Abati even said that if he is wrong feel free to jump in and correct him. I have to say that I think the average Nigerian struggles with the English language today. Because if you consistently have conversations in a language and communicate in the language at a high level, you would be able to intelligently arrange what he said in the context of the overall conversation.

Kasmir you just wrote a bunch of word salad while contradicting Abati. Abati said "if I am wrong feel free to challenge me". But when he was challenged by his co-host, he got upset and angry, then started threatening her.
Not at all. I agree that when his co anchor asked him to explain himself, his response was not great. As a professional, especially at his level, he should have used the opportunity to educate. However, I think he lets his emotions get the best of him. He told her that he will not walk back on what he said and that people should go back and rewatch it. To me it sounded like a students telling a teacher that they do not understand concepts or even that his method is not the best and rather than listen and explain better, the teacher takes it personally and send them back to their textbooks. So, I agree with you on the way he handled an opportunity to either educate or get educated himself on what Umunna means.

The guest is not even from Igbo land. He made mention by saying why will a Yoruba man buy a land in Enugwu because Enugwu is a village. What makes Enugwu a village? Is Osun state more developed than Enugwu?

Your comment is rubbish, ojy is right, cos when you wznt to buy a land in any place, you have to check how land buying land there works, from what I found out, there are 3 ways to buy land in igbo land, one is individual sale, clan land, and community land sale, among them, I divual buying is easier, but the other 2 way are more complicated cos it usually involves groups of people, maybe that is the type of land those complaining run into and conclude that igbos do not sale their lands, cos even for native s,they too complain that that system is complex,so haters of igbos,,is not about land buying, is about the ongoing hate campaign towards the ig os from what I can see.
Is the land in a prime area. Many outsiders have tried buying land and they don't even sell to their own Females. Igbo women cannot inherit their inherited land so as not to fall into the hand of an outsider. I still have a sister fighting her corner to her mother's share only because her mother married a Yoruba man.
Igbos are not as accommodating as the rest of tribes that's the fact. But the context is that there are geographical, economical and historical reasons for that. Small land mass, the east being the smallest, low economic activity apart from the crude drilling in some areas, and the resentment that some easterners still hold over the biafran incident. And to be honest tribalism which is the last factor. We have to be honest with ourselves to move forward in this country
Bro, Yours is just another shallow head crap. Name your land mass and the economic activites happening there first so your statement can be evaluated. If you are a genocidist or an unrepentant offspring of the killrts of over 4 million Igbo women and children, then remain afraid because the resentment will continue unabated. I really love the turn of this. He quoted someone's speech same way VDM quoted Bobrisky and he was a chief critic shouting and highlighting "innuendo". Now he's in the same pit. Should the entirety of Igbo people sue him for innuendo now??? Karma these days no dey calm down at all
Truth is that Igbos sell land.
N they dont descriminate.
Family land is not sold even to igbos it is meant for the family members.
What Mr Abati said is 1000% true.
All i know is that it is only the Yoruba people that is more accommodating in this country. We seems to be the only bridge that is holding the country. That we have one or two building own by Yorubas in Igbo land does not mean the Igbos are not discriminatory or they are that accommodating.
Crappy slogan. The people on whose oil resources you depend to feed yourself and your family daily are not accommodating but it is you who sell your land and collect money from the buyer is "accommodating". last week, I sold my house in Iragbiji to an Edo man not because I need the money but because I am accommodating and I want to accommodate him. Rubbish.
Bro! you are a land seller in Lagos and Abuja, why are you not selling land where you are come from? Cause una no dey sell to outsiders
My thought, too. 😂
No one can sell Umunna land to you, if you don't know the meaning of what he said ask for interpretation and also Igbo land is not cheap ok?
@@uzopaul871 wetin be umunna land? The ones Igbos are buying and selling in Lagos and other parts of the country are they not family land too? Some of you always cry discrimination but you discriminate against others, even among your fellow Igbos. That's the bitter truth...
Umunna land is a type of land that's collectively and jointly owned by all the male offsprings in a kindred or micro-village (possibly bearing different surnames). It can never be sold without the consensual and mutual agreement of all the members (not even a single dissenting voice) that have come of age to vote on the decision. Class dismissed ..
There are tons of Igbo property sellers, selling land in Igboland on UA-cam. It's not that difficult to type it in the search.
They know that what Dr. Abati said was true secretly, but false publicly, that is why it hit so much nerve. Ignore all their angry reactions, that is a statement that requires soul searching. Thank you for speaking up. No gree for anybody, speak your mind on all issues...

This one wants land for ruga after destroying his own land through uncontrolled open grazing and other antiquated practices which turned the entire place into an uninhabitable dust bowl unsuitable for man and beast. I thought you own the biggest land mass in Nigerria, so, why do you want to buy dot land now?

Biased mind of a tribalistic person. Umunna land is not sold but Igbos sell community land. Why do you want to live inside someone's family
I agree with you
Abatti is DANGEROUS for those who don’t know.
REALLY DANGEROUS
Well spoken, Dr. Ikechukwu. Who wan hear make them hear and reset
Abati is very correct , they dont sell lands to outsiders .
They Don’t Sell, But They Encourages Others To Sell Their Ihgiogbe ( Family House) In Edo State.
When do you come for land and you're rejected in the city?
Come buy, estate land are available. Bring your money to buy.

Shallow head contribution. Ancestral land will remain ancestral land for another million years and beyond.
You can do whatever you want with yours if you have any, but Igbos will not sell theirs.

HALF IGBO, HALF FULANI. BLOODLESS IGBO.Mad people everywhere
They survived basically on tribal consciousness based on their past history.
@adetayoonasanya1131 , you're a liar. igbos will prefer to sell land to visitors or foreigners other than selling it to their brothers, who will eventually build a big house to oppress them. if an igbo man will fight his brothers to protect visitors or foreigners, what makes you think that they will not sell lamd to you? because you don't have the money he or she and their families are asking for. why can't you ask yorubas and other indigenes who live and own properties in onitsha who sold land to them?
As a realist, I don't have issues with any particular ethnic group, including the Igbos. In fact, I have friends from various backgrounds. My concern lies with ignorant Nigerians, regardless of their tribe or region, who resort to insults when faced with differing opinions. This behavior undermines constructive dialogue and national unity.
Dr Abati is on point
As a journalist Reuben Abati should have investigated what Tos Benson said..instead he was overwhelmed by his bias for igbos..how is it possible that a people that acquire the most lands outside their region will not allow outsiders acquire lands in their place?
Dr Abati is saying the truth
The positive thing about what Reuben reported is that we are discussing the issue now. People will learn for and against. Let's keep the discourse healthy.... We are all too defensive 😊😊
Very correct
Who is this man, I love this man ❤
If you think you're wise time will tell if you are or not.

It's just a matter of time,
Playing smart in your own eyes may not be smart afterall!!
No one is forcing you to give out yours. Oga go to Owerri, Akwa, Onitsha, Enugu, land is surplus if you want to buy, don't go around people's ancestry family lands and expect them to be willing to relinquish it to you. That's what makes them part of the community or village.
You’re an idiotic person attempting to sound intelligent
Land ownership in Igboland is not the same as in other parts of Nigeria. In Igboland, there's individual land, family land, and community land. The last two is very difficult to sell even to other Igbos.
my Ibo brothers and sisters una sabi dish out yabis for others but una no like to take yabis...you people are not thick skin and therefore make una stop throwing shades at others else una go dey take wotowoto

You can't force an Igbo man to sell community land that belongs to different families called Umunna to you that's not on sale. That is a stupid act to request for it. The Umunna land in my community, a brother of ours went to cut a giant tree and sold it without the consent of the community. A meeting was called and the person that did that was dully punished. Community land and land inherited are hardly sold in the villages.
My immediate cousin didn't agree to sell his piece of land to me when I requested it.
But when a non Igbo experiences a similar thing, they will say Igbos don't sell land to strangers.

Thank you Prof. Okey for that brilliant submission.
Abati did not lie.
Prof. Okechukwu is a well educated and an intelligent man. He did a good job dissecting Reuben Abati without negative. This is how intelligent people talk, may be Abati did not get it because he is so full of himself.
The truth is in the middle. Igbos are not as accommodating as other ethnic groups, or maybe the SE is just not viable for business relocation. What is true is that the SW is the most viable piece of real estate in Nigeria.
I laugh in Italy😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yes. Iragbiji, Ayetoro, Idanre, Ife, Osogbo, Gbongan, Ede etc. are viable real estates, very viable. That is probably why the Fulanis have relocated to the bushes there while the villagers haver reverse relocated to Lagos for owo mi da business.
This has helped me to change my mind
I love this intellectual submission
Beautifully articulated! Anyone who has issues with this man’s presentation is actually closed minded and nothing will definitely change his or her perspective. Dr. Abati was contextual in his statement clearly reporting a representation of a narrative told by a known figure not that he stated categorically it is his own experience. Unfortunately, Benson is dead to retell the story how exactly it happened. Everyone experience is different and the fact that you might not experience discrimination in a place doesn’t not mean you will invalidate other’s experiences. Every tribe have their flip side. What will the Osu people say regarding their own experiences in the Imo or Iboland? This is why history is very important in a country.
Yorubas refused to sell land to my cousin in a core Yoruba state! Ondo state precisely. Does that mean there are no foreign landowners in Yoruba states? No!. using LAGOS TO BOAST about a tribe is laughable. It’s shocking how bitter people have become towards another tribe in this country.
What?

Thank you, Sir Prof Okey Okechukwu, for the eloquent and well elaborated explanation. The Igbos have no land to even sell. Everywhere is choked up. The land we have in my village is not even large enough to farm. You know, we like to farm a lot. And like Prof also said, there is nothing in the village to attract somebody to come and buy, and build.
That argument that there are limited lands in SE states and same made known to the public and people will understand but where we heard such words from igbo elites that igbo lands is not for non igbos hence why people had that general view .
Even if there was. You can never get one. Na today. Igbo people are naturally like this

There's no doubt that a sprinkling of outsiders will have property in the east. At age 70 now i started elementary school in the east in the early 60s. My family suffered serious discrimination first hand. They don't take kindly to Yorubas heading departments in blue chip companies in their region.
Regarding TOS maybe upon being allocated the land he decided to build a post office because of their initial response. We will never know
This is long story just contact any of the real estate company in south east and know if the lands they insist you must be igbo before they sell land to you in matter of fact they don't consider that once you have your money they sell to you.
Many estate agents in the East are seriously advertising houses for sale and property in industrial areas to purchase, he won't go and buy that one but looking for issues.

Ruben is right
Igbo don’t sell land for outsiders
Prof, you have done justice to the matter. You are worthy of that title
I'm an Igbo man, please come and buy my land in Igbo Land.
Is the land in a prime area. Many outsiders have tried buying land and they don't even sell to their own Females. Igbo women cannot inherit their inherited land so as not to fall into the hand of an outsider. I still have a sister fighting her corner to her mother's share only because her mother married a Yoruba man.
Abati is the balance in the studio. Well stated.
If Land mass is the consideration, Is Lagos a Joke to you?
Bro,
Yours is just another shallow head crap. Name your land mass and the economic activites happening there first so your statement can be evaluated.
If you are a genocidist or an unrepentant offspring of the killrts of over 4 million Igbo women and children, then remain afraid because the resentment
will continue unabated. If you are Yoruba like abati, then let's hear about Ogbomoso, Osogbo, Ife, Idanre, Ede, Gbongan etc. Dont't come here about the boring Lagos this, Lagos that because Lagos is federal territory.
Have you come for accommodation and they denied you?
It is true. A wife of an igbo who is not an Igbo was not allowed to contest for election. The people said that she was not an indigene.
Yorubas should have allowed Akeredolu's wife to be the Governor of Ondo State but because she is Igbo, they discriminate against her.
