I grew up idolizing this man. When I was little, I would style my hair like him and idolize the entire spanish football team as a result. I recently found the old Torres 2010 WC jersey I wore during those days, and it inspired me to buy a signed one for my room, as it reminds me why I fell in love with the beautiful game.

If the game just ended 1-2 with Chelsea going thru with away goals, it wouldn’t have felt like as good of a revenge, Barca would’ve still held onto hope until the game ended. That goal crushed Barca’s hopes, and that’s why it was so important and memorable

This is exactly everything that goal stood for. Whether they choose to believe it or not, this match was fueled with the memories of '09, with that in mind, it meant a lot to see the wrong of '09 be finally right to most of the footballing world.

      WATCH THAT MATCH AGAIN.
That goal was important because Barca was BOMBARDING Chelsea with 1 player down for more than half of game. That clearance which leads to Torres goal did:
      1) Redeem his transfer fee.... forever.
      2) KILLED Barca spirit to continue their attack.
Yes, They will advance with that away goal... but as you saw a lot of times in football, Never say never, One goal may came anyway and anytime - luckily it was for Chelsea at the right time to killed off Barca's hope to dust.

I remember hardly the game but the outcome made me cry myself to sleep in that summer night of 2006. But this game. I remember every detail. The amount of pressure Barcelona put on Chelsea the final goal of Torres. The way he celebrated over Valdes. This feels so far away now. 2010s football will be missed for sure. Barcelona that time was a team truly feared with the peak of Tiki-taka.
Like, their reputation and betting odds were sky high, Chelsea was seen as a formality.
They really were the underdogs and the stats didn't lie but you had to watch the game and know the contest of that time to appreciate greatness unfold.
Chelsea parked the train and then unleashed the greatest 1-2 counter. Cult heroes were made that day.
Torres narrative was flipped from 50M bust to redemption & respect with that 1 goal, all woes and resent paid off, signed, sealed, & reciprocated.

That goal against the best Barca team (current ucl winners at the time), A Messi machine of 91 goals that calendar year.. & we, We Chelsea stopped them. That Torres goal, as a neutral fan you will never understand. The pain goes back to 04 losing semis to Monaco, 05 Ghost goal denied us, 07,.Liverpool again, 08 Man Utd in the final, 09 Barca the referee shenanigans, 11 Man uts again.. & finally, the weakest ever Chelsea team, finishing 6th in the league, managed to battle it.

Torres is a classic forwarder. He is my favourite player who plays a forward in its more professional level

A whole documentary about a goal that had legitimately no direct impact on the result of that game. If he scored that goal or not Chelsea would've still gone through against Barcelona in that 2 leg match up.
