I like you’re commentary about the Russian parts, I’ve seen so many reactors watch this movie and it’s always interesting to see different takes. Keep being you.
Spidering in glass says some thick section in there, maybe meant to convey light bullet proofing by writers or something. His sight lead was spot on from that angle at least. Check the vid on Keneau training with firearms and martial arts; around 4000 hours combined for this first movie alone!
He was messing with his prey. Notice how he crouched next to the dying guard, staring straight at Iosef as he executed him. It was to raise his fear levels before he went in for the kill. He did it for revenge, after all 🙂
The glass deflected the bullet or it was bulletproof. John don't "play with his prey", he's strictly business as is demonstrated at the end when he calmly 86s Josef without a word or pause.
The hotel forbids "business" on the premises. It caters to killers and insures their safety at the hotel. She violated that policy and suffered the consequences.
That may also b e the reason why John Wick did not kill her; it too would have been a violation of the policy. I'm not aware that killing in self-defense is acceptable in the hotel, unless someone knows this for sure.
@@bbwng54 Considering John was asked if he needed a dinner reservation and did not also give a definite answer to the question, killing in self-defense is justified I think.
@@justwatch7091 If you follow the rule exactly as Winston describes it (No business will be conducted on these premises --> no completing/fulfilling contracts, revenge killing, ...). Defending yourself isn't technically business imo. So I think they would let it slide, especially (as you mentioned) since they asked if he needed a dinner reservation after he just told them about 'an uninvited guest' (which implies he was not intent on doing anything like this)...

"The puppy is so adorable and I'm such a mess" ... oh, really? You call this a mess? Well, let's see what we can do about expanding your horizons. When the manager of the Continental talks about incurring heavy penalties, he means it. lol Love the clever detail of Marcus asking if the contract was closed. If it was, then there would only by one assassin hunting John. Since it was open, Marcus agreed to take it so he could protect John from multiple enemies. It's a masterclass in show don't tell. The movie hooks you and keeps you invested by making viewers figure out details that are treated as commonplace by the characters. From dinner reservations, gold coins, cops ignoring underworld killing, to the Continental being a safe house... everything is laid out and given just enough context for us to build the universe in our minds while still moving the story along without clunky exposition. Favorite detail: The spot he walks off with the dog at the end is the same spot his wife collapsed in the beginning.
I watched this movie on opening weekend with my sister. After this scene she was so pissed she almost walked out and blamed me for not warning her even though the movie was her idea lol! It was the first weekend so know one knew on the puppy scene!

@@SophieLents the 2nd and 3rd are not as good as 1st one. They basically repeat the same all over again. Fun fact about Baba Yaga, as you know it is a female character, but for some reason Hollywood writers stubbornly call the male characters in their movies with the female name. I think the only movie where they did it correctly was Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Fun fact: The mob boss gradually goes from absolutely sober to an alcoholic mess through course of the film. Understandable considering what he already knows.
"How is he doing all this?" Fun Fact ... Keanu trained like a Fiend to be able to look, act and feel like an absolute Pro in those Scenes. Took Professional Shooting Lessons, Hand to Hand Training etc, and afaik he did literally all of those Stunts himself. That man is an absolute Legend and should serve as an Inspiration to anyone who wants to "get it right" while still remaining humble and grounded. In Keanu's words, he does all the action, not the stunts. He does all the fighting, all the shooting, some of the driving, but when he has to take a hard fall, get hit by a car, get thrown off a second floor, he leaves that to his stunt double.
If you remember, the management of the continental said "No business on continental grounds, less incuring heavy pena;toes." What happened to Perkins was the "Heavy Penalties."

-I came into this franchise late. Now, I’m a huge fan and I can’t wait for the fourth one. -When it comes to why Viggo didn’t have his men kill John, my theory is in two parts. The first is that he missed what John could do. Going back to the lullaby right before the assault on John’s house, Viggo had a smile on his face as he sang the last line. Then, as John is chasing them, he’s smiling and laughing during it. He’s even having fun with his lawyer after he asks for a gun. The whole thing is leads to part two. He’s wanted to be the one that kills the legendary John Wick and he’s getting that opportunity. Before their fight at the end, he says “No guns. No bullets.” A gun is impersonal. Even with a knife, he would have to be up close. -Definitely check out the sequels. The best way to describe it is the shit gets crazier and crazier in the most fantastic way. -Something I’ve noticed from reactions to this movie is the producers ultimately made the right call with Daisy. The reactions to the her being killed brought the perfect emotional response from the viewers. If this was about the car, there wouldn’t be enough of an emotional attachment for the audience to link to. The death of John’s wife, which the audience already sympathizes over, can’t be linked. Daisy fills that role by being adorable AND a gift from John’s wife to help him grieve and move on with his life. When Viktor(?) kills her, go back to John’s speech in the church where he explains to Viggo where she wasn’t “just a dog.” The audience already senses that, which makes them sad and/or angry. It builds up the desire to see Iosef get his comeuppance. You have the reaction of Aurelio when he sees John’s car followed by him decking Iosef and not being scared when Gregori pulls a gun on him. This creates intrigue as to who “John Wick” is. Then, Viggo calls Aurelio to ask about hitting his son. After getting an explanation and Viggo saying “I see”, the audience goes from intrigued to flat out wondering, “WHO THE FUCK IS JOHN WICK?” After Viggo explains, the audience that just moments before was either sad or upset over the producers killing a puppy are now totally invested in this movie and are dying to see what happens next.
The John Wick films are hands down the best films that Keanu Reeves has starred in many, many years! I fell in love with this franchise from first watch, just wait until the sequals, each one better than the last 😁 And there's a fourth one coming out this year. The Choreography is incredible! Keanu does pretty much all of it, the behind the scenes of this film are definitely worth watching.
What people generally fail to understand about the first john Wick movie, is that John is the Antagonist not the Protagonist, in otherwords he's the "bad guy" in a bad situation.
The pistol used by John Wick is an HK P30L before this move came out you could buy one in the US for around $700. However after John Wick was released you couldn’t find a P30L for under a $1000 because everyone wanted the “John Wick” gun.
The John Wick house is out there on Long Island in a very exclusive town called Mill Neck.. (At the end of Horseshoe road right by the water..) --- The runway where he practices driving is at Republic Airport, Farmingdale, NY.. -- The place where Ms. Perkins gets hers is the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park...
John is so well known because he is surrounded by people who live in the world of murders that he was in, John was a hit man with a great reputation and in those low worlds he has a respect that he has earned, that's why everyone knows him and nobody wants to interfere with he.
@@SophieLents more sample of movies. Anastasia, Siberia, attraction, attraction 2. Those movies were filmed in Russia. Another set of movies shot in Russia: war and peace, Sputnik, cast away, the Russia house etc.
Speaking of Russia... There is a comedian named Bert Kreischer who tells a true story about what happened to him when he went to Russia in the mid 90's. It's called "The Machine" and is really funny. The story has been verified by his classmates and is the subject of an upcoming movie.
Definitely watch all of them and definitely keep sharing your Russian knowledge! I love getting extra details and info from people with relevant knowledge and experience that I don't have!
An absolute top tier action movie! (no wonder it spawned an entire franchise) Directed by a stuntman (who understands WHAT audiences want to see in their action movies), with TONS of (mostly "implied") world building to fire up the imagination. So good. Also? I always assumed John was INTENTIONALLY missing Yosef in the bathhouse. (wanted him to "suffer" more terror first, before killing him)

He stole John Wick's car, sir, and killed his dog. "Oh" ^ that one word comes across with enough power you immediately get John is a threat before even knowing anything about him.
I know its been a year, and im still at the beginning, but when i saw your heart for his wife passing, my first thought was "oh poor sweet summer child"😊 im already enjoying this reaction
There is an entire article on the detail of the drinks. I would not be surprised if there is info on the color schemes the writers/directors went full in on this series. The world building too in the sequel the scene of John preparing adds depth to an already unique world.
It never fails to amaze me that people cannot readily discern that Dafoe character is protecting Wick. I'd say over 50% get it wrong ... "Boy - he's a really bad shot." 😂
It never fails to amaze me that people still don't know that the pillow Marcus assassinated was guilty of killing HIS dog and stealing HIS car a few years before. Everything has a price. 😂😂😂

Oh no! Please don’t ‘shut up up about the Russian stuff’! It’s so refreshing to hear a true perspective. I know very little about Russia and its culture and traditions, and I love to learn about it from you. I have to agree, though, it’s so funny hearing American or even British actors put on an Australian accent, so bad! Before anyone comes at me, I know it’s the same when American and British people hear Aussies trying to put on a different accent too. We are terrible at it. At least it’s even across the board.
There is an entire world of classic action, thriller, and horror movies I would love to see your reaction too. TAKEN with Liam Neeson is similar to John Wick. Put that on your list. Also, the recent "The Invisiable Man" movie with Elizabeth Moss is an excellent thriller.
11:06 I love that you’re catching the juxtaposition of storytelling through the use of the complimentary Orange/Teal palette .. I love you , you got my sub, thank you for this.
The reason he let Francis go is because Francis told him in code how many guards were inside protecting the boy. The amount of weight he lost is the number of guards, so John let Francis leave....
Sophia, you mentioned the artwork of this movie. I would just like to mention one more thing, which is that John doesn`t just shoot people. His shootings look as if he is dancing to a certain rhythm, which makes the shooting scenes a piece of art.
What's even more impressive is the fact that this was done by a duo of stuntmen that doubled Keanu on matrix trilogy, after this one they split their ways, Chad keeps making John Wick movies but already signed himself up on other new IPs, the other is David Leitch that made these little movies like Deadpool 2, Hobbs Vs Shaw, Bullet Train or Atomic Blonde.....both very very talented guys....there's also another very talented ex-stunt double that made Extraction film with Hemsworth, sequel will come out this year and I'm sure he'll have a wonderful career as well.....these guys are saving the action film genre!!!!! God bless them
Puppy update: New to the series, even though I knew about it... Daisy (played by Andy) was adopted after the movie by a friend of the director, renamed "Wick" and even went to the premiere of John Wick 3, unknown if he went to JW4.

What people generally fail to understand about the first john Wick movie, is that John is the Antagonist not the Protagonist, in otherwords he's the "bad guy" in a bad situation.
The Entertainer circus music that kicks in at 12:36 is absolute genius. I choked on my pasta.
This movie is what you get when the stunt performers decide to make their own movie.
John is so well known because he is surrounded by people who live in the world of murders that he was in, John was a hit man with a great reputation and in those low worlds he has a respect that he has earned, that's why everyone knows him and nobody wants to interfere with he.
What?? You're watching Live action???
You're in for it, Thank you Sophie
Keanu Reeves is such an icon and a national treasure! ❤
🇨🇦 ❤
I’d say international treasure, but extra special thanks to Canada.
12:13 i am really glad to hear all that russian stuff! it’s a pleasure to find out about someone studying your language and culture ☺️
We want MORE analysis of Russian stuff in movies, not less lol. 😂
Got it 😅
@@SophieLents more sample of movies. Anastasia, Siberia, attraction, attraction 2. Those movies were filmed in Russia. Another set of movies shot in Russia: war and peace, Sputnik, cast away, the Russia house etc.
his character was a former Marine that's what that tattoo on his back was so that's why he's so deadly
Jimmy the cop is the single wisest person in the entire John Wick universe.
Speaking of Russia... There is a comedian named Bert Kreischer who tells a true story about what happened to him when he went to Russia in the mid 90's. It's called "The Machine" and is really funny. The story has been verified by his classmates and is the subject of an upcoming movie.
The sequels in this franchise are actually very good. Definitely worth watching!!
Definitely watch all of them and definitely keep sharing your Russian knowledge! I love getting extra details and info from people with relevant knowledge and experience that I don't have!
The actor leading the cleanup crew was also T-Bird in “The Crow” and famously Luther from “The Warriors”; “🎵Warriors, come out to playyyyy.🎵”
Vigo explained the story, Wick is an Assassin, Vigo was A Russian mobster
An absolute top tier action movie! (no wonder it spawned an entire franchise)
Directed by a stuntman (who understands WHAT audiences want to see in their action movies), with TONS of (mostly "implied") world building to fire up the imagination.
So good.
Also? I always assumed John was INTENTIONALLY missing Yosef in the bathhouse. (wanted him to "suffer" more terror first, before killing him)
The most emotional reaction of all I've seen, it was so fun to watch. Keep going!
Instant classic. Excellent action scenes, superb photography, great thriller. One of the best 80s 90s like movie ever.
I love your reaction to John wick one Sophie I just watched all 3 for my 1st time , can't wait to see your reaction to 2nd and 3rd one there's also gonna be a 4th 1 this year
He stole John Wick's car, sir, and killed his dog.
"Oh"
^ that one word comes across with enough power you immediately get John is a threat before even knowing anything about him.
"What kind of membership is this?" 😭😭
This movie makes so much more sense after a rewatch
The part of the John Wick series is the fact that they’re all a continuation of the previous movie and 4 comes out next month #ToBeJohnWick 😅
😂😂😂
People are just naturally hardwired to distrust Willem Dafoe. 😄
Hello there, it's been a while since my last comment, but I got to say... nice seeing a change of scenery, a long step going straight to John Wick, a rollercoaster of emotions right at the beggining.
As always, much love for your reactions here. Can't wait for more! Full support on the diversity of content 😉
I love the fan theory that John Wick is the alternate universe where Ted failed the exam at the end of "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" and is shipped off to military school.
"oh."
best line in the movie.
13:07
"I need to know how we went from a CS:GO professional to a kind, family man."
Viggo said it best:
"It's over a woman, of course."
Accents are hard to pull off 😅
HOOORAYYY WAS SO HAPPY WHEN I SAW U REACTED TO JOHN WICK
John Wick is a master of Gun Fu.
A mix of jiu-jitsu, judo, and shooting people in the face.
The innocence is hilarious, holy crap 😂
I'm really enjoying your reaction. Please, PLEASE do the next two movies! And when you need something else to watch, try "Firefly/Serenity".
the next part is the favt. movie in this franchise so far. third was also great but part 2 was straight to the point.
Just found your channel today with this video, and I went back through your others, to see what your channel is about. WOW, to go from what seems like 99% family animated movies to this? I now understand your comment in regards to watching something NOT animated, but maybe you should have eased in to it. LOL This is an amazing action movie, with a touching story at it's core, and is probably the complete polar opposite of what you have been watching before, ENJOY!
Lol, talk about ripping the proverbial "band-aid" off eh.
I’m just unpredictable like that 😂
Going from animated movies to John Wick - wow, thats a complete shift to the opposite end of the movie genre scale... This will be interesting to watch!
Great reaction to a great film.... it just gets more intense from here on with the sequels....ENJOY!
John don't miss 4 times.... Damn glass stops 4 times
John Wick (Keanu Reeves) was born Jardani Jovonovich in Belarus. He was an orphan, and was taken in by the Tarasov Russian Mafia where he was raised as an assassin. He was so ruthless that the mafia boss Viggo Tarasov respected and feared him. Bayu Bayushki Bayu
Do not lie down near the edge of the bed
The grey wolfie will come
And grab you by your tiny side He'll grab you by your tiny side
And drag you to the forest...
Drag you to the forest...
Down under a willow shrub.
Don't come round, wolfie, don't wake up our Masha.
Bayu Bayushki Bayu
Peace out.
21:06 he couldnt kill her because she was in continental grounds. the rule was no killing or fighting inside the building... i think
I’ve never seen any of your reactions and this just randomly popped up and I was curious. I’m happy that this was your first reaction going outside of the box. It’s one of the best reactions I’ve seen this year so thank you! You got 1 new subscriber
I love the general rule, no matter who is reacting: YOU.DO.NOT.HURT.THE.DOG!
13:45 Actor David Patrick Kelly (Charlie the Cleaner), whom you mistook for Robert Knepper (T-Bag from Prison Break), was, among many other roles, the villain in the iconic 1979's 'The Warriors' (his most famous line: “Warriors... come out to play-ee-ay!"). Would also be a great movie to react to, BTW.
Writers were sitting in the theater loving that the crowed was getting attached to the dog 😂.
For real though im new to the channel and i love that you talk about the Russian parts. Keep that up👍🏿
each sequel builds from the last a continuation of the story all a must see
Calm down "budget Channing Tatum" I have no words. You are the best 🤣🤣
I watch u first time the editing is soo good i like this style reaction
my wife and i watched this movie together. and you talk a lot like her! i went somewhere else to watch and enjoy this movie in peace.
Fantastic reaction Sophie. "29:22 Is it Terminator" that means you watched Terminator already.... and I thought about suggesting it to you 😂Have you seen Terminator 2 aswell?
It’s exciting to see you react to movies other than animation, they’re fun to watch, and they’re the first thing I look for on UA-cam Saturday mornings! But it’s nice to see you expanding! Much love from Louisiana! 💯💙
Another movie that's quite similar to this is Mr. Nobody. It has many of the same behind the scenes people that were in this movie. Highly recommended. It even has more Russian bad guys!
When you have hard-core Russian gangsters shitting bricks at just the mere mention of your name you are in a class all your own
@18:15 He was intentionally missing Iosef to invoke fear in him, seeing that he doesn't "fear" John.....NOW he does!
