    What baffles are inside your threw hull exhaust?

    • @605BOLT
      @605BOLT  3 роки тому

      It has the normal flapper portion like all Mercruisers but I think there is just the butterfly valve that opens and closes and then a small rubber flapper on the outside of the hull. No baffles really.

    Wow what a lot of work. I live in Florida and don't own a boat but was thinking about buying one someday. First thing my friends tell me is make sure the rear end (everything you replaced) are good otherwise its a major expense. Now i got to see what they mean! Nice shop you have and thank you for doing this. I watched all your videos in one sitting.

      Wow that's a binge session! It was a ton of work and your friends are right in advising you to look these parts over. This specific boat was priced knowing the fix was needed but that didn't reduce the amount of labor at all. It was tough. Hope you find something not so trashed. Thanks for watching and commenting!!!!

      Yeah that’s the real pro-tip right there. I bought one last year and immediately had to rebuild the carburetor and replace the fuel pump to get it to run right. Then noticed the gimbal bearing making noise right after. Sure enough the bellows had water in it and the bearing was shot, so I’m doing the same thing with my boat, except without the awesome garage this guy has. We even built a rudimentary crane for removing the engine. Needless to say this experience gave me a sour taste of boat ownership, but hopefully I can turn it around into a positive experience after it’s back on the water.

      Hang with it. Been a couple summers of no bellows or water pump or gimbal bearing work for me. Plus the next time you need to do it you will feel so much more ready for the task. Any hangups feel free to reach out! 🍻

    Some great videos on this..upon further inspection of my boat this weekend I may end up having to replace the whole transom assembly. It’s in pretty bad shape lol boats from 1996 I’m only worried about what I may find when removing the assembly from the transom 🤢

      Ya I was worried as well. Mine wasn't in perfect shape but mine doesn't sit in a slip in the water. Mine spends the majority of it's time on a trailer so I was able to kind of close my eyes to the very few things that weren't perfect. But overall it was about 90%. Thanks for your kind words and good luck!!!

    Is that a crack in the bottom left of the casting? Looks like lower section of transom is soft

      It seemed good when I went to put it all on there but ya it must have compressed a little. If it was wet docked I wouldn't love it but considering most of its time is on a trailer, "I'm not worried."

    I’ll tell what what the fastest and easiest way to place the transom seal in place is 3m77 spray one side of the seal wait 10 minutes and bam all is good.

    • @605BOLT
      @605BOLT  2 роки тому +1

      I'll try that on the next one. Hopefully never haha. Thanks for the heads up though!

      @@605BOLT second comment plus the bellows adhesive will eat thru the paint on the transom assembly if it has rattle can mercury paint

    • @605BOLT
      @605BOLT  2 роки тому

      @@robertm2172 interesting. Ya it was just little dabs I didn't slather it all up or anything. Never heard of bellows adhesive attacking paint. Doesn't really do that for any of the bellows location but who knows.

    So the transom assembly had 5 holes, but the exhaust pipes had 4 holes, You obviously didn't use one hole. What's up with that?

    • @605BOLT

      I'm sorry I don't really understand the question.

    • @605BOLT
      @605BOLT  Рік тому

      Oh now I see what you're saying. Yes only four bolts for my Y pipe exhaust. Maybe the single pipe from a four cylinder uses a different bolt set or something but there is just the four bolts. 5 holes, yes. But that's the way on this boat anyway.
