      Yup. Lots of electricians out of work right now. They say if you're good you'll always have work, which is not true. What stands more true, is that if you are good at the job, you will have lots of enemies. IBEW full of snakes but hey, it's a pay cheque I guess.

    Does anyone know if you have to drug test immediately after applying or if that happens after your accepted into the program? I want to apply to the IBEW now but I smoked weed about a week ago before realizing the unions don't allow that (I live in WA)...

      If you are at the beginning of the application process you should be good. It takes a couple months to go from submitting the application to taking the test and if you pass, going in for an interview

      If you do good in the interview it’ll take weeks or months before you get an offer at which point you have to do UA

      You need to do summer school or some kind of equivalent credit. The JAC called me and asked me if i wanted to join the union, and I didn't have certain highschool credits so I told them I'm going to get them and eventually called back and got it.

      Look for schools where ever you live, bro. Summer schools allow adults as well. Also, I'd recommend HVAC or Plumbing, instead. They make the same amount of money (usually more) and have much simpler tasks. I used to think electrical work is good because it keeps you fit physically and mentally, but i soon realised it's not worth it. Too late for me but not for you. Plumbing is more practical, everyone can live without a light or a bedside plug, but no one can live without taking a shower or poop. Anyone can make a plumbing company, but not anyone can make an electrical company. Good luck

    Has anyone gotten placement without a highschool transcript? I have a college certificate for Electrical Techniques at a recognized trade school and have been accepted to the training program. Would this pass as sufficient for placement after the program?

    • @ryan_knowws
      @ryan_knowws 6 місяців тому +1

      Don’t really understand what you’re asking, do you mean as far as pay scale goes? If you don’t have experience in the field then they’ll just place you at the starting level/wages. Having already done a trade school may get your wage scale up a bit but you’ll still have to do the full apprenticeship

    • @cloroxbleach6039
      @cloroxbleach6039 2 місяці тому

      Pay will be the same but you will most likely have a higher advantage than everyone else for a job because you have a certification

    I do not recommend the IBEW apprenticeship. Here in NY, they're really training engineers for huge projects (railways, power stations, wiring up skyscrapers) not houses or apartments. They make you take a terrible 4 hour electric science class every week, plus a useless college degree in labor studies. The electric class is no good, poor instruction and 10 hours of studying a week. Worst of all, you get no college credit for it. It'll be 5 years before you can start doing a degree in electrical science. I recommend going to college first and getting a degree in electrical engineering. Then they'll let you right in.

      It's dependant on what the contracts out there are. Ibew is a trade a career the apprenticeship is a specialized training that is given to train individuals in the jurisdictions main work. Where I am their is no residential work for us to take. The ibew and the apprenticeship program for each local hall isn't a college that you attend and thrown out to find your own work. Understand what your conditions are and your protections. The advocates at the hall right for the benefits you get.
