    I lived in South Korea for 7 years back in my 20's and did the Asian squat almost daily without even thinking about it. I stopped when I returned to the United States. I'm 63 now and I would be lucky to get my thighs in a horizontal position. lol Thank you. I'm going to try to regain some of my youthful flexibility.

    As someone from East Africa, what u guys cll th asian squat was a daily occurrence for me and my family becuz that's how we had to sit when pooping lol. We didn't have this common seated toilet seats everyone uses todah. That deep squat was never painful but now my knees , hips hurt so much when I try to do it and I have to hold on to something

    Hi ! I really like the idea of the knee gaping with the towel. Do you have a way for hip gaping for the femurs attached to the hip. I always feel impingement on my left hip and would like to gap the femur ball of the socket. Any help will be helpful thank you!😅

    When I was in South Korea there was a whole bunch of older men squatting in a park talking & playing games. I was jealous. I can get into this position with the help of a TRX only. Will try these progressions.

      Yes it is quite a functional movmement. We know it is not just segmented to just asians exclusively. It is just what is the common name for it these days and could easily be the african squat.

    Non Asian here. This is something I used to do a lot when I was younger like in my 20's but kind of got out of it. I'm in my 50's now and it has taken some practice but I can now do this easily again. It does become uncomfortable after about 15 minutes but I'll keep working on it.

I sometimes take help of my bed or floor.. Is this normal or someone should have flexibility to go into this position and stand up straight.

      My hamstrings were so tight for weeks, I could barely walk. I saw a video that said it was because of weak glutes. I did some glute bridges and got some immediate relief. It didn't go away immediately, but I've worked on strengthening my 3 glute muscles and and my hamstrings are almost completely better. Good luck.

    I stretch multiple times a week and I cannot get in the asian squad without falling on my back while some friends of me do a perfect deep squad and never did sport in theire lives. I start to believe its not only flexibility but the anatomy of your body

    • @anthonypolonkay2681
      @anthonypolonkay2681 3 місяці тому

      I Have this problem to, and I have better flexibility in my knees, hips, and ankles than alot of other people I see able to do this.
      I haven't taken any proper measurements yet, but I think I fall back because I have long thighs.
      That isn't to say I have long legs Over all, just that my fever bone is longer that normal compared to my shin as opposed to how most other people's are.
      This would mean that my wieght is shifted back farther than other people causing me to fall back, you might have this issue as well. I suspect it to be this because I can get into that deep squat woth zero issues, and no falling back if I hold a counter wieght in front of me.

      It can take time for your feet and calves to be able to stretch enough. If you start by doing it with your heels elevated on something you can work down from there.

    Not gonna lie, when I moved to Beijing to spend a few years there, one of the first things I saw was a man doing an Asian squat, and the first thought that went through my mind was "excuse me sir, you are not a zoo animal." I sorta felt bad about that later. But then I saw other things, like the defecation in public, the spitting on the floors of restaurants and hotel lobbies, the blowing your nose on your fingers and tossing the snot at trees. And I didn't feel so bad after that.
