Thank you so much for this, im so fascinanted by my city history. Especially nowadays that all it seems to be is hotels in downtown San Antonio. Do you have plans for another video if possible??
They're on the 3rd seat from the front inside this bus at 0:40, talking about their plan on watching "A Shop Around the Corner" starring Jimmy Stewart in cinema later that day.
This is an amazing restoration. The clarity of this film is amazing. It is the very first video I have ever seen of the streets of San Antonio in the 40's. I am a Texan and being able to watch such a clear video of one of the oldest cities here in Texas is fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing this. Please show us more videos of cities and towns here in Texas!!! Howdy to y'all!!
Back in the day, street photographers would take your photo as you candidly walked down the street, one could buy the photo, my grandma has a few from that time in downtown San Antonio. She was about 23 at that time. Theyre black and white, but this footage makes it so much more real and lively. Two days ago my grandma turned 95. 💛
Based upon the identifiable Fords, I would agree it is from 1949; maybe early 1950. My parents got hitched in a church downtown (1944), so this was very interesting to see. Thanks for the hard work and for posting.
So many men, Dad included, got trained to fly in this town during the war, and they brought wives and kids along. I wish my folks could see this. I think Mom loved the town… and told me all about it.
Most people don't wear cowboy hats in TX, unless you're out in the country. Rewind the clock another few decades and you'd probably find more. But it went out of fashion sometime between the world wars.
@@Native_Creation as a lifelong Texan for over 50 years, you do still see people wearing cowboy hats. In rural areas especially. I have relatives that still wear them when they go out.

Wow the restoration on this is amazing bummer the footage was so short. I would have loved to see much more of my beautiful home town of San Antonio. Born and raised . Great work
The Hertzberg Clock has history, going back to 1878. It was moved to the location you see it at in this video (St. Mary's and Houston Street) in 1910 where it continues to remain to this date (the jewelry store long gone). It also has its own Wikipedia page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hertzberg_Clock_(San_Antonio)
Mind blowing that I know exactly where most of this footage was taken! I can visualize what it looks like! That first shot is right next to the Majestic theater, hence the Majestic Man's Shop. Adam Hats is now a resteraunt that has a walkway to the riverwalk right next to it. I wish time travel was real, I'd love to revisit the city around this time period!
Great video nass, amazing footage, every classic car, bus, van, you could think of, just love people going about their business not a clue they are being filmed, incredible 👍😀👌
I cannot express in adequate words my love for this aesthetic of the cars, the clothing and architecture around this time. It just looks so cool. We have advanced tech now and much better quality of living but we've lost all sense of style in almost every aspect of life.
Most cities were more beautiful prior to the late 20th century. Human craftsmanship still existed on a wide scale because automated processes were still in their infancy.
That corner of St. Mary's and Houston is still pretty beautiful today. Its one of the prettiest intersections in Downtown SA. There is still lots of pedestrian traffic there, just not like back then. And the people are much fatter today and not as well dressed. LOL
I'm really enjoying your videos! Don't have much time for surfing and watching videos in general, but when I do I rather watch your superb work than some of that meaningless nonsense UA-cam is drowning in! 👍

At 0:50 lower left hand side of the screen. There is a dark haired woman (man?) in a striped blouse who is dressed like she's from the nineties. Great video, thank you!
It's hard to tell, but I think it is a boy, probably about 13 years old. Quite possibly the woman in front of him is his mother. It was not unusual in those days for children from about 6 or 7 upward to walk a little distance from their elders. If it is a woman it would be quite unusual to be wearing slacks.
@@mehlindiinthewebway3910 Yes, that is the one I was talking about, with the black bag and black stripe on a peach shirt. (But keep in mind all colors are fake, not actual.) If you look at the first two or three frames where he/she appears from the edge of the frame, you will note an apparent lack of bustline. That may or may not mean anything. Also in a couple of the frames the very blurred face appears somewhat boyish, but considering what Deoldify does to images, that also may or may not mean anything. A woman in slacks would be possible in that era, but not common. And the figure could be a woman. But in my opinion, from the available images, it could also be a young teenage boy. In that case pants would not be unusual. Of course there is the question of what that black bag is. If it is a purse, it is a woman. If it is something from the drugstore or a sack lunch it could be either. I went and looked at the original B&W footage. The face is still hard to determine; it could be an oriental man. Yes, an oriental in San Antonio would be quite unusual. The right arm is somewhat clearer, and in a few frames shows what looks like typical male musculature. The bag appears to be white in a couple of frames (definitely light colored) and only black in later frames when it is in shadow. The pants are considerably clearer. They look like jeans that are too long, and the cuffs rolled up. You can see a tag on the right hip, and the 2" cuffs are reasonably obvious. I have a hard time imagining any woman voluntarily dressing that way, but it was fairly common for young males that were still growing. None of this proves the sex either way, but from what I see I'm sticking with the idea that it is male.
