- Today I struggle hard to get the transom plate and gimbal housing assembly installed. But! we finally did it! This is a Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2, so stay tuned to learn the wrong and the right way to do it.
I'm grateful you left in the mistakes. It happens. Anybody who doesn't make mistakes doesn't actually fix things, they just watch youtube videos of other people fixing things. Good job.
Props for including the corrections.
awesome video!!!! this is exactly what I want to do to my boat.converting it from a weeny 2.3 liter ford with a cobra out drive to a chevy and mercruiser out drive.thanks for the video!!
Thanks for the clear video! This really helps me do mine.
No problem! Glad these videos are helping.
Great videos man! I just finished rebuilding my 19ft Sport-craft (with video doc. too) so I know how much work is involved. I don't have much experience with IO's so it's cool to see how they go together.
thanks for this, will help me I'm sure of it!
I don’t like using 5200 or sealant on bolt holes. If there’s a leak you’ll never know till it’s too late. It’ll rot transom quietly.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Did you rebuild the transom yourself? I've got the same project on the go right now with my old Thundercraft.
I did, I replaced the entire structure... Stringers, transom, deck, etc... I unfortunately didn't get the idea to record it until that was all done, but I did document it over on my iboats thread...
how difficult is it to cut the hole in the transom that the plate matches up with
Awesome video! Sorry you had to redo it a few times, but better to do it now then after you've got it completely installed. The bottom part of my transom plate broke away, right through the bolt holds. Since there is no pressure pulling on those bottom bolts, I've got saltwater (Destin, Florida) slowly coming into my bilge. I'm getting ready to pull my motor so I can do this swap out with another transom plate I've got. Where did you find the studs? I know there are two sizes like you mentioned. Could you send or post the vendor please? I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again! William
I believe I got them from mercruiserparts.com. thanks for watching!
so where did you get the washers? I'm doing mine currently and looking for where to get such thick washers, did you get stainless or grade 8?
I ordered them from mcmaster carr... I'm pretty sure the ones below are the ones I used
www.mcmaster.com/91525a331
Thanks for watching!
10-97934A1 screws and nuts kit , can you please tell me the right order to mount the spacers, fiberglass spacer ? Thank you !
First that is a two man job. Second for the next time filling those holes full of 5200 or what ever you decide to go with is what you are after!
Thanks for the video - what sealant did you use?
I think I used 3m 4000UV. It's basically the same as 5200 but not for permanent installations.
Madprops Boatworks 3M 5200 is the choice !
But people do not know how to clean it up!
It cleans up with isopropyl alcohol. Cheap rubbing alcohol from the pharmacy. BEFORE IT SKINS OVER!! After 5200 skins and sets that’s it sand or wire brush only
You so forgot the daisy ground cable
you should do some research first then do it wrong, like reading the directions afterwards
