Honestly Kaylee, I would buy wood furniture that you like and get a can of finish in a colour you like, you can sand down all the furniture and stain it so it all looks like a complete set. I’m doing that right now with a whole bunch of mismatched wood pieces. It might take longer but it’s a lot less stressful than looking and not finding what you’re looking for
Personally, I love the mismatched items. But with wood colors it can really get ugly. So, ya. I see what her dilemma is. Brilliant idea. If she has the time to put in it. I recently refurbished a dresser. It took me month to get it done. And I still haven't got knobs on it. It felt like 6 months tho. I worked on it even if it was just 5 minutes a day.
I purchased a house almost two years ago now and i think a huge thing I learned is take your time. Their is no rush to fill it up and decorate it. Two years in and I’m still make small changes, ones that I’ve made strong decisions on because I’ve noticed buying things without living in the house for a good time tend to be my biggest regrets! Good luck with everything and I hope you slow down and enjoy all the moments of moving in and decorating! I believe if your home is a passion project and something you invest a lot of time and love into, it will become that piece of heaven for you!
I second this. Find furniture you LOVE, not what you think would look good. This is why I rather shop in-person. It's way too easy nowadays to find "pretty" furniture, and you realize that the seaming is poor and will tear easily.
Absolutely yes. You have to live in a space for a few months before you know what’s going to work for how you live in it or what will work best for you. Kaylee, just get the basics and then figure it out. And spend time researching the quality of things you want to invest in and just save up for those!
We moved in with just a mattress and bed frame and one dresser. That was it. We slowly collected things and we are nearly there after one year. 😊 We had a moving box as a kitchen table for two months 😅
I hate how entertaining I find your horse drama. I came to you for plant care advice, but I stick around for horse drama :P Seriously though, best of luck with that. Hopefully it gets settled in your favor.
I almost feel like it’s coffee and cursy words with the law nerds. ❤ Girl take as much time as you need to mentally process everything. It’s not Friday without your videos but you do you
So as far as furniture goes, I've also had a similar conundrum about furniture wood tones and floor wood tones. What I finally decided, through trial and error, is that as long as the basic tones are similar they look fine together. Extreme differences in color are noticeable but more minor ones aren't. And once you put down a rug, the difference is even less. Just my two cents! Have a great day!
I buy all my wood furniture via antiques auctions. I've purchased several tables, desks, chairs that are super cool and very unique which will fit in in a transitional, industrial or modern cottage decor. When you buy from auctions, you get top quality and unique items. I use a battered pine trunk for my coffee table. No worries about glasses or cups of tea sitting on it. I also, from time to time, throw a lovely rug over it so guests can put their drinks on without worry.
Don’t go crazy with furniture until you’re in the space! Realistically you need a bed and a couch and a small table. We just used a folding table and chairs until we found this amazing 1800s circular dining table at an antique auction. Investment pieces over time is a great way to go - it’s nice to have pieces with stories. Take your time and enjoy the process!
About wood tones - decide on the same wood tone (warm/natural/cold) and mix max 2 wood shades. Never buy online - it never works out well, you need to check the color in person. Also the light conditions in shops are totally different than at home :( So it is a good practice to have part of the furniture piece with you while shopping if possible or ask for samples (they often sell of give them away). Also, when you're not able to get exactly same wood tones, it's better to decide on a contrast color than go matchy-matchy.
Good luck Kaylee, I hope everything turns out for you with the horse and the seller. Don't get stressed out about the house and furnishings it will come together in its own time.
Thrifting is your best friend! DIY and a bit of elbow grease is the most fun, filling out a space is hella pricey BUT there’s no rush. And last tip don’t do everything at once, take it a space at a time.
Sorry to hear about your troubles! I've gotten samples from the furniture stores and manufacturers before which have really helped with wood tones. Your strategy of finding the same pieces pictured on Pinterest and other sources also helped me when I got a new place that was being renovated. Regarding paint and matching with wood tones, Benjamin Moore is a good one and is more static to me when it comes to light hitting the paint. I found that other paints (like behr) were more expensive and less predictable in different lighting. I once chose a grey behr paint that made the wall look purple during sunset😬.
When I bought my first house I thrifted a lot and painted the pieces to match. As I got more stable on my feet I replaced the pieces I wanted, but I was able to take my time and make sure I was really wanting want I purchased. Some of the pieces I actually kept because they were unique and I loved how they turned out. Also Benjamin Moore will save you in the long run. You can't beat the quality of it and it goes further than most other paints. Rustoleum spray paint is crazy easy to use and can completely transform a piece.
Buy vintage mid century furniture; sleek, sexy really nice lines and you’ll find the right tone for your house and know what you’re getting. You’ll find pictures on the internet so you check it on all lights. And it is cheaper than new, holds its value really well.
They’re dragging this out as long as they can because they know you’re paying the shit out of some attorney fees and they hope you’ll run out of money. 😢
Take your time decorating your home. I think it will be easier when you’re in your space. Start with your basics and spread out from there. We don’t care if it’s empty. As long as your comfortable we will be fine.
Everything will turn out exactly how it is meant too, you’ll get your money back for your horse, you’ll get your money for your plants and also you’ll get your entire house furnished! Speaking it into existence right NOW. 👌👌
Hi Kaylee, glad you got the keys to your house today, it’s truly well deserved and you’re really dealing with some big issues so hope the people who have done wrong to you get their dues. Hope you have a good weekend settling into your new place ❤ congrats 🏡
I have a few heirloom antiques I inherited, so different wood tones from different eras. First thing is, they don't have to necessarily match. Now, I do have a more boho eclectic style to begin with, but to my mind, too many pieces the same can look a bit too matchy-poo. I have a few red toned oak pieces, so I tend to gravitate to new pieces I add in dark wood, as it adds more depth and helps to weave a symmetry throughout my small space. Second thing you can do... if you find a piece that may be just a bit off the tone you want, you can rub the wood with a stain closer to what you want. You can even do each piece with the same stain, so it creates a fusion of tones within the same range. Can't wait to see your new place.
I find shopping online for furniture a nightmare. I find something I like then find a location near me I can go and view it. I appreciate you probably haven't got thay time but it has saved me buying things that end up being a completely different colour.
You can definitely have wood in different colours, it only looks funky if you put cool and warm tones together. At the end of the day you can always stain it another colour if it’s not quite right!
I purchased my first home last December. I’m still working on furnishing the entire home. I was extremely hard on myself and a bit ashamed about it. I now only need a few more items :). The process is stressful but worth it :). Give yourself grace through the process.
Create color pallettes! Pick one thing you like and know it's in your house, then put that into a color palette generator for complimentary/contrasting colors and go from there
Hey Kaylee, I think I know exactly the type of look you're going for. You should check out the Lone Fox channel. He uses a lot of BM white paint with black/dark accents and wood. But I think Three Birds Renovations might fit your aesthetic better. Both channels to watch though. I've painted my entire apartment with Dulux White on White and it's amazing. I was a decorator for a few years and I'd say take your time decorating. Live in your space with what you have right now and get a feel for how you use it. Also choose neutral colours for the expensive things like curtains, furniture etc and then add colour and texture with paint, throw cushions, carpets etc. That way when you want to change things up it won't cost a fortune. I hope this helps!
Almost all paint stores can mix customized colors. You can pick a BM color you like and have someone charge less to mix it for you. Obviously pick a high quality brand….. wood color samples are normally offered from the furniture manufacturers. You already got this but there is no need to fully furnish the house all at once. Good luck and have fun! 😊
Sadly, you can’t judge a colour online and think it’s a true representation of what you’ll end up with. The same photo is going to show colours differently on two different monitors. Even the same make/model. The light - as you well know - when the photo taken, also matters. Some Photographers buy a “true colour” screen that costs a massive amount of cash. My advice, take your time buying furniture and other stuff to fill the house with. Wait until you see something and you get that big “YES!” feeling… Don’t worry, you’ll fill it sooner than you think. I know it’s stressful. Been there. One step at a time. Remember to stop in some moments. Take a look around and allow all the positive achievement vibes to fill you and let them settle where they want. 3 deep breaths and enjoy it. You deserve that. But only you can take those moments for yourself. And congratulations! 🎉🎊🎈🍾
Kaylee do not be surprised that do know about your UA-cam channel. I'm sure their Solicitor has did some investigating into your background. We just closed on our house on Friday! We start to move in on Sunday 🥳 it's been really hard not to be decorating it. But I feel the best thing to do is move in with the furniture that you have/are keeping then go from there. Sending my love, light and prayers ✨️
I run a business for three years. Interesting, inspiring but omg hard time. Fingers crossed. I hope all the troubles get sorted out soon. I have just discovered your vlog and I love it. ❤️
Didn’t realize how much I plan and look forward to seeing you on Fridays! So glad you got the house, and I’m sure the horse stuff will work itself out. You’re doing the right thing, horse wise and vendor wise! Chin up…it will all work out because you’re a good person doing the right thing! Looking forward to seeing the new house!!!
I’ve just painted my parents house (inside every room and outside) and they wanted farrow and ball All throughout the house. I found that dulux was just as good and way more affordable and accessible (b&q). Hope this helps. Love your channel xx
Better to paint the house now and 2 or so years later add wallpaper (or not). The house will be setting it self or whatever it's called and then the wallpaper gets messed up. We've been living in our house for over a year and still haven't got around to get lights in all the rooms, furnish up a house from scratch can take some time.
Keep yourself busy by showing us your beautiful plants and giving us the secret plant care tips. Time will go by and plants will grow and before you know it, all will be as it should be. Best of luck to you.
oooo my parents aren't home until Sunday so I have the house for myself and I took that opportunity to dry some blueberries, raspberries, chicory root and lemons in the oven and now the house smells so fucking good. Am now sitting on the sofa with a freshly brewed cup of blueberry tea wrapped in a fluffy blanket. Perfect time for some Kaylee Ellen drama updates!
I came for the plants but stay for the life updates. I don't care either way about horses, but I am intrigued about your ordeal from the whole legal side of things. It doesn't matter what someone buys, dodgy sellers are always out there. I hope everything turn out in your favour.
Kaylee have you ever heard of Steve Young (horsemanship)? He is in the UK and is really impressive as a rehabilitator. Seeing as you are trying to send the horse back, I don't know that it's necessarily what you need, but his opinion on your current case might be something you want in your arsenal. Just an idea.
Grey is a VERY powerful color! it really helps balance out all of your warm and cold woods, it helps be a breather, color wise! i love the ideas of sprinkled blues and ofc green from your plants! reds aswell can really bring some fun into it! GO GIRL GOOO!!!
RE the furniture - you can potentially order samples of the wood from some dedicated wood furniture places, that or go into the show rooms (not ideal, time consuming) or purchase a wood stain / bleach and stain the wood to get it looking how you like. I feel you on the stress element of getting your first home, I chipped a tooth I gritted my teeth so hard when trying to sort furniture! 😂
Buying a house is stressful as shit yes but please do t worry about decorating as soon as you move in😂 6 years later and I hate my kitchen floor and worktop. I also recently got an amazing sofa chair suite from bhs second hand and it doesn't suit my wallpaper atall so yeah redecorating again at some point but honestly I cba rn. 🤣
The furniture looking on instagram is what I do, some places send you a swatch/sample. Another place is looking it up on UA-cam. It’s ok to have empty rooms. You can have them empty while you decide even if it takes 5 years.(get something for bedroom , kitchen and living but don’t stress about getting all the details at once.
I'm so itching to know who the seller is. I would love to know who has such shitty business practices so I can avoid purchasing from such a shitty vendor. I have personally purchased plants internationally and I would hate to accidentally use the wrong seller and get stuck in a situation like this without the pull you have. I feel for you. This sounds like an absolute nightmare for you and Ben to sort through!! Hang in there ❤️❤️❤️
Unfortunately, you will never find the right shade of wood online. I also tried at the time. In the end, I took a piece of my worktop to a furniture store and compared them directly. You should take a piece of your wooden floor with you. Of course, a furniture store is more expensive than online shops, but afterwards everything matches perfectly. In fact, it was a bit easier for me. It was beech. There are not quite as many variations as with oak
Kaylee has really similar sounding situation that I had with Alpine Tropical Plants. Paid up, got shitty plants, customs send them back, no refound but they threatened me with lawyer also :D
I've had similar seller issues. 3 boxes returned because they didn't put an import permit in/ on it that i provided, so it didn't go through import customs and was returned. Sellers calling me "beautiful" and other inappropriate comments for a business transaction. Most recently, one asked if i was male/female before proceeding to hit on me. Made even more funny by being NB, though i'm not going to tell that to a person in a 86% religious country.
Sorry to hear you're still dealing with hore and plant seller situations but thank you for keeping us updated. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be at this point.
Maybe it might be worth living with the kitchen you have, since it's brand new, and use that new kitchen money for the rest of the stuff. Furnishing a house doesn't need to be stressful, just take your time. Also be mindful with painting a new build as it might take a year to settle and stop cracking, and the builder could be working on your snagging list for that whole time too, so often it's a waste of time and money. x
It’s unfortunate how much basic ethics x common sense is missed over blatant ignorance. I’m sorry you went through this. As a new plant dad I purchased my first anthurium from a seller in CA. I’m on the east coast on the other side of the US. The packaging was terrible, it has pest on it x due to bad packaging the leaves were damaged. You think I got a response back from the seller. Even having advise that they could do a bit more around customer service. Nope! And of course as you said. The little people basically have to bite the bullet. It’s unfortunate.
It makes me mad that people are sending things with pests. Importing is already a pain in the butt and if you're just a person who collects for personal use it makes the gamble really big as a few hundred dollars for a single plant is often someone's major splurge and then they're out the money. And, if they didn't have inspectors doing this we would be bringing in all sorts of different pests and that's led to invasive species and crop destruction etc. I know a teeny tiny bug can be microscopic and that 💩 happens but twice in a row just makes me feel like I should never risk ordering outside of my own borders, which isn't fair to good sellers!
I, personally, appreciate the honesty about the $$$. It isn't my business and I don't need to hear dollar for dollar playback. But it's nice to know that I'm not the only person who works her ass off and still can't make enough to just relax for 5 minutes. 😅
I do best with pictures of rooms i like and then copy them, or create a photo book with pieces of furniture from magazines, then I know shades of wood or fabric I'm shooting for.
I admire your strength and intelligence so much. I wish I could lighten your load. But, girl, you are a warrior. Your ethics and morals never fail. I sure wish we were neighbors-we could tell each other stories and laugh for years on end! I am particularly interested in your horse saga. I am so angry at those callus, careless people. They sure didn't anticipate who the hell they were dealing with. Go slow on the house-set up your bedroom first, so you have a safe haven at the end of the say. Enough in the kitchen to be able to eat. Maybe set up your filming corner next. The rest will come. You won't believe how much you change your mind about what you want, once you live in a space. PS: I love natural wood, too! All these people with their stark "modern" crap-it depresses me. I do prefer older pieces restored, over new, though. I believe humans have destroyed enough trees already.
Sounds like the horse people don't care about the money, they just figure if you're going to make them take responsibility for their scams they are going to make it as hell for you as possible. I hope you get funds for the emotional damages they are deliberately invoking as retaliation. Ugh.
Re furniture: do not buy from Wayfair.I have purchased two items and colour is way off. I complained and they sent me a one new one---still off-colour.
So by “house” what exactly does that mean in the UK? In Australia it means a yard all the way around (400 - 800m2) but do you have like a town house or semi-detached? It’s interesting what is common over there vs over here or in US etc.
Hello from across the pond. Yes you definitely need to take care of your own mental health. Definitely missed not having a video last week but you need to take care of yourself so that I can look forward to more videos
Harsh time you going trough ... so wish you all the best in all cases ! And I really love your videos 🌱💚 I've ben sik this week and ... I just spent hours and hours watching them 🤣 thank you for al the intresting plant and not plantrelated content💚
Kaylee i can see you are going through the hard times and i just wanna say you are such a strong woman. I have been kaylee og fan since the beginning and you have been my inspiration in many things. We are gonna support you no matter what injustice you encounter and stand by your side, love you so much stay strong and amazing.💖
I feel so sad for that horse being an object/thing rather than a living being, it sounds like it will be going back to terrible people if it does go back 😩

Am now sitting on the sofa with a freshly brewed cup of blueberry tea wrapped in a fluffy blanket. Perfect time for some Kaylee Ellen drama updates!
All the best. And have fun with your new house, once you have some furniture and plants in you'll hopefully feel a lot less stressed
Hey Kaylee dear, it’s gonna be ok babes. Hang in there. Brighter days and beautiful blessings to come.
All my love,
Cass
Sending you all the good vibes and love boo, always 🥰
RE the furniture - you can potentially order samples of the wood from some dedicated wood furniture places, that or go into the show rooms (not ideal, time consuming) or purchase a wood stain / bleach and stain the wood to get it looking how you like. I feel you on the stress element of getting your first home, I chipped a tooth I gritted my teeth so hard when trying to sort furniture! 😂
I wouldn’t rush the furniture shopping. It’s probably better you get some functional IKEA pieces and find pieces you really love with time.
Congrats on getting your house! 🎉
Take your time to decorate it!
Good to see you again 🤩 just turn on the lights please.🔆
Love the videos! Thanks for the update! Wanted to ask, how is your Thai Constellation going?
Holy poop, I sending love, prayers, and Good Vibes your way!!! It will all work out!! Deep breath and this won't last forever!!!
Hang in there ❤️❤️❤️
I’m sending you all the vibes, I’m sorry you are having to deal with so much all at once. 💕
Take a pice of your floor to the store. Best way to match it!
Hope everything went smoothly with the closing on your home!
This too shall pass. It’s just amazing what the psyche can take on and power thru. One breath at a time and all will eventually be well ❤
Kaylee has really similar sounding situation that I had with Alpine Tropical Plants.
I recomend yestersen and pastform shops for great furtniture if its in your style :)
Also be mindful with painting a new build as it might take a year to settle and stop cracking, and the builder could be working on your snagging list for that whole time too, so often it's a waste of time and money. x
“So I should be getting the house as your watching this” IMMEDIATELY ran over to Instagram to check!! YAYYYYYY HOUSE!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!
Hoping for all the best for you. The stress must be phenomenal. Thoughts & best wishes being sent your way from Canada.
I think you should maybe do some videos of houseplant decorating of your house or a room in your house for a Christmas/vlogmas thing?
ahhh you poor thing. I quit riding after just way too PTSD to be honest. The horse riding world can be amazing but it can also be extremely stressful.
Take your time with your house. A home looks best when it looks like you've curated items over time.
Those first nodes you cut, are you going to pot them just like that? What media?
Curious!!! Will you have an aga stove?!? I read they are pretty common in the UK. They look awesome!!!
Can you do a separate video all about variegated monstera lechleriana , thanks !!
Hey Kaylee, i hope everything is going well 🍀🍀🍀 ☺️.
And. Omg this Epipremnum full Mint? Wow i neeeeeed one 😍🤩👍
Girl! Take your time buying furniture. Get the main things and live in the space for a while before you fully decorate. Don’t stress
My suggestion… just wait 😂 mattress on the floor cheapie couch from goodwill living out of boxes for a few weeks
Harsh time you going trough ... so wish you all the best in all cases !
And I really love your videos 🌱💚 I've ben sik this week and ... I just spent hours and hours watching them 🤣 thank you for al the intresting plant and not plantrelated content💚
happy house Friday Kaylee!!!!!! love from Oregon (I was concerned for you speaking about your case lol glad you guys can speak there!!! )
Yaaayyyyyy!!!! You’ve got your house!!!!!!!! Congratulations ❤️❤️❤️❤️
love these update videos!
Kaylee, what do you use to propagate? Water, sphagnum moss, or Leca?
Do you think you could verify if a plant is a mint monstera? I’m unsure because the price is too good to be true.
I feel so sad for that horse being an object/thing rather than a living being, it sounds like it will be going back to terrible people if it does go back 😩
She is also not the right person. Eventually he would be sold for cheap, hope that person will be the right one.
I’m dying for you to teach us about using leca. Please, please!
Finally! Someone is talking about or at least doing something with Lechleriana!!!
I have one, I love it, but no one makes videos on it. Please go in depth at some point. ❤
Can you do more videos on monstera mints. Especially about Mexican mints and matcha mint. Thanks
