skinner was removed from the show. That sucks.
Groening rhymes with "Raining"
in case you're not sure there is that art episode when Homer belts out "MATT GROENING (GRAINING)!?!?!?! HE CANT DRAW!!" as a giant pencil eraser hits Homers head "Oh no Im being erased!!" and then the twist, its just a prop in the art gallery
Bleeding Gums Murphy
I really miss Apu
Me too
Terrible shame he got cancelled
I do as well.
Blame wokeness
@@TheHmongol Hari ain't got a sense of humor...
Really? They backlash against Apu? No wonder the Big Bang Theory had diverse characters that sometimes said things "But I'm Jewish so I can say that" or Raj saying things like "When I say it is ok". People jerks and bullies will still be jerks and bullies no matter what, they will find something, they will not stop just because censor a character.
I'm so tired of this shit happening, people need to stop bullying and policing other people. Not one person I've met, not even my friend Muhammad was offended by Apu in fact Muhammad and his family loved Apu.
Apu is the reaspon why we will tragically never get a remake of Simpsons Hit and Run 😓
Didn't know Fry's first name was in honor to Hartman
Maud actually has made some Treehouse of Horror appearances well after her death
All I miss is Phil Hartman. Also, Apu was great and people just became 10 ply soft.
Lol
Apu is dead
Go cry about it some more
@@shoeboxbistro reeeeeee
They always listen to the worthless crybabies 🤮
"Simpsons characters you'll never see again!" also "Matt Groening has said they're looking for a new actor to play Apu and a way to bring him back onto the show." So, never say never I guess.
An interesting way to bring him back might be using his back ground of having a computer science degree. Maybe he gets bored with the daily grind of the Qwik E Mart and his wife encourages him to apply for a teaching position for a computer course at Springfield Community College.
Think they should just have white characters so there’s no more complaints
@@honestabe411 But Bart is still voiced by a woman, right? D'oh!
@@cheeseburger12 but she’s a scientologist so carte blanche in Hollywood

I actually giggled at the idea of Fit Tony. That's pretty good, tbh.
Technically, Apu is still on the show. But he & his family are usually in the background nowadays
Have his wife or Cookie Kwan had a speaking part on the show since Apu stopped? I didn't think there voices were replaced either.
The last time I recall seeing Apu was in Family guy
"A lot of the Simpsons Asian fans found understandable issues with the character"
No, 1 person got butthurt and made a fuss. I never heard anyone say they had a problem with the character (and really hadn't heard anyone say anything since) but one whiny baby making enough noise can bring entire corporations to their knees apparently.
They got rid of stale, outdated charcters because the actors didn't want to do the voices anymore. The only reason you're associating it with woke culture is because some news pundent told you to. But hey, why don't you go whine about it some more?
Here's the thing. It can be a stereotype but it's true. Apu has had a large story arc. Hes a fireman. He feeds his community. We watched him get married and have lots of kids. Yet many ethnic people sound just like him and work at 7-11's,mini Marts and bodegas EVERYWHERE. He's an entrepreneur trying to make his way in the world. He is in no way offense. He is treated warmly by the citizens of Springfield.
Why don't you whine about it some more?
@@shoeboxbistro have you considered suck starting a Corvette?
Apu even convinced Homer to change his stance on immigration and taught Lisa about respecting those with different opinions
The Simpsons is the perfect litmus test for how quickly our society has fallen.
Who won the 2020 Presidential election? (Now, *that* is a litmus test.)
@@obediahpolkinghorniii564 Me.
The only correct answer.
Yes, but...
was the collapse of The Simpsons a cause, an effect, or merely a symptom of the end of the American Experiment?
Discuss...
@@KaiserMattTygore927 Yup too bad a Dementia patient is in your house...
Lol I love how the Maude Flanders chapter is titled "Mort Flanders." Definitely some very British spoken communication going on behind the scenes.
Apu still appears in the back ground in episodes from time to time without lines, I noticed him in background not to long ago in current season, old Carl and Dr. Hibert was much better, Carl doesn't feel like Carl anymore
Yep you might as well as got rid of of dr herbert and carl
Why don't you whine about it some more?
It is an amazing idea having a villain be nice also lol - need more like that 😂.
Apu was a gem. You just can't offend anyone nowadays
Why don't you whine about it some more?
@@shoeboxbistro thanks for proving my point
@@shoeboxbistro We’re going to throw you down a flight of stairs for being a sensitive little wee-wee baby.
we miss you Edna and Apu, you'll never be truly gone for us true fans
I really miss both the characters as Bart said
“We will really miss you Mrs. k”
I miss Apu the most.
Man, I've stopped watching the Simpsons so long ago, that never knew that Edna Krabappel stopped appearing in the show.
I don't see Hank Azaria's voicing of Apu as racist. It was intentional and I even know a guy, who has Southern Asian heritage, who could do a DEAD-ON impression of Apu.
Plus, the person who said Azaria's portrayal was being racist, Whoopi Goldberg, was later found to have made some anti-Semitic remarks herself that got her booted off "The View" for several weeks.
Azaria is jewish, so... ouch.
I know, right?
I called Fox TV and told them a white man said Apu's portrayal wasn't racist and even knows "a guy, who has Southern Asian heritage" that says it isn't racist. They reversed their decision and are going make him the primary focus of the show from now on.
@@glumanteri He knows about prejudice... Plus his people will replace Christians...😋
@@MrsBeaumont I mean that's the same logic that got Apu removed so I'd believe it.
I hope Apu comes back.
What's f*cked up is Hank Azaria can no longer do Apu but Mindy Kaling can be Velma .......
Double standard and sucks because people love Apu and hate Kaling's Velma.
They got rid of stale, outdated charcters because the actors didn't want to do the voices anymore. The only reason you're associating it with woke culture is because some news pundent told you to. But hey, why don't you go whine about it some more?
@@shoeboxbistro no they didn't want to do it anymore Hari Kondabolu made the problem with APU and the woke mob came after Hank Azaria. But if they never came after him Hank would still be doing the character because of merchandising alone.
But I appreciate the virtue signaling take.
Cannot get over they way they pronounce Edna Crabapple
Or homer use to call her mrs Crandall
Apu was hilarious! Go into any gas station/quickie mart and tell me THAT isn’t who rings you up!🤨
You have a good point however that clerk might not be Indian/Indian American. They could be from Pakistan or Shri Lanka.
Go cry about it some more
Apu can still be seen in resent episodes but as a background character
"This is the last entry with a deceased character on the list"
_next entry is Ms Krabapple_
_facepalm_
Hahaha do the Apu. I had to start using that in my daily life
Homer at the Bat was my favourite Simpsons ever. Ken Griffey, Jr., Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens, Darryl Strawberry, etc.
No mention of these former Major League Baseball players on this video.
Hi, he's Troy McClure. You may remember him. :(
After The Serfsons, Apu got demoted to a background character...
Edna K. Best Simpsons Character Ever.
Definitely
We want apu back
Yeah, who on his right mind would want to be represented by a hard working and friendly store owner with a university degree, who also volunteers as a fireman and worked/studied very hard to remain in the land he loves without turning on his roots and beliefs.
He did cheat on his wife that one time, but otherwise yes, Apu is one of the few characters that's actually wholesome and not a complete sociopath.
@@markzuckergecko621 He also ate a lightbulb because he didn't check the list before doing it. Hey we all have flaws though.
@@thegoldfly1 well the lightbulb was previously soaked in toilet water so it was easier than it sounds... probably.
Doing all that while also working a full-time job and raising a family
Well, given that his entire family appears in the episode “Holidays Of Future Passed”, it seems pretty obvious that they eventually moved back to Springfield.
"Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You might remember me from such films as 'Today We Kill, Tomorrow We Die,' and 'Gladys, the Groovy Mule.'"
Im still sad about maude …
You forgot Bleeding Gums Murphy.
Frank Grimes although he only appeared in one episode.
Hank Scoprio O.G .from the early seasons. Alpu was a great character. Wokeness killed it off.
and EVERYONE remember that Hari Kodabolu removed an Indian from TV because he didn't get to play the role himself.
HE is responsible for the removal of Apu and any reference to his family, let that be his epitaph
They got rid of stale, outdated charcters because the actors didn't want to do the voices anymore. The only reason you're associating it with woke culture is because some news pundent told you to. But hey, why don't you go whine about it some more?
Leon Kompowsky - Played by Michael Jackson. Season 3, Episode 1. While Leon was in Flash backs and in one other season Episode. It was only one with Michael Jackson so the Character actually was Never seen again.
We really miss you Mrs K
I really miss her
Understandable issues? Unconscious harm? Do you need a safe space?

Wow! I heard that Troy's va died, but I didn't know it was a murder. He'll easily be the most missed in my book.
Lisa's teacher mr berstrom was the best
Thank you dustin hoffman
And russie taylor r.i.p. we want u back
Where's Bleeding Gums Murphy
The fantasy of a boss that genuinely cares about their employees is so popular everyone is willing to ignore the fact that he is an evil super villain.
4:33. I once saw a video of a UA-camr explain which state The Simpsons most likely takes place in & they said it was Oregon.
I always thought the joke was that nobody really knows where they are. It's supposed to be a sort of "every town", that's why they chose Springfield, because there's a Springfield in like 30 different states.
The running joke of the show, is that they keep adding hints that contradict the other hints. The movie has a joke about Springfield's state being bordered by Ohio, Nevada, Maine and Kentucky.
I'm pretty sure Groening's gone on record saying that despite being initially inspired by Oregon's Springfield, the town on the show has become "every Springfield" and serves as a stand in for "small town anywhere".
You Only Move Twice is my favorite episode.
Apu, is the only character I want back
I'd love to see a return of Apu but if they ruin him like they did with Dr Hibbert and Carl its probably better that Apu stays dead.
Go whine about it some more, snowflake
This show is now just cameos
Remembering how we lost Phil brought up the ol' pain water a little.
Which classic character do you wish you could see again?
Edna
Arnies shouts to Phil heartman put that cookie down
They caved in cancelling Apu.
I just hope that they announce their final season soon and give all the characters a grand send off. Maybe that would be an episode worth watching.
As of now they are good through 2025. I’m happy for them getting renewed but they should’ve ended years ago
We will be death before the Simpsons end. Basically 9 great seasons and the rest is a bunch of crap.
I think they will make it to Season 40. Then maybe call it a day? Who knows? Viewing figures are poor but fans still like it.
If Simpson's Hit & Run gets a remaster, I wonder if Apu would get removed from the game. I hope not.
Bleeding Gums Murphy! How could you possibly forget him?!?
Otherwise great video.
How on Earth did Seymour's mother not know from the start that was her own son?
she did know
Phill Hartman was the Simpsons for me… Remember watching the news coverage of his Death by his own Wife… Couldn’t believe it! RIP Phill and Troy! 😢
Give us back Apu!
Apu, and Edna 😢 Def grow up on them both!
Hard to argue this list
Truly the Simpsons will never be as great or entertaining without these characters, the show may not be of the same quality without them
Bruh straight forgot Homers Mom , a demon in the sack
When I grow up I wanna be a principal or a caterpillar
You tell 'em, Ralph !!!
Hello Super Nintendo chalmers
I only just started binging Simpsons but seeing that some of my favorite side characters like Edna and Seymour will be leaving is disappointing.
The Apu backlash was stupid as hell
