Wow. Lot's of child hood memories coming back. This video is a sad reminder of what became of what I consider my favorite mall growing up in the 80's and early 90's..almost all of the stores were closed at the time of this video. This mall was the shit when I was young. It had everything.. I can remember visiting with my Mom, usually to go to Target or Montgomery Wards. I used to enjoy going to the Waldenbooks, KB Toys, Foot Locker, Camelot Music (bought my first CD here, Bone Thugs E. 1999 Eternal album) the little pizza place next to Target...I remember walking by TJ's as a kid and seeing all the expensive ass Girbaud jeans on the mannequin and thinking how much my 6th grade status would change if I owned a pair..reading how to do the moves at Waldenbooks, then going and playing Mortal Kombat II at Robotar..good times. Thanks uvision, good video.
This is quite possibly one of the saddest things I've ever watched online. Christmas used to mean seeing Santa here as a kid for me. Excellent video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for posting. My grandparents took me to Westlakes a lot as a child. In fact, every summer when I went to visit them, we'd always go to Luby's at Westlakes as soon as I got off the plane. What wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing.
I remember that Bealls that was there. It was the only thing still open by the time i was a kif and i remembered peaking through the tarp they had over the windows and seeing the abandon place. The Bealls shut down a while back too so now it's completely abandoned
Thanks for uploading this. I just finished watching a video about dead malls and it made me nostalgic about Westlakes Mall. I used to go there pretty often as a kid. My grandpa would take my sister and I to Robotar, the arcade, during the summer. Lots of good memories. It was nice seeing it again
My parents owned anna's place in this mall. It was right in the center with cotton candy, chili dogs, popcorn,ICEE's and cookie cakes. My childhood consisted of Robotar arcade, chic fil-a and unlimited snacks. I have such fond memories of this place....if only i could go back in time and visit for one hour. Westlake mall was my entire childhood.
What years was Anna's Place there? I don't remember it, but it sounds familiar. I hung out at Westlakes from 1983 to 1996. I mostly went to the arcade, which was Diamond Jim's when I was younger. I definitely remember the free samples at Chic Fil A! I would pass by many times until I was full! Haha!
@@bassage13 from the early 1990's to til when the mall closed. It was dead center. Luby's was down one wing, and then target was down the other. If you met in the middle, you would be at Anna's place. If was semi perpendicular to chic fil a as well
@@bassage13 I only got one once; a bigger kid saw me get it and tried to tell me that it wasn't worth anything and that he would take it off my hands as a favor. Ha ha
@@SamPendleton At least you got one! I once went to a birthday party there for a kid in my 4th grade class. They closed the arcade just for us and set all the games to free with unlimited continues. I fel like I won the lottery!
@@bassage13 That's the best feeling, isn't it? My family was friends with the family that owned the arcade over at North Star, and we stayed with them a few times during the summer, and we'd go over there and the dad would open the machines for us. Needless to say, we were celebrities among all the other kids there.
I used to work at the Chic Fil A in this mall. It’s was the only thing keeping that mall alive back in the early to mid 90s. The security guards were a freaking trip there LMAO. There was a homeless dude that would take a bath in the fountain.
My great grandparents would bring me and my little sister here every Saturday when we’re kids. We’d wake up early, eat cereal while we alternated between Fox Kids, Kids WB and 1 Saturday Morning before heading to the mall at 12 sharp.
Bealls is the only thing that’s still there on its own. The mall itself was torn down and has been replaced by a little shopping strip attached to an HEB they rebuilt a few years ago.
someone told me supposedly the bealls there now is in what was Montgomery ward in the mall i dont believe that i thought the whole thing was demoed do you or anyone know if its true or not
Matthew Neathery I don’t recall where the Montgomery Wards, that place closed down when I was still very young. But yes, the rest of the mall was demolished to make space for a new HEB. Bealls is the only part of the mall not demolished that’s still there/still open as it’s own store next to a Conn’s.
@@googaagoogaa12345678 The now Bealls location is in the old Montgomery Wards location that had the appliances, tools, music (tapes and CDs) and automotive in the back. Both the Target and MW were attached at either end to the mall. Just the Target and mall were torn down, leaving the MW location untouched.
Was this the mall that had a target? I rememebr it has a side entrance. I also rememebr a store that had a a slide and i think ball pit inside the store so mom and dad can shop and the kids would play
wow, such memories, sad to see that landmark disappear. Malls are beginning to be the things of the past, man i feel ancient. And i really don't like the HEB there
Does anyone know what happened to the Chinese restaurant that was there? I remember seeing a paper with a relocation address but I was young and didn't pay enough attention to write it down and have spent 15 years trying to find name and address lol.... Google doesn't have the information at all... This is the closest I've gotten wah Thai I think it said at the end
I've spent the same amount of time looking for this place too. My family and I used to love going there when I was little. It was always so clean and the food was always fresh and tasty. The staff was always so respectful as well, I think it was run by the family that owned it.

I kind of miss that place. I use to go there a lot. I enjoyed the Luby's that was there as well.
Still remember performing tap dances here as a little girl in 1986!
Do your parents have any video of your performances at westlakes? Id love to see older footage of the mall.
The smallest mall in the 80's. McCreeles was small too, but this one was smaller.
I spent many hours and quarters here playing Double Dragon and Golden Axe at Diamond Jim's!

Westlakes Mall r.i.p. 1983-2005
I moved to San Antonio when I was 5, in 1983. My family started shopping at that mall when it was brand new. So many memories!
