@@sunday8646hYou are misinformed, my friend. The buying and selling of property is based on mutual agreement and the willingness of both parties to proceed. Not all land in Nigeria, whether in the East, West, North, or South, is up for sale. The concept of "Umunna land" refers to land that is communally owned, meaning it cannot be sold unless all the owners agree to it. This applies across the country, as certain lands may not be available for sale due to religious or cultural reasons. However, this does not mean that communities don't sell land to outsiders. Reuben is wrong to generalize that Igbo people do not sell land, simply because some lands hold cultural or religious significance. In fact, there are numerous instances where lands collectively owned by the Umunna have been sold, but only after unanimous agreement. The fact that some lands are not for sale because of cultural or religious importance is true for many communities, not just the Igbo. It does not mean that Igbo people never sell land. Please get the facts straight and avoid misleading others. Thank you.
I will give you the land for free in the Southwest. The professor is just hiding some facts from reality. Non- indigenous people are not interested in settling down in the Southeast. Nothing works there.
Rubean Abati is a very conning man, he did that fuel hate against Ndigbo. That narrative of Bubean Abati is a lies. Again he said umunna land. Umunna land is never sold in Igbo land because it is land shared between sons of that umunna and it can't be sold. T.O. Benson could buy land any other place in Igboland.
In cities in Igboland , anybody can buy land . In the hintherlands , the umunna own most of the lands and nobody can sell Umunna land. Also , where you bury ancestors cannot be sold.

I am not Yoruba, but this is a well known fact, even in the business community in Nigeria. It is more difficult for non-igbos to establish businesses or buy lands in the east than for the easterners to establish in other regions in Nigeria. I have seen many Igbos argue that this is due to their doggedness, but one thing such people almost always conveniently ignore is, perhaps the hospitality of the host communities played a role as well.
This are two different things, one, going to hinterland to buy land is not easy even for us igbos, so it's not peculiar to outsiders, two, anybody can buy land in the igbo cities where lands are available for sale, cities and inside villages are not same, even in ur own village it might be same, Don't talk as if igbos don't sell their land to non igbos anywhere in the east, that's what we're refuting.
U also said it's difficult for non igbos to establish businesses in igbo land, this is what we're talking about, another falsehood, can you site an example wt one person u know, just be sincere
@ Like I said, either in the hinterland or in the cities, it makes no difference. Like Ikechukwu admitted, it is difficult for outsiders to buy land in the East. And yeah, as he alluded, there’s very little incentive. As even more easterners look outside Igboland. I talk as one who was in a position to process Advanced Payments Guarantees for genuine business concerns, and I’m a witness to the frustrations people had. My statement is not anti-Igbo, but strictly based on observations.

The question of gender depends on the kind of family. I'm Igbo from a family of 10 children 3 boys 7 girls. My elder brother gave me and my sister one plot of land each because we decided to build and we built wonderful houses where everyone is welcomed.
Thanks Prof for the clarification. Part of the problems understanding the Igbo is that some Igbo personality have not been doing justice to issues whenever they are called to clarify some issues. Some of their politicians are sometimes self centred to the point of making other tribes to accept them as partners. The other thing is why did Igbo not brought infrastructure to the east when they have the opportunity in the Federal appointments.
So is that what Nigeria has become-only Ibos can bring infrastructure to the east when they have federal appointments. When they do that, they are accused of tribalism. How come non-Yorubas like Chibuike Amaechi, David Umahi etc. are the ones bringing infrastructure to the west? Why not just divide the joke of a country?
When lies are serially told to your despisers it becomes a truth to them. Nigeria is being reported to be a dangerous place to visit abroad, but those who summons courage to visit not speaks otherwise, so it is, the Igbo land is very competitive and in such a situation the space becomes expensive such that it drives non indigenes away coupled with non national infrastructure to attract investments.
Surely, Igbo will not sell kand to an inlaw. They will give it free because is an insult to the family. The Father will happily give Free land to his daughter and husband and that is permanent
A married Ibo woman is advised to go with her husband and set up a new family with him in his home NOT return to her parents unless the marriage breaks down. So it is a nonsense to assume that Ibo and Yoruba notion of marriage is the same hence most Ibo families reject the unwarranted cultural encroachment.

Bros, my father couldn't buy land in our village because no land in the small village. He built our family house in another village. I also have gone yet to another village to buy. Chief Benson could have gone to another village and buy. He could have another story to tell
But you forgot that Abati made the statement as a riposte to somebody's claim that Ibos were entrepreneurial. His aim was to rubbish the claim of the entrepreneurial Ibo man by exposing what he called the "flipside" i.e. an evil race that do not welcome non-Ibos in their own land while being entrepreneurial elsewhere in another man's land.
Thank you.
But Reuben used TOS quotation to buttress his own belief!
That's a lie
No matter how educated and influencial a yoruba man may be, he can't separate himself from hate and tribalism

I have 2500 sqm of land in Nnewi to sell, I will at 300m if I get a serious offer. I don’t think the money will have a tribe inscribed on it.
300m for a 2500sqm na abuja?😂😂😂
₦300 million for wetin NA 😂
@ I have 2000 sqm in Abuja, I was offered $1m I didn’t sell. 300m for 2ksqm is fair in my reality.
I will give you the land for free in the Southwest. The professor is just hiding some facts from reality. Non- indigenous people are not interested in settling down in the Southeast. Nothing works there.
The lady that employed only igbos in a federal institution that was revealed recently also comes to mind.
Prof wa sabi
Great analysis
Rubean Abati is a very conning man, he did that fuel hate against Ndigbo. That narrative of Bubean Abati is a lies. Again he said umunna land. Umunna land is never sold in Igbo land because it is land shared between sons of that umunna and it can't be sold. T.O. Benson could buy land any other place in Igboland.
Ruben Abati should be fired immediately, he is an ethic bigot
In cities in Igboland , anybody can buy land . In the hintherlands , the umunna own most of the lands and nobody can sell Umunna land. Also , where you bury ancestors cannot be sold.
I love this mans analysis, abati just gave an hypothesis now we have negativo and positive which is subject to scientific evidence and which this man has given us a coceptualizstion of it ,before now the story was a statement flying around now we can see it differently ,so i say Abbati mean no hará to anyone with whst he said he was not affirming it ,he just quoted a statement from someone
No 1 Bida Road Onitsha anambra state is a 2-storey building, its owned by an Hausa man till today, Reuben Abati should get his facts right regardless.
As a psychologist, Reuben Abati was giving a wrong projection about ndigbo.
No one gave him the projection but abati Ruben the bigot was campaigning for tinubu 2027 so destroying the Igbo candidates earlier is his projection
who dash you degree?
but what exactly did Abatti said that was contradictory to what prof just said ? The sad fact is the inability of our Eastern brothers and sisters to appreciate their intracity biases
Abatti did not say anything wrong other than he touch frays nerves
Well spoken Prof
Prof, i doff my cap
Did Ruben investigate this matter . As an investigative journalists.
Despite what Abati insinuated, I see TOS as a great man, he used the land donated to him to build a post office to benefit the entire Mbieri town not only for the village of his wife's people which I learnt is Obazu village but the people of Mbieri.
@@jerryuwah8330 Bro, The point isn't to argue with you. And I will not go spewing out names to satisfy you. Those who know these facts know. You don't have to take it. And I am not contradicting anything that the Prof said, just highlighting other parts that may be salient in this discussion.
But Yoruba church businesses are all over Igbo land.

How? Dr Abati's statement was a reported speech
@@onimisimayaki reported speech yes , why passing judgement on a whole tribe based on reported speech, did you hear the analyst here that same man was offered a land Free, Abeti painted the Igbos as people of greed who buys peoples land and refusing to sell theirs , he's a Dr and should always based his speech on critical research studies and samples and not just one man story

Village land is typically not for sale - not even to fellow Igbos that are not from that place. We don’t bury in cemeteries - so people’s parents and ancestors are typically buried on that land. In the cities - you can buy land. Why is comprehension so difficult. I even agree with Dr. Abati - Umunna land is not for sale generally. Once again, fellow Igbos can’t even buy them. The problem is his approach. He could have added - you can however buy in the cities.
This is a cleverly crafted narrative to justify the ongoing demolition of Ibo homes and businesses in Lagos. Don't' be so slow, common man.
No truth in the subject matter! Reuben Abati's comment smacks of disrespect to Ndigbo, selling of land is at the discretion of the owner & shouldn't be generalise.
How is it disrespectful if the statement is true
Thank you Prof and Thank you Reuben Abatti...we all must learn to accept our Intrinsic biases as people and let no one castigate Reuben for his intellectual and scholarly approach to issues
I saw nothing intellectual in what Reuben said ‼️the mood and tone significance hate ‼️if not why not clarify himself when the opportunity was given to him by his fellow colleague instead he chose to bully her ‼️
You're a tribal bigot. I saw the comments you left in other places. Obviously you didn't believe in anything the prof said. You are just blinded in your hate.
when all you have is 2 or 3 examples in a population of over 40 million yoruba people in the world. Abati made a very good reference. Every exception this man mentioned were all holding a form of power.
Look let Igbo go from Nigersince you guys are hating. Igbos can always go to your country to collect their rent. Why don’t you people go and buy lands right now in the East even with property companies? You guys shot yourselves in the legs for the Federal non-presence in Igboland. Serves you guys right.
Please, nothing stops you from digging deep/ research, to enrich us with your own findings. Thank you.
Are u ready to buy land in the east? Kindly step forward as PWAN is offering good lands in onitsha, owerri and Enugu
Prof. History will remember you for this...
Nobody should read chief Benson book that just the truth.
I WILL NOT SELL MY LAND TO SOMEONE OUTSIDE IGBO'S AND I WILL NOT BUY A LAND OUTSIDE IGBO LAND IN NIGERIA. ONLY OPENED TO PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE NIGERIA. THAT'S MY CHOICE.
This regrettably is an insular mindset. You've got every right to your opinion, but the myopia is loud. Do you realize there are several Ventture Capital firms outside Nigeria owned by Nigerians? 😅😅😅 You're willing to sell to non Nigerians but not non igbos...😂😂😂 Do you realize a Nigerian has substantial interest in the group that owns Gatwick Airport London, and they could make a bid for a large portion of SW state for real estate , agricultural, or industrial purposes? Abeg..think big .
Igbos are the only people who have contributed immensely in growth of Nigeria.
