Thank you for answering the question quickly and then explaining further. I hate videos with 15-minute intros of filler that just circle the issue and don't actually say anything of value. This is the complete opposite and perfect for what I was looking for.
Thank you for your video. I have had the cracking noises ever since I was 18 yrs old. I was 90 lbs then. Now, I am 70 and I hear the same sounds as I have always heard, but I do not experience any pain, soreness, or swelling in my knees. I very much appreciate your demonstration of stretching and strengthening exercises!
I use to used to have same symptoms until I focused on strength training and over time I realized it went away . It was my ankles and knees . Focused on Glutes , Core and quads . Good video
I took a knock to my knee cap and an area around it during a soccer game , my neighbor is a PT and he did a few tests.. He told me my glutes and quads are too weak and it's putting pressure on my knee. I guess it's time to build up the glutes and quads.
I'm 47 and I started working out when i was 43 due to health issues, and I became addicted to it, now I'm in the best shape of my life but I have developed some issues. I have a hip issue that comes and goes...along with a shoulder issue that's starting to heal. I do have popping in my left knee but it's no pain and I never had knee issues in my life. I chalked it up to being older. I realized I have to stretch and do warmup exercises, before I just went straight into my workout. I skip certain stretches cause it irritated my bicep tendons which caused my shoulder pain. I'm learning...I'm sort of new to the fitness industry.
Thank you for this video. I've been hearing popping with no pain and I've avoided leg exercises because of that. I was afraid that I would be making it worse.
Thank you ! This is helpful information,my son of 11 years old have this knee pain and how many times I have took him to clinic they said no bone crack or whatever the doctors said it is a “growing pain “because sometimes the pain is moving up to his right arm ! I don’t know what to do than to always pray for him ..and I came across this and glad that a lot of people have the same situation and nothing serious to worry about..he can still run walk but sometimes when too much tired it will pains him and the crackling sound !
Is he also experiencing pain in other joints and is he very flexible? You could see how many points he scores on the Beighton Scoring System. His pain sounds familiar to what me and my brother experienced (also explained as growing pains) and we just ended up being hypermobile.
My knees grind any time I bend it, I was very active and in multiple sports including distance running and had to stop due to the knee pain, I’ve gone to doctor and physical therapists and they have yet to figure out what’s wrong, physical therapy actually worsened my knees and the popping became louder after. I’m only 18 and have been having knee problems since I was about 10, I never knew that this was an actual thing that other people went through, I’m glad to have stumbled across this video :) hope in my knees have been restored
I’m glad the video was helpful. Many people, including myself, experience kneecap joint cracking, popping and grinding. However, if you have pain, it is a good idea to find exercises that can help. Usually, hip strengthening exercises (single-leg bridges, fire hydrants, Sidelying abduction) help. I would recommend trying the exercises in my kneecap pain video and my gluteus medius strengthening video.
Excellent information. I have popping and cracking from my knee but I'm not experiencing any pain. I'm 46 so I feel like that comes with age. I still workout 3x week and remain active.
To add from around 01:30 : Keep an eye on the cracking (and crunching) if you do have a tendency for musculoskeletal problems and the pops weren't there before, but you had no trauma to make it start and it's gradually worsening. Try to look at prevention when you see that happening. I thought it was innocent, but it progressed kinda quickly over just a half year and now I'm wearing a brace and going to the hospital (at 29).
My right knee has been popping for the last 5 years since i twisted my knee on a turf ⚽️ field during a game. Since then, my knee constantly pops whenever i do certain exercises such as squats, burpees, or deadlifts. It doesnt pop from the beginning, but after a few reps, it will make that audible noise and get sore. Of course it doesnt hinder anything else. I can still run, walk, jump, and sprint with no problems. I’ve been using a lot of balance/stability workouts to try and strengthen it along with yoga. I’ll gladly add these in.
Can you please tell me the kind of excercise or therapy you used to cure your popping knee , I have the same problem as you no pain but a slight uncomfortable feeling
Wow, can’t believe I found this video! Thank you so much for your expertise. I’ve been suffering with a crackling, popping knee for years. I even went to a very prominent orthopedic surgeon who did an x-ray on my knee and told me that it was all fine. Did not mention any information about how to strengthen my glutes and stretch quad, etc. This is brilliant! Going to keep working on stretching my quadriceps. I do a ton of Glute work but, tying this all together I hope will help.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge about this issue. I had really tough time searching about this theme and it was harder to understand why this is happening. 🙏🏼❤️
Pressure change in the joint got it. Been doing warming up, flexibility exercises and starting up single leg squats. So far making my body adjust to change. Will pay attention to pain and snap city but so far so good. More info helpful.
My knees have ALWAYS popped. At times it can be embarrassing, especially followed after the usual question from people, “are your knees ok?” I would say I’m active lightly other than doing my daily chores as a mom. But as of the past week, I have been trying to go to the gym more. Now, yesterday I did added a few things like weight to my squats and I don’t know why one knee hurt more than the other to the point I feel I can’t squat.. so I appreciate this video, going to give these exercises a try. Hopefully I get relief
As you probably learned in the video, noises are very common and typically are not associated with pathology. I have actually had the same popping noises since I was a kid that you experience and people often worried about my knees as well. If you recently increased the weight with your squats, you may have irritated the patellofemoral joint a bit. This happens to my left knee quite often if I do more squats or increase the weight. The exercises in this video and a bit of rest from more heavily loaded squats should help clear things up.
I’m going to incorporate these exercises with my usual workouts. I’m very active all my life but I’ve had knee cracking/popping since I was 17. At that time I was diagnosed with a muscle imbalance but I’ve continued to have the sounds and intermittent pain for years since then
I'm 55 and my knees have cracked and popped since childhood so thx for this Explains a lot. ankles do it too..as well as elbows wrists neck, back hips. But that's that's age and injuries
Came here after watching (and trying) the 'old mane sit-to-stand test.' While I have been fairly flexible growing up, my joints (especially knees) would always crack/pop and make noise! I'm not as active as an adult, so doing the sit-to-stand test really made my joints pop today. There has never been discomfort, but I was curious and found your video. Thank you for the exercises!
Thank you! Confirmation..ain’t nothing wrong with my cracking knees…that’s what I told em…because we got some quads and glutes to grow..and a little noise ain’t bout to stop me!!!!
I just subscribed. Great info on your channel. I have a desk job in an office environment, so sometimes when it's quiet I can do some rehab exercises. I have a fitness ball, some dumbbells and a resistance band for assistance. However, no matter what I seem to do and whenever I try to run or sprint or do some form of heavier exercise, my knee flares up. It seems like I can't do anything without triggering a flare up. I have a bakers cyst and I think there are some other issues in the knee that are yet to be determined. I'll be chasing up an MRI this week followed by a surgeon to look at the knee.
Thank you for subscribing! If you have a Baker’s cyst that flares up from time to time, you likely have some other issue inside your joint that is causing it to swell. This could be a meniscus tear or some other type of cartilage injury.
I dislocated/relocated my knee 3 times when I was younger and now that I'm in my 30s, my knee tends to "act up" when it rains and just absolutely randomly sometimes. Usually rest and heat or ice (depending on what I have to do for the rest of the day) helps. I'm gonna try these out next time my knee decides to stop working. Thanks!
I hope you find these exercise to be helpful. The knee chapter in my book has a more comprehensive patellar dislocation program that guides you through three phases of rehab. Here is an Amazon link for my book, if you want to learn more about it. amzn.to/3UJq0Cc
That's a relief. I had some cracking in my elbow when doing overhead dumbbell lifts. No pain at all, but I wondered if I should be leaving it alone. Hopefully nothing to be concerned about.
I used to have these loud knee cracks and it worried me since I used to work as a very active waiter, no pains but I just think of them as they are loosly or worn out prematurely. It was so loud I embarassed when going to the museum or library, got echoed too. Now I am in fifties and lift weights and forgot about its presence. Thanks for the confirmation.
I am glad the video was helpful. Research has shown on this that many people with knee crepitus are embarrassed by the sound and worry that they will experience problems in the future.
It's basically an air bubble bursting in the synovial fluid (crepitus), when bending the knees. Just like cracking your knuckles or neck and it's completely harmless, except in a few instances when you experience pain. It could be osteoarthritis (bone degeneration) or rheumatoid arthritis (autoimmune disease of the joints). Hope this kinda helped :)
Mine went away after a few months of resistance training via squats and it was like Christmas!!! I always thought that there was nothing I could do but I was wrong 💯
@vickhones9961 I just started with body weight squats and slowly started adding resistance starting at 10lbs and working my way up to 100 lbs. I started with 10 sets of 10 and would work my way up to 4 sets of 25 and then increase and after a few months the cracking just went away.
I started gym last year. One day during my 2nd leg exercise for the day (front squats) half way through my Reps my knees started to pop/crack everytime I went down and up. No pain associated but since then it's not gone away
How I wish I can do those exercises! I have lupus and rheumatoid arthritis and my left knee has subchondral sclerosis and my right knee is starting to bother me now. I have been doing quads setting and just active ROMs.. Lately I try to modify some exercises that I find hard to do. I will try to modify these exercises you taught.. Oh by the way I'm a PT and I want to tell you that I very much appreciate this video... Thank you very much. Very informative and huge help for us. 😊👍👍
Thank you for the comment! Awesome to hear that you are a PT as you will be able to, hopefully, find ways to modify these to fit your current symptoms and abilities.
I had been working out for two weeks straight, following a routine with weights and resistance bands, and was also dancing for an hour and a half on the Just Dance video game. After that, I felt a stretch-like sensation in my knee and started limping. I took a week off to rest. Then, when I deep-cleaned my bathroom, I ended up with pain in the big toe of my right foot - the same leg as my knee issue. I noticed a rough area of skin on my toe, which I trimmed with a pumice stone, but unintentionally created a wound. The toe became painful, and I started limping again. Now, a week and a half later, I’m limping less, but I still have some discomfort in my leg and lingering knee pain. I’m concerned about what might be going on with my leg and knee. It’s not exactly pain but more of a discomfort and stretched feeling that sometimes causes me to limp. I wonder if the exercises I was doing contributed to this, and I’m worried about what might be causing these symptoms. I wonder if these exercises will help me to fully recovered or if there is something else I should do :(
It is great to learn as I have been exactly suffering the same.Left side knee got pain after it was swollen and cannot sit to fold the knees fully. Will try this.
Awesome video thank you! I just nuked my quads with a new workout routine yesterday and today my knees started popping like crazy; I thought "oh no I broke myself" (no pain). Great to know to my admittedly weak glutes are maybe the issue: new goal focus, more on glutes
Can your knees still crack and pop even if you are fit and exercise a lot? Or is it something that happens only after long periods of inactivity (like in my case)? I was quite worried about this, sometimes it feels as though my leg/knee will „break”, but there is no pain, so I am hoping these exercises will help :)
Yes, many people who exercise regularly (including myself) experience knee cracking and popping. We have to remember that nearly 97% of knee cracking and popping is not associated with pathology.
Mine always pop both when I squat up and down. I was always a little concerned about it, but I haven’t had any issues. I think started to notice it more in my twenties. I’m 37 and haven’t had any issues.
Thank you so much, for these videos. A question: Can/should I do these exercises if I have a meniscus tear, cracking/pooping knees, and sharp pain in them, especially if I stand for some time. I had an MRI done and that is where I’m at. The strange thing to me is that the pain started in one knee and now is in both. One worse than the other, but has the same symptoms. I have stop exercising, lifting weights, running. I am very concerned about this. Please help! TIA 😊
You’re welcome. Glad the videos are helpful. With knee pain and evidence of a meniscus tear on MRI, I would recommend implementing the exercises in my two meniscus videos. One of the videos is titled ‘start with these exercises’ and they are more for people who have acute pain, so I would try those exercises first and see how you do with them. If they are easy and don’t cause much pain and you have full range of motion with the movements, then I would go onto the part two video.
Am 14 yrs and it’s popping and when I sit still it gets so bad and it hurts to run and I do exercise and it won’t work or help. And my knees hurts much
Hello again. Thank you for your excellent videos. They are really helpful. Quick question: I have heard it said, in other courses, that a flat back, jack-knife-like, single leg squat is strengthening for the proximal hamstrings rather than the gluts. In these courses they advocate a squat with the neck and back flexed forwards to activate and strengthen the gluts. I'd be very interested to hear what you think about that. THANK YOU Julieann : ))
I heard the stair climber is effective as well… when I’m simply walking around the house, last few days, (since a road trip last Wednesday) I notice I’ve some manageable pain, along with popping /cracking sound… but when I’m on the stair climber no sound, no pain!! Thanks for sharing information, will try these. 🥹🙏🏽
Thank you for that I recently had a knee injury and I'm going through with everything u said I'm gonna try those exercise because when walking down the stairs it happens but with pain.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I appreciate it. I was one of those people who was stressing about the crepitus in my knees. No pain. However, I *did* notice that is I apply downward pressure on my quadriceps tendon (just superior of the patella) that the crepitus is *significantly* reduced. What could this mean? Does that mean that my quadriceps is tight? Thanks.
Today, I was expressing my dissatisfaction about my knee cracking when ever I squat, unexpectedly, this video recommendation from UA-cam appeared. Despite not having searched for it, I found the algorithm to be impressive and the video itself was great because it taught me something valuable.
Start cycling. For the first month or so... My kness killed me after 6 to 12 miles. But after a few months doing between 10-50 miles a week... For some reason my knees wasn't popping or hurting no more; climbing stairs, squats etc wasn't making my knees pop or hurt no more... But as soon as I stopped cycling for 2 months my knees got bad again.
My left knee started making a sound when I started dancing again after being sedentary during the quarantine (1.5 years maybe?). My PT said it seemed that my quads became weaker esp. the VMO (dt being sedentary) and then the hard dancing triggered it. I've been strengthening my quads since then and the sound lessened A LOT, it stengthened a whole LOT too coz I couldn't even do single leg (L) wall sits a few months ago, my pelvis would tilt like an idiot 😆 and I would sweat a ton but the cracking is still there when I do deep squats. It's frustrating when I hear the cracking.. I know it depends on each person but how long does it usually take for it to be resolved? *And I remember the dance move that triggered it 😆 It was something like a fast lateral twisting of the leg, foot in place. And I swear I felt my kneecap kinda getting "out of the rail" haha I swear I felt it (the right one) move to the side momentarily. I stopped right away coz I got so scared 😆. But the right side didn't start crackig maybe because I'm right-side dominant and my home office is in a corner of the room so I was still working it out when I get up from my chair and was not weakened by the sedentary lifestyle. That's when the sound started (almost imperceptible at first, then became louder after a few months)
I am glad to hear the quad exercises are slowly leading to less cracking in the knee joint. Based on what you described in the beginning, it is possible that the kneecap was pushed toward the lateral side of the joint, which is how people dislocate in more severe cases. It’s hard for me to say how long or if the cracking will fully resolve. It’s important to remember that while cracking might be annoying, research has shown that in the absence of pain or trauma it doesn’t signify pathology.
At 35, my right knee popped and would twist a little in the squat and stand movements. Torn meniscus (bucket handle) and strained MCL. Now I'm 48 and my left is doing the same, thing. Had an MRI last month, and torn meniscus, so it's not always normal, and probably will worsen over time. Had my right knee scoped right after diagnosis, never had the popping in it again. Doing my left in April.
Yes, as I explained in the video, popping that’s associated with pain or an injury is something to have evaluated. However, as we have seen the research, many other types of joint popping is NOT associated with pathology.
My knee has been cracking and popping since I’m a teen. I never figured why. I saw a video of a doctor who talk about low collagen that cause this and low and behold I start taking collagen, after a couple weeks it’s gone. It feel so strange the sound you hear yr entire life every time you get up disappeared.
My knees crackle like a frickin bowl of rice crispies when I move them in a certain way. I was doing lunges in an LBT class last week and had to leave half way through because my knee was so irritated by it. I get this every so often when I move in the wrong way. It's a horrible stabbing pain that usually goes away after 20 minutes or so. Thanks for the advice. I recently joined the gym and the trainers are not at all clued up on what exercises are good to help with this 🙃
I’m glad the video was helpful. The patellofemoral joint or kneecap joint pain is the most common type of knee pain we see in physical therapy. If you need a more comprehensive program for this issue, I have one in the knee chapter in my book. Here is an Amazon link for my book, if you want to learn more about it. a.co/d/28MQUvk
It pops a lot now but it doesn't hurt at all. I can do squats and run. I did research because I was concerned so I found your video. It pops a lot but it doesn't hurt. I was concerned if I was losing cartilage or something.
My knees were cracking since college. Fast forward 7 years, recently I started working out. Last week, focused on my legs and did some jumping exercises that landed okay, but my right knee hurts and started cracking a lot more. And when I stand for a long time, my right leg starts to shake and knees hurting. The inner side of the knee and a little bit on the upper side is painful and shaking too I hope this vid can ease the pain
@@MJr-ku6wt I did some meniscus tear treatment and rehab stretches. Toned down my workout a little bit. And being mindful on proper jumping form. There is no pain anymore but the popping and cracking is still there. So far I'm just continuing to increase my leg workouts at a slow and steady pace. Minimise the pressure but constant movement.
In that case, I would try the exercises in this video and the exercises in my patellofemoral or kneecap pain video. You can find that video under my knee playlist.
So for me, my knees pop ANY time I stand out of a squat. Like, 3-5 times each extension, and once or twice going into the squat(and I'm Asian, so that is my natural rest position). I used to be a competitive swimmer in high school, and I HATED breaststroke because of this. It's part of the reason I no longer swim, as I was afraid of a more permanent issue. My right knee would always feel tender after popping probably over 40 times a minute. I'm 24 now, and still no pain normally, but it definitely freaks people out when I stand. Does that sound normal? No pain or tenderness standing or squatting, unless I do it a lot consistently.
Yes, this still sounds normal and fits with the research on knee crepitus. Some people experience popping during extension rather than flexion. As long as there isn’t pain and you haven’t had a major knee trauma, this is probably just your normal mechanics.
Yo I get pain now I’m kinda upset because its real. I’ve popped my nees 50+ a day for years played football on 3G turf biked there and back and all on little stretching ie none. But one day they just locked I can run up stairs and stuff but I’m hopping and I was vegan for 5 years now I’m 80% carni try to stay away from oils and grains and shiz but anyway I’m really lost with this one I can’t squat the second I attempt to squat the muscle kinda reaches its lock point and ye I can do one or a few but not good and unbalanced plus it’s not a real squat. Any help would be so much appreciated o haven’t tried ICE properly yet. Any thoughts on that ^ thinking cold baths. I think it may be linked to ankylosis as my back neck fingers ankles all crack something wild to 100s a day :( not painful but I also have no feelings of strength like I’m always kinda off balance or my feet will cramp. Weird first time ever just jotted it all down so excuse the essay but maybe someone else out there who like me who can help. All the best
Both of my knees were fractured for 3 almost 4 years, I didn't even notice until the doctor pointed out I had two old fractures, I was probably in 7th grade when I fractured them, I fell down from the top floor and landed on my knees, it hurt for a little while but it didn't bother me that much, after that day I could run, I had trouble just walking fast, couldn't keep my balance, every time I would try to run I would fall on my knees after a few steps. Had surgery done on my right knee, the doctor said my left knee SOMEHOW healed up correctly, they drilled two holes in my right knee, hoping that it would fill the holes as I grow, almost 2 year since, I've just been working on my legs, my upper body was more developed than my legs, because I couldn't run or do anything.
Sorry to hear about these injuries! I have a bunch of knee rehab videos under my knee playlist. I would recommend checking them out as many of the exercises in those videos would probably be helpful to you.
All of the time..I also have bone on bone arthritis in my right knee as well as 75% of bone on bone arthritis in my left knee...and I just had anti inflammatory shots put into my knees a week ago.
My knees have been popping since I was born. Just like my mom's. It's very loud but I've never felt any pain. Sometimes when other people notice, they make a face as if it was painful. My ankles and my fingers also pop, but not nearly as loud.
My daughter and I both also have knees that pop regularly. As you pointed out, people often look at us like something is injured or wrong. I hope the video was reassuring in that these noises are not associated with pathology in the vast majority of cases.
Mine clicks and pop because of an injury called bone bruise. There's also a "knock" when extending through certain range of motions and angle of the leg.
Great content! My knee does not crack, but it seems as if my kneecap stops moving from bending to stretching for a moment and then suddenly moves forward again. I don't hear anything, but I feel it. (no pain). Also no idea since when I got this, I noticed it recently. It is also noticeable when driving a car when you accelerate. I feel this the most, especially when I do split squats and the leg that has just been bent on a bench stands up again. Is this a common problem, is this a balance issue? Do you recommend visiting a physio? I have no idea since when I have had this, but now that I keep paying attention to it, it is very annoying and I no longer dare to make explosive movements.
To provide good range of motion which is lost due to high tightness of quads by atheletes , the tightness is pulling the knee cap upwards so to lossen the muscle. Will it be effective and if yes than is calf strech gonna provide good results , if would have to choose should it be dynamic or static?
Nice video, thanks for the info. My knees crack all the time, and i hear crunching noises as well.. like a stone rubbing on sand. No pain, though. Should I be concerned?
Great work thank you! Last week when i was playing football i landed on the toes of my left leg, as my it was straight, at the moment it felt bad but i was able to continue playing. Right now it have no pain and i even can run and play with it but i have this popping and crack feeling at the top of my knee when i straighten it too much (it seems that everybody have a little of it at the same area when they straighten theirs leg too much but it's a little more that that). So is it normal and should i just do these exercises?

This guy is legit, I’ve been following his exercises and in 3 days my pain has subsided and will continue doing and following him

Thanks for the feedback! I’m so glad the video was helpful!
My knees have always cracked since I was a young teenager.I am now 45 years old and my knees are absolutely fine 🙂👍
I’m in the exact same boat. My knees have cracked since I was 11 or 12 and I am no 40 and have no issues.
I’m also the same ! As long as I remember myself I could hear my knees
My story is the same!
Same 52 now and had it as a teenager, no knee issues, still running or cycling 4 times a week.
Thanks for saving me time going through the whole video!

"popped" up, good one🤣

Strengthening those area (glutes, quads and calf) are usually quite helpful when dealing with patellofemoral pain and crepitus.
I noticed that I started having these problems when I stopped playing sports + stretching.
I took a knock to my knee cap and an area around it during a soccer game , my neighbor is a PT and he did a few tests.. He told me my glutes and quads are too weak and it's putting pressure on my knee. I guess it's time to build up the glutes and quads.

Usually, hip strengthening exercises (single-leg bridges, fire hydrants, Sidelying abduction) help. I would recommend trying the exercises in my kneecap pain video and my gluteus medius strengthening video.

@@johnfaster20 mostly a lot of balance and stability training.
This happens to me. Cracking in my knee when I bend it. It doesn’t hurt but it was worrying me if it was something serious long term. Great video.
Glad the video was helpful!

WOW!! Thank you very much because I just had an injury and my knees are bothering me a lot. Blessings to you and your family program. 🇨🇴🇺🇸🙌💐💝
No problem! Best wishes with your recovery!
Thanks! I enjoy your videos and give me so much knowledges ❤
I’m so glad my channel has been helpful to you!
I’m so glad the video was helpful! Thanks for the comment!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge about this issue. I had really tough time searching about this theme and it was harder to understand why this is happening. 🙏🏼❤️
I’m so glad to hear this video was helpful to you!
Pressure change in the joint got it. Been doing warming up, flexibility exercises and starting up single leg squats. So far making my body adjust to change. Will pay attention to pain and snap city but so far so good. More info helpful.
Glad the video was helpful!
Hows it going?
How going on for knee pain?
At that time I was diagnosed with a muscle imbalance but I’ve continued to have the sounds and intermittent pain for years since then
I hope you find the exercises to be helpful!
Thank you so much I was at the gym and did the roller and mat and noticed a slight difference right away the first time !
I'm 55 and my knees have cracked and popped since childhood so thx for this Explains a lot. ankles do it too..as well as elbows wrists neck, back hips. But that's that's age and injuries
No problem. I'm glad the video was helpful.
I hope the exercises help you!
My mother is showing me this channel through her phone, I'm going to subscribe through my account now.
Im 16. I just noticed that my knees make these sounds. I was worried about it, but thanks to your video i know that its normal.
You’re welcome! I’m glad the video was helpful!
@RehabScience thank you. Hopefully the MRI will find what else could be causing the flare ups.
Love this tutorial... Very helpful... My right knee is popping when i do lunges or squat with some dumbel
Its crazy, I've always had this since I was young (I'm 35 now). Good to know its not serious at all
Glad the video was reassuring!
Intro beat goes hard meh boi. Just Subscribed!
Haha! Thanks for subscribing!
Can someone explain in written what are the reasons for the popping and cracking sounds? Appreciate for the explanation.
That’s great to hear! Resistance training can definitely change these sounds in some cases.
Please explain more how you did the squats to get rid of the popping ? Thanks
@vickhones9961 I just started with body weight squats and slowly started adding resistance starting at 10lbs and working my way up to 100 lbs. I started with 10 sets of 10 and would work my way up to 4 sets of 25 and then increase and after a few months the cracking just went away.
@@eliaspittman Appreciate the response. I will try out !
@@vickhones9961 good luck brother, just be patient with the process and it’ll happen 💯
I started gym last year. One day during my 2nd leg exercise for the day (front squats) half way through my Reps my knees started to pop/crack everytime I went down and up. No pain associated but since then it's not gone away
Thank you. I needed this. My knees been cracking since I was a teenager
Glad the video was helpful! Please remember that knee cracking in the absence of pain usually isn’t associated with pathology or future problems.
Great Video.. it helped me got back on track.
Glad it helped!
I need this .. thank you , can’t wait to try this and see if it helps me !

Thank you so much... ☺️
Have same issue... Did you get any relief? Any suggestions?
Oh wow super explained. I love the t-Shirt 🥰🌿✌️😎
Thank you!
Thank you, this was very helpful information!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video thank you! I just nuked my quads with a new workout routine yesterday and today my knees started popping like crazy; I thought "oh no I broke myself" (no pain). Great to know to my admittedly weak glutes are maybe the issue: new goal focus, more on glutes
The glutes are huge in terms of supporting and protecting the knees. 👍
Thanks a bunch, just subscribed, notification bell on!!!
Glad the video was helpful! Thanks for subscribing!
Yes. Mine do and have since I was 6. #Facts #ItsOk
Do heavy squats.
Only my left knee cracks but doesn’t hurt
I work out everyday and my knees pop everyday
Mine always pop both when I squat up and down. I was always a little concerned about it, but I haven’t had any issues. I think started to notice it more in my twenties. I’m 37 and haven’t had any issues.
Same here when started lifting nothing wrong. Now since a year they pop but no pain when squatting.
This was a great video, gonna give this a try.
Glad it was helpful!
Those pooping knees are a tough condition🤣
Very helpful video thanks! 😊
Glad it was helpful!
And I thought I was the only one experiencing this
Hi!!
I'm 67 years old and I have this forever , 67 years old and very active.
Such a common symptom, and usually not something to worry about!
I just subscribed to you and will try to do your exercise. Can you tell me what type of rug you are using? Thanks
Great exercises. Can you or do you have info on the Left side of body for Sacrum joint or tailbone?
I can't go stealth mode at night because of this knee cap sound
Haha, so true!
A lot of biking and walking helped to cure my cracking knees. They used to pop also but not as much anymore.
The stair climber is a great way to strengthen the quadriceps muscles and can help some people with pain on the front of the knee.
@@RehabScience thank you so much! 🙏🏽
Thank you for that I recently had a knee injury and I'm going through with everything u said I'm gonna try those exercise because when walking down the stairs it happens but with pain.
Sorry to hear about your injury. I hope the exercises in this video are helpful in terms of your recovery.
Thanks.
Hi just wondering how often I should do these exercises a week? Great vid thank you! 🙏🏻
I’m glad the video was helpful! I would try to perform these 3-4 times per week.
Thanks! Is it ok to rest my hand on a wall for better balance with the last 2 exercises?
@@goodluck2613 Yes, that is totally fine.
Today, I was expressing my dissatisfaction about my knee cracking when ever I squat, unexpectedly, this video recommendation from UA-cam appeared. Despite not having searched for it, I found the algorithm to be impressive and the video itself was great because it taught me something valuable.
The algorithm is crazy! Glad the video was helpful!
Thank you so much for your clear explanation.

Thanks Doc, great vid. Subbed
Thank you! I’m glad the video was useful!
Thank you soooo much for such a useful video
My pleasure 😊
drinking more water also helps, I had this same issue
That first pop was so satisfying
At 35, my right knee popped and would twist a little in the squat and stand movements. Torn meniscus (bucket handle) and strained MCL. Now I'm 48 and my left is doing the same, thing. Had an MRI last month, and torn meniscus, so it's not always normal, and probably will worsen over time. Had my right knee scoped right after diagnosis, never had the popping in it again. Doing my left in April.
Yes, as I explained in the video, popping that’s associated with pain or an injury is something to have evaluated. However, as we have seen the research, many other types of joint popping is NOT associated with pathology.
extremly helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Keep spreading the good news 😊😊
Will do 👍
My knees crackle like a frickin bowl of rice crispies when I move them in a certain way.
The inner side of the knee and a little bit on the upper side is painful and shaking too
I hope this vid can ease the pain
I have similar issue, Please let's know did you get any relief or what I should do for pain management?
@@MJr-ku6wt I did some meniscus tear treatment and rehab stretches. Toned down my workout a little bit. And being mindful on proper jumping form. There is no pain anymore but the popping and cracking is still there.
So far I'm just continuing to increase my leg workouts at a slow and steady pace. Minimise the pressure but constant movement.
Informative video, what if there's pain along with the pop noises on the knee cap?
Can you please give tips about Knee Arthritis, Patella dislocated Massage, Rehabilitation or mobility? @therabody
My knee ankles pop from time to time, thank u bossman
No problem! Glad the video was helpful!
@@RehabScience thanks
All of the time..I also have bone on bone arthritis in my right knee as well as 75% of bone on bone arthritis in my left knee...and I just had anti inflammatory shots put into my knees a week ago.
Do your knees also make a grinding sound when extended
My knees have been popping since I was born. Just like my mom's. It's very loud but I've never felt any pain. Sometimes when other people notice, they make a face as if it was painful. My ankles and my fingers also pop, but not nearly as loud.
My daughter and I both also have knees that pop regularly. As you pointed out, people often look at us like something is injured or wrong. I hope the video was reassuring in that these noises are not associated with pathology in the vast majority of cases.
Great video thank you
You’re welcome
Mine clicks and pop because of an injury called bone bruise. There's also a "knock" when extending through certain range of motions and angle of the leg.
Thanks for the video 👍
In such case which one would be more appropriate a static calf strech or a dynamic calf strech? Will really appreciate your opinion on this 🙂
What is the end goal? What is the stretch being used for?
To provide good range of motion which is lost due to high tightness of quads by atheletes , the tightness is pulling the knee cap upwards so to lossen the muscle. Will it be effective and if yes than is calf strech gonna provide good results , if would have to choose should it be dynamic or static?
Sir, will really appreciate your opinion on this
Nice video, thanks for the info.
My knees crack all the time, and i hear crunching noises as well.. like a stone rubbing on sand. No pain, though. Should I be concerned?
If you haven’t had a recent injury and don’t have pain, I wouldn’t worry too much about those noises.
@@RehabScience Thank you for the reply. Yeah, I didn't have any injuries.. it's just that the clicking is constant. Was worried a bit

Right now it have no pain and i even can run and play with it but i have this popping and crack feeling at the top of my knee when i straighten it too much (it seems that everybody have a little of it at the same area when they straighten theirs leg too much but it's a little more that that). So is it normal and should i just do these exercises?
