One of my favorite moments in any WC
They probaly knew tho that Ronaldo isnt realy good at free kicks.
Yes, he deffinetly has many free kick goals to his name, but if you actualy look in to the stats, he often went under the scoring rate of an average free kick taker, while also taking many many shots.
Ofc, if you take many free kicks, it might be harder to maintain an high average, while some players have an inflated average due to not taking many free kicks, but players like Messi for example also took many direct free kicks and he still managed to keep his free kick rate above the average free kick taker, while also surpasing Ronaldo in goals.
Thats why Ronaldo isnt among the best free kick takers of all time, althoug he has many goals to his name.

      @@wookey-2083 Yeah, probaly
Ronaldo went for more risky shots in general throughout his carrer.
It does not make Ronaldo bad to not be among the goats of free kicks, although the numbers of goals are up there for sure.
Is just that he took many direct free kicks during his carrer, wile actualy his conversion rate does not back him up.
Ronaldo does not need free kicks tho, to be in the goat debate.

His trademark tackle should be named after him, "Lahm tackle" (or maybe has been already??): snitching the ball away from your opponent with your heel while rotating your body. While the attacker is lying on the grass stil trying to figure out were the ball has gone you have already intiated the counter attack. Great stuff.

    • @johnjim6793

@@amariza21 Crazy has nothing to do with it, so why don't you just take a deep breath and relax. Maldini and Nesta were great defenders, some of the best defenders the world has ever seen. And of course they were, among other things, grand masters of tackling. I'm just not sure if Lahm's signature tackle that I'm talking about was part of their standard repertoire. If tried to find some video where they do it, and of course there are some scenes where they catch the ball with their heels. But that was not the kind of fluid movement that Lahm did on a daily basis. But I don't claim to have seen every match by Maldini and Nesta, and I'm more than willing to concede that what I call the Lahm tackle was in fact a Nesta tackle or Maldini tackle, because, like I've said, they were great defenders. Maybe there is some video here on UA-cam where you can see it?

one of THE pillars in germany's championship run in 2014 and ever since he's been out, germany has been on a downwards spiral. not that we don't have special talents in the national team. but i think we had a whole team of great football minds, hard workers and generally the most underrated team of all times. i miss that era, from 2002 - 2016 i really loved watching football, now it's meh.

@@ExtraTimeTVYT i personally think it's just a tough position for all the current players. the system that they have to fit into was developed by jogi löw and klinsmann in 2006 and then the system was slightly adjusted to the players. currently you can argue that individually the team might even be more talented (not in every position but generally) but it feels like all the parts of the team are disconnected from one another. there is no fluidity in the plays and it sucks to watch. i think most disconnected are the offenisve midfielders from the rest. our striker seems lost and when we lose possession of the ball it feels that there are huge gaps between midfield and the defenders. i just hope that there will be a coach that just either adjusts the system to our current player's playstyle or searches for the next best options to fit the system best from the playerpool.

TO me, Klose's retirement is probably the most significant factor in Germany's terrible results since 2014. Hopefully someone will be able to fill that gap but for now Germany are guaranteed to lose against every team that sits back deep while every germany player passes around aimlessly hoping someone else does something while standing around the edge of the box with 7 players. Lahm scored one of the most important goals of the 2006 World Cup for Germany. After disappointing results 2004 at the europe Cup, they got a new coach (Kliensmann). He kicked out a lot of veterans and got on new and younger players. He made a lot of enemies by doing that.
So first game against Costa Rica 2006 at the wold cup in Germany. 3 minuits played. Lahm scores a really spectacular goal. This (and the performance that followed) created so much support and trust from the fans. Before that, people said, that they would be out in the group stage. So that goal came as a real surprise for many.

Small and not the manliest voice he appeared to be that nerdy guy who goes to sleep right at 9 pm when the cool kids are still in town. However, through hard work and huge determination he became one of the very best defenders in football history and the cleanest ever. He even became the captain of our team, taking over from el Capitano Ballack, a big and manly guy, and did lead our boys to win the world cup.
Thats why you shouldnt judge a man by his size. Willpower is what rules the world and Lahm was filled with it.

No drama? Not quite. But you wouldn't know unless you actually were a Germany fan around that time. There definitely was quite a bit of it before the 2010 world cup, mostly related to him making a claim on the captaincy of the Germany national team despite that being held by Ballack, the most iconic German player at the time. Still, considering that was pretty much the only incident around him ever, that tells you a lot about the player.
But yeah, what a legend he's been. Never got more than three yellow cards within a season, which is a massive feat for a player in his position. Or that one time where he didn't commit a single foul in the Bundesliga for 13 months straight (and yes, he was actually playing in those games). He pretty much perfected the position.

(Although in honesty other sources say he had a few less games so it goes down to 30 games per card). In perspective that's almost a season uncarded.
