My father owned a business at Central Park Mall. Remained there until the very end. Let me just say that, throughout out time there, Mr Jaffee was the fairest landlord we could ever ask for. Thanks to the entire family for all the prosperity and those fantastic times.
9:10 While working at the Health Science Center, in 1980 I saw 200 movies that year, most of them at the Central Park Fox theater. Have had my head planted in the Internet for the last 30 years. Just looked at the area on Google maps. It's all gone.
I briefly lived in San Antonio in 2000 and one weekend I hopped off the bus near North Star Mall and out of curiosity decided to check out Central Park Mall. It was eerie and surreal walking through an almost abandoned mall with perhaps 2-3 active storefronts (including the Sears!). I had my fill of the scene and walked right back out after a little while. Not too surprised they closed it shortly thereafter. Seems like everyone collectively gave up on it.
I had a dream about central park mall about 4 or so weeks ago. Im so glad I saw this. I remember the 2 story carosel . I remember the hologram store and pet store so strange to have a pet store in a mall but it was awesome. I also remember the Christmas store too. I remember one time they had like an art gallery thing near the food court. The food court was so interesting to me there. Thank you for uploading !
The Fond Memorys of Central Park Mall Was Shopping At Sears & Dining At Lubys Cafeteria and The Christmas Trees At Dillards And The Other Cool Shops And The Smell of Lunch or Dinner At Lubys Cafeteria or Popocorn popping Yum
I mostly went into Sears and remember carousel inside and that's about it. Never went into the theater. Now is completely different but one day it will turn into nothing like everything does in the end.
I feel sad that i don't remember a lot of this mall. I remember vaguely shopping here many times. But the time i remember the most was delivering nails supplies to some nails salon inside of the mall. I was so happy to see how the outside looked now. I can't believe that all that was gone.
I miss this mall so much! I remember riding the carousel and my birthday party at Funtasia. I used to love going to Dinosaur World too! I saw someone else comment that and I really thought I had just made that up, but it’s cool to see someone else remembers that!
loved that mall! Me and my best friend lived at that mall, playing at the gold mine, eating pizza and catching a flick at the old fox! Man I miss those days!
I remember going there as a kid in the 90's. There was a petland there and of course Fantasia! I also remember this store that sold these strange hologram like picture frames? I remember it freaking me out big time
omg yes !!! I REMEMBER THIS . Do you remember walking in to Petland everyone was dressed in khaki like the Australian nature guy Steve , and how they had doggy petting sections where can just pick them up? they had the best fish displays as well. KIDS do not know how good the world was. I feel sorry for them.
I remember coming here as a kid at the tail end of the years it was still open. I remember going to dinosaur world, the sports memorabilia store across to buy pokemon cards, the carousel, the pet store, funtasia, Luby's, the giant clock and the hologram store. I remember getting in trouble because I wandered off alone into the mall when I was 5 years old. I freaked my parents out. This brought back a lot of memories. I always thought this place was eerie but somehow felt comforting. I just loved the aesthetic of this place. Also still remember the Fox theater across the street.
I remember the large elevated sign for the mall that faced Loop 410. The sign caught fire and was quite a spectacle due to the immense size of the sign and being totally engulfed in flames. This would have been in the 1970s. I believe the cause was listed as an electrical malfunction. The sign was eventually rebuilt.
The original lit sign was visible all the way to Hills and Dales, looking from where the water tower used to be at the top of the hill at 7535 White Fawn: Lydia Evan's home and piano studio, Pink Cloud. If you use Google Maps satellite view you can see her grand piano shaped pool still in the back yard. I don't know when the water tower was taken down and the road extended to the far side of the hill, but it used to be quite a vista from up there before UTSA and everything that came with it.
I remember in the food court there was a vendor with the best Philly cheesesteaks. The owner was from Philly and they were as authentic as you could get. Also, the Fox Theater use to show midnight screenings of the rocky horror picture show. I never saw it there but that would've been cool.
I was born in December of 1993 in my hometown San Antonio, Texas and I remember bits of pieces of central park mall I only remember the carousel and the arcade central park mall had that's all I remember to this day in 2023.
Personally I thought Central Park Mall had a much better layout, more room to walk, better parking and better stores and better ambience and decor than North Star Mall. I'm still scratching my head how this was beaten by North Star Mall.
Word, brother! I used to love having my birthday parties at Funtasia at Central Park Mall when I was a kid! I loved Funtasia! Pizza and arcade games were fun! Good ole' memories I'll never forget! Those were some good times back in the day!
remember coming here as a kid i loved and miss it easily my favorite of the dead 3 we went to when i was young mccreless being a close #2 and westlakes #3 i honesly liked the layout and parking way more than north star at least the sign lives
The other side of Sear's used to be Dillard's. I don't know why there was another Luby's if they had one at North Star Mall. But I do believe sometime around the 90's the mall started losing competition to North Star. Some other people said that the mall went out cause the owner of the mall was dying then probably passed away when the mall was gone for good.
The cafeteria they had before Lubys was Britannys. Before the Carousel was there, they had a big fountain with lights that switched off and on, and changed colors. This Mall for awhile went toe to toe with North Star Mall. This Mall was developed by the Jaffe Family. The Fox Theater which was behind the Mall, and it would compete with the movie theater at North Star Mall.
Wow, glad i stumbled upon this footage. I use to come here as a child, alot. I have vivid memories of this place, great job capturing the monument before it was torn down. I spent plenty of hours in funtasia and had forgotten about the carousel inside the mall! A bit eerie but very cool. Great job.
everything except sears was demoed and the area after a while turned into a strip mall/restaurant type of place with a target cinema frost bank and some other bits and pieces its now called park north the sign is still there and the sears building is too although sears themselves have long since left
@@googaagoogaa12345678 okay yea now I remember. I remember going into that sears before. Now it's a baby store and trufit and world market. Dang that was soo long ago. You by any chance have any pictures or video of how ingram mall use to look like and how the Macdonalds use to be inside ingram mall.
@@googaagoogaa12345678 damn. I've been hunting down old ingram mall stuff for a while now and I can't seen to find anyone who has photos from inside the mall back in the early 90s. I remember kaybeetoys too use to be inside there for years!
I remember where i was living near there that there was a huge backlash and petitions and everything to save the sears (or at least the building) because not only did many people like it but it was the last remaining vestage of CPM other than the sign
UnitedStatesOfCoffee It was where the Alamo Drafthouse & comedy club is now. They leveled this mall except for Sears. Not sure if the Sears is around anymore, either.
@United This mall was closed in the summer of 2001, which is why you never heard of it. The Fox Theater (as shown in this video) was closed for quite some time before I arrived in town (late-May 2001). Since the mall closed a month or two after I arrived in town, I only visited it once and have vivid memories of it. Also Windsor Park Mall was also in a state of decline during this time as well.
Imagine the mall starting at sears toward blanco road. They knocked down mall and put parking lot with stores like world market, that hotel, Jim’s etc. there was a stand alone movie theater where the target is now.

I worked at the carousel in the Fall of ‘93. Great memories.

Yes! Holograms! That store had some freaky stuff but it was cool. They use to have a location at rivercenter mall too.
I remember all that stuff, too. Fond memories.

Anyone else remember the Brandeis Book Sale they'd host here once a year or so? I picked up an awesome D&D monster manual for a few bucks.

I took my drivers ed class at this mall back in 2000. Central Park Driving School. Now its on the other side of 410
