    Thanks for the vid. I have only had this line for about one week (two days fishing) So far I love it got the 8lb with a 4lb leader and it gets my favourite top lure (slippery dog) out further than anything else i have used so far.

    Try Berkley nautil it's new 2023 line and it won the eftex 2022 fishing competition on best new braid. It isn't overthick like Berkley x9 and X5.

    Thank you for these videos. They are very helpful. I would love to see one done on silk ocean line by ocean devil. It is not cheap and has the Dia to break strength that is very impressive. They have break test videos but would like to have an unbiased opinion.

      Appreciate you taking the time to reply! I looked at the Ocean Devil Instagram page and found their break testing videos. I took their claimed numbers on diameter and maximum break strength and converted them into Tensile strength and I have to say that they are extremely high, 2-3 times the best I have ever tested. Either some of their claims are off (my guess is diameter) or they have created the best line in the world by a long way. It would be fantastic to be able to get some to test.

      @@chuckrichards3501 Wow that would be amazing! To perform all the tests we need a minimum of 10 meters, a bit more if possible but honestly I will take anything I can get my hands on and do what I can. Shoot us a message at thelinelaboratory@gmail.com and we can chat more. Appreciate it man! 👍

    With the abrasion test shouldn’t you have compared it to the claimed breaking strain compared with the actual? Given that you’re thinking you have 8lb line. I am still wondering about my logic here…..🤓

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  9 місяців тому

      The claimed breaking strain - I assume you mean what's written on the box - is irrelevant. They can make up any number they like here so using that as a basis to compare any real figures against is pointless. The only comparison I do to that number is the actual breaking strain, just to show the difference. Beyond that I only compare real tested numbers.

      @thelinelaboratory  11 місяців тому +1

      Go to their website here: www.tasline.com.au/tasline-testing/ then about half way down the page there is a button "Check Test Results". That will redirect you to sharepoint where they have all the pdfs of the break tests, Each spool should have a number on it so check that number and match it up to the pdf.

    It is true that the manufacturer's notation is relatively accurate, but when comparing thickness and strength, do you think WFT or shimano Kaiki is better?

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  Рік тому

      Both are excellent based on my testing, but very different in construction. The Kairiki is more of a traditional braid and the Gliss is different all together. I haven't used the Kairiki as yet so I cant comment first had, but I am testing the Gliss on one of my setups but I have only used it for a few hours so I cant confidently say just yet. I have noticed that it seems to "kink" which is odd for a braid, but I put that down to it not actually being braided as such. Time will tell.

    the 8lb seems performed better than 80lb. Some heavy fishos not so lucky especially under shock load aka setting hook on a fish. It explodes in the middle of the lines. Or we were just the unlucky fishos with bad batch.

    I'm a new fisherman, I have been doing research on hardware and now I'm searching Line. I heard that Tasline is one of the leaders, thanks for putting up this video. I'm using a baitcaster, is there a line you would recommend me to check out? Thanks. I also heard that baitcaster is better with a heavier line (20lbs or more)?

    • @thelinelaboratory

      I think Tasline is excellent and have been using it on 3 of my setups for years in 8, 12 and 16lb. Very high quality and super supple. For bait casters I'm sorry I am not the right person to ask, I only fish spin.

      @@thelinelaboratory I wonder if you watch “Gido’s Fishing Adventures” on YT? He is a dude in WA who abseils down vertical cliffs to sleep in caves to fish in deep water near Albany. He is with the Tasline boss on a trip to NZ. Gido did a quick tour of the Tasline factory in Melbourne just the other day. The code Tasline puts on the backs of each spool is unique. So glad you pointed that out in your test. Check Gido out if you haven’t already. (I am guessing you love fishing. Lol)

    When your diameter measurements are around 200% more than stated I think your measuring is faulty.
    I want to see a micrometer figures.
    I'm thinking that this is how the manufacturers are measuring because my micrometer coincides closely with what's on the packaging.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  2 місяці тому

      Manufacturers should have significantly more advanced tools such as laser micrometers to check the diameter of their line as it rolls off the braiding machine. This is simple quality control. If they do this they will have accurate diameter measurements. My measurement technique is fully calibrated to a certified reference stage micrometer so I am very confident they are accurate. I measure mono lines in exactly the same way, and they line up almost exactly with the claimed diameters. Most manufacturers I have spoken to estimate their diameters based on theoretical numbers, so it's at best a guess.i believe micrometers are incredibly inaccurate for measuring braid as there is no way you can get it to touch the braid and not crush it, or you guess at what point it may touch. Neither are reliable. It's a different story for mono lines as they do not crush as easily, so a micrometer should be quite accurate.

    thanks for this test..always wondered about Tasline! i've heard people say they this line tends to fluff up after some use..could this be because it has no coating?

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  Рік тому

      I have had the same spool of 12lb and used it for years with no fluffing at all. Saying that I can see that it may be prone to fluffing as it has nothing to bind it together as you mentioned.

    You didn’t mention the exorbitant price of this stuff, it is gold plated obviously! 300m of 8lb is Au$89.95 I think. When the cost of the line approaches the cost of the reel then one must question whether that line is good value for money.

    • @ichista
      @ichista 5 місяців тому +1

      When you lose a dream fish because you went cheap line you'll understand and what reel are you using that you need 300m of 8lb most reels that take 8lb only need 150lb and that's 49aud

    I got 12.05 lbs for actual strength and 10.15 lbs for the FG knot strength and a "derived" line diameter of .167mm. ua-cam.com/video/OsTCKKYwR24/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/otY2SCOHLGY/v-deo.html Maybe give it more spacing instead of just the 1 inches on all your FG knot tests and allow the fiber in the braid more room to stretch out evenly. FG knot should not be this low percentage for any line below .250 mm. Give it 5-6 inches if you can. Mine is over 12 inches of spacing with larger bollard used. I also test 12, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80. I am curious about your results when you get a chance to test those. It's a fairly consistent line so your TS number should be the same across all tests of that line.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  Рік тому

      I believe I worked out the issue with why my FGs were less than expected. I was following the how-to guide that FGWizz released with their tool which you can see here : ua-cam.com/video/tsvNhABjulQ/v-deo.html if you check out around 58seconds in they do 2 hitches, one around the main line and one around the tag. I found that by doing a hitch around the main line the strength was reduced significantly which makes sense as that's where the stress is concentrated. Since stopping the knot in the mainline and doing 2 hitches around the tag the strength increased by like 20% or more. Live and learn.

    • @aquaholiklee
      @aquaholiklee Рік тому +1

      @@thelinelaboratory don't do the FG knot that way. That is not the way to finish the FG knot. Now it makes sense why your FG knots were so low in other tests. You can use the tool but after you do a minimum of 16 wraps on each side, release the braid from the tool and use tag end of braid to do half hitches over the main line and the mono leader. Do exactly one half hitches and then pull tight to set the knot. Now just do more 2-3 half hitches and do your knot test. Don't bother with a risotto finish. It's not needed for testing strength and it doesn't improve the strength. Do the salt strong method or even easier, the Patrick Sebile method. ua-cam.com/video/1N0mCf0AIAA/v-deo.html
      ua-cam.com/video/YY8YFj8mGS0/v-deo.html
      With as much line as you test, you should be able to do the FG knot in 90 seconds using no tool. 16 wraps on each side, one half hitch, pull tight, then two more half hitches and test the knot. The PR knot takes more practice to get it consistently 90% or above.

    • @aquaholiklee
      @aquaholiklee Рік тому +1

      @@thelinelaboratory Your FG knot for Tasline should be around 80% for every line strength except a little lower for the 80 lbs and higher for the smaller size.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  Рік тому +1

      I agree, in hindsight the way i was tying them for testing was incorrect, but i have since modified it. I am only using the jig to try to get some consistency in the testing, i can control pressure, tension etc. In the real world i tie the FGs without it, its just not practical to carry with me when on the water, or walking the shores. I tested some of the knots i tie without the jig and noticed they were stronger, that's when I looked at exactly what the difference was, wrap for wrap. I have been tying them in exactly the way you suggested for years, but with no rizutto finish, just 4 half hitches with the tag end and i have never had a problem. I am going to ty to get some time to test a few things, different tying methods and resulting breaking strains. Appreciate your input 👍
