To date the best part about Lahm as one of the best defenders ever is also the fact that he never got a red card. you need to be some god at the level that he played and the tackles that he made to never get one and that just goes on to show how good he was.

One of the best ever. A top 10 German all-time player. He is totally underrated. Germany and Bayern learnt his value when he retired. He never made a bad game, his „worst“ performances were solid. He never played a bad pass or made stupid decisions. Defensively Lahm was a monster.

You said it all man . I like how you touched on the Robben / Lahm duo on the right flank being so deadly . Everyone would scream “ Everyone knows exactly what Robben is going to do . Cut in on his left and try to curl the ball into the far side of the goal . Why can’t they stop him!” But what most people don’t remember are those perfect runs by Phillip to the outside. A defender has to respect that run . Hence giving Robben that split second to dart inside. You knew it was coming , but they could kill you on either side of a defender . Plus Philipp rarely missed the target if Robben did decide to push the ball to Lahm. It was almost unstoppable. Kinda wished he played more on the left side though . More goals . Like the winner against Turkey in 2008. Well done

And dont forget that before lahm/robben on the right sidebit was lahm/ribery on the left side which was about the same level.

And the controversy that often floated around wrt Lahm getting the captaincy of the national team over Schweinsteiger, especially after the Ballack fallout.
Pretty much any time Lahm's been involved in controversy, he's come out the other side proving that he knew what he was talking about. Absolutely fascinating how he reads the game and the environment around it.

I really enjoyed watching German Football. Diego was playing for Werder Bremen who caught my eye, but I slowly noticed just how good Philip Lahm was. He was great 'on the ball' bringing it out of defence, Inch perfect tackles and coald also attack and score too. Basically, I've never seen a full back do what he did. I'd pit ihim in my top 5 or even top 3 players of all time. BTW: I'm English. How much would he sell for today? He would be the most expensive Fullback ever, probably at aound 110 million Euros.

Also eigentlich sehr positive Merkmale für ein sehr erfolgreiches und mit hoher Kontinuität spielendes Team. Also ist man beim DFB auf die Idee gekommen das als internationales Benchmark zu nutzen.
